Welcome to Apple discussions.
Your post was hard to follow, but, for openers, very few people should EVER use terminal commands. As you have found out, you can screw a system up badly.
So much for the lecture.
OS X requires a system administrator password when anyone tries to install software that will affect the operating system. This is an Apple security feature that keeps people from, hopefully, doing dumb things to their system.
You cannot use a "friends" disk on a system that differs from your own.
Bottom line, you need to reinstall the operating system (whatever came with the system). If it is OS X 10.5, you could do an archive and install.
There is no way that I know of to undo the damage caused by entering the arcane terminal commands.

hello my name is kirstie, i updated to firmware 4.2.1 .....my iphone 3g stays on the apple logo for about 4 minutes then flashes white and goes back to the apple screen, it repeats untill battery is flat, every now and then im lucky enough to get it to turn on but not very often and then it freezes and repeats the same problem?? (if i turn the phone off my pressing the two buttons it wont keep rebooting, its only when i leave it after turning it on)
I have reset the phone, full firmware restore, even downgraded back from firmware 4.2.1 to .3.1.3 official by using dfu mode and still doesnt fix.
(i correctly got out of dfu mode after the downgrade)
i can enter dfu mode and recovery, and update through itunes with no problem, but it doesnt fix the problem,
i have searched and found no answer to this problem, every option availible to try that i know of i have tried and failed. i dont care about preserving my content i just want a fix. i have a good understanding how to operate software on a computer and shouldnt be too confused by any advice given, so plz even if the answer is very complex i wish to try anything, please help me to get my iphone working.Anyone have any suggestions? or is everyone else just as clueless as me !

My iphone keeps freezing, especially in the mail setting. The support center indicates i should go to settings, then general settings, and then to update software, but there is no "update software" selection under general settings. can anyone help? Thanks!

Apple recommends backing up the data when you're getting the battery replaced by them. So I assume that you will likely lose the data during this process.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Welcome to the Apple community.
Unfortunately, you cannot do very much with your phone unless you get assistance from the previous owner, they should either provide you with the password to unlock it or remove their account from the phone entirely remotely through iCloud.com > Find My Phone.
If you have this persons email address, try sending them an email and asking them to remove their ID as described above. -

After using itunes to restore it i turned my ipod touch on and it stayed on the apple logo for a few minutes then it would change to a spinning wheel on a black screen then the screen would turn white and the process will repeat. I can still put it in dfu mode and recovery mode but they don't help. So hopefully someone in this community can help me. And this all started when i updated it to ios 6.1.3 from 6.1.2. and also my computer and itunes dont recognize it

Possibly faulty charger. The supplied Apple Charger is covered by the iPhone Warranty. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send iPhone and Charger to Apple for resolution.

Follow the instructions in the article. When you connect your phone again, you may have to press both the home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo reappears, then continue pressing the home button until iTunes detects the phone in recovery mode.
