Please Help!! Two questions...balance on itunes & how to reinstall tunes

My computer crashed recently and I just had to reinstall my operating system and all programs. These may be dumb questions but I'm not a computer guy...
1) I had a $46 balance on itunes when this happened, now I have to redownload itunes, is my balance still saved in my account? How will I get to it?
2) I was lucky enough to transfer my itunes music folders over to an external hard drive before the crash, but I'm a little concerned on how to get them back in my itunes library when I get itunes back up again. Is it as easy as the click and drag method I used to transfer all the songs to my back up hard drive? I know I'm a little screwed because I didn't tranfer my songs the way that I just read to on this website so I'm nervous. I have about 9000 songs to get back. Of course, I lost my playlists because I didn't do it correct but please tell me I still have all my songs.

i have no idea about the balance thing, but the music to library question is easy if i understand it right. just reinstall itunes, then select, on the itunes menu, file, add folder to library, and then browse through the computer for your external drive and select it. if your drive is partitioned or your music is in more than one folder, just add them one at a time. this wont move your music into the itunes folder per se; it'll just add them to your library and they'll remain in the external drive they were on. hope that actually answers your question and i didn't miss the point entirely.

Hello all, I will make this as short as possible.
I just installed a new, larger and faster HD on my Dell Inspiron 5150. It is the same brand as the other and is working fine. I use backup software and retored my HD to the same condition that it was in before the change. I started iTunes and retrieved my Podcasts and even loaded a CD on it. I was in the process of backing up the HD and I wanted to load the podcasts and CD onto my iPod. It would not connect to iTunes no matter what I did. I stopped the backup and it still would not connect.
I decided to re-install iTunes, went to the Apple site, downloaded the program and it would not install over the old version. I then deleted the older version using add/remove programs and tried to install. When I click on <<Run>>, I get a flash on the screen of Quicktime and then nothing. I then deleted Quicktime from the HD and the same thing kept happening.
I came here and saw a post about Norton so I disabled that and again the same. Then I saw a post about installing Quicktime first, same result. I can see <<quicktime>> and a progression bar for only an instant each time. I am rebooting between all these tries by the way.
Can anyone PLEASE help me to get my iTunes back. I do not have a disc. Can I buy one at Best Buy?? Everything is running fine but it just will not begin the installation.
If there is a solution on this board already, please point me to it. I need iTunes, I don't think I can function without it?? what could have gone wrong??? Again Please, PLEASE help me out.

If your library was working on your computer and then popped up empty all of a sudden then this might be what you need...
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

That screen is saying it has gone into recovery mode and you need to use the instructions for attaching by recovery mode given in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Changing devices is no reason to create a new Apple ID.
All content purchased from iTunes is permanently linked to the Apple ID it was purchased with.
To update apps purchased with the old ID, you MUST sign in with that Apple ID.

After spending most of Friday night on the issue, I found the following at ...

Obviously, some srewed up downloads have been sitting in the download folder and causing a) crashes at start-up (since itunes will try immediately to continue the download after start up) and b) avoiding anything else to be downloaded (seems to be a kind of "first come- first to be downloaded"-arrangement).
I found several "downloads"-folders using Spotlight. Most likely, because I moved the iTunes library to access it from my account as well as from the account of my wife (at the same computer). I deleted all those downloads-folders and ... voila .. suddenly the downloads continued. Funny, that there have been more conflicts in the queue of app 20 files to be downloaded. Means, I could download 5 and the problem came back. I repeated the procedure and could continue with the remaining 15 files.
After all, iTunes' download behaviour is back to normal. Songs, movies, apps, podcasts can be downloaded without any issue.

Music can't currently be re-downloaded in all countries. If you are in a country where music can be redownloaded, and if it's still in the store, then it will show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your iPad. If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music, or if it's no longer in the store, then you will need to re-sync it from your copies on your computer's iTunes (or your backup of your downloads). You can just tap and hold any icon to put into Edit mode. There you can delete.
Or you can just tell iTunes not to sync it.
To remove from iTunes just click on it in list and press delete.

Please help! I am not iTunes knowledgeable at all. After entering an iTunes gift card code I can see $20.00 at the top of my screen. How do I use that to pay for something?

I have been an iTunes user some years ago - and now want to go back, but I have questions and trouble. Please assist...
Since iTunes could not handle my growing library (then 50.000, now 100.000 tracks) on my old computer (tragically slow...) I migrated my whole library to MediaMonkey. I felt like in heaven. What a much more flexible database that is, with LOTS of pleasant editing and grouping options.
But now, after a few years MediaMonkey the heaven became ****: it keeps messing up my library data, merges parts of tracks from different songs, attaches wrong art work to songs etc. etc.
Conclusion: iTunes is much more rigid and edit-unfriendly, but also more reliable and stable. And the newer version works faster with big libraries.
So today I took the final step to start going back to iTunes, version 11.0.1.12 now.
I experience the following problems:
1. Around 8.000 of my MediaMonkey (MM) tracks have not been imported. Why not?
2. Most of the MM comments do not appear in the IT comment fields. Why not? Where are they? Why can some be imported, others not? Can I redo it, maybe with the help of MP3Tag, that I came across in the past?
3. A few hundred (maybe more) tracks have a ! on the left of the title, meaning that the corresponding file can not be found. Why not? If I try to locate it manually it is always there (with the 10 tracks I 'relocated' so far). So why can't IT find them?
4.As I remember IT had a song/track list view with a separate sqaure window in the left hand bottom corner of the cover art of the playing song . But I cannot find how I can get that back. Now I only see a thumbnail in the top player, on the left of the playing title. Or is my memory wrong, did only MM have such 'cover art window'? If IT has such window as well, how to re-create it?
5. Does iTunes STILL have no proper option to store 'multiple artists or genres' in one field? In MM I could store a certain duet as 'Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli' - using the comma as a separator between two individual artists. Same as with genres: 'classical, instrumental, romantic'. But in spite of popular requests IT still seems to 'merge' such combinations as one artist (called 'Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli') etc. Am I correct? Any hope for improvement at this point?
6. Is there a way to view the number of tracks in the total library? Or the number of selected items?
7. Any hopes that multi-track-editing will be made possible soon? So that I do not have to add 'The Messiah' in the front of each individual track title of that work?
8. Do iTunes developers publish anywhere there plans for future enhancements? So that customers can see what is in the pipeline?

I'm trying to upgrade itunes 7.0.2 but it wont let me I wait for hours but it doesnt do anything all it does is just stay there and i spent a week just trying to upgrade it but i'm out of ideas I have an itunes gift card and i cant download music until i upgrade it but i can't even.
