PLEASE someone explain 2x Apple ID and Apple TV
I have an Apple TV HD. And I have an Apple ID that is my own for years. I have an iPhone, iPad and a PC and a Mac that all use my Apple ID. I can watch vids from any of my computers on my Apple TV with no issues. Very smart.
Then I got married. My wife has her own Apple ID, her own PC (no Apple hardware) and her own content on her gear. Now the trouble starts.
I SHOULD be able to go into Apple TV and have access to the content on my stuff, whether it is on Mac, iPhone, iCloud, iWhatever. If she goes on Apple TV, she should have easy access to her content with no more than a click to say "Hey, it's me." and perhaps a password.
What I am reading online is that to do this we both need to have the same Apple ID. This is completely unacceptable. I married my awesome wife, not her Apple ID. The crap that is in her content I would never want to mingle with my awesome content. I'm pretty sure she doesn't want my awesomeness mixed in with her crap either.
Apple is not stupid. Please tell me there is a way that one single Apple HD TV can share two Apple IDs without any such issues. Workarounds & compromises not acceptable from such an otherwise intelligent company.

Have you tried setting up Home Sharing on her PC using your AppleID but with her signed in to iTunes using her AppleID.
Some people have said this will work and under Computers on AppleTV you'd select either your iTunes library or hers depending on what you were going to view.
I've never tried this as i have only 1 AppleID to deal with but others have suggested it works.
I agree with you that some kind of multiuser 'login' would be a good way forward - this is something they don't seem to have addressed well.

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. Can someone explain what DHCP is and how I do I connect to WiFi hotspot?
Can someone explain how a wireless network/router with an internet connection allows computers with a wireless card to connect to the internet? For instance, In an internet cafe with WiFi, how does my macbook get the IP address for the ISP that the cafe uses to allow me to open a webpage with Safari? What is DHCP and how should I set my internet preferences to allow me to use a network other than my own.
The reason I ask so many questions is that I can connect to the internet with my Airport Express base station network at home but not in my local WiFi cafe. Can see the network but not connect.Most Internet Cafes utilize DHCP to dynamically provide a wireless client with an IP address for that session. DHCP is a protocol used by networked computers (clients) to obtain IP addresses and other parameters such as the default gateway, subnet mask, and IP addresses of DNS servers from a DHCP server. It facilitates access to a network because these settings would otherwise have to be made manually for the client to participate in the network.
You Mac's AirPort, in turn, is set up to be a DHCP client by default. This allows your Mac to accept the dynamically provided IP address information from the Internet Cafe's DHCP server.
The reason I ask so many questions is that I can connect to the internet with my Airport Express base station network at home but not in my local WiFi cafe.
It sounds like the AirPort settings that your Mac is using is no longer at their default settings...and my be the reason you cannot connect to the Internet at the Cafe...or, the Cafe has additional settings required. I suggest that you check with the Administrator of the particular Internet Cafe you're having trouble connecting with to find out what settings are necessary to use their wireless network.
A typical AirPort is set up as follows:
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
- Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
- Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
AirPort tab
- By default, join: Automatic
TCP/IP tab
- Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
- Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
Proxies tab
- Configure Proxies: Manually
- Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
- Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
- Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
- Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked) -
Can someone explain what Apple did to remedy the battery life in version 1?

Yes, the 3g iPhone is an amazing piece of technology with MANY features....but I simply cannot use them and expect it to be a dependable functional telephone at the same time. For years, I have had phones that remain on standby possibly for days, make lots of calls, do lots of texting, browse the net...etc...you get the point.
I purchased the iphone for the push feature, the 3G feature, the wifi feature and the ability to use it as a telephone ......dependably. I work on-call and need to have a phone on at all times day or night. I charge my phones overnight but still have NEVER had a phone lose a charge as quickly as the iPhone does.
Apple's solution right now is to turn off all the features that make the phone so attractive in the first place.
I suspect that I am like a lot of others in that I did not buy this PHONE (yes, it is a phone after all and should have adequate battery life to serve as a phone) to selectively and actively take the time in between calling, browsing, etc. to remember to turn wifi on and off, turn my 3G network on and off and then manually push email. This kind of defeats the purpose.
Is there something Apple can do to remedy this situation via software updates or are some of has hoping for a pipe dream that simply will/cannot happen? I know with the first iPhone there were updates that dealt with battery life. Does anybody know what the formaer updates did physically? I hope something can be done with the 3g version, because right now it is not usable and may need to be returned.
Any software/hardware engineer types out there who can advise if this is indeed a fixable thing or should I return the phone? I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to keep this thing, but as it is now, it is totally not usable for me.

Other 3G phones have a swappable battery which having is a requirement. Since the iPhone does not have a swappable battery, an extra wall charger or keeping the wall charger handy is required. Or having a computer nearby with a USB port along with having a vehicle charger.
If you aren't interested in turning off available features to conserve battery when needed or wanted, and you use your iPhone regulary for web and email account access via 3G, the battery won't last the day - which is the same for any 3G smart phone. With no swappable battery, if the other alternatives are not acceptable, you should return it. -
Could someone explain photostream, camera roll and photo albums?
I have a new iPHONE 5C, but am very confused in what are, and differences between, the iPHONE's camera roll, photo stream, and photo albums.
If someone could explain what these are, what they do, I'd appreciate it.
RIght off the bat, I understand photos and videos I take with my 5C first get stored in the unit's camera roll. Is that right?
OK, then I get confused as to / how to add (separate) my photos/videos into photo albums.
Also, I get confused as to IF I'd want to delete photos from photo albums, does that mean they ALSO get deleted from my 5C's camera roll (or internal memory somewhere?)
I just took 20 precious videos that I cannot afford to lose... should I backup these 20 videos first to my HP laptop PC (I have Windows 7 OS) before I try to copy to a photo album I'd want to create just for these 20 videos??
My icloud (don't even understand what icloud is or how it works! ) is full - so I'd like to delete photos I don't really care for from my 5C - will that give me more space in the iCLOUD for backups?

So what I will do is explain the difference and if you have any other issue I will respond to them ASAP.
Camera Roll: This is every photo that has been take on this device and once it is deleted I will be deleted from all folders on that Phone however it will be backed up to iCloud Photos if it is enabled on your device.
My Photo Stream: This is a place where every photo you have taken in the last 30 days (with I think a limit of 10,000) are stored. The images here are all images taken on any device that used the same iCloud/Apple iD as the phone. So this means that if you took a picture on your iPod 15 days and it uses the same account as your iPhone the image taken will be on your iPhone and any other iOS and Mac OS X device that have the same account under Photo Stream. My Photo Stream is basically the Cloud storage of images.
Photo Albums: Consist of all images from the Camera role that have also been placed into an album. So if you want to sort some images from the camera role and have them in folders such as wedding, birthdays e.c.t these images will be there AND in the Camera role. If you delete the images from an album other than Camera role the images will go from that folder but will remain in the Camera role. If you delete an image from the Camera Role it will be removed from Camera Role and any other folder that is created.
Basically photos work like a flow chart.
Image Taken ⇒ Camera Role.
If there is iCloud Photos on: image ⇒ Photo Stream and therefore accessible on another iOS/Mac OS X device using same iCloud/Apple iD.
Just to repeat as I know this is crucial and important information.
If an image is deleted from Camera Role that image is wiped from the device. However there is still a copy of that photo in iCloud Photos but remember those images are only there for 30 days so don't rely on it to keep that image.
Delete an image from photo stream it is wiped from the iCloud sync of that image to all iOS/Mac OS X device using iCloud Photos using same iCloud/Apple iD. YOU WILL STILL HAVE THAT IMAGE IN CAMERA ROLE HOWEVER.
Photo Albums. Delete an image there and it will be removed JUST from the folder. Delete and image from Camera Role that is also in a folder and it will be wiped from the Camera role and Photo Album. However there is still a copy of that photo in iCloud Photos but remember those images are only there for 30 days so don't rely on it to keep that image.
Just quickly iCloud Photos is a way of keeping a cloud copy of those photos on all your iOS/Mac OS X device using the same iCloud/Apple iD as I am sure you have worked out already.
With iCloud Photos you can also share images using a shared photo stream where people can add, comment and like images there.
In short don't rely on iCloud Photos to keep an image if you want to delete an image from the photo stream because most likely when you will want the image, it will be gone.

Can someone explain what recovery mode and dfu mode are?
title says it all.
The main difference between DFU mode and Recovery mode is the iBoot bootloader. iBoot tells the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad what to do when it turns on, eg. load up iOS version whatever (for me, still 4.2.6 on my Verizon iPhone). When you upgrade your device's firmware, it goes into recovery mode.That way, iBoot can make sure you're flashing into a firmware that's equal to or greater than the current version of firmware you have installed. When you enter DFU mode, there isn't this limitation, so you can flash any version of iPhone OS/iOS that you want, provided the device is compatible with it and Apple is still signing for it.

Help, please someone explain my bill for me?
So I started my phone plan on September 1st and it's my first plan so I wasn't sure how things work.
I'm getting charged 116 and it's due on the 28th.
I spoke to someone on the phone about it and they said that they prorated my bill even from Sept. 1st to the 3rd which is when my month ends and it's on the bill but on the bill it also shows that I'm being charged from Sept. 4th to Oct. 3rd.
My question is, am I normally supposed to pay it advance?You must have gone to a Verizon store that was a Sales Rep store not the Real Verizon stores.. Know that you Never go in those stores they will get you Everytime in one way or the other. All you have to do is go to this page or call the 611 give you phone number and pin wait it will tell you what to do next and do it then wait it only takes a few min for them to answer I usually put it on speaker until someone answers and go back to what I am doing. It will fiinally be ok the following month depending on what you got. My Phone is only activated to use unlimited for 69.99 plus tax no text and if I want text its a total of around 87 dollars a month I do NOT like Text its not personal so I never use it. So I just wanted unlimited. Next months bill will even out put it on paperless statements it will take the bill out all by itself and you never have to worry. Your first bill is always the worst also after that they credit all they can for you to fix it back to the amounts that you were to pay in the first place. My bill was the same the first month after that I was ok. Good luck remember if you need help Verizon is always there for you not against you not at all.. They are only Human as we all make mistakes so know that and continue on it will all work out for your next bill. I would call the 611 number and find out what the bill is all about.. My name is Dale Hancock but Forums wouldn't let me use it...I think that it because I used it before.
I haven't been 'serious' about doing pictures for several years. I started many years ago with 'PhotoDelux' and upgraded every time ADOBE did until PSE 3...now I am starting again with PSE 9 (oh I tried the full version of PhotoShop) I think that was after the first version of PSE! I don't think I EVER completed even ONE photo with it. I have looked for the CD. I say all this to introduce myself ....I will need some help with PSE 9. It has much,much,much help but my brain has 'atrophied'and I have to be slow and deliberate!!! The tools seem to be better than they were in earlier versions.Even SOME of the 'quick fixes' work pretty good!!
Now,after reading all this,ya'll may understand sone of my 'queries'!

i updated my phone to ios7 normally through the settings and everything was fine untill i was installing it and it asked me to go to itunes so i did and downloaded it again and installed it again and its working its all upadted but it said my phone cant be activated because it cant reach the activation server? i connected it to itunes again and it still didnt work it said the same thing now and now it sent me here please someone help?
Apple's activation servers are probably very busy. You may want to wait for a little while before trying again.

Please can someone explain how to delete and email address that when typed in brings up one name but when you hit return to confirm it jumps to another name. I can't find them in my contacts list but they do come up when you type the first few letters of a name.
EG If I type xyz and the name of the person comes up, when I press return to confirm that's the one I want then it jumps to [email protected], always the same def address.
I can't fathom it out.

Start a new email. In the To address bar, type in xyz like you normally do, press return to confim, and when the address you want to remove shows up in the address bar, move your cursor over the address you want to delete.
A small triangle next to the name will show up. click on it, a drop down menu will open, click Remove from Previous Recipients List. Then do the drop down menu again and Remove Address.

I mistakenly updated to the latest version of iOS and ever since then I can send messages to my daughter and I receive them but she does not. She has an iphone also and her phone is under my apple id also. Someone told me that I could set up an Administrator Account so that she can still be under my account but she has her own ID and that will fix the problem with text/imessages. I can't find anything on the website that explains how to do that. Can someone explain that to me?

If you want to pay for any purchases she makes with her phone as far as apps/music goes than that is what Family sharing is for.
In my case my Wife and I are setup for family sharing. When she purchases music/apps it charges my credit card. This setup also allows me to share my past music/app purchases with her and vice versa. -

Can someone explain the icloud to me please? Where are all my old pictures and how can I see them? Photostream only holds 1000 and when I sync my icloud to my mac it only imports what is on my photo stream.
When you enable photo stream on your Mac, in imports photos currently in your photo stream. However, photo stream only keeps photos for 30 days, even though up to 1000 photos will remain on your device until you delete them. When you enable photo stream on your Mac, you will only receive photos added in the last 30 days, as the others are no longer in your photo stream.
If you want to get all your old photos on your Mac, save them to your camera roll (if they aren't already there) by opening your photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll. Once they are in your camera roll, import them to your Mac as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Another option would be to create a shared photo stream containing the older photos and invite yourself (as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99). Then check Shared Photo Streams in iPhoto>Preferences>Photo Stream and you will see this shared photo stream on your Mac.
