Plugin-container for Firefox, version 6.0.2.4262, is causing massive slow down on my computer. i am running windows 7 , have a quad core hard drive and it is using as many as 2 drives at times. tried to uninstall, and redownload browser this AM.

norton and windows are continuely giving me performance warnings that at least 1 of my hard drives is being completely utilized by the add-on plug-in container for firefox. last time i ran through the trouble shooter i was told that the plug-in container. exe for firefox was non-compatable.

Hello Matt, fellow archaeologist :)
Security updates are essential on any and all software, specially your browser. Mozilla is working to streamline the updating process as much as possible, but you shouldn't neglect your own security for a few seconds of "wasted" time.
I hope you do the best for yourself.

  • Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working ~ DivX Web Player plugin crashed

    Hi Everyone,
Probably I should begin by saying anything computer-related is like walking blindfold in a pitch dark room. Seriously "tech-impaired" here (i'd go to someone who knows but tight budgets are a pain too... so if anyone here could help fix this I'd be forever thankful.
The first part of the title line is what appears to me in a little message window. YouTube and Hulu work OK, but there's this site "Icefilms (dot) info" -the one that I mostly use- that's the one with the problem.
It was all working just fine until last Monday night (June 20/2011) and it's not just with Firefox that I have this problem, cause when i tried to use Google Chrome it was the same thing, which makes me think it's not an Internet browser problem, I tried changing Firefox (5) to an older version, but instead of just the video widow, the whole thing crashes.

  • How do I suppress "plugin container for firefox has stopped working" ?

I am doing some Flash programming and using Firefox to debug. Every time I end the debug session from Flash Builder I get the error "Plugin container for firefox has stopped working". Is there a way to suppress this false error message? There is not a problem with the container or any plugins, simply that Firefox thinks the container has crashed because it is being closed by the IDE. I have already had to change several options to suppress false error alerts, but just seem to get new ones like this.

Firefox uses the plugin-container process to run plugin out of the current Firefox process (Out-Of-Process-Plugins) and you may not see the plugin mentioned. Flash uses protected mode by default and that causes two plugin-container processes to be active.
You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
*check for updates for your graphics drive drivers<br>https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

source: "plugin container for firefox" summary: "stopped working"
in addition I receive messages "firefox stopped responding" never had this before, and on the lower task bar when ff and outlook are open, they will "swap places" Thanks

    Update
Ok so after uninstalling quicktime then scrubbing the hard drives for any and all associated files/folders and then cleaning the registry, rebooting then reinstalling quicktime it works, but only 60 % of the time (seems as though if you have opened any kind of drop down list or used a diff plugin on that page already the quicktime plugin and firefox hang. If you open the page and use the quicktime plugin before anything else it semms to be ok.
Zsolto Chrome really!!!!! With the amount of information gathered by Google and the things they do with it which are borderline criminal if not criminal why on earth would you use such a program???
There is an open source version out there created by other people that is just as good and doesn't monitor your every move.

  • Firefox crashes with error message: "Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working"

When I open Firefox it seems to be working fine for one minute, then everything freezes and I receive the following error message:
"Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working
--> Check online for a solution and close the program
    --> Close the Program"
Neither option restores Firefox and I'm left with a frozen (white blurry Not Responding) screen. When I click on the X button, then I get the regular "Firefox is not responding" message and the whole program just shuts down.
Should I disable all plugins and / or this plugin container? How can I do that, if Firefox keeps crashing?
Basically, how can I fix this? Thanks a lot!

I found the issue was with the Nik Filters I was using. The filters were messing with Photoshop's initializing. I uninstalled and reinstalled the filters and now Photoshop works like a charm.
It appears this forum is dead?!
Thankfully, I was able to troubleshoot on my own and figured out the problem...

  • Is there any way to not use the plugin container for firefox?

Is there any way to not use the plugin container for firefox? Ever since I updated, my firefox browser has been crashing almost every day and it always says that the plugin container crashed, but the rest of firefox freezes up as well, so I am forced to end the process itself.

    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
You can set the prefs dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.* to false on the about:config page to disable the plugin-container process.
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled (currently false by default in Firefox 3.6.6)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll (Flash)

    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npqtplugin.dll (QuickTime)

  • Loud static on speakers which disappear when I mute Plugin Container for Firefox on Volume Mixer

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  JohnWhite,
I understand that your speakers on your HP Pavilion g7-2325dx Notebook PC continues to emit sound when you plug your headphones in and that you got an error stating "audio device isn't set as default". I will try my best to help you with this.
    Try the following steps.
    1. Click Start
    2. Go to Control Panel
    3. Select "Hardware and Sound"
    4. Select "Sound"
    5. Right click the box and choose "Show Disabled Devices"
    6. Make sure that your audio device is enabled for your notebook. It should have a green check mark.
    7. Then in your Audio system under the Enhancements tab, check the box for "disable all enhancments".
If this does not resolve your issue, then I suggest reinstalling the audio software and driver Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8).
I hope this information helps, please let me know how it goes.
Take care and have a great day!

  • How can I fix a "Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working" error?

    Windows 7, Firefox 30
After changing how Firefox handled cookies (changed to forbidding 3rd party cookies, asking permission to set cookies), I rebooted my system, and Firefox would not start - I got the error message in the question. I uninstalled Firefox, and then re-installed, and Firefox ran fine. After some hours, I closed Firefox and rebooted the system, and again, Firefox hangs upon start, and I get the Plugin Container has stopped working error message.
Since Firefox won't work on my Windows desktop, I'm using my Linux desktop to look here for help. The problem details reported are:

    Thanks in advance!

plugin-container.exe is crashing repeatedly. The error code is 0x80000003, the faulting module is mozalloc.dll, version 33.0.0.5397, fault address 0x00001425. Hardware acceleration is disabled, and I have disabled all plugins in an attempt to cure the problem (only Acrobat and Flash were enabled, and Flash is up to date).
(Edit) I'm running EMET 4.1 - if this is memory-related might that be significant?
Here are some crashes from the past few hours (many more if you want them)

The crashes are intrusive but Firefox itself is not usually affected - so isolating the plugins works as intended.
(I tried creating a separate thread for this but the process stalled at Stage 3)
