Plugins and Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS6 beta

Yesterday I downloaded the CS6 beta of Photoshop. I then quickly uninstalled it because:
None of my plugins showed up in CS6
Lightroom 4 would only permit editing in CS6, nor CS5.
In other words, CS6 stalled my normal workflow and I couldn't see a way to fix it. So I didn't get any time to play with the beta. Is this what I should have expected with the beta? Or can I re-install and change some settings to permit Lightroom to use both or either CS5 and CS6 as external editors and to access my plugins from CS6? If that's possible, how do I do it? The new Photoshop has features I want to use but I need my plugins and Lightroom external editing connection to keep working.
Thanks, Don

I just sucessfully integrated Topaz Adjust 5.0 by following the steps (for Windows) listed here:  http://topazlabs.com/support/kb/index.php?View=entry&EntryID=342
3. If you are still unable to access Topaz after doing the steps above then please do the following:
Go to your preferences menu in Photoshop and select Plug-ins. Check / enable the Additional Plug-ins Folder option then click Choose. After that, please navigate to:
For Mac :
Macintosh HD -> Library -> Application Support -> Topaz Labs -> Adjust -> Plug-ins and select the Adjust plug-in.
For Windows:
C: \ Program Files \ Topaz Labs \ Adjust \ Plug-ins and select the Adjust plug-in.
Then click save / OK to save this back to Photoshop. Back in Photoshop click OK to save your changes, then restart Photoshop. Once Photoshop opens, go to your Filter menu and you should be able to access Topaz.
Edit:    It seems that you can only add one additional plug-in folder using this method.   I may go back and try the other tips on that support page.

  • FAQ: What are the known issues so far in Photoshop CS6 Beta

    APPLICATION  COEXISTENCE
Lightroom 4 Beta + Photoshop CS6 beta -- Editing the same video file simultanously in both applications may result in an error, crash, or blank (transparent) frames. You might see this Photoshop error: "Could not complete the Render Video command because of a problem with Adobe Media Encoder".
This will only be an issue with Lightroom 4 beta and Photoshop CS6 beta on the same system, editing the same video. The released versions will not have this issue.
Workaround: Upgrade to LR Release version (even if it's just the trial), or don't open the same file in both apps at the same time.
CS5 Help fails to launch after install of CS6
Workaround: Launch the stand alone "Adobe Help" application or reinstall CS5
    CROP
Crop action shows wrong crop box.Playing an action with a crop step that has dialogs turned on results in a crop box that covers the entire canvas instead of the expected area.
Workaround: Ensure that the Crop Tool is selected before running the action or disable dialogs for the action.
    FILTERS
(32bit OS only) Initial "Merge to HDR Pro" image display and result is black until settings are changed
Workaround: It will remain black until droplist in the "mode" line is selected, changed and activated, then action appears to be normal.
Bokeh color is different from preview after render at certain zoom levels on particular image patterns
    Workaround: View image at 100%
Lighting effects bump map generates artifacts if an alpha channel bump map is used. The resulting preview and final image is artifacted across the gradiated areas of the alpha channel.
Workaround: Do not use a gradiated alpha channel as a bump map
Liquify will perform the filter and save to just part of the photo if you click cancel while it is "finishing processing" a large file.
    LAYERS
If a vector layer has a center-aligned stroke combined with an inside-aligned layer style stroke, then that vector layer's stroke may not display correctly -- part of the vector layer stroke will disappear as the layer is moved around the image.
Workaround: Use the "Path Selection Tool" to move your vector around -- alternatively, Change the stroke alignment or remove underlying layers.
Dragging a selection box while layer filters are applied stops marquee selection from following cursor movement
Workaround: Even though the graphic of the selection marquee stops, the selection still happens. OR Turn off layer filtering before targeting the layers using a selection box

    PLUGINS
DUPLICATE PLUGINS CAUSE ISSUES ON MAC:
If you install duplicate plugins or point the additional plugins folder preferences to a duplicate set of plugins (such as, to an older version of Photoshop), then it is possible for odd Photoshop behavior, such as an inappropriate file extension to appear when saving files.
(example: while performing a "save as"  to JPEG file type, the file format appears to change to .dcm)
In this case, there may be a duplicate "file formats" plugin that's populating the Save As file types list with duplicates of the same options.
If there are duplicate file format plugins installed, the Mac OS will remove the duplicates from the list, but you may still see the odd saving behavior.
    Solution:
    Remove the duplicate plugins.
If you are not sure if you have this issue, but are seeing odd behavior, you can check for duplicates by looking through the plugins listed in the Help > System Info dialog.

Workaround: Create a folder named 'Templates' at "<Windows drive>:\Users\<current user login id>\AppData\Roaming\Micorsoft\Windows\"
Message saying trial of PS CS6 beta expired,Content coming soon, stay tuned.
Workaround: re-launch photoshop CS6 beta. This issue should not happen anymore

    1. You can get full support for your camera by upgrading to Lightroom 4. But personally, I would wait for Lightroom 5 since it will be released shortly, probably within the next month. Lightroom 5 will work with Photoshop CS5. The only difference is that Lightroom will need to create a TIF or PSD file that contains all the changes you have made in Lightroom. That's not a big deal, in my opinion. That file has to be created at some point anyway whenever you use Photoshop.
    2. Yes, Lightroom 4 will pass images back and forth between it and Photoshop.
    3.  The upgrade would not break Lightroom 3. It would essentially work the same as it does with your current setup.
    4. If you purchase CS6 it is my understanding you will be allowed to use it indefinitely. This is not true of the Creative Cloud version. Support and updating for additional cameras will cease for CS6. Adobe has announced that they will make Camera Raw 8.1 so that it can be usable with CS6 as far as reading Lightroom adjustments. But any new controls will not be accessible.
    5. So far, Adobe has indicated that they have no plans to making Lightroom a subscription-only offering.
You are asking your questions as though you are addressing Adobe directly. This is a User-to-user forum. I don't work for nor do I speak for Adobe. I am only giving you the information as I understand it. It seems to me that upgrading to Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5 is a "safe" choice. None of us, not even Adobe, really knows what the future will bring. Technology changes so quickly anymore that everything we are doing right now could be obsolete in a matter of a very short period of time. As Adobe changes their marketing strategies I think it will probably motivate some people to look elsewhere. I have Photoshop CS6 and I'm going to upgrade to Lightroom 5. Then I will have to wait and see what develops after that. At any rate, I have tools that I can use for the foreseeable future. If I have to change at some point then I will do so.

  • Anyone Have both Lightroom 4 and Ps CS6 beta?

Specifically, a friend of mine is reporting relatively sluggish performance with Lightroom 4 and I am seeing light, fast performance with Photoshop CS6's Camera Raw 7...  Maybe it's not butter smooth, but my preview display in Camera Raw definitely keeps up in near real-time with slider movements.  Our computers, per their Windows WEI scores, aren't too different in performance.
Apparently LR4 is MUCH slower for him than the prior version.
Should Lightroom be expected to be much slower than its predecessor version and Camera Raw 7?  Or is there a bug being worked on?
I've stopped short of running the Lightroom evaluation version as I am happy with what I have.
Thanks for any insights you can share.
    -Noel

Most likely the reason for the color difference has to do with your working color space. Lightroom doesn't allow you to chose your working colorspace (whereas camera raw borrows from bridge and photoshop). In lightroom use the "softproof" and chose your output colorspace to see what your images will look like. It could also be that your images coming out of lightroom are being output with a different color profile from what photoshop is saving your images as : adobe rbg VS srgb.  In my tests my images from photoshop and lightroom looked the same as long as they were both saved to the same colorspace ( I use srgb)
Noel - sorry for the vague question. I know that some people use lightroom vs ACR for its price. Some use it for it photo managing aspects compared to bridge. I was wondering if in any of your use or anything that you had seen posted if you had seen people choosing lightroom for performance related reasons. (import of raw images - editing - exporting)

I am also using both CS5 and LR4. For some unknown reason, CS5 Camera Raw appears to do a better job than LR4. Perhaps it is the darker interface that make the photo look ok in LR4. When the same photos are compared against Camera Raw later, the LR4 all have this slight warm colour hue. I also find the steps required to open a file from Camera Raw to CS5 much easier than from LR4

  • 32 Bit HDR Problem With Lightroom and Photoshop CS6

    Hello all:
In following Julieanne's Adobe TV topic here ->  http://tv.adobe.com/watch/the-complete-picture-with-julieanne-kost/quick-tip-creating-32bi t-hdr-images-in-lr-41/ a problem arises when trying to save from Photoshop CS 6. According to Julieanne you hit ctrl-s so that PS saves the HDR image and then it should show up in Lightroom. What I have found is that hitting crtrl-s saves it as a PSD file which does automatically show up in Lightroom, however Lightroom but  can't read it. If I do a save-as, and select TIFF as the extension Lightroom will not automatically see the TIFF file. I have to synchronize the folder in order to have Lightroom import it.
Why would Lightroom automatically see a PSD file (that is of no use) and not see the TIFF file?
Is there a setting in PS that will change the preferences to save as a TIFF instead of a PSD file?
Using Lightroom 4.2 and Photoshop CS6.
    Thanks,
    Terry

Go to LR's preferences > External Editing tab and change the top pop-up to TIFF and you should be all set.

  • Posterization in Lightroom 4.4 and Photoshop CS6

I'm struggling with posterization in Lightroom 4.4 and Photoshop CS6.  I'm shooting RAW on a Nikon D800.  Unedited bright sunset photos show nasty posterization.  Screenshot is included, unedited.  Any suggestions on what to do about this?

2.twenty_one, here's a screen shot of the highlight clipping.  Pulling the exposure way way down gets rid of the posterizing in the clouds and mist, but remains on the blown out highlights.  Do you think if an image were exposed without highlight clipping, we would not see posterizing in any of the rest of the image?
It would be difficult to take this picture without blowing out the brightest areas. The Highlights slider is what you want to use to recover the blown posterized areas. Feel free to set it to -100 if necessary. You may also need to reduce the Whites slider, which sets the Highlight clipping point. Looking at the LR default settings Histogram the Black level is very high, which may be due to lens flare. Either way using a lower in-camera exposure setting would help to retain highlight detail.

  • May i send photo from lightroom v4 to photoshop cs6 and open in camera raw?

    Hi
i have lightroom v4 last version 64 and photoshop cs6 64 last updates
i would like to send raw file from lightroom to photoshop without converting in psd or tiff but i would like to send from lightoom to photoshop the raw file
in short open the image in camera raw from lightroom
    can  i do it?
    thanks

Lightroom is Camera Raw. They're exactly the same code, provided versions are in step. Lr 4.4 = ACR 7.4.
"Edit In Photoshop" (Ctrl E) opens the image in Photoshop, just as "Open" does in ACR. And even though you open it from Lightroom, it's actually ACR that silently renders it into Photoshop. Lightroom just passes on its settings.
"Open As Smart Object" embeds the raw file into the PSD, so that you can reopen it in ACR, from Photoshop. Same function as you have in ACR to begin with.
If Lightroom and ACR versions are not in step, things get more complicated and some options are missing.

  • I manually uninstalled Photoshop CS6 Beta, and now Photoshop CS6 won't install.

Before I read the FAQ on how to properly uninstall the Photoshop CS6 Beta, I uninstalled it manually (by dragging it into the Trash on Mac OS X), and now when installing the CS6 Master Collection, Photoshop appears with an [!] that says "a conflicting or prerelease version of Photoshop CS6 is present on this computer. This must be removed before the installation can continue." I've tried deleting every file I can find with "Photoshop" in it, but to no prevail. What can I do?

    Jeff,
    The URL is:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4361731#4361731%234361731
I'd just add a line under:
Navigate to your /Applications/Photoshop CS6 folder
    to check Applications/Utilities/...
    for the other uninstaller.

  • Re-installing Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS6

I intend to upgrade Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit, which apparently means a clean install. Can I back up both Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS6 for re-installation or will I have to make a fresh install from the discs. Furthermore CS6 was an upgrade to CS4 so will I also have to reinstall CS4. Will I need to deactivate or can I save the activation details?

Lightroom: No activation required so you can just reinstall. Download the latest 4.x release and install it rather than from your disk and upgrading - it is just cleaner.
PS, you need to deactivate on the existing machine. Install CS6 upgrade first and when prompted provide your CS4 information. Then activate on the new machine.

  • What is the best way to sharpen using both Lightroom_4 and Photoshop CS6?

I want to learn the best way to sharpen various subjects.  I have Martin Evening's latest Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS6 books, but no mention of which methods are better,  or better for which subjects/conditions.  It seems that Camera Raw and Lightroom are the same, so I'm tempted to just do it all in Lightroom with the Develop module Detail panel, and the adjustment brush for local sharpening. But can I be doing more with Photoshop CS6, or Lightroom and Photoshop together?

Lightroom and Photoshop have different capabilities.  Photoshop power lies in layers so sharpening in Photoshop is best done using a sharpening layer which can be blended and masked into layers below.  Lightroom is more a image developer then and editor and does not have layer support.  Both Lightroom and Photoshop use Adobe RAW conversion engine to develop images.  Adobe RAW Conversion Engine has very good sharpening and noise reduction capabilities. Sharpening and Noise reduction is more or less a balancing act to much sharpening enhances noise to much noise reducing loose details and add softness.  Though both Photoshop and Lightroom use the same Adobe RAW conversion engine they use different user interfaces when they use Adobe RAW conversion engine.  Lightroom also lacks Layer support.

  • FAQ: Can I install the Photoshop CS6 beta if I have the Lightroom 4 beta installed?

Yes, both Photoshop CS6 beta and the Lightroom 4 beta can be installed and used together on the same system. However, the Lightroom 4 beta expires on 3/31/2012. If you want to try the Photoshop CS6 bta and Lightroom 4 together, download the 30-day trial of the official release of Adobe Lightroom 4.

Please quit/close Lightroom 4, and any other Adobe software on your system, prior to installing the Photoshop CS6 Extended Beta:
If you encounter the dialog (below) that references the background process named 'dynamiclinkmanager' during installation, please quit Lightroom 4, and any other Adobe software on your system. Then click [Continue] to continue the installation of Adobe Photoshop CS6:

That camera model has been supported since ACR 8.3 and it is most certainly supported by ACR 8.6 and ACR 8.7 (beta).

  • My Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 aren't opening...

Hello, I am having issues with my Illustrator and Photoshop CS6.  Both software are encountering different issues. For Illustrator, the issue is that when the software is trying to start up, it crashes unexpectedly (it seems to get stuck on the "ColorHarmony.aip" then quits). Illustrator opens maybe 5% of the time when i sit there and try to open it, but its rare to get it to work.
For Photoshop, it crashes 50% of the time during start up (similar to Illustrator), but the main issue with Photoshop is that when it actually opens, everything becomes incredibly slow. The mouse glitches and it takes extremely long for anything to actually work, I can't even select tools because the mouse glitches so bad.
    inDesign however is completely fine.
I own the Adobe Creative suite : Standard
My computer is a HP Envy laptop with windows 8.1. It has 16b of RAM, an i7 processor and has a nvidia geforce graphics card.
I have already un-installed and re-installed the software and even did a system restore and it didn't solve the issue.
Please help I need this for school.
    Thanks,
    -Eric
