Podcast library location

Is there a way to change the location of my podcast library to keep it on a separate drive from my music library?

Ok, so I just got this to work, thanks to PodcastProducer.org and this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2549942&tstart=45
So, what I did was setup a file share for my Library folder that resides on my data drive. Enabled automount as nfs and selected the "shared library folder" radio. Then selected the "protocol options" button, selected the nfs tab, checked the "export this item and its contents to: World" checkbox and set "mapping: root to root".
Then in Podcast Producer -> Settings -> General I set the Podcast Library path to "Network/Library/PodcastProducer/Shared" and now all is well.
Hope this info helps those with the same issue.

I have purchased podcasts on itunes and they show up in the podcast library,
but when I sync my ipod touch they will not go on to the ipod itself?
    any help?

Are you positive these podcasts are configured to sync to your iPod Touch? Have you double checked the configuration for podcasts from under the iPod's Podcasts configuration tab in iTunes?
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on its name from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will bring you to the iPod's Summary tab.  Locate the Podcasts tab along the top and select it. Here you can choose how and what podcasts sync to your iPod.

  • Default Podcast library change - Finder level.

I have a growing Podcast library that updates and downloads daily. I would like to change the default location from the main hard drive to a larger, external hard drive. In other words, I would like all the new episodes to default to the new external hard drive.
I don't see an obvious way to force this behavior. Does anyone have a clue?
    Thanx in advance.

You'll have to move your entire iTunes library to the other disk. You cannot store an iTiunes library on more than one disk at a time.
Here's a good article describing how iTunes stores content and how to move it around:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/48
    Good luck.

  • Library locations and uploads

I had to sort out my iTunes library after a restore.
Prior to this the library all resided on a Time Capsule all inside a single folder unsurprisingly called iTunes.
Since the recovery, iTues has now created three more folders alongside the iTues folder, called Podcasts, Movies and Downloads into which updated files now go rather than the folders with the same name, but inside the iTunes folder like before.
Doing a File => Library => Consolidate does not move the files back to the right place.
How do I get the downloads and movie transfers to go to the right folder other than drag/drop ?
    Thanks

Follow the steps in the article from which you posted your question, they do work.
If you are having issues, provide some information about exactly which step is giving issues.
Alternatively, if all of your media is in the existing iTunes Media folder, do the following:
    Close iTunes.
Move the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the current location to the new desired location.
    While holding <SHIFT> launch iTunes.
When prompted to created new or locate iTunes library file, point iTunes to the new location.
Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced and change the library location to the new location.
    Close iTunes and relaunch.
    Confirm everything is working correctly.

  • ITunes library location resetting itself

I have moved my iTunes Library to a server drive so that it can be backed up, but iTunes keeps resetting it to my local hard drive. I had first moved the library several weeks ago, and then accidentally discovered it had changed back to my local hard drive all by itself at some point. I had moved it prior to the recent 6.0 and 6.0.1 releases (currently running 6.0.1), so I thought maybe the upgrade from 5 had reset it. A couple of nights ago, I got it all cleaned up and recombined back on the server drive. I had downloaded the 2 new free downloads this week, and then had numerous podcast updates during the day. That night, I found that again the location of my library has changed back to my local hard drive, and those downloads I had just done had went there. Again, I changed the library location through Preferences (with the "Keep iTunes Music folder oganized" and "Copy files to iTunes Music folder" options checked), and then "Consolidated" the library. Today, at around 4:00 this afternoon, it again switched back to the default C: drive location, when no one was even home. What's up with this? iTunes is supposed to allow changing of the library location, and I have followed the proper procedures, but it will not stay!
    Help!

Speculation about future iTunes releases, features, or bug fixes is not allowed to be discussed here, but I can safely say that iTunes 7 won't be out for a long time. We went from 4.9 to 6 in six weeks recently. Highly unusual, and I don't expect that to be repeated anytime soon. However, that doesn't mean version 6 won't be updated.
What's important to remember is that your setup isn't the majority of iTunes' target market. That translates into your feature request or bug fix requirement probably being lower on the ladder of priority.
What would be useful to the iTunes community here is someone to volunteer to do some extensive testing and report the results.
    - try multiple network/mount methods
    - quit/launch iTunes quickly and see if there's any correlation with the speed of disk access
    - make a note of any other processes that may have locked the network volume for a brief period, causing iTunes not to have access

  • How can I move an mp3 podcast from music to podcast library?

I am downloading archived podcasts manually and when I import them into iTunes they show up in my music list. How can I get them into my podcast library?

Right-click the track(s), Get Info, go to the Options tab and set "Media Kind" to "Audiobook."

  • ITunes freezes when i try to open Podcasts library

Every time i click on Podcasts library, the app freezes!

    try these user tips:
try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.
and, if you have flip4mac installed
I found that the TSLicense plugin was causing the problem.
    From the log:
    PlugIn Path: /Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/Versions/A/TSLicense
    PlugIn Identifier: net.telestream.license
This pIugin is installed with the Flip4Mac Windows Media Components. I solved the problem by uninstalling the WM Components via the uninstaller at /Applications/Flip4Mac/Flip4Mac WMV Uninstaller.pkg, after which iTunes opens successfully.

  • How do I stop Itunes from changing my library location

Is there just no answer to what should be a simple setting change?? No matter what I do, Itunes insists on changing my library location the instant there's any problem talking to my network share where all of my music is. This is absolutely ridiculous because this is on a laptop and there are times when the network connection is just not up yet, or whatever. Then it takes 10 minutes for me to change it back and let it figure everything out again. Has anyone ever been able to resolve this? I'd rather Itunes just return an error that tells me it can't read my library than to change it on me....

Have struggled with this issue in the past. In my experience, there is no simple, painless solution. I attempted to transfer my entire internal drive to my new external where there were copies of all the songs in place. Check to see how your library is organized on your network drive. Is it by media content (e.g. separate folders within /users/music/itunes/ folder such as Music, TV Shows, Movies, etc.)? Or are the various media types all lumped within a single iTunes Music Folder? If there is a discrepancy between your internal and external Library configurations iTunes struggles to cope. Can't say why this is  the case, but I found that the only solution was to throoughly uninstall itunes via terminal (or using an app such as 'Amnesia'), reinstalling iTunes, and creating the library from scratch using files that are located on the external/network drive. I'm a moderately savvy programmer and I couldn't for the life of me get iTunes to build my library from an XML playlist that I modified to reflect the changed directory location of the new library on  my external, but if you are more competent and patient than I am I'm convinced that the proper alteration of the Master library build would result in a seamless relocating of you media library as far as itunes is concerned. One last thing, make sure you click the 'I'll Add files myself later' option if you do choose to reinstall itunes just to cover your bases. sorry i can't give you a more helpful response--iTunes is a cruel mistress sometimes.
but: Used to introduce something contrasting with what has already been mentioned

  • Can I transfer a podcast library from a Nano to iTunes?

My library on my computer appeared to have been corrupted and I have wiped out the podcast library on my iPad.  My Nano is still clean and I seem to have iTunes working again.  Is it possible to transfer saved podcasts from the Nano back into the library on the computer?

Have you failed to maintain a backup copy of your computer?
If so, not good, you can transfer itunes purchases from the ipod.  File>Devies>Transfer Purchases

  • Can't change itunes library location to external hard drive

I did have my itunes library location set to an external disk (my time capsule) and this worked great with my macbook pro. However, the macbook pro "died" last week and now I'm trying to set my new replacement imac itunes library to also be the external hard drive.
The advance tab on itunes preferences indicates that library location is set as requested however, I can't see any of my music in my itunes window.
I could of course just copy my music on to my new computer but that'll take ages and I'd rather keep it on the time capsule.
    Many thanks
    Anna

So the additional step  need to do was make sure the copy files to itunes media folder is unchecked and the go to itunes>files>add to library then select my itunes music folder in my itunes location on the time capsule. Done!

  • How to upload podcasts which are not in the iTunes podcast library?

or how to create a playlist of podcasts?
I have some podcasts as mp3 files I'd like to upload. These podcasts are not in the Itunes podcast library. I downloaded them from another source. What I do not understand is why iTunes makes a difference between podcast mp3 files and music mp3 files. If I put my podcasts into a playlist and try to synchronise the playlist with iPhone, the files are not uploaded. Actually I do not see the playlist listed in the page "Music" of my device "iPhone".
    Any ideas?

  • How to add Software Library Location in OEM 11g to facilitate patching.

    Hi,
I'd like to use patching deployment to patch a gold copy oracle home, that is not being actively used.
I'm tryingt to configure the deployment setup and on the screen where it says.
    Information
You are adding a Software Library location for the first time. Provisioning Archive (PAR) files in the directories $OMS_ORACLE_HOME/sysman/prov/paf and $OMS_ORACLE_HOME/sysman/admin/deploymentprocedures will be uploaded.
Add a new Software Library by specifying directory location. In case of multiple Oracle Management Service (OMS) setup, specify normal preferred credentials for each host running OMS.
         * Software Library Directory Location
    when I enter a location , e.g
    /oracleinstall/software/oemsoftwarelib
    whos persmissions are as follows
    drwx------ 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Feb 23 12:25 oemsoftwarelib
I get just get the following
Internal Error has occurred. Check the log file for details.
does anybody know what the problem might be and which log exactly to look in?
    thanks

    Hi,
You should look at OMS log/trace files in the .../gc_inst/em/EMGC_OMS<n>/sysman/log directory to get clues on the error.
Check Support Note 1156825.1, which documents a similar symptom.
Note that in a multi-OMS environment, the software library location must be readable and writable from all OMS hosts.

  • How do I manually import a .mov file and add it to my podcast library?

    Hi all,
I'm a fan of "theshow" by zefrank and when I finally discovered it was available via iTunes, I subscribed. However, iTunes does not pick up all the early episodes.
I found that I could download them onto my desktop as .mov files - but I can't seem to get them into my Podcasts library - only the Movies library.
    Any advice?
    TIA.

    BUMP
On the same note, I have some podcasts that are listed in iTunes (and exist in the ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Podcasts folder) but will not play. I can play them via the Finder though.
Is there any way to tell iTunes where the files are? (I thought we used to be able to do this in previous versions.)

  • Changed library location

I'd like to start by saying that finding an answer to a simple question, something that should have been intuitive and simple to figure out, is, and always has been a struggle here at Apple.com.
My question: I have moved to a new location and no longer have a desktop computer with attached storage for my libraries (that was a Win 7 machine). I am now using network attached storage for my libraries and files, the same structure (basically copies) as before except NAS now.
Every file in itunes points to the old desktop computer, how do I clear all references to that computer? I have changed the library location in preferences to point  to the new volume.
I'm tired of searching and going around in circles for something that should have been in the application help file.
When I get this figured out will I have to spend days removing duplicates?
I have a large music library, years ago when I bought new drives I went through this and it took nearly 2 days for iTunes to go through the entire library. And yep, I've now forgot how to do it. It took days on the internet to figure that one out as I recall too.
    Please help!

Take a look at this link for moving your files (did you follow these steps) http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364
Also take a look at this link, the important note is if you click the button to keep iTunes media organized http://www.tuaw.com/2012/12/26/how-to-move-your-itunes-library-to-a-nas/

  • Moved media to TC. Now itunes keeps changing default library location

I realize this might be better suited in the iTunes discussion forum however...
I recently purchased a time capsule and moved all my media to the new drive. I changed the default library location in preferences. Problem is, every time I quit and relaunch iTunes, the default library location reverts back to my old location on my mac. Any ideas how I can get iTunes to remember my new default location? It's as if it's picking up a location file somewhere that is telling it to create a new library on my mac's hard drive.
    Thanks for any input.

I don't have a TC but I also keep my iTunes library on an external Firewire drive and the following is the behaviour. Maybe it's so for you too:
    • When the firewire drive is mounted on the desktop and I open iTunes, iTunes will link back to the library on the firewire drive.
    • When the firewire drive is unmounted and I open iTunes, iTunes preferences will revert the library to default back to the internet drive.
    • BUT, when I remount the firewire drive, and open iTunes again (after it's been closed), iTunes preferences will automatically go back to linking the library on the firewire drive.
So in short: when unmounted, iTunes links music library to the original default which is the internal drive. When mounted, iTunes will automatically relink music back to the firewire drive.
Does it work like so for iTunes on Time Capsule?
