Pointer when adding audio to clip

When adding audio/music to a clip (not background) it sits below the clip with a small arrow/pointer pointing to the clip. What does that pointer indicate? Why does it move? Can someone point me to resourcs that explain that in detail?
Thanks

I think you are right that the marker "stays". I don't have any special insight to how this was coded by Apple, but it appears to me that you initially attach the audio to a certain frame in a certain clip. Later you can drag the audio forward or backward, and it may remain attached to the initial frame, but be given an offset. For example, the audio is attached to frame five of clip three, but the audio actually begins at -30 or 30 frames to the left of the anchor frame.
I think if you experimented with it, you might find that if you delete the clip with the anchor frame, the audio is deleted, too, but I don't have time to test this right now.

  • Program freezes when adding text to clip

    Hi,
I have sent a 40 minute slideshow to PE7. I am splitting the slide show at various points and inserting short video clips. After having added text to both photos and video two or three times, I now find that the program freezes when I either try to add further text or even if I try to edit previously inserted text.
Has anyone a solution to this please?
    Thanks
    Jim
P.S. the reason I am adding video to the slide show and not the other way around is that I like the pan and zoom facility of the slide show which is not available as a transition in PE7.
Apparently I cannot add video clips to slide shows in PSE 7 - or at least not more than 5 seconds of video at a time.

    Hi, Thanks for you reply.
The photos are between 1 to 3 MB each if thats any help, My Sony Handycam was set to 16:9 format but I can't select this in Project preferences which seems fixed at 4:3. The point is that I have used photos of this size in a project containing both photos and video previously without problems. I have not tried to splice video footage into an imported slide show before.
    I will investigate further later.
    Thanks again

  • When adding audio to my webpage do I have to add a photo as well?

    Hello,
I just set up my website using iweb and it was really fun and easy. I added an audio file to one of my pages and it required me to add a photo or it wouldn't add the song.
    Can this be changed?
    Thanks, Chad
    Powerbook G4 1.5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

A clip from the help file:
    To add audio:
In the site organizer, select the webpage you want to add the audio to.
    Do one of the following:
To add a single audio file, drag it to the image placeholder on a webpage or to the webpage canvas. If you drag the audio file to the image placeholder on a blog (the Blog or Podcast template), iWeb creates a podcast. (See the podcast topics below.)
To add more than one audio file, drag them to the webpage canvas. (Select more than one file at a time by Command-clicking.)
To add links to the songs in the iTunes Music Store (not the audio files themselves), drag a playlist (from the Media Browser or iTunes) or a song from the iTunes Music Store to the webpage canvas.
If you added audio files (not links), you can drag a graphics file to the placeholder above each song's audio controls. Or you can create a text box with a solid color fill to put over the placeholder. You can resize the graphic and the audio controls by dragging the handles.

  • Level change when adding audio keyframes

    Hi all,
I've been in Avid Land for the last few months and just came back and noticed something that was getting on my nerves when I left (I don't recall seeing this before FCP 6). When I add keyframes to my audio levels with the pen tool, I get a keyframe, but at the same time, it lowers my level as if I had added a keyframe and then dragged it down. As far as I can tell it does this every time.
Does anyone know what this is about?
    Thanks,
    Matt

I was having this problem, so just before I composed this reply I did some tests. It could well be 'sloppy mouse work' but I don't think so. This time the audio level went up by 1 db but before it was dropping by 1 db when adding a keyframe. During the test, no matter how accurate I was the audio level changed when adding a keyframe. The track I was working on was enlarge somewhat and the problem didn't happen on standard sized tracks. I feel that this has to be some sort of bug.
I have always found FCP a little bit on the 'accurate' side. You have to be very precise when clicking on items otherwise you will miss. Some buttons are way too small and I think Apple could improve the FCP workflow by enlarging some buttons and allowing more space around clickable items.
A good example of this is the 3 way colour corrector. The left and right buttons for blacks/mids/whites are very hard to hit and I quite often hit the maximum by mistake.
I have worked on many non-linear systems and FCP is the only one where mouse accuracy is so important.
I am, to some extent used to this now and I suppose it is a minor inconvenience in comparison to the benefits of using FCP but, in the interests of improvement and ease of use it would be good if Apple could take this onboard.
    Weenie.

  • When adding audio books to ipod either manually or by syncing, the tracks seem to be in the right order but they play back in a random order which means you can't listen to the book. How do you overcome this? (Bill)

I have tried adding audio books to my ipod classic, both by syncing and manually. The tracks come up in the right order in the menu but when listening they will often play (not always) in a random order. How do I overcome this, as it is making listening to books impossible.  (Tarraganda)

I have found the problem myself when I got into the Settings. Somehow it had been put onto shuffle all music files and once I turned that off it reverted to normal. I realised something basic was wrong when our other ipod that had been synced at the same time didn't have a problem. However, I had put all the books on manually, one album at a time as problems occurred when syncing the whole library, including multiple albums for the same piece of music.

  • IMovie crashes when adding audio clip

I am in the middle of creating a movie, everything has been going very smoothly and then suddenly iMovie started crashing whenever I try to add a sound clip to a slide.
The audio clip does initially appear to be added, but then iMovie hangs and I have to force quit.
Any ideas on why this would suddenly start occuring when everything was working fine up 'til now?

I hope you don't mind my jumping in and adding to the muddied waters, but I am also having trouble with iMovie transitions. I just bought the MacBook Pro - 200 gig hard drive with boosted RAM. I have experienced the following problems:
    1. After reading Karl's caution about iMovie trash, I don't empty the trash until the project is completed, so that's not the issue.
    2. And this is what's odd . . . I just put one movie together and had not a single glitch. I pulled stills in using Ken Burns, was able to go back and edit the clips, change transitions, etc.
    3. I have another movie that I have been working on and it was going fine UNTIL I added the first transition. After that, whenever I select a clip I get a black screen and have to reimport the photo to see it.
    4. When I try and add transitions, sometimes they work, sometimes nothing happens, sometimes the system crashes, and sometimes it looks like it is going to render, but the rendering line never progresses.
    5. I have tried deleting the plist files for both iMovie and iPhoto, and repairing permissions, but it doesn't work.
    6. No security features are turned on.
    7. I do have slick transitions, but as I said, they worked fine in the first movie (where trash was never emptied.)
This is making me crazy and is far too time consuming. Karl, any thoughts?
    Thanks so much.

  • Error When Adding Audio to Accordion Widget

I am trying to utilize the accordion widget that comes with Adobe Captivate 7. In the Widget Properties, you can add audio to the description under each tab. When I go to select a narrated audio file (that was recorded using Adobe Captivate) from the library, I get this error message stating I have "selected the wrong file type...". Has anyone encountered this? What other audio file types can be added?

I have similar bizarre behvior with the accordion widget.
I record my audio in Adobe Audition and then import to Captivate.  However, when I did this with the widget the audio did not work.  I discovered that if I edit the audio in the library, after I import it, it no longer works in the widget.  Editing audio works fine everywhere else in Captivate.
Even more bizarre, I edited an MP3 in Audition, that had been working in the widget.  I deleted the current, working, audio from the widget option, then imported the new one, but got the error This is the Wrong File Type.  This happened on multiple edited MP3 files.
So, I went back to Audition, and rather than saving the edited MP3, I re-exported it to another MP3 file, and this one imports into the widget.

  • Odd problem when adding audio from Viewer

When I load an audio clip into the Viewer, for some reason, in the Timeline there's no indication--on the far left of the TL--that audio tracks are available. Usually, there's 2 little thingamabobs that appear beside the track and you can move them to adjust which tracks will receive the audio clip. Now they don't appear. What up? Did I accidentally hit something on the keys? I can still set in/out on the clip in Viewer and drag it to the track I want, but I'd like to know the answer.

Right-click on the track indicators and choose RESET PANEL.

  • PSE 7 Crashes when adding audio?

I have Vista 64 and when i try to add audio it crashes the computer.  I have the latest driver from Realtek for my sound card.  Any sugggestions?

Do I reinstall on the same machine?  If so, will I be able to recover all fo the work I have done?
Uninstalling and reinstalling will not affect your existing catalog, nor saved slideshow projects. If you also use Premiere Elements note that PRE video projects no longer appear in the organizer, although they can still be opened directly in PRE.
Do I upgrade to the newer version?  Will I have the same issue?
Without an identified cause of the existing problem that question cannot be answered.
Shoudl I try to down load the trial version first?  Not sure if it over writes the current version and if I would lose anything?
Yes, install the trial. Multiple version of PSE can coexist. When installing a later version of PSE I always make a copy of the catalog from my previous version and convert that rather than the original.

  • Imovie shuts down when adding transition to clip

I have imovie 6.0.3 and have been having problems bringing down a transition to the picture clips. When I drag it to the clip, the imovie shuts down and throws the transition into the trash.

    Thank You..
I have another problem in my mac. Welcome to discussions, viewfinder:)
Be certain to follow Bengt's good advice:
    Quit iMovie.
Locate a file named com.apple.iMovie.plist and get
rid of it. iMovie will create a new one the next
time it runs. Empty the trash and run a permissions
repair from the Disk Utility folder.
    The files are located here:
    -->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iM
    vie.plist
Also, please answer regarding the amount of free
space you have left on the Mac.

  • Audio authorization trouble when adding audio to slideshow

I recently started a slideshow on iDVD '08, which by the way is AMAZING, except when I try to drag and drop a purchased audio file from the media browser 2 the editing window, it asks me to authorize the file through iTunes. Thing is, I've authorized my entire music library already, so what gives? I authorize the song file, try to play it in the slideshow, but I get the same message asking me to authorize the song file, again! Help!

Seems to be a recent bug that is effecting many people. The short term work around until Apple fixes the issue is to put your purchased songs in a playlist, burn that playlist out to an Audio CD (a CD-RW might be good for this if you need to do it often), then re-import the song from the burned CD in any format you fish, although AIFF might be best for iDVD use.

  • Captivate 5.5 Software simulation video crashes when adding audio recording

I run Windows 7 and Adobe captivate crashes after trying to start a audio recording in software simulation. My simulation is ready and the moment, I click the "record audio" button, the application freezes and I have to go to end the application via Task Manager.
    Solution approaches:
I have started Captivate as administrator and that didn't help.
I have then tried to look up my preferences but didn't find any files which i could identify as preferences.
I have already tried the solution in the Note below (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/759455)
    Help please.
    Thanks,
    A

I am having similar issues, but with the internal speach generator. I have both simulation and demonstration videos. I was able to enter text and convert to Paul's voice without issue, but the minute I tried to add closed captions Captivate totally locked up. And now when I try to do any sort of audio edit, no matter which method of access to the audio (using Audio - Audio Management or Audio - Speech Management or the Add/Edit Audio buttons in the Properties window or using the Closed Caption button in the Slide Notes tab or double click the audio wave file in the Timeline tab) Captivate totally locks up. I was originally able to create 1 file with closed captions but now it also locks up when I try to edit and no other file will let me add CC or use the Audio edit features.
Captivate 5.5, Windows 7; run captivate as admin or not - no difference. Run captivate on my primary or secondary monitor - no difference; run captivate with or without other applications open - no difference.
When I force close using Task Manager I did get a CpDump file that was created. Not sure what to do with that...I submitted a bug but have heard nothing back.
I did follow the steps in the earlier referenced link about deleting the preferences. I also did not find a specific file/folder labeled preferences but my IT group said it was OK to delete the entire final folder in the referenced chain (Captivate 5). Once I did that, I had access to my Closed Captions again and could edit the audio.

  • Is there a fix for CS6 Photoshop crash when adding audio track?

I tried posting this problem yesterday, but have gotten no response:
I'm video editing using Photoshop CS6 (NOT Premiere! NOT CC) and I'm consistently experiencing an application crash (i.e. quit) within a second of selecting/loading an audio track to my edited video. My video is about 3min long in 1080p and I'm running OSX Yosemity on a 13" MacPro Retina w/16GB internal memory. Is there a fix (or even a known cause) for this problem?
Since my original post I've tried using a smaller video format (i.e. 720p) and shorter length(i.e. 40 sec), but to no avail. Photoshop CS6 still quit immediately after loading an audio track and fail to save.
    Other info I can add: Yosemite 10.10.2, Photoshop CS6 13.0 x64

    Use a proper video application.

  • Powerpoint crashes when adding audio to powerpoint 2007

Hello. I am running a 64 bit Windows Vista machine, 2007 version of Powerpoint, and the latest licensed version 7.0.7 of Presenter. Each time I try to add audio to a slide the system asks me to check my audio, then crashes, losing all unsaved files. I have reinstalled several times, rebooted, used both new and old ppt files, and have deleted Temp files on my computer. Nothing works. I have spent hours trying to troubleshoot this issue. Do you have any other ideas of why this is happening and what to try?
    J.

Sounds like some sort of system specific audio driver conflict. Have you checked to make sure your audio card drivers are the most up to date? Have you considered moving to Windows 7 which is massively more secure and better performing? I use a Mac but even I would try to move off Vista as quickly as I could knowing all the issues with Vista. I think it would be worth your trouble just upgrading to Windows 7. I'm not being critical so please don't take it that way but it's well known that Vista was pretty problematic from the start in so many ways that many people quickly upgraded to Win7 or waited and stayed on XP because of the Vista problems.
If you cannot move to Win7 then as a troubleshooting measure try another PC and see if you have the issue there. Another option would be to try using VMWare and load up another OS like XP and see if you get the same issue. It's really a matter of isolating the problem on this PC.
    Good luck.
