Poor quality full screen QT movie

I need to export a FCP movie to be played on a computer screen using Quicktime. I tried the H.264 settings. The movie looks great when played in Quicktime...until viewed in full screen. Then the quality of the image is poor. Are there any special settings that would allow a full screen QT movie to look good?

Look... not going to silly slap you, but you need to put your common sense cap on and think this one thru...
You shot a video... you edited it in what... 720x480 dv?
Do you know what those numbers mean? They're lines of pixel lines (kindof).
If your monitor was 720x480 they'd look great... try it on a TV that tv is 720x480.
Your computer monitor is NOT 720x480... in fact, mine is 19xx by 12xx or some such numbers.
Your video pixels will now be THREE times bigger!! EACH ONE!!! Now do you see why it looks jagged? You are seeing the individual pixels. h.264 is even worse.
OK...
Tell us again what you THINK you want to do, and what format the original video is in.

Well I figured it out, right click the arrow that makes the screen bigger and unclick the Hide Toolbar. I knew it couldn't be that hard.

Quality Full Screen preview in PRE7

I know that for 9 out of 10 of all the questions there is only one person to blame. Indeed it's yourself.
Hopefully it is the same with this.
1st of all I'm not bothered by too much knowledge about the technics, but my choice for the Sony SR11 was based on quality. So is my monitor (Full HD) and so my television set (also Full HD)
So what I'm surprised about, is that PRE7 has to render imported AVCHD files. No transitions and/or effects just playback the imported file Full Screen (So in my case full HD)
What a difference in quality with the Sony playback utilities on my computer!
I tried to go through the video render settings, but my attention was not drawn to strange settings. In fact my computer will not be able to continue with AVCHD editing (no surprise, a calculated risk), but during this testphase is should do the required job.
Who is getting me out of a scrape?

Windows Media Player is a media player. Premiere Elements is an editor. How can you compare the two of them?

Magix is mere toy. Full of bugs and un-reliability. It's user interace is completely awkward. I tlso plant cache and database files all over your computer like a virus.
If you feel the Magix software can compare at all to Premiere Elements, then by all means use it.

Full Screen i-movie

Realize this is a really basic question but can't find the answer, sorry. I created an i-movie and posted it to my i-web site. I cannot figure out how to allow it to play in full screen mode. Can someone help me out? Thanks

Poor quality resolution in my movies

My holiday movies didn't appear on the ATV movies list, so i converted them in iTunes for iPod and the quality is really poor. Any suggestions..?

You could try exporting them from iMovie if you have the original projects or .dv files, otherwise you may be able to use QuickTime Pro to export the media to Apple TV format. Knowledge base article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304974 may provide you with additional information.

Poor quality when exporting to MOV (H264/AAC) with CS5 and CS5.5

Hi there,
I need to export my HDV sequence (1440*1080 Pixel 1,33 25fps) using HDV footage only to MOV format (with H264 / AAC codecs).
I'm using 1024*576 (1.0) SD preset with a correct video bitrate CBR 6mbs and the Quality is awful.
When I use the H264 format ( to get a .MP4 file) with the same preset (1024*576 square pixel >> CBR 6mbs) the quality is quite good. I 'm pretty happy with that. The only thing is that my client (TV) needs the clip in MOV format (including H264/AAC codecs) and the quality is awful. They expect me to use FCP as most of the journalists here in France use this application.
I tried with PREMIERE CS5 on a PC (windows 7 64 bits) >> 8G0 RAM, Dual Core
and with PREMIERE PRO CS5.5 on a mac
Same awful result when trying to export to MOV (H264/AAC).
I heard that PREMIERE can't properly export to this format? Is this correct? If so, i need to convince my client to use only MP4 (H264/AAC) files since I don't really wanna use Final Cut Pro or Media Composer to edit and export my clip.
Any tips ?

I had similar quality issues exporting H264 from PPro vs. Avid Media Composer. CHeck out this thread link http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854379?tstart=0.
I found it pretty helpful, it also links to another reference thread.
I think it's possible, but will take a bit of trial and error.

Poor quality video screen

Just bought the new Ipod with video. while attempting to clean the screen I somehow damaged the display by applying to much presure with my thumb. Returned to the store and after an hour wait, I was turned away. This device is too delicate for a hand held. Good luck with your piece of junk!

Photoshop Elements 11 Organizer: Full screen view of lower quality than with PSE 10 and before?!

Upgrading from PSE 10 to 11, I noticed that when I watch my images with the organizer in PSE 11 in full screen view mode (F11), while the images load faster, they are shown in a lower quality than in PSE 10 or any other version of PSE that I owned before. In PSE 11, after the initial viewing in full screen (in the "fit screen" mode), when I click with the mouse on an image to display the "100%" view, there is a delay and the program says "Loading...", after which the 100% view in the full screen mode appears. When I then click another time with the mouse on the image to get back to "fit screen" mode, I get an image of better quality than during the initial view!
So it seems like the program first gives a faster, but lower quality view of the image in full screen mode, and only after the user requests a 100% view, it actually loads the image with full detail, which is then preserved when going back to the "fit screen" view. This is a serious issue for me, because I also use PSE organizer to present my pictures to other people, and I don't want to show them some lower quality versions of my images, but the full quality ones, without having to first choose "100% view" and then go back to "fit screen".
How can I make the PSE 11 organizer give me a full-quality full screen image right away, as this used to be the case in PSE10 and before?
(I have both versions, PSE 11 and PSE 10, now on the same computer and tested this to confirm that the PSE 11 initial full screen view is of lower quality than the PSE 10 one. Also in PSE 10, there is practically no delay for displaying the "100%" view afterwards, indicating that the image was loaded with full detail right away.)

"Thank you for contacting Adobe.
When you press the F11 button, Organizer 11 uses the Bicubic
interpolation mainly because it is less processor intensive compared to
Bicubic Sharper, and it helps to create the preview on the fly, rather
than based on the thumbnail cache.
When you zoom out from the 100% view, Elements Organizer uses Bicubic
Sharper. This is because Bicubic Sharper is used for image reduction, so
if the 100% view is larger than the available screen space, it will need
to shrink. The Bicubic Sharper images may look more crisp however, Like
any sharpening algorithm, Bicubic Sharper introduces halos and
edge-enhancement artifacts. Those halos are typically slight, but any
further sharpening (which you'll need when preparing an image for print,
for example) will exaggerate them.This is expected behavior. The
Organizer isn't great for determining exact quality, I recommend you to
use Elements Editor for this purpose.

Why I am wondering about the choice to use the "Bicubic" algorithm when pressing F11 in PSE 11 is that all previous versions of PSE that I owned (which spans from PSE 6 to PSE 10) did use the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm right away when pressing F11. So apparently Adobe didn't worry about processor intensity of this algorithm then, and computers are getting all the time more powerful.
It is true that in some situations, the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm may introduce halos and edge-enhancement artifacts, as you write. On the other hand, especially on smaller resolution screens, the results of the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm may look more crisp and lively, while the ones of the "Bicubic" algorithm may look more flat and lack fine detail. For instance, F11 gives full screen view with "Bicubic" applied, and CTRL+F11 with "Bicubic sharper"? Or make this an option in the preferences?
As I am using the PSE organizer also to present pictures to other people (and I know many people who use it that way too), I would like to show them my pictures as sharp and detail-rich as possible. Therefore, I would highly appreciate an option as described above to be implemented in the PSE 11 organizer via an update. It should be fairly easy from a programming point of view, since both algorithms are already contained in the program anyway."

Automatically open movies in Quicktime Full Screen

I know that if I open a movie file in Quicktime I can go to to:
window/show movie properties/presentation/enter full screen mode when opened
& then the movie will start on full screen when i play it. But how can i avoid this step if i want all movies to play on full screen by default ? How can i edit Quicktime to open full screen every movie?
Can i enter a command on terminal and it will do the trick? or a script? automator?

Limnos, thanks for your reply ; ) On VLC you go to preferences, choose full screen as default and voila, from now on movie files will open full screen. I am sure there is a way to make full screen the default view option on Quicktime but until now I can't still find it : (
ps. I know is command+F but lets be minimalist, if you don't need this another step, lets avoid it ; ) -as i said on vlc you cant avoid it. I know Steve dislikes extra steps if unnecessary, i also do ^_-

DVD Quality and Screen Image Size Issue

When I export an iPhoto slide show to a QuickTime movie (.mov), the result is a beautiful, high quality full screen movie, when played on my iMac. When I use that same slide show in iDVD, and burn a DVD, the quality of the slide show is not as sharp and it is not full screen. Are there some settings I can use to correct this? Is there a later version of iDVD that would correct this? Or is there some non-Apple software that will do a better job? Thanks.

Using OSX 10.5.8, iPhoto 8.1.2, iDVD 7.0.4.

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:

Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie 6 as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!

Safari won't open in full screen

I had to erase my hard drive and reinstall OSX 10.8.2 on my MBA. Now after I quit Safari in Full Screen on my MBA it won't open again in full screen as it did before I erased and reinstalled OSX. My Mac Mini has always reopened Safari in Full Screen after I close it in Full Screen. All Safari preferences on my Mac Mini and MBA are the same.
Can someone offer a suggestion on how to automatically open Safari in Full Screen?
