Poor quality glossy LCD screen

I'm really disappointed by the quality of the glossy LCD screen on my MacBook Pro. I have at least 15 grey 'dots' (the Genius at the Genius Bar said they're not really pixels since they're not completely square in shape), one clearly dead pixel, and I also have things that look like dust particles (like Kleenex lint) that's trapped in the LCD, about five particles clustered on the right edge of the screen. And it's just about a month since I bought it.
It just bugs me that they have such poor QC. The Genius advised me to call Apple Care since I purchased the laptop online. Hopefully they can do something about it.

I'm not aware of anything in the Hardware Profiler that will tell you which display you have. If you can see reflections on the screen (they are particularly visible if the display is showing something dark and there's something light behind you) then the screen is glossy. A matte display is like frosted glass so it won't show any clear reflections on it.

  • Extreme poor quality in full screen preview and exported movie

I have spend evenings and evenings to create the content of a project.
After dealing with error -108 and extreme poor quality in full screen preview and in exported movies (extreme stuttering) I decided to install my iMac new again.
The error -108 disappeared, but the extreme stuttering still remained in full screen preview and in exported movies.
If I make the preview screen in the iMovie browser as big as possible there is nothing to see of any stuttering.
Now I am getting pretty annoyed and have no clue what to do anymore (how to solve this problem) .....
    Anyone any suggestion ?
The orginal video was recorded with a Panasonic HD camcorder.
I do have a mid 2011 iMac with 16GB ram and 256GB SSD and 1TB HD with a complete clean installation
of OS X Lion and iLife. This configuration should be enough to create a proper movie :-(

Potentially, yes. The standard Preview is 1024 pixels, longest size. Some people (like Omke) have displays 2560 pixels longest side, potentially increasing file size by over 500%.

  • Is there a way I can tell if I have glossy or non-glossy LCD screen?

    Hi,
I bought my MacBook Pro about a year ago and I don't remember if I have a glossy or non-glossy LCD screen. Some people say you can look at it and tell, but I don't know what I am looking for. My invoice doesn't say.
    Any thoughts?

  • Poor Quality in Wide-Screen When Exporting HD to Quicktime

    Hello all...
I'm working on a fairly large project in iMovie HD with wide-screen footage from my Sony HDR-HC3 and have hit a wall.
I can't seem to get a good result when I export clips into Quicktime in a wide-screen format. They are a bit choppy & you can see bits of some horizontal lines. The same video exported in full-screen VGA looks great. Any tips...? I basically just want to make good quality QT movies watchable on my computer that maintain the original aspect ratio (and LOOK like they do in iMovie!)
The entire project is around 100GB and I currently have almost 40GB of free space. Any help appreciated!

  • 32 GB ipod Touch 4G LCD screen color quality

I have recently bough an 32 gb Ipod Touch 4G. However, the LCD screen color quality is significantly lower compared to my old 8 GB ipod Touch 4G. The black is more gray and the white is more blue, and the overall colors are more washed out compare to the 8 GB. On the other hand the viewing angles are a bit better, which i dont care.
I was very disappointed about the product. If i were'nt an ipod 4G user before, i may not be notice the difference.
However, if you compare it side by side, the difference is huge for me. Once i put them together, i decided not to use the new one. It lost the meaning for me.
Is Apple changed the LCD's in new products. A picture is worth to million words I will submit a picture as soon as i can.
Is there a software solution for this or any idea how to fix it ?

I had a similar issue with mine. It seemed like it had a yellowish hue to it. I called Apple and sent it in. They sent it back and said there was nothing wrong with it. I always thought the screens were the same as on the iPhone 4, but they are NOT! I sold mine on eBay and bought a used iPhone 4. What a difference!

  • Poor Quality Images/Slides - is there a solution?

    Hey everyone,
I'm putting together a simple video that uses the occasional slide from a powerpoint presentation. I import the slides as JPGs, matched to the frame size of the video. It looks OK when I preview the movie... but when I export, it quality is very poor. It's hard to read the text in the images, and the overall presentation looks quite unprofessional.
I have some experience in video editing, but this is my first project in Final Cut Express. I am trying to render the movie first (but it only takes a few seconds for a 15min clip.. so i wonder if I'm doing it right?).
The main issue is the poor quality slides. I don't have to use JPGs... as I'm a designer, and can use a variety of formats. The most important thing is that the powerpoint slides look clean, crisp and professional.
Any help, suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I know nothing about Powerpoint slides but could this be the same problem you get when trying to put the Computer screen on a video?
It looks horribly blurred and jittery because you are squeezing a screen of at least 1200 x 900 pixels onto a DV frame of 768 x 576.
Any detail is totally lost and the overall effect is blurred.
There is no cure unless you can edit and display in high definition.
So could that be your problem?
A normal JPEG photograph should look fine on TV, especially an LCD or plasma one.

  • How do i connect an ipod lcd screen to a zen visio

My zen vision m lcd screen recently cracked and after getting the full run around and reading up on the net, I bought a 2.5" lcd ipod replacement screen for $0 off of ebay. I really don't watch much movies so the quality doesn't really matter as long as I can see my music and audiobooks. So here is the problem:
They both have 32 pin connectors that attach to the 32 contact ribbon connector, but the ipod ribbon is about half the size of the zen's.
I would like to connect the new screen and have a couple of options.
. connect the ipod screen ribbon to the zen's ribbon, then connect to the player.
    2. somehow solder the ipod connector to the motherboard directly
    3. solder the ipod connector to the casing on the motherboard
    Problems:
. I don't even know if the connectors go to the same places, therefore don't know if it will work even if I do figure out how to do so.
    2. I have no idea how to go about soldering ribbon connectors because the wires are so close together.
    3. Any solder job that I could do would probably preclude me from putting everything back into the player.
If anybody has any ideas (other than buy a new one or pay the ridiculous $20 to fix it) your help is much appreciated and will probably help a whole mess of people.
    Thanks in advance.

  • IPod Nano LCD screen cracking/scratching

i am a possible, going to be nano buyer and i was wondering if anyone who is a owner has had problems with the screen cracking and/or scratching. Also this is a question for owners with the problem and APPLE if the screen gets cracked or overally scratched withing warranty will apple replace it with a new one? also for people in singapore is there anywhere that i can get a 4GB nano, as most places have said they dont have them. thank you
      Windows XP

The screen scratching issue is really going to depend on just how badly you treat the device. I don't know how the screens are getting so badly scratched, and in normal use I can't see anything other than normal wear and tear. My 3G iPod is the same - a few scuffs and scratches, but nothing to stop it working.
If on the other hand you place the nano into your pocket without a protective case, keep change and car keys in the same pocket, then yes, it WILL get scratched. If you drop it or drag it over rough surfaces, if you take a sharp implement to it, if you use abrasive cleaners on it... and probably loads of other 'ifs', you'll get scratches on it.
They are not indestructible and the LCD screen is not harder than diamond. Take care of your Nano and you should be fine.
Taking it back with scratches through normal wear and tear, or through poor care, will not get you a replacement. You would have to show that it was an actual fault with the Nano itself, and I get the distinct feeling most are fine
As for purchasing a 4GB model, have you tried the online Apple store?

  • Camtasia Poor Quality in Premiere CS4 Export

I am a PC user. One of my clients uses Mac and Camtasia to screen capture his software program, which I need to integrate into a video I am making for his company. The MP4 Camptasia file he sends me looks good. I bring the file into Premiere to edit it, but when I export it, the clip done with Camtasia has very poor quality, while the footage I shot with my video camera looks great.
    Specs:
    Camera: HMC40, PH mode 1080/60i (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression).
    PC: i7 quad-core 64-bit running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, 8 GB RAM.
Editor: Premiere CS4 in the Adobe CS4 Master Collection .
New Sequence setup in Premiere: AVCHD > 1080i > AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) Anamorphic.
    Premiere’s export settings:
    Format: MPEG2
Preset: HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality
Multiplexer tab > Bitrate and Buffering Details: Variable
Video Tab > Basic Video Settings > Quality: 5
    Field Order > None (progressive)
    Profile > Main
Bitrate Settings: Bitrate Encoding: VBR 2Pass
      Minimum Bitrate: 4 (default)
      Target Bitrate: 15 (default)
      Maximum Bitrate: 18.5 (default)
    GOP Settings > M Frames: 3 (default)
      N Frames: 15 (default)
Output summary: NTSC, 1920X1080, 29.97 drop frame (fps), Progressive, Quality 5.0
Note in general: I found that if I set the Bitrate Encoding at VBR 1Pass, I got glitches sporadically.Using VBR 2Pass has solved this.
My question about the Camtasia clip:
    1) How can I get the Camtasia footage to be as sharp in the export as in the original?
    Other questions in general:
    2) Are my New Sequence setting in Premiere correct? AVCHD > 1080i > AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) Anamorphic
    3) Is my choice to export as MPEG2, HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality preset, the best for the footage I shoot?
    4) Is my choice to set the Multiplexer tab > Bitrate and Buffering Details at ‘Variable’ the best?
    5) Do my Bitrate and GOP settings need adjustment?
    6) Should my Export field order be Upper instead of Progressive?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    The frame rate is 1038 X 882
That is a very odd frame size, and one that probably won't work well no matter what workflow you use.  You asked:
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
how could he better capture and export to match my workflow?
Have him capture and export to match your desired export frame size for the finished project.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
How would you suggest I change my workflow to handle the interlaced and progressive issue?
I can't answer that until I know exactly how you intend to deliver your finished video.  Any answers to your other questions will also likely depend on your intended delivery format and media.

  • DVI or VGA to view 'Front Row' on LCD Screen?

I just purchased MacBook and i would like to view iTunes movies or pictures through my TV (its LCD screen). Im not sure which connection would be the best S-video, DVI or VGA? If somebody have any experience with it I would really apprecite the help.

It all depends on your TV. You can only use what your TV allows. If it has DVI, that would be better than VGA. Stay away from S-Video if you can. It's video quality is pretty bad.

  • Qosmio X305 screen not displaying like my desktops LCD screen

My screen seems to be displaying dull images.
I'm kinda concerened, because it's an LCD screen, and its not displaying like my desktops LCD screen.
I put the brightness up, and that helped to see the images better, but they still are not of the quality they should be.
Is there a way to fix this? Or is that just how it is?

Many Desktop LCD Monitors can get very bright, much brighter than most notebooks. So it may just be how it is. Perhaps you could go to the shops and compare it to other X300's on display.
Try resetting or modifying the Contrast/Colour/Brightness settings in the nVidia control panel.

  • 23" LCD screen (LG) VGA w/nVidia GeForce2 MX on a G4 Quicksilver

I just bought an LCD screen not too long ago, and it works fine with my old G3 (ATI 3D Rage Pro 6MB) although I have to use a Mac to VGA converter with it. However, on my G4 which has VGA and ADC outputs, when I connect with a VGA cable, the graphics don't look good at all. It's very streaky; for example, if there's a black terminal window, the black from the terminal window streaks across the screen. I think it must be something with the graphics card, although it worked fine with my older CRT displays, so maybe it's just a conflict between my screen and the graphics card (not sure what conflict, though). With my G4 I've tried it with Linux and MacOS X, and with my G3 I tried it with OS 9 and an older version of Linux. It worked fine in both cases on my G3, but in neither case on my G4 could I avoid the streakiness. Please let me know if you need more information. I appreciate your help.

    Hi-
Streakiness could be due to a poor cable or connector.
Having said that, it could be the analog side of the card is bad, or, simply that the Geforce2 won't do well with *widescreen LDC* panels through VGA.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25232
The Geforce2 MX will only do 1920x1200@60Hz from the ADC (digital) port.
Get an ADC to DVI adapter, and the problem is solved.

  • Poor quality image with doing videos with photos/images HELP!

    Hello,
I bought Adobe Premiere Element to make videos with pictures. When I do the video, the quality of my photos is good. When I save the video on my computer or I download it on youtube (example) the quality of my photos is extremely poor. Why? Does anyone can help me? Thank you!

What Project Preset did you choose at New Project? In the case of Video, composed of Still Images ONLY, you would set that to your desired delivery specs. Not so, if you are also using Video.  I tried several types of parameters. Some parameters give poor quality when I upload it to Youtube (for example) and others in the design of video and upload to YouTube. So which settings should I use for photos only ?
This sounds like you are talking about the Export/Share settings for output to YouTube.
What I was asking is what did you start off with, when you were at New Project?
If you are doing an SD Project, you will have either 720 x 480 (NTSC), or 720 x 576 (PAL) pixels in the Project's Frame Size. If that is what you want, then I would Scale your camera original Stills to 640 x 480 (for NTSC), as you have Square Pixels, and the Project will have either 0.9 for NTSC Standard, or 1.21 for NTSC Widescreen).
PrE can Scale the Still Images, but the Scaling algorithms in Photoshop are much better, and offer more control.
Now, if you wish to do an HD Project, just choose that as your Preset, and then use the Images in about their original size. Note, there will be some black borders, as the screen-caps most likely have a different Aspect Ratio, than a Video Project, which for HD will be 16:9. Especially with screen-caps, that are pretty low resolution to begin with, I would NOT do any Scaling, and would live with the letterboxing, or pillar boxing, rather than Scale and effectively Crop.
Also, when Scaling in Photoshop, I do not Save_As JPEG, as it introduces compression, but only as either PSD (Photoshop's native format), or PNG.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
