Poor quality of generated document

A Word document that I have generated turns out to be a complete mess. I cannot use it like that. What can we do?

Hi,
I have just gone through your documents.
The pdf has been converted as expected.
The pdf has been created using third party application called 'LaTex with hyperref package'.

  • 'ken burns' poor quality interlacing jagged

This post is to document issues with 'Ken Burns' rendering in Final Cut Express 4 and some workarounds and possible bugs in software I found.
    Similar posts about this issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/5207261#5207261
When I import images into final cut express and  apply keyfram effects with panning and zooming a.ka. the 'Ken Burns Effect' I find that image quality is very poor. This occurs in most BUT NOT ALL images in viewer and canvas windows as well as rendered footage.  The video issues are severe interlacing artifacts (horizontal blurry lines) as well as motion jitter along edges.
Many other users on the web suggested the following, which did not work for me:
-Avoid using JPEG files because their compression introduces artifacts which causes problems for Final Cut
I have found both JPEG and TIFFs have trouble with Ken Burns, although I do have certain TIFFs that seem to work.
-Using different software to render ken burns panning.
This seems silly to me.  I find that the integration of  pan, zoom necessary for fine tuning during editing.  This would be extremely time consuming to separately generate each pan/zoom clip and import. I have heard that some software has high-end smoothing, but I am satisfied with the images that do pan and zoom correctly in Final cut.
-Adjusting Field Dominance in the clip properties to none
this was already set on my clips
    -Adjust render settings.
I saw a 1001 rendering 'recipes' offered up to fix image pan/zoom issues. None worked
    Things I discovered
Ken burns effect looked great when the image was in a transition, but bad when it was not.  For example: Imagine a 5 second cross dissolve between regular video and ken burns motion image.  When image becomes clearly visible in the latter 2.5 seconds of the transition it looks excellent while panning/zooming. When the transition finishes there is a sudden change to poor quality in the pan/zoom.
-The render bar on top of the timeline is dark-green for good-looking images, which according to the final cut manual, means 'no render necessary'
-There was nothing special about these render-not-necessary images that I could find in resolution, settings, etc.
-Good looking images were jpegs, gifs, and tiffs
I tried converting other images and reimporting, no luck
-I can make the ken burns look good for all images by playing the movie in the canvas window and setting it 99% zoom.
Any zoom level other than 100% looks good.
-This seems like a bug to me.
Eventually I just used a screen recording application called screenflow to capture my video playing in canvas window at 99% in real time.
    This worked.
Hopefully someone can explain why rendered images never look good and what format works to get the dark green line and avoid rendering all together and these problems.
I don't mind converting file formats beforehand as long as they work well

The render bar on top of the timeline is dark-green for good-looking images, which according to the final cut manual, means 'no render necessary'
This is misleading. It simply means rendering is not necessary for playback. It does NOT mean that the material does not need to be rendered.
100% zoom level is as close to how your video actually looks that a computer monitor can display.
You never said what format you're working in.
You always have to render still images. You're making video, and they're not video.

  • Extreme poor quality in full screen preview and exported movie

I have spend evenings and evenings to create the content of a project.
After dealing with error -108 and extreme poor quality in full screen preview and in exported movies (extreme stuttering) I decided to install my iMac new again.
The error -108 disappeared, but the extreme stuttering still remained in full screen preview and in exported movies.
If I make the preview screen in the iMovie browser as big as possible there is nothing to see of any stuttering.
Now I am getting pretty annoyed and have no clue what to do anymore (how to solve this problem) .....
    Anyone any suggestion ?
The orginal video was recorded with a Panasonic HD camcorder.
I do have a mid 2011 iMac with 16GB ram and 256GB SSD and 1TB HD with a complete clean installation
of OS X Lion and iLife. This configuration should be enough to create a proper movie :-(

    mantralightroom wrote:
why is it this option disabled? do the generate monitor sized previews increase a lot the cache a lot!
Potentially, yes. The standard Preview is 1024 pixels, longest size. Some people (like Omke) have displays 2560 pixels longest side, potentially increasing file size by over 500%.

  • Poor quality text in PDF

I am using Acrobat pro X to produce an online brochure. I started producing the brochure in Corel draw using A4 paper size in landscape mode. When I created the PDF by the print command the general quality was very poor, both graphics and text. I experimented with various settings increasing the quality settings for images but it didn't seem to have any significant effect. I then tried placing some of the elements in a Word document and creating a PDF from this document, and again I found that the results were unsatisfactory, a bit better than from Corel but not very good. I have converted many Word documents to PDF in the past without problems. I started a new Word document and this time copied a template for a landscape brochure from Microsoft. This was already populated with some Text-and-Graphics. When I created a PDF from this it was quite good. It was not clear to me what the difference between my basic word document and this new one was. I went through the documents’ settings with a fine tooth comb and the only one I could find was different was the paper size and orientation. I then copied some of my graphics and text to the word brochure document, and this to converted nicely to PDF. I took a note of what appeared to be a somewhat unusual paper size and copied this to the Corel document. When I created a PDF it was now significantly better all the paper size was wrong. I went back from scratch with both the word document and the Corel draw document (those which produce bad PDF files) and carefully made sure that the paper size and orientation in the document matched the PDF settings. But the result was still poor in this case. It is not clear to me what is causing the problem although it does seem to be mainly text, the graphics are often okay. The text however is extremely patchy looking and very poor quality.
In the Acrobat settings I started with "high quality print" default setting and edited this. When I selected the fonts section there were no fonts selected for embedding. This surprised me as I would have thought high-quality print would automatically embedded all fonts. I selected the fonts in my document and embedded them and saved the settings, but when I went out of this dialogue box and straight back in it showed up with no embedded fonts. What's happening here? Is it for getting about my font selection? Or does this dialogue box when you re-enter it not reflect the current settings? Furthermore when I completed my modifications to the "high-quality print" default settings it asked me to save them as a new job options file which I did, but when I go to print a second time it never gives me the option of selecting these saved settings.
I have tried almost every permutation and combination of settings page sizes et cetera and I now tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to simply get a reasonable quality PDF file. Any assistance on these matters would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Michael
I am using Corel V 13 and Windows 7. The issue is not confined to Corel as I am also getting poor results often with Word as described. I also need to know about the font embedding as described above. Is it the case that if the fonts are  embedded this
guarantees they fonts display sharply in the PDF? i.e. do the scatty fonts in the PDF prove I am not getting embedded fonts?
Corel does have a printer driver compatibility setting where you can set the target printer, but the PDF virtual printer is not available in the list.
    Thanks

  • Saving a Project In Pages, Images Poor Quality in PDF

I have just purchased IWork 09, i am new to pages and so far find the software very handy and easy to use to make very attractive documents.
    i have one dilemma though.
i save a (e.g.) poster in pages, but when i go to open it in PDF Preview, the images that i have inputted into the document are distorted or of a poor quality, when i open them in pages they are fine?.... also when i go 2 open the saved document in Adobe Reader 9, it wont open? i tried taking frames and shadows etc out just in case they are not supported, like in MS Word but still no luck. i have to send flyers for advertizment via e-mail to clients who are more than likely using Windows Xp or Vista.
if some one could help with
    1. Getting my images to stay good quality
    2. opening it in adobe 9
it would be very much appreciated

You can not see which programs have been involved in each compression, but as far as I know, at least some programs store information about both themselves (last edited by) and the compression level in the exif/iptc data.
The right way to work is to get as much data as possible off the colour capture in high bit and do the exposure correction getting into a normalised colour space either still in high bit or in scaled down 8 bit to save space.
The pixels should be left alone from this phase and out. It is not necessary to change a single source pixel either in matching to the display, the printer or the press. All of this is done on the fly in memory and not be changing the pixels in the disk-based image document.
As interchange file format for corrected colour captures stored in the normalised colour space, either use a linearised RGB space or high-bit CIELab. The file format should be lossless TIFF and not lossy JPEG (the way JPEG works internally is lossy by definition).
Live Picture and Apple Aperture are alike in the way they work. Rather than taking the pixels into memory for correction, which is they way Photoshop worked, they construct a colour managed proxy for manipulation and then provide for a rendering that is non-destructive.
Live Picture required ColorSync 2 and Apple Aperture is unable to work without colour management for the same set of reasons. Apple Pages is unable to work without colour management for the same set of reasons, although there are additional reasons for Apple Pages.
    Just my ten cents,
    /hh

  • L5780: first page or 2 print fine then poor quality print

The first few pages of print will be fine but then towards the end of the 3rd page there are horizontal streaks, the next page will be full of them getting worse as the page progresses.  I can wait a while (1/2 hour or so) get a good page but then back to the  horizontal streaks.
I replaced my print heads in August last year and had some issues with the black and yellow one which HP replaced (both of them went from green status to yellow status fairly quickly).  The new print head solved the issue for a while but now for months I've been dealing with this problem.
I have cleaned, aligned and calibrated and now after a 2nd cleaning the yellow print is a very poor quality.  I have HP, print heads, HP ink and HP paper.  I have the proper paper settings.  From what I have read it appears that it could be the black and yellow print head again, but that just seems odd that a 3rd one would go bad in this short time (the first ones I replace in August did not indicate they were bad and were still in a yellow status) .  I don't do a great deal of printing and this August was the first time I've replaced the print heads since I got the printer about 4 years ago.
I print most of my items from Micro Soft Word or Micro Soft Digital Image Suite 2006 Editor.

    See my answers below:
    a) The size of the pages of PDF which you are printing. LETTER
    b) Does all pages of the PDF are of same size? YES
    c) What is the page size set in the Printer and what is the actual size of the paper which you have put in the tray? LETTER
    d) Does this problem also happens on the virtual printer which you might have on your system (Try either Microsoft MPS Document writer or Adobe PDF Printer) No VIRTUAL PRINTERS
Thank you for attempting to help me with this... we have tried everything and haven't been able to resolve the problem.

Is anyone having a problem with the HP Officejet 6600 having very poor quality photo prints?

    Hi HereInJersey,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that printed photos from your  Officejet 6600 don't have the quality that you expect.
I have included the "Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality Problems" troubleshooting document.  It has detailed steps to take to improve the quality of your print jobs.

  • Poor quality Export for HD with moving objects

When I export from iMovie6 any moving image is very poor quality. I am using a Sony HDR-HC1 and trying to export at the highest possible settings.
When the image is still the quality is very good, but if anything moves the image goes "wobbly" and "jigsaw" like. Panning shots are hopeless and anyone walking in the shot goes wobbly.
The original capture image seems fine, so I assume it is an exporting problem. Exporting at lower setting, ie for an iPod, the image is great.
I have tried all different setting, some are better than others.
    Can anyone help?

Your description of the problem - a 'comb' effect - sounds as if the "fields" which make up the resultant picture have been put together in reverse.
(..You don't normally see 'interlaced' video in iMovie's playback window - you normally see just a single field of the two, to make the picture clearer and simpler to display..)
[..A video picture's generally made up of two "fields" which each comprise half the number of lines down the screen: one field comprises the odd-numbered lines, and the other the even-numbered ones. Your exported video should be encoded with the lower (2nd) field first ..as described in this Apple document ..and the problem's mentioned here as well..]
However ..you said in your first post that "..I am using a Sony HDR-HC1 and trying to export at the highest possible settings.."
This is an HDV camcorder, and you didn't say if the original footage which you shot was HDV or normal DV. (HDV is recorded differently from normal DV, as it's recorded in a more compressed format, and it has to be automatically 'unscrambled' by Apple's Intermediate Codec while you're importing it into iMovie HD.)
It seems as if somewhere along the chain of importing>editing>exporting, the fields are being reversed, so that you get this jumpiness on replay when QuickTime tries to deliver a "highest quality" interleaved replay of both fields:
Ah ..sudden thought: you mentioned that you exported thro' iDVD: "..I have used iDVD by dropping it into a DVD theme and it seems to work ok, although the playback is a little jumpy, not quite as good I would have expected.."
You may have left the iDVD settings at their default 'NTSC' instead of switching them to PAL.
Check your iDVD Preferences ..that may be the problem.

  • Office Web Application PDF rendering poor quality

    Hi
We have a customer using SharePoint 2013 and Office Web Application to provide PDF and WORD documents to partners. Now we ran into the problem, that all PDF are rendered in such a poor quality, that it is hard to read the PDF document, because it
is so blured. DOCX documents are also compressed, but readable. If the user downloads the PDF file, the Quality of the PDF is good.
That is how it looks in Office web application:
This is the same file downloaded and opened with the pdf client:
Is there any solution for this problem? Does Microsoft planned any update on this?
    Thanks

    in2brain

    Hi Michael,
Are you using a monitor with high resolution?
Per the following information, if you are using a monitor with high resolution, the pdf rendered by OWA from browser will look blurry, as a workaround you can open PDF file using PDF client software currently.
"The Word Viewer in the WACs converts documents (including PDFs) to PNG images at 96 DPI which is likely why the users are seeing blurry text if they are viewing documents on a high DPI device/monitor (>200 DPI)."

  • Refund not allowed for poor quality

I have learned that even though my Skype number does not work correctly and there is poor quality on the line, it can never be refunded, and apparently Skype don't guarantee that it will even work properly according to customer support.
After three hours, over a number of 'chats', and loads of conflicting info the best they can do is troubleshooting tips. I would love to sell people broken stuff and tell them that it don't guarantee it will work... lol
They really are ruthless and not very customer orientated at Skype. Polls have shown they are way behind others in terms of call quality etc. so I do advise you to take your money elsewhere. Skype know they have bad quality, so it's best not to promise something that works. Clever.... but for how long?

  • Poor quality after days of rendering (AE CS5)

I bought an AE project file (VideoHive.net) and the first time I tied to use it things worked fine, although it took most of a day (9 hours) to render a 2 minute project. Then I made some changes (substituting pictures in the sample) and attempted to export it again. At high quality 1080 AVI, it took 52 hours and the result was a jittery poor quality mess. So then I rendered the project again at 720 as an MP4 and it only took 37 hours, but this time it was even worse and even more unusable.Same machien, same memory assignment, same project file.
I don't know if I was supposed to render in RAM first (I may hve done that before the first rander just to see what it looked like) or what combination of settings I should be using or if I should be sending it directly to Premiere (although I can't seem to make that work).  I think my first attempt was an MOV which I imported into Pr with no problem and it only took 9 hours to render. Same machine, same project.  This should be an adequate machine (6 core, 16 GB) with 80% memory assigned to CS5. I've spent hours on Lynda.com watching all the AE courses but they don't seem to include the minor details and steps. They assume the viewer can figure that out, I guess.
What is the correct process to follow (RAM first?), what render file should I be using and how long should it take for a (less than) 2 minute finished AE project?

    TimeRemapper,
    Here's the project: http://videohive.net/item/photo-album/94595
I have it running on 5 of the 6 processors using 13 GB of the RAM.
Rendering to local SATA drive, same as the source files.
I have no problem with the 9 hours, but I do have a problem with 3 days and
a jumpy mess as the result.
The images I switched out are mostly smaller than the ones in the sampler
and about the same as the scanned pictures I used in my trial run.
Should I try to export to my Premiere project or export to a file to bring
back into Pr? (added to video interview). If I export it, it needs to be 720
for standard DVD - What is the best format and settings for that? AVI? MOV?
MP4? Obviously what I selected was outside of what the machine could
    adequately generate.

  • Poor quality images exporting from InDesign to PDF

We are having an issue with poor quality images exporting to PDF from Indesign (CS6). It makes zero difference whether the images are Ai images or PDF. They look perfect in Ai, perfect in the InDesign document, but appalling in the exported PDF. If the PDF document is printed, they print fine, but as a web based pdf document it is not publishable. We must use compression on export to keep the file size small enough for web/email use, but even with compression turned off on export there is no improvement in the PDF quality with a document ten times the size.
    Any help would be appreciated?

I appear to have answered my own question, but will place it here to hopefully help others.
On comparing another InDesign document that appeared to export to PDF ok, we noticed that the type of frame makes a huge difference to image output quality. In the suspect document the frames with the images in them were " [Basic Graphics Frame]+ ". When I changed the frame (or made a new frame) to " [None] "; not only were the images a lot clearer in the InDesign document but they exported to PDF perfectly. Something so simple!!!!

  • Why does my brand new HP Officejet 5740 have extremely poor quality scan results?

My brand new HP Officejet 5740 has extremely poor quality scan results!
Excessive and unacceptable amounts of white specs appear in the resulting  jpegs, of what are  perfectly clean, orignal, dark,  documents, pages and  photos,  when placed into the scanner.  Why is this happening???
Has anyone else experienced this problem?  If so, how did you resolve it?

    Hi @mpstone1,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are not happy with the scan quality on your new HP Officejet 5740, when you scan something you are getting alot of white specs.
I would like you to first perform a Hard Reset on the OJ 5740:
    1. Unplug all cables and memory cards from the printer. Unplug the power cord, directly from the back of the printer while the printer is still turned on.
    2. Unplug the other end of the cord from the power source.
    3. If there is a power module on the power cord, disconnect one end and reconnect it.
    4. After 60 seconds, plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector or battery backup as they can cause the printer to lose basic functionality over time).
    5. Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.
    6. The printer should automatically power back up. If it doesn't, turn it on with the power button.
    7. Try making a photocopy (if your printer is an all-in-on printer) before connecting any other cables to the printer.
    8. Connect any other needed cables to the printer.
Please continue here: Vertical Bands, Lines, or Streaks in Copies, Faxes, or Scans, complete the steps listed, make sure the scanner lid is fully down when powering on, do not lift the lid until the printer is fully initialzied.
If after the troubleshooting has been done the copy quality has not improved, contact our technical support at 800-474-6836 as it may be the hardware and you would still be in warranty.
