Poor video quality of Itunes Videos

All of the videos purchased on Itunes look great...on my Ipod. When i try and view them on my 24" IMAC they look grainy and disgusting.
Yes, I realize this is because the video is made to look good ont he Ipod, not the computer. My concern, however, is what about Apple TV? I am considering buying one, but if the Videos look that crappy on my 24" IMAC, how are they going to look on my 42" TV? It's not as if there is an option in Itunes to download it for Ipod or TV. This means that Apple TV is going to grab the same file I view on my Ipod to show me on my TV.
What does it do to make it look better? It has to do something because if it looks on my TV the way it does on my IMAC, no one is going to buy one.

Hi Macs,
I would still check this out and one answer might be that due to the large amount of space a video takes on a computer etc. the quality of a downloaded video is not the same as one on a DVD from the studio. Similiar to a photo with the number of megapixels the size of the photo in terms of KB or MB grows with quality. This is why .mac mail shrinks a photo file to email it. To have a downloadable video the quality of a movie DVD today would take 8 hours to down load and about half of the space on that 80GB IPod. How good is your 42" TV? Also make sure you have good cables made for digital and the same for your surge protector? Keep your ITV receipt. Many a glicth was found in an Apple product release and you may have to have the machine updated, exchanged or blessed. Apple will cover it. A hassle to mail in or what ever but they do cover with RECEIPT. Try kicking your TV if noting else works. This must help, people have been doing since the TV came out. (LOL) Bye Macs!

  • Poor Sound Quality with iTunes 8

I just installed iTunes 8, and all of the songs in my Library play with poor sound quality regardless of the view I have open. The sound is really muffled, but the voices and higher frequencies sound tinny and shaky. I tried playing with the Equalizer and Sound Enhancer settings, but was not able to fix the problem.
What can I do to get the iTunes 7 sound back?

I, too, am experiencing a significant decline in the sound quality of recordings in my collection. The recordings sound very muffled on the low, bass end of the sound spectrum, and the treble is significantly diminished. This decline in sound quality occurred immediately after I upgraded to iTunes 8. The sound quality in iTunes 7 was fine, and overall better.
It appears that my iTunes 8 attempts to improve the playback sound quality of songs with 128 kbps bit rates, as these songs in my collection do seem to actually sound better. However, most of my collection are recordings imported at the higher sound quality standard of 320 kbps from CDs that I purchased, and these recordings all sound poor since I've installed iTunes 8.

  • Poor audio  quality with iTunes 9

    Hi.
This is my first posting and I am hoping members of the iTunes development team look in here.
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and I noticed a marked improvement in sound quality using iTunes 8 . Please note I am playing AIFF files through the digi out of my Macbook into a high quality Dac, amp and speaker separates system, in fact the sound was as good as any cd transport I have ever used. I then "upgraded" to iTunes 9 and noticed a deterioration in audio quality, the bass has become woolly and indistinct and small details in songs are harder to hear resulting in a un-involving sound.
I know I am not imagining this as I have done repeated tests using the same file played back via iTunes9, Songbird and Cog and iTunes is clearly the inferior of the three and the poor quality of 9 is being discussed on many hifi forums.
So come on iTunes team either sort out the audio output of 9 or give us audiophiles an easy way to get rid of 9 and go back to 8 without losing our libraries.
ps. love all the bells and whistles but sound quality is paramount.
    Cheers
    Andy.

I had exactly the same problem on my new, beefed-up laptop and couldn't figure out how an "upgrade" could ruin my music (which I take pretty seriously). I am embarrassed to say what actually fixed the problem. I started by turning off the EQ and it improved somewhat. I kept searching the web without luck until I noticed something by accident. My system volume was low and the iTunes volume was peaked at max. I turned the iTunes volume to 40% and turned up the computer volume to compensate and voila! The bass distortion and indistinct vocal range was immediately fixed. I turned the EQ back on and was able to use it however I liked. I guess it is like turning up the volume on a radio to max. You get sound, but it gets distorted in the upper range. Hope that helps!

  • How do i get the best video quality in itunes

Ive never had this problem before but some HD movies, from the iTunes store, started looking a bit grainy or white on iTunes.  IS this likely to be an issue with my pc or with the content?

    Jose:
You might get more responses if you post your question in the G4 section. That relates to hardware, etc., and there may be more users there with answers.f

  • Changing video quality of a video sets quality to 240p and cannot continue playing video

When I am watching a video, in example this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jKylhJtPmI and trying to change the quality to 720p (from 480p) the video stops and the quality is set to 240p.
I cannot continue the video in any way except for refreshing the page.
I am using the HTML5 version of youtube.
The problem occurs after restarting with addons disabled.
At chrome, changing the quality works as expected.

  • Improve video quality and flip video

    hello-
Here is my issue - I am taking video from an iphone app and I need to put it into another software package - the video is not high enough quality for the analysis I need to do and when it goes in the software it is turned 90 degrees.
    questions
    1) can I use compressor to sharpen the video and decrease the blur? The clips are short about 3-5sec but they are sports clips with quick action hence my blur.
    2) If yes to question 1 - any suggestions on settings?
    3) Any suggestions on how to get the video turned 90 degrees and not decrease quality?
    Thank you

You are mistaking marketing hype for reality. There are no miracles in video, only hacks that lead inexorably to lowered expectations.
Your following post is a quote from the marketing hype for Apple's particular flavor of a standard creative analysis tool, "optical flow." The video must be good before it can be improved. Your video can be run through this tool, give it a try and let us know what happens.
You should look up the definitions of the terms is the product description that you do not understand clearly. Optical flow is available in Motion, too.

  • When I am watching video podcasts in iTunes video is very slow to pause ...

I have some interesting video from iTunesU on my iMac iTunes server
and sync them to the iPad where the video is mobile and wonderful,
    but ...
When playing, I tap and tap on the screen sometimes and the video controls
will not show up, like if I want to adjust the volume or scrub to another
    location, rewind, etc.
Is there a secret to hitting the right spot, or does everyone have this problem?
Is this just a tweaking problem with interrupts inside the iPad OS or is
something wrong? Is there a way to get the controls to stay on screen all
the time so this does not happen?

Does no one else have this problem.
If I want to turn the volume up or down, or pause the video for a moment,
I am furiously tapping on the screen to get the iPad's attention, and it can
take a long time for that thing to hear me and pop up the control in the
    video.
    Is it just me?

  • Bad video quality from iPhone videos on PC?

    Hello all,
I have been experiencing a fairly annoying problem.  I have a small library of videos taken on my iPhone 4S (iOS 5) which have been transferred to my PC (Windows 7).  I realize that these are .MOV files and Windows Media Player will not play them, but even the most up-to-date version of quicktime plays these videos very choppy.  What gives?  Is there another media player I can use to view these, or do I have to convert all of them?

After some googling Ive read that this is an issue others are having since they upgraded to IOS6, apparently videos played fine in 5.
Is there a way to undo the IOS6 update and restore the phone back to IOS5?

  • Poor sound quality of iTunes downloads

The huge fault with songs downloaded in AAC format from iTunes is the "buzz" or "interference" that surrounds the clean sounds of a piano or a voice, especially when the original passage is loud. I don't think there is a work-around for this.
To demonstrate: Listen to the iTunes sample of Vienna Teng's recording of "Gravity" on the album "Waking Hour". Compare this to the mp3 version of the same tune on Vienna teng's own site http://audio.viennateng.com/waking/viennateng-gravity.mp3. The latter is infinitely superior.
If you buy the album from iTunes, the quality is just as dismal as the sample - a complete waste of money as the "buzz" ruins all the tracks.
As an avid Mac fan I find this very disappointing. Does anybody have any suggestions or should we just look for good quality recordings from sources other than iTunes. If so where?
Also how can we voice this disappointment to the iTunes managers? The "Report a Problem" link in "Purchase History" does not work.

    Hi Martin,

  • Mirrorring video quality

I have Apple TV 3 on cat 6 fast network. If I try to mirror  video I stream from the web (Amazon prime or Showtime Go for example ) the video quality is so poor one cannot recognize the imagery. Airplay from iPad such as HBOGO on the same network and hook up (or Netflics via the Apple TV)  are perfect. The problem is clearly isolated to mirroring. Every OS and all software is up to date. The air is i7 2.9 with 8 gig Ram
Even the desktop itself via streaming is pretty pathetic.
    Any advice?
    Thank you

FLV = Flash and is not accessible on an ios device.
Is the mentioned video off a website? Have you checked the website on the computer to verify quality?
Video quality on downloaded video is dependent on the source, are you referring to iTunes content or other videos you have simply downloaded.

Q4: And video conversion tips from you guys.

I guess no one from Apple reads these things? I'd like to know the same thing. I used DVD Fab and it saved it 1.2GB and it looks great on iTunes but is choppy on the iPhone 3GS. Can we have answers to the questions? Some time this year?

  • What should I expect in quality? Make video better? optimize?

    Hello
I'm using iChat 3.1 for the first time. I have tried using both a AIM account and .mac account. The software works fine for me. My question is
    1) what should I expect in terms of video quality? Is there something out there I can compare it to? I must say it is not the resolution I was expecting. I guess mine looks good as a 3" x 3" screen but strtching it to 12 x 12 is pretty bad. Is this what it's supposed to look like? is there a way to optimize it? I read somewhere that the bad video was a function of AIM? and if you go through this "other way" it will be better. (can't find that info I read!)
2)Alternatively, could I theoretically network my computer and my mom's, and then have a better video session using another video access. (don't know which one or how)
    3) I have also tried using my wireless access and the video is much worse and the audio is delayed, so I switched back to ethernet. Am I doing something wrong?
At this point I would only be videoing with this one other computer.
    thanks for any help

    Hello Gina,
Welcome to apple discussions. The video quality on ichatav depends on many factors:
    1. Bandwidth limitations of your ISP
    2. CPU speed (the faster the better)
    3. The size of the actual chat window (the bigger, the lower the quality) Full screen ichatav can be marginal at best.
    4. Lighting
    5. Unusually fast motion or panning will effect your video quality
    6. Camera quality ... Generally Mini DV cameras capture great quality. In fact they often get significantly better picture quality than most web cams. Firewire cameras are generally far better than most usb devices.
    7. iChat video pref. settings will effect video quality (try setting video preferences to "None").
    8. The connection doctor is a useful tool w/in ichatav. However having it constantly open during a video chat can actually slow the application down a bit and hence may also effect video quality. Check it quickly and then close it after you see all is working as expected. Do not leave it constantly open during a video chat or while attempting to start a video chat.
    9. Having several applications open while video chatting can also effect the quality of your video chat/s.
    10. Hosting a 3 way video conference will run significantly slower and at lower frame rate than video chatting with just one other party at a time.
And according to Ian Bickerstaff, the following also effects quality:
    LIGHTS:
In system preferences ( from the Blue Apple top left of your screen there )
    System preferences > Personal > Desktop&Screensaver > Desktop > Solid Colours.
Select the pure white option ( Its invisible - Just click to the right of the last colour option )
That increases the light thrown onto your face. It also prevents any odd discolouration that can come with using darker back grounds.
Use a local Spot light to light just you in a larger room. Very atmospheric
Use the video preview before you start a video chat to make sure that your image is "up to scratch" Play around with the amount of light and where it is positioned.
    SOUND:
Is the volume set correctly? Setting it at 75% seems to be the best option.
    CAMERA:
If you wear glasses try to get the camera in a position where by the screen does not block out your eyes.
Look at the camera - It sort of implies "making eye contact" - Instead of looking at the screen. Placing the video " window " as near as you can to the camera helps ( thanks Sillydog )
If its a family chat - Place the camera so that all people can be seen and move the microphone ( if you have one ) so all people can be heard.
    ACTION: Not just yet....
Are you sitting comfortably? Is it going to be a long chat? Do you have a drink to hand? Do you know what you want to say?
If there is a phone in the room - Do you want to turn it off to avoid interruption?

  • Can't Change YouTube Video Quality

Ever since my upgrade to Safari 5.1.2 I can no longer adjust the video quality settingson YouTube. Additionally, the load portion of the progress bar (the gray part) doesn't appear.
I'm not sure if this is becuse of a change to YouTubes look, but it works fine in Google's Chrome browser. I see the gray load progress bar and when I click on the video quality setting, the video pauses as it always used to and then begins where it left off in a better quality.
On Safari I just see a spinning icon next to the video quality number and then evnetually the number changes, but I don't think the quality gets any better.
I've made sure the version of Flash Player is at the latest too.
And on the topic of flash video... both YouTube and Hulu video freeze quite often now when in full screen but the audio keeps playing through. So, lots of problems trying to watch flash video recently.
EDIT: The same problems in Safari are in Firefox as well. So maybe this isn't a Safari specific related issue.

Try uninstalling the current Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
If that doesn't help, try deleting Flash cookies > Flush.app – Flash Cookie Removal Tool For OS X | MacHacks.TV
Try emptying the Safari cache more often. Either from the Safari menu bar, Safari > Empty Cache or Command + Option + E on your keyboard.
