Pop up problems

On my macbook air I have problems with pop ups. Whenever I click on an app or anything on a website using safari, random windows open. I even went to the security settings and turned on "block all pop-ups" but it still won't work. It does the same thing no matter what I do. Could someone please help?

You may have installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
/Library/Application Support/VSearch
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
/System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

  • Crazy POP Account problem receiving emails

I am on Mail 2.08, and my ISP is Media Temple (shared server setup).
I have one account will not download email! It has exactly the same settings as others that work.
I can Get Info and Mail shows that my test message exists on the server. I can go on Squirrelmail and see the mail is there. I can set up the account in Entourage and download the email on the server no problem. I can use this account in Mail to send the test emails (smtp works). I run Connection Doctor and it logs in and says account is fine. There are no errors showing up in any attempts to download the mail, just a spinning wheel and then no mail in the inbox!!
I erased and set up the account on Media Temple's servers. That did not work. I have erased and set up the account within Mail multiple times. I threw out the plist and re-entered the account in Mail and that did not work. I wish I could download a new version of Mail so I can delete this one but don't know how to find that online.
I don't think there is any kind of cache or anything to clear with Mail.
I should note that on my first setup of this account, I set it up as IMAP. My primary email account is IMAP and works great, but when I was trying to make this new account work, Mail.app goes crazy with where it puts the folders for Sent, etc and what is mapped to what. So I then deleted it as IMAP and made new one as POP. I cannot find any evidence of a remainder of this work but wanted to note it here.
Media Temple tech support say they have many Mail.app users calling in with very mysterious problems like this one, that they cannot replicate and often like this where there are other accounts with the exact settings that work while others do not. Or that they suddenly stop working and the users cannot figure out why. I even tried to set up a server-based alias for this account on Media Temple to reroute the email to a new account that I can download on Mail.app but it would still not download them!!
    Help!!!
Thanks in advance for any advice, this has been hard to figure

Well, I don’t know why it doesn’t work as POP, but if what you really want is to set up this account as IMAP, it seems to me that what you should do is fix and/or understand that instead...
Anyway, assuming the account is actually supposed to work using POP as well and that it has been configured correctly, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.

  • 'Quick Fix' for HP Officejet Pro L7580 Printer & 88XL Yellow Cartridge Popping out problem!

After reading other forum comments from people having the same problem with the yellow cartridge popping-out, combined with others who have realised that HP have no interest in compensating anyone for this rediculous example of, at best, 'bad design', or at worst 'blatent planned obsolescence', I have created a solution that may add another 1, 2 or more years of life to the HP Officejet Pro L7580 Printer.
This is not the elegant technical solution I was hoping for.  However, in hindsight, it may prove to be a more reliable solution than replacing the faulty part that is actually causing the problem.  So, here it is the solution ........
I found a wooden triangular door stop that I cut to size that fitted exactly in the space between the plastic door and the offending yellow cartridge. To hold it in place, I wrapped the doorstop with 2" cellotape, then I stuck the door stop to the inside of the plastic door with double sided cellotape (double sided stick-on foam would also work well). With the doorstop in the correct place, the plastic door closed perfectly and was snug enough to apply sufficent pressure to the offending yellow cartridge, and hence stopping it from popping out again.  To make sure the plastic door does not 'fly open' with the pressure of the yellow cartridge (when it wants to pop out!), I applied another piece of 2" cellotape around the outside of the door, holding it to the body of the photocopier.
This exercise only took 10-15 mins to do.  I feel this is a much better option than spending another $300+ on a new All-in-One  system, as well as being a good environmental solution.  If this is DELIBERATE 'planned obsolescence', companies like HP need to be more accountable for, at best, 'sloppy design'.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

  • URL is not valid and cannot be loaded pop-up problem has started again and I can't find any reference in FF Help. Do I have to scroll thru 23,000 support questions asked?

This problem HAS happened before, maybe 1.5 yrs ago. While on a valid page a pop-up saying URL is invalid and can not be loaded appears. Frequency starts increasing in time. Then I can not load any of my bookmarked pages without re-starting my laptop. Has been getting worse since last FF update.

well after 4 days and no support help, I said screw it. Good bye FireFox, your excellent customer service on this issue drove me to install Google Chrome. Just like Opera's piss poor customer support drove me to FireFox, now Firefox is driving me elsewhere.
This issue is NOT AN ADD ON issue, nor THEME ISSUE, its a FIREFOX ISSUE, but their lack of a fix is inadequate for me. I hate the damn annoying pop up every time I open firefox so I will dump firefox and move on after 5 yrs.

  • Safari for Macbook Pop-Up Problems

I have a Macbook Pro that I got less than a year ago, and I recently started having Safari problems. Whenever I am using safari, I get random pop-ups for things like promotional websites that say they're giving away free stuff, Mackeeper, and other websites I have never heard of much less been onto. Also, I seem to have a random shopping helper enabled as well. Whenever I am viewing a product on a website, there is a little bar underneath where the pictures of the items are, and they have pictures of similar items in the boxes. When I click on it, it takes me to an Apple Support Desk that offers free PC Diagnosis. Their number is 855-214-9613, but I do not at all believe that it is a real Apple service. Another shopping helper that has shown up is a green bar in the bottom right corner that has a box attached to it that shows products that it thinks I will like based on my search. There's a button with 3 dots on it at the top right of the box, and it has a disable button where you can disable it for different time periods up to a day. I do that every time it shows up, and it says "[pop-up name] has been disabled" but then the next time I go to search something, it is there again. When I do a Google search on Safari, there is always a lis of about 6 items that are purely irrelevant. There's a hello section of 3 of them that are "Ads related to [search]," and another 3 that are typically from whoisbest.com, grocery saving.com, and sale stores.com. I'd like these to be gone too because it is very annoying to have those block the actual search results that I want. I've already done a Hardware Test and reset Safari several times. I updated Safari to 7.0.4 already, but nothing fixes it. I already have pop-up blocker enabled and it doesn't stop the problem.

  • Transactional iView - Pop Up Problem

    Hi Experts,
I am facing a problem in one of the transactional iView in Portal. The iView runs a workflow. When i click on one of the line items (from the list of lineitems), and execute the workflow, it shows me the details of that line item and a new window pops up which contains a pdf.
The problem is when i close the workflow or go back to the list of line items, this popup window should get closed automatically, which is not happening.
If i execute this from R/3, it works fine.
Any ideas, what can be a solution to this..

    Dear Abhishek,
mind you that although ITS might show you any SAP transaction - it is not 100% guaranteed that it will show you the exact same features you have on the SAP Logon.
Is this a standard SAP transaction or a Custom one ?
What transaction (if standard) are you referring to ?
Please check this ITS FAQ nevertheless

  • Adobe Connect UAC Pop Up Problems - Blocks Clicking

We use Adobe Connect to trouble shoot problems with our end users.
The biggest problem I have is with pop ups from Windows UAC wanting to allow an action. We can't click on those through Adobe Connect like you can with normal remote control software. Also, the popup doesn't even show up. On the controller's end is just a black blank screen. The only reason we know that the Allow/Deny screen is coming up is because we've had users on the phone tell us when it prompts them.
If it was just getting past that screen, that'd be fine. We could warn the user to just click allow on those popups and be done with it. But it doesn't stop there. You can't interact with any window that involve the aforementioned UAC popup protection.
Perfect example: We need to delete something out of the registry. When opening regedit a UAC popup comes up asking if we want to allow. They click yes and you lose control over the mouse while that program is up. If they user minimized regedit, then you regain control. If you restore the window you lose control again.
We don't want to walk users through the registry. It just takes them deleting one wrong key to mess up a bunch of stuff. It's actually already happened once and the end user ended up having to reformat his computer because of it.
Is Connect intentionally designed to work this way?
If not, is this a known issue?
Is there a way around it?
I did a fair share of searching/googling and was unable to find any answers. If this has been answered already, please point me to the right post and I apologize for creating an unnecessary extra thread.

    Jorma Jennings wrote:
OK, to be fair, Connect is not an RDP application, and simply gives remote access to someones computer through the Flash Player. So, that said, UAC is doing exactly what it is supposed to, stopping someone from changing something on your computer. This is a Windows setting issue, not Connect. The UAC controls have prevented more interaction with the shared control function since Windows 7.
I wouldn't call it a known issue, but more of a known limitation of Windows. You can have the users click past the dialog (as you have mentioned) or reduce the setting of the UAC on their computer.
I appreciate you taking time to reply, however you completely ignored the main problem of this post and only focused on one subcategory that honestly isn't that big of an issue.
We have no problem getting by the popups. Asking people to click a button is easy. It's the fact that any screen that receives a UAC popup is completely inaccessible post message. If it has focus, the cursor stops working. After that window loses focus, we have control again. That's an issue.
Also, I'm aware there's a difference between remote desktop applications and using adobe connect as a remote app. But after allowing UAC access, no application should be inaccessible. That completely defeats the point of *allowing* access.
My question still stands and I'm hoping someone has some type of helpful solution or workaround to this problem.
    Thanks

  • Pop up problems in Safari on OS X Yosemite!

My pop up blocker is activated, and Cookies are only allowed on websites I visit frequently, yet i have been having a recurring issue on my Macbook air (11in, 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3) ever since I updated the software on my laptop to OS X Yosemite. The issue is with a website called Offers4u and smartsearch.net, but i cannot find anything up to date about how to get rid of this. I have spoken to a person from apple over the phone who went through possible reasons with me, and i went through all of the links on another page to find the issue but found NOTHING. If i want a troubleshoot i have to pay £25 as I've had the mac since 2012 but as i am a student and on a student loan that already gives me very little it is difficult for me to be able to do that.
If anyone would be of any help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of today, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable word, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes the word is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the word something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same word you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • PSE 9 Fun Edits Pop Art Problem

I'm new to PSE 9 and tried the new Pop Art transformation in the Guided Fun Edits section.  There are two styles.  The first of the two converts the image to a Bitmap.  Next comes the color fill adjustment layer.  The last step is Duplicate Image, which is supposed to duplicate the image with four different pop colors.  Unfortunately, the four pictures are all cyan.  There's no problem with the second version of the Pop Art Fun Edit, which posterizes and adds the neon glow before duplicating with the four pop colors.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the first version is only cyan?  How can I correct this?
    Thanks!

BINGO!  Yes.  It works.  I guess the easiest thing all around is to start anew with a new account?  Sort of like spring cleaning...
    Many thanks!

  • Audio Drop Out/Popping sound Problem

    Hi,
For the last few weeks (since i installed snow leopard i think), i have been getting a lot of audio drop outs, where all of a sudden the sound goes dead and i get a popping sound coming from my speakers.
I am using a pre sonus fire studio project audio interface, with its firmware updated to the latest (the latest update was a beta snow leopard update).
I am running logic pro 8 with snow leopard 10.6.2.
I think i have narrowed the problem down to my presonus fire studio because i totally disconnected it and used logics built in audio soundcard and i didn't get any audio drop out at all.
I was just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences or ideas and suggestions on what is best to do?
thanks in advance for any help.
    Tom

It depends, are you running off battery when this happens? If so then morethan likely it is the audio hardware coming back online. In an effort to conserve power, what Mac OS X does is when you are on battery is that it turns off your audio hardware when it has not been used for a certian amount of time. This popping sound is typical of the audio hardware being powered up.

  • Display the nonsecure content pop-up problem

    Hi All,
ive created a portal component, that contains iframe. Within that iframe content from URL using HTTP is showing, but the portal is using HTTPS so the pop-up is raising, when user is accessing the site, saying that secure and nonsecure content will be displayed.
Anyone knows how to solve the problem?
    Thanks for help!
    Karol

    Hi Karol,
As one of the developers of the URL iViews I can suggest different direction:
    1. Craete new URL iView (intead of the portal component you're using now) with the same URL to the page referenced by the IFrame.
    2. In the property editor of the URL iView switch the fetching mode to server-side.
    3. Remember that you need to set your http proxy to that machine.
Let me know if you need more help with that.
