Pop-up "This iPod requires iTunes 7.6 or later"  :(

I'm using iPod Classic 80GB and I usually update it when new update is available through iTunes.
Yesterday a new update showed up so I clicked "download & install". But then THE PROBLEM occurs.
I'm using iTunes 7.5 and this new version of iPod will only work with iTunes 7.6 or later. So my iTunes cannot detect the iPod.
I download iTunes 7.7 happily, and when I tried to install, it doesn't work! It says this version of iTunes will only work on Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Vista. I thought I had SP2, I don't know why it showed up like that. Or if I don't have SP2 is there any way I can install iTunes 7.7 without having to use SP2???
Or is there anyway I can degrade my iPod classic to my previous version??! I don't even know which version I've upgraded it to because I don't know where to check. I'm not good at these things (T_T) can someone please help me.
And if I degrade, will all my songs be deleted?! I don't have the songs left in my computer....

If you open iTunes and click on Help>>About iTunes
You should see the version: 7.7.1.11 which is the latest version
If not, just to be absolutely clear about what you did, did you download the latest iTunes installer from here:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
It is generally best to save the file rather than run the install via your browser. Click save when prompted - the desktop is a good place to put it.
When you ran the installer did you see the install go through to completion - there should be a progress window telling what it is up to.

If possible... you need to Upgrade to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x  (which will Run iTunes Version 11)
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...

    Other countries...

After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...
    NOTE:
You should also consider more RAM... Get the Maximum you can for your Mac...
It is important to get the Correct and Matching RAM

i had itunes 7 on my comp, which is total rubbish for playback so i have reinstalled itunes 6 and the playback is way better and it doesnt skip every two seconds.
But now when connecting my ipod it says cannot use craigs ipod requires itunes please download.
Anyone know anyway around this cos i really really dunt wanna put itunes 7 back on cos its rubbish.
    really need help here.
    xx

Well, 1) that doesn't help me with my problem so there wasn't much point posting it and 2) by "rubbish" i mean not very good, bad - if you would. Or - Rubbish n - waste matter; rubble; litter; trash. As i explained in the original post, playback was the issue, in particular chronic skipping of playback, which i don't get in itunes 6 and its actually a common problem if you read the boards.

    No.
If you don't want to update to the supported software you can't use the device.

Just got my iPhone 5. I get a message saying it can't be used as it requires iTunes 10.7 or later, when I connect to iTunes. But the current version is 10.63. Please help!

iPhone 5 requires iTunes 10.7 or greater to sync with your computer. You need to update iTunes on your computer. If running OS X, this requires OS X 10.6.8 or greater...Snow Leopard.

  • Itunes will not open and does not recognize ipod, required itunes component is not installed 42404

Itunes was first getting required itunes component not installed.  Click ok and could go to itunes.  Determined itunes was not recognizing Ipod, computer does.  Itunes diagnostics show problem Ipod not found.  Now Itunes is not opening.  Have installed Itunes again with repair option, then uninstall/install option.
Then manually unintalled Itunes, Quicktime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and Application Support.  This is a Windows 7 Toshiba PC.  Has anyone had this happen or have any ideas?

hi bummed! (you do realise that you're stuck with that alias for the forseeable future, don't you?)
B was asking another user if iTunes.exe was appearing and then disappearing in the Task Manager. I am having the oposite issue in that I cannot End Task in the Task Manager on iTunes.exe. What is up?
hmmm. if that's going on, then we'd better check up on these two possibilities first:

  • IPod cannot be used because it requires iTunes 10.0 or later on Tiger

I just purchased a new iPod touch for a friend and she is getting the following error from iTunes when she connects the iPod to her MBP:
"The iPod "iPod" cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.0 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes"
She has an Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro, running Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Quicktime Player 7.6.4.
Is she able to sync the iPod and iTunes on her Mac running Tiger? And if not, is there an alternative that will allow her to sync?
EDIT: Software update says everything is up-to-date.
    Thanks!

She needs to upgrade to Leopard.
    As per Apple's website:
    Mac requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
    iTunes 10 or later
Broadband Internet access is required (fees may apply)

  • This ipod requires version 7.6 or higher - but ir doesn't install!!!

When logging in my ipod nano it says that it will only work with itunes version 7.6 or above, it then directs me to itunes.com to download.
I have downloaded the most recent itunes (version 7.7)but when i plug the ipod in it comes up with the same message! How can I resolve this?!

  • After upgrading to itunes 10.5, and connecting ipad 2, message appears " IPAD cannot be used it requires itunes 10.5 or later. Go to itunes store and download the latest version." I am windows xp user.

After upgrading to Itunes 10.5 and connecting the IPAD. I get a following message. How do I resolve this issue. There is no other way to download itunes to ipad other than the itunes on your computer or laptop. I am a windows xp user.

    Dear Mr. Sawyer,
To my surprise, the version is shown as 10.0.1.22. I will uninstall itunes and try loading the same again. After uninstalling do we need to delete any registry entries for Windows XP.
Thanks for your response and concern.

  • How to copy from iPod to iTunes without having old iTunes version?

I have a first generation iPod nano. The songs on this were loaded from an old windows based desktop which has long since passed on. I want to copy the songs from this iPod into itunes on a brand new apple MacBook. Can I do this? All the forums I seem to refer to require iTunes working on the old computer, which I do not have.

check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • Cannot sync my ipod to itunes on new computer - not enough privilege

I purchased brand new HP desktop (model M8517C) has Intel quad core processor @ 2.4ghz with 5 gb RAM. Tried to sync ipod to this new computer and worked partly for the first time and since it is not working. During the part syncing it deleted all previous data and now does not sync atall.
Error "The iPod "my name - xxx" cannot by synced. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
The current computer has only one log in account and so it does have administrator privileges and all privileges. I tried everything that I could think of wasting several hrs but it will not sync.
I have obviously installed the latest version of the iTunes software. The ipod is 60 GB model from few yrs ago and I dont have any warranty.
    Will appreciate any help.

Are you using the latest downloaded version of iTunes from Apple.com, instead of a version that came on disc with the iPod? According to this article, Windows Vista 64-bit required iTunes 7.6 or later
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1426
Also, make sure you got the version of iTunes 8 for Windows Vista 64-bit

  • "Video was not copied  because it cannot be played on this Ipod"...help!!

I recently tried syncing a video to my Ipod touch 2nd gen and it displays the message "video was not copied because it cannot be played on this Ipod" in Itunes. I have looked everywhere for an answer and nobody seems to have the same problem. I've tried restoring my Ipod and stuff, nothing seems to work. Can someone help?

Since upgrading to ios4 I have been having problems with my itouch. Now some pod casts will not download. Some, like BBC Radio 4 Friday Night Comedy, I have been downloading and playing for months without any problem. I now get the message "cannot be played on this ipod". I have not tried downloading through itunes but this doesn't really help me as I like to download podcasts at coffeshops etc as I want to listen to them. I feel that there are serious problems with ios4 that Apple is not addressing. Has anyone come up with a fix as I see others having similar trouble? I have already tried resting the itouch but all I accomplished was losing a lot of data from some of my apps.
