POP3 accounts and sent mail

Bit of a strange one here, so please bear with me ...
I am currently working with a guy who has two machines:
1 - G4 PowerBook running on OS X 10.3.9, using Mail 1.3.11
2 - G5 MacBook Pro running on OS X 10.5.2, using Mail 3.2
The G4 is his old machine which he used for everything, then got the G5 and moved everything on to there. Now I'm here, I use the G5 and he goes back to the G4.
The issue we're having is that he has the same email accounts set up on both machines, using POP3. Both have, as far as I can see, the same settings. Everything works fine on the G5, however all of the sent messages on the G4 (even older ones before the G5 came along) will not show and have the message:
+"The message from xxx@xxx <xxx@xxx> concerning "Subject" has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."+
Obviously the xxx is to hide his details.
Any idea why this is and how we can rectify it? His account is online as he receives and sends email through it.
Thoughts?

FYI... G5 was an IBM chip, no Laptops had them, if it is an MBP, it has Intel chips in it!
My best guess is that at one time, the G4 was set to leave the mail on the server, but since, it has been downloaded or removed by the other same account on the MBP.

  • Mail deleted account lost inbox and sent mail

I was editing an account with on IT(not a MAC user) person yesterday to check my work mail from a diferent server. In the process my old work account got deleted so I lost all of my incoming and sent mail from the account that was deleted.
After that happened I started reading info on mail accounts and it says that will happen.
The question is is there any way to recover those email? I purchased Prosoft data recovery II today and have been looking thru recovered files but can not find what I am looking for.

Since you’ve already read other threads on this subject, I’ll spare you the details.
If the messages are not on the server, and you don’t have a backup, your only option in the case of Mail 2.x is to try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 1.x). Of these, the only one I know for sure that can recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage.

  • Inbox and sent mail gone after re-entering account settings in preferences

Tech support for my provider had me delete and re-enter my account settings in preferences as I was unable to send or receive mail. It wiped out my inbox and sent mail (smart mailboxes and archive folders are fine) I tried to import the mailboxes in the mail folder in the library, but these were created when I re-entered my information and were empty. AND I was in the process of reformatting the time machine drive so my backup were lost. Duh. I did a global search for "inbox" but nothing is coming up and tech support at comcast was at a loss. Any ideas where these messages could have gone? I verified my HD, as was recommended, and it is fine. Thanks!

  • Odd graphic appearing in drafts and sent mail opposite sender/date info

Hi, I was wondering if anyone might be able to offer some advice...
I've noticed just this past day or so that some of my draft and sent mail messages have inexplicably got a small image of a basketball appearing on the far right of the messages directly opposite where an addressee's name and the date of the message would appear. A friend has confirmed that he actually received a message with this basketball logo on it...!
The only other time I have seen this logo was last night when I had launched my iChat program for the first time using my aol IM account details, and I'd noticed the basketball graphic had been assigned next to my name when the program was open... But after deciding the iChat program wasn't offering anything I preferred particularly over my existing aol IM account I deleted my account details in iChat and quit the program... Could this be related?
Would be most grateful for any assistance- obviously with many business/work emails to send a basketball logo in the far right header of outgoing mail is not something I am happy with...!
    Thanks.

    Hello CMK.
Since you have the option to store sent messages on the server, this must be a .Mac or IMAP type account.
If so, quit the Mail.app and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes.
Locate the Sent Messages.mbox for this account - it will be Sent Messages (the IMAP account's name).mbox.
All locally stored mailboxes for a .Mac or IMAP type account are located in the Mailboxes folder.
Move the account's Sent Messages.mbox to the Desktop.
When re-launching Mail, a new Sent Messages.mbox will be created automatically by Mail for the account within the Mailboxes folder when sending the next message with the account.
This will prevent losing any new sent messages with the account while working on the old Sent Messages.mbox to recover the existing messages.
Control-click on the old Sent Messages.mbox moved to the Desktop and at the menu window that appears, select Show Package Contents.
Post back here listing the package content file names and size of each. This information is required to determine the next step to take.

My friend and I are having just the same problem on an old iMac running OSX 10.4.11 and Mail 2.1.3. I've located the lost messages on my friend's external HD. They were in the directory Users-->(username)-->Library-->Mail-->POP-(username@ISP address@incoming mail server).
The folders were copied to the iMac's desktop from HD. The problem is that using the Import Mailboxes function under File in the Mail menu produced the following error message, "No valid Mail for Mac OSX files were found".
The folder contains several mailbox folders, (name.mbox), including INBOX.mbox, Sent Messages.mbox, etc. They probably are the old default folders. Within each is a Messages folder. Their contents can be read individually by clicking on each .emlx file BUT how do we import them back into Mail?

  • How do I get rid of duplicate "in" and "sent" mail boxes?

I have installed a new version of Thunderbird on a new machine and used Easy Transfer to move my mail boxes etc from my old machine. The problem is that I now have duplicate "in" and "sent" mail boxes. New in and sent mail only appears in one of them but I can't delete the other. I have deleted all messages in the extra "in" box (they were all duplicates) but have not been able to do the same with the messages in the duplicate "sent" box because the "deleted" folder where they would go is not big enough to take the 16000 messages in there (when I "select all" and "delete" it just says "deleted folder is full" when in fact there's nothing in it; I am assuming this just means it would not take all the messages to be deleted). Help please!

  • Switching accounts deleted old inbox and sent mail

I switched internet service providers. In Mail I went to Preferences and deleted the old account. I didn't realize this would cause my old e-mails that were still in the inbox and sentmail to disappear. I see that some attachments that came with old message are now in the trash. Is there a way I can recover the old inbox and sentmail contents?
    Thank you.

Before deleting an account in Tiger Mail, the following warning message is provided:
Are you sure you want to remove the (account type here) account “XXXXXXXXXX”?
This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Copies of messages on the mail server, if they exist, are not affected.
This is usually ignored or not completely understood but is based on the Mail.app filing structure so now the long winded answer for the reason.
Many other email clients utilize a single large database file which is not dependent on individual account and associated mailbox filing. When creating an account in Mail, an account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) is created in the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail using the Finder. For POP type accounts, the following mailbox (mbox) folders are created within the account named folder when the function is used by the account: INBOX.mbox, Drafts.mbox, Sent Messages.mbox, Deleted Messages.mbox and Junk.mbox (when Junk mail is set to automatic). The mbox folders within the account named folder represent the account named mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk (when Junk mail is set to automatic) in the Mail.app mailboxes drawer.
When deleting an account in Mail, the account named folder at Home > Library > Mail is deleted at that time and as the warning message indicates, the associated account mailboxes within the account named folder are also deleted. You must select OK after the warning message appears.
It would be preferable for the account named folder to be moved to the hard drive Trash can which requires an additional step to delete but this is not what occurs.
To have any hope of recovering your data, you need to immediately stop using your system and then purchase a copy of a recovery tool such as Tech Tool Pro (Micromat), Data Rescue (Prosoft Engineering) or FileSalvage (subrosasoft) which have data recovery tools. I've used FileSalvage with good results.
    http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1
The chances generally aren't really good even so, but short of sending your drive to a data recovery service (expensive), such utilities are your only hope.
Note that the more you use your system before you attempt recovery, the more likely it is that the system will overwrite the sections of the drive where the data you want to recover is stored, rendering it unrecoverable by any means. You should therefore stop using the system completely until you get and try to use one of the file recovery tools.
This also emphasizes the importance of maintaining a regular backup of the Mail folder and other important data.

  • I cannot get email set up correctly on my 4s using a Pop3 account and a BTConnect email address. How do I do it please?

    Hi,
I have an iphone 4S and am trying to set up mail so that I can send and receive relating to our home email account which is unfortunately a "btconnect" address and a POP3 account.
How do I do it please?
BT seem unable to supply IMAP settings.
Do I need to do something with a Gmail account?
    Thanks in advance.
    Chris

Have  a look at this guide .If you are setting up a POP3 account Imap is a totally different methodology and irrelevant .

  • Configure a POP3 account for sending mail only

Right heres my problem; I have an inbox.com account (POP3 Only) and a Google Mail account (IMAP) which I only use to sync my calender. I use my inbox.com account for all my mail as its a more formal address but google mail has the IMAP feature which is extremely useful to have. I've managed to make google mail account grab my emails from my inbox.com account via POP3 so I can have my desktop and laptop use IMAP through google mail however. Is there any way of having an account on my iphone that is only used to send emails and not receive because if I set it up so it sends and receives I get 2 copies of the same email from google mail and inbox.com accounts which is extremely annoying. If I remove the incoming account information on the iphone then every time i try and receive emails it comes up with an error which is also very annoying.
    Thank you

No, there's not, as far as I know.

  • Oracle Connector for Outlook and Sent Mail

I'm very desperate for help with my problem. I have a customer that uses Outlook 2003 with the Oracle Connector for Outlook. When I set up the Connector, I only had it handle her Calendar. By that I mean that the only thing I wanted the Connector to do was pull her Oracle Calendar information and put it into Outlook's calendar. I used the default setting of the Connector of IMAP, but deselected the incoming and outgoing mail servers.
The user kept having problems with Outlook going Offline so I decided to remove the Connector. I did not realize until after removing the Connector account from Outlook that her sent mail was being saved in Oracle. This is very problematic for me because I have no idea what to do. Is there a way to retrieve the sent mail? I don't even understand why the sent mail was being saved within the Oracle folder. Once I deleted the Connector account in Outlook I was then told that I had to choose another folder for new mail to go to so I chose Personal Folders.
If I go to \Documents and Settings\User's Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook, I find the folder for the Connector. There is one in particular that has a .dll file that is about 56MB in size. However, I have no idea if that's the sent mail and, if so, how do I retrieve it.
I'd GREATLY appreciate any help that can be given on this. I simply would like to know if there is a way to retrieve that mail.
The user is using an IMAP account. This is NOT an Exchange account.

    1. Yes, OCFO is only for comunication with Oracle Calendar
    2. Yes, you can see any mail stored on the Oracle IMAP server without OCFO. Just subscribe to IMAP folders you want ...

  • In and Sent mail missing how to recover?

Running latest version of Snow Leopard. Switched over to iCloud before the drop dead date. All has been fine until this morning when my In and Sent boxes were empty of all messages. Archived and mail moved to other folders remain.
Rebuild remains greyed out. Take accounts offline and online is also greyed out.
Time Machine from last night's final backup displays the messages, but after two tries the restore function does not seem to restore the In or Sent box messages. All messages are on the server and on my iPhone and iPad and all appear in Time Machine. I just can't get them to restore.
Outgoing Mail Server is smtp.me.com.my name
How do I get mail in Snow Leopard to start playing nice with iCloud again and resync my In and Sent folders?

You are still using the Mobile Me servers which have shut down for some and are shutting down for everyone else.
You will have to make a new account using the server settings required by Apple [look here]: additionally you will have to setup the account manually, see below.

  • 8330 and sent mail copying

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but my 8330 for some reason has stopped sending copies of  messages sent from the 8330 to my MSN mail account sent mail folder.  This seems to have stopped about 2 weeks ago.
Any assistance would be great as I need to maintain copies of sent mail!
    Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
    I suggest the following steps:
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > BBKey (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    4) Delete and re-create the BIS conduit for this email account:
