Possible 3.0 installation for touch 2nd Gen users

ok I tried this the other day on XP 64 and got a massive failure. Lovely.
I been reading this forum for the last 2 days, and I now my pc well enough to know there is nothing wrong with it.
You'll need a PC with XP 32 on it. ( I can not verify any other OS, Sorry) next make sure iTunes is installed and upto date.
I read you need to open ports for the update to work, I went BEYOND this, and DMZ the XP 32 PC, Then restarted it(DEP is off, Firewall is disabled, ALL spyware/virus programs shut down).
Here we go:
hook up the iPod touch and let iTunes back it up, do the software update, ok for me it said a 1602 error after it suppsibly alsmost tried to install the 3.0 software. Shut down iTunes, MOVE the USB cord to ANOTHER USB port, restart iTunes, at this point it told me the iPod touch was in recovery mode and would recover it and install the latest software. DO this. At this point I thought Whatever, Back to 2.2.1 in 15 minutes, Well the recovery worked.
I'm not gonna say this is gonna work for EVERYONE but it's a possible solution. I hope this helps some of you, Good luck.
This sounds like to me a firewall/iTunes problem.

possible answer.

iPod touch 2nd gen can go up to 4.2.1.
iPod touch 3rd or 4th gen can go up to 5.0.1 (and future updates).

What is the highest firmware for the ipod touch 2nd gen. and where can I download it and place it onto my ipod fast?

iOS 4.2.1 is the latest version you can install and run on your 2G iPod Touch.  You can complete the update and installation via iTunes.

To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

Have Ipod Touch 2nd Gen. 64 gig. I noticed that my music will not play alphabetically anymore. Don't know exactly when this occured. I checked all my settings so doesn't seem to be that.Apple no longer is upgrading this unit..I use windows XP but don't believe this is an issue since i have read posts saying this is not the problem..right now am converting my higher bit rate music to see if that changes anything. I also turned off my unit and the next thing am going to do is a restore if this doesn't work. Anyone find a fix for this yet? I also see that this is not a unique problem to Gen 2 units and is occuring on newer units as well..thank you all for any advise...

    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Is the iPod Touch 2nd Gen no longer usable? Is this what is store for all Apple products?

I am very disheartened with Apple.  I have loved the iPod touchs up until now.  It seems the iPod Touch 2nd Gen no longer download apps that work on the 4.2.1 iOS.  I was just selling my wife on Apple products and now this has shut her and I down on all Apple products.  I hope I am wrong but is Apple partaking in planned obsolesence? If so, planned obsolesence is not marketing and I will be looking at other brands when it comes to electronic devices.  If not, how do you download apps for an iPod touch 2nd gen running a max iOS of 4.2.1?  Thank you.

Don't despair Look at "Vintapps" in the Apple app store.  It has tons of available apps for all those earlier ios devices.  And you can download them right to your ios device.  Many are free.
Although I wrote this 99 cent app specifically to help solve this problem, I need to add that "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link."
Be sure to keep backups of older software.  Once an app is updated, the older version is no longer available to be downloaded from Apple.

  • How do I get a iOS update for my iPod Touch 2nd gen.? Where's the love for us?

How come no updates for iOS for 2 gen iPod touch owners like me?
    Where's the love for us?

Did you think that your ipod would get software updates forever?
Really?  This is noting new or unusual at all.
The older hardware in computers/ipods/iphones/televisions/dvd players/cars/etc does not support any and all new software that ever comes out.
Your ipod touch operates as it always has - with several updates from the original software.  However, the newest software is not available for the 2nd gen.

Pretty sure there never was iTunes 4.2.1 and if there was, it did not work with the iPod touch (any version).
    Do you mean iOS 4.2.1?
new version doesn't sync with my ipod :/

  • I was downloading updates for ipod touch 2nd gen and twice when I was to processing files stage it clicked off. There was no message on whether it was done or what I was to do next. I needed to reset the ipod. Now what do I do?

I was downloading updates for Ipod touch 2nd gen and when the process was to the processing files point the screen changed and I wasn't given any idea as to whether the process was complete or not and if it was what was to be done next. I needed to reset the Ipod and now I am wondering what to do . Spend another Hour downloading and whatever amount on processing files and end up where I am now . Whats the next step in finding out what to do? This was the second attempt to do this with the first try happening the same except I am not sure how long the processing files part was.. Any suggestions as to what to try will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

Likely a batter problem since high temperatures destroy a battery.  I wold make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to see what they say.  It is free except for your time.

I bought a mic for my ipod touch 2nd gen and the mic works yet when its plugged in the speakers dont work, meaning i cant hear, so skype and other similar apps are un-useable, is there a way in which the mic and speakers will both work together?

Looking at the details for this mic, it appears that the app has to have the option to use the internal specak when a mic is plugged into the headphone jack. Specifically:
NOTE: When MityMic is plugged into your iPod/iPhone you won’t be able to use the onboard speaker for sound output. You must remove the MityMic then play back your recordings. (The Skype app has an option to enable the onboard speaker even when the mic is plugged in, so you could use MityMic for placing Skype calls. However most other apps do not have this function.)

  • Using an iPad charger for a 2nd gen iPod touch

I have a 12W usb power adapter for an iPad and was wondering if you can use it to charge an iPod touch 2nd gen. Does this have a negative effect on the iPod touch?

None at all. Apple says it is acceptable and I use it for all my devices, including the small 7G iPod Nano

  • How do I transfer my current iTunes Library for a 5th gen. Nano to a used iPod touch 2nd gen.?

I was given a used iPod touch 2nd. gen because my old faithful 5th generation nano was tragically washed. But I'm scared to just plug the new one into my computer to see what happens. I want to make sure I don't lose all of the music I have on my nano. Anyone know how to do this?

Not sure what you are atlaking about.
Lose what mui from what ipod.
Your music should be on your computer.  Sync it to your ipod.
