Possible fix for 3rd party apps crashing after 3.0

If some or most of your 3rd party apps crash when launching them after upgrading to 3.0, I have a fix that cured my problem. Another symptom is that you can delete the App, then reinstall and it works until syncing with iTunes.
Well my cure was to download any app, even a free one via iTunes, then sync with the iPhone. All was cured. I usually just download Apps straight from the iPhone, but the iTunes route worked.

  • A Permanent Fix For 3rd party apps that don't launch?

Since Apple has removed my post suggesting this is a bug (and if you've owned iPhones from the get go, you will know that this is). I'm putting a question out to the forum in hopes that besides the already mentioned deleting/updating an app via the store, uninstalling all apps (losing all the app data) and reinstalling et al, has anyone found a way to keep this from happening ever OR a way to back up the particular file that must store authorization data that gets corrupted?

My experience is the same as w7ox for as long or longer. I've had a couple of apps that would occasionally crash on launch, but these were fixed in updates from the developer. One thing to be aware of is that all apps share the same memory, so if one is ill-behaved it can cause others that are perfectly innocent to crash on launch. So the likely situation is that you have one errant app. When an app crashes because a problem in a different app a reboot will fix it, sometimes only until the other app is run again.
BTW, there are huge numbers of posts pointing to problems that are called bugs by the posters (and some actually are), so it's likely your post was deleted for a different reason than the fact that reported a bug.

  • All 3rd party apps Crash - Already Restored FIVE Times to date - Apple fix?

Since the 2.0 update my apps have had constant crashing issues. Usually after opening 8 or so apps in a row (very easy to do when downloading and testing many apps) ... Powering down and powering back up usually helped/fixed the issue, if temporarily.
Now, since 2.0.1 I've had times when one app will crash to the home screen, and from that point on ALL 3rd party apps immediately crash. Powering down the iPod, and powering back up does not fix the problem. Resetting the ipod (Sleep and Home buttons held) does not help either. I've also tried just Syncing the ipod, but this, alas, does nothing to help.
When it's come to this in the past I've had to do a complete iPod restore, which if it weren't just for the time taken restoring, the time taken re-arranging the icons/screens puts the process into the realm of a major pain. But having a way to assign apps to a particular screen on the ipod/iphone within iTunes is a topic for another thread.
Is there a way around this (crashing issue) that I'm just not seeing?
I'm tired of being and eff-ing guinea pig; this is not why I'm an apple user, this is one of the reasons I make fun of Windows people and get them to switch TO apple.

Well, now it's official, thanks to 3rd party apps and/or faulty system software my iPod is Dead.
When I created this thread I was having all 3rd party apps crash constantly, and instantly upon launch. The myriad of methods used to recover it to working order failed. I decided to do a Restore and use the last successful backup. It got to about the 95% mark on the restore and hung for 2 hours. The exact same place for 2 hours.
Not having the ability or patience to wait for my iPod to get done tying up my computer, I reset it. Now, all I've got is a $299.99 Paperweight that constantly displays a nice and shiny apple logo on it's screen.
An attempt to restore it to factory settings only gave me an error dialogue box:
The iPod "Kuhnaydeein's iPod" could not be restored.
    An unknown error occurred (0xE8000035).
Now what am I supposed to do? I don't live near an Apple Store, the only place that sells apple merch is the store where I work, in the department I work. I know our policy on taking back/exchanging iPods.
What I've failed to mention is how I'm EVER going to sell one of these to someone if there's a chance they'll just be getting the same FAULTY Hardware/Software I'm now stuck with? Is Apple going to come to the rescue, read this post and replace my iPod? I sincerely hope they read this, because they don't give the slightest hint at any Direct Email addresses on the Apple.com website. (What's with that anyway?)
So what do I do now? RESTORING IS NOT AN OPTION.

  • Every single 3rd party App crashes

    Hello,
I'm running a 8gb EDGE 2.0.1 iphone. Every single 3rd party app crashes all of a sudden. I tried restore. all native apple apps load, but even when I just synce 1 3rd party app to the iphone (so all native iphone apps and 1 3rd party) that always crashes to iphone home screen.
I need to fix this because I need to use 3rd party apps like zenbe (which was working perfectly for me a week ago)

ok i had this same problem i called apple the guy i got new exactly what was happening and game me a work around. follow these steps exactly. this is a mac work around only dont know about windows.
1 make sure your phone is not connected to your computer.
2 delete every app directly from iphone by holding a app and then clicking the x
3 go to settings general reset and choose reset all settings
4 now on your computer open itunes on the menu bar go to store and deauthorize your computer
    5 quit itunes
6 reopen itunes and reauthorize the computer then exit itunes
7 open isync go to preferences and select reset sync history and exit isync
8 open itunes and connect your iphone. it may freeze itunes for 2-10 minutes but dont exit just
wait it will eventually recognize your iphone.
9 after itunes recognizes your iphone go to the music tab and select a small playlist to sync then got to the app tab and choose sync selected apps and if anything is selected deselect them.
10 if you have remote app select it if not download it for free and select it
11 then select two other apps and click apply
12 it will start to sync. it will say removing apps let it do this. depending on how many apps you have it could take a long time (mine took more than an hour)
13 if you get error 0xE800002E after you are done just repeat steps 1-8 it wont take long this time
14 if you dont get the error check to see if your remote works if it does check the other apps if they dont work repeat steps 1-8 if they do you are done just restart the iphone to make sure the still work
15 if you got the 0xE800002E error and have repeated 1-8 sync remote and two other apps and it should work if it does not try again it worked for me the first time though.
it is a long process but be patient and all will work out.
that is it until apple fixes this stupid issue which should never have gotten passed testing.
    hope this helps
if u need help or inform me of how it went u can email me at [email protected]

    Mike,
If by "still nothing" you mean they are not showing up in the AU manager after reinstalling them....
Im guessing the AU Cache itself is now corrupted so.....
    Quit LPX
    Open Finder
Press the option key and click "Go" in Finder's menu and select "Library". (This is the User Library and not the System Library and is normally hidden which is why you have to hold down the option key when clicking on Go.... to reveal it in the drop down menu that will appear)
Go to "Caches" dir and remove "AudioUnitCache" dir.
    Now Restart your Mac.....
and then Launch LPX and let it rescan your plugins and see if that fixes things....
    Fingers crossed...

  • 3rd party apps crashing with 3.1

I have a 3GS running 3.1, and after updating all 3rd party apps are crashing when I try to launch them. The app's splash screen will load, and then it'll go back to the iphone app screen.
I've tried restoring and that didn't help.
I then tried deleting and redownloading apps, and that didn't help.
Has anyone found a way to fix this?

    this is Apple's response:
    Dear Corey,
Thank you for contacting the iTunes Store. I understand that your applications are crashing, and have not been able to use it because it quits unexpectedly when you try to open it on your device. I know this is frustrating, and I will try to provide as much information as I can to help you resolve it.
Corey, it's possible that the application became corrupt as it was downloading. Because you purchased the application and the installation was not successful, you may download it again at no charge. I recommend that you delete the application from your device and from iTunes, and then download the application to your computer and sync your device to your computer.
To uninstall the application from your device Corey, tap and hold its icon on the home screen until the icons wiggle. Then tap the "X" next to icon of the application to delete it. To stop the other icons from wiggling, press the Home button.
To delete the application from iTunes, open iTunes and click Applications on the left, then click the icon of the application. Press the Delete key on your keyboard, then click the Remove button, and then click the Move to Trash button.
Now, using your computer, sign in to your iTunes Store account and attempt to purchase the application again. You will be notified that you have already purchased the application and will be allowed to download it again for free. After downloading the application to your computer, sync your device to your computer.
If your computer is not available Corey, you may try purchasing the application again using the App Store on your device.
If the application quits unexpectedly even after you reinstall it, please reply to let me know. I will be happy to assist you further.
Please note that if you download other types of iTunes Store content—such as songs or videos—and find that they are unusable, it’s not possible to simply delete them and download them again. Instead, you must sign in to your account, access your Purchase History, and click the "Report a Problem" button.
Thank you for being an iTunes Store customer Corey. We appreciate your business. We here at the iTunes Store appreciate your business.
I did this with a few apps, and most worked, but a couple still display the same launch/crash symptoms. Also, i have several apps that if I delete them from the phone, I would loose information entered into them, so this solution is fair from ideal. I'm also running Blizzard's Authenticator, which I can't easily remove from my battle.net account without logging in, and I can't log in without the authenticator working.

  • Structured approach to debugging performance bottlenecks for 3rd Party apps

    Hi All,
I am facing a situation which I believe most App Support personnel and DBAs in IT organizations do, but I havent found a structured approach to solve the problem. I am hoping this thread can help filter and pull together the varied chunks of information out there in one place.
Here is the situation. I am avoiding making it too specific, as the idea is to identify a good approach that is repeatable in other scenarios.
We are in the process of implementing a solution using a third party application (SAP's BPC), which is sitting on an Oracle database. The application implementation team has some control on to use the application to design the solution, but no direct access to the underlying queries that the app generates. We are starting to find that as the underlying database usage size is increasing (from a couple of million to tens of mllions of records), the performance of certain operations is becoming very unpredictable. Sometimes an operation would go through, relatively fast while at other times it would get stuck for over an hour and then time-out.
In such situations it is a classic battle between the Oracle DBAs and the App implementation team to try and push the ball in each other's court to try and identify and "fix" the problem.
What in your opinion would be a structured approach between the two teams to help solve the problem? For each step of the approach, please also try and see if you can point to links which further dive into specifics of executing that step.
For example, one approach might be to ...
    1. DBA team to find a way to identify specific Querios/DBOperations that are taking too long. (add references here)
    2. App team to collaborate with the App manufacturer's support organization to see what design changes or parameters could alter the nature of queries being generated or affect the size of the underlying tables. (too specific for each 3rd party app)
    3. After exhausing (2), DBA team to analyze the remaining culprit queries and find ways to obtain better performance without changing the query or the size of the database tables via indexes/DB parameters/etc.. (add references here)
    4. After exhausing (3), DBA/Unix admin team to identify which specific hardware bottlenecks are being faced (CPUs/storage/memory) to see if hardware changes can help obtain better performance.
    Thoughts?

    >

    >
In general your approach is correct.
However I'd put priorities different way.
    1. DBA team to find a way to identify specific Querios/DBOperations that are taking too long. (add references here)
    2. DBA team to analyze the culprit queries and find ways to obtain better performance without changing the query or the size of the database tables via indexes/DB parameters/etc.. (add references here)
With collaboration with the App manufacturer's support if required.
Indexes are transparent to application logic. They do not affect results data. Only performance.
Note that indexes should be regular b-tree indexes, not unique or bitmap.
    Edited by: user11181920 on Nov 7, 2012 3:20 PM
Changes of queries can be allowed here, with using Oracle query substitution techniques (Plan Stability, Plan Management...).
    3. After exhausing (2), DBA/Unix admin team to identify which specific hardware bottlenecks are being faced (CPUs/storage/memory) to see if hardware changes can help obtain better performance.
Not only because today to beef up HW is less expensive way to improve performance comparing to SW optimization, especially redesign of App; but mainly, in case with SAP, the poor performance that can be improved by HW tells that the sizing of the system has been done incorrectly.
SAP has a methodology to size your HW depending on volume of data, number of users and quantity of transactions.
Sizing should be re-done if your data grown beyond the volume that had been used for initial SAP sizing.
    4. After exhausting (3), App team to collaborate with the App manufacturer's support organization to see what design changes or parameters could alter the nature of queries being generated or affect the size of the underlying tables. (too specific for each 3rd party app)

  • Third-Party Apps Crashing After Update

After getting the new update for my 8GB iPod Touch, I discovered my third-party apps no longer worked--they would briefly seem to boot up before crashing to the desktop. I fixed this problem by restoring my iPod, reinstalling everything, resyncing music (which took several hours). But then when I connected my iPod Touch to charge it, it said it wasn't finished restoring it or something. I said to finish; it soon says the restoration failed with a maddeningly vague error message (-34), some of my third-party apps crash again, and all my music is gone. What is going on, and is Apple taking steps to fix this problem with the new OS? Is there any way to revert to OS3?

Here is what I did & my phone now works fine:
Ok.  I went back to the apple store.  They reloaded the IOS6 software from a computer they knew had a good version of the software and treated the phone as if it was a new phone.  We did not back it up from my pervious backups.  I then reloaded all the apps from the app store and not my computer.  My phone is working great now.  It appears I had a corrupted copy of the IOS 6 or a corrupted app that was causing the problem and it syncing just fine without the problem returning.

  • "Software Update" for 3rd Party Apps?

    Hi,
Does anyone know of an application that could act like Software Update for 3rd party programs, so that a list of updatable applications shows and you can select to download them all at once?
I know some do an update check on launch, but I was just wondering if there was a more convenient way?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Yes, but no. App Update is a widget that will check for updated versions of your apps. It can be found at http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/appupdate.html. Unfortunately, it won't install them for you, but will give you links to websites where you can download the newest version. I use it and like it. Give it a try!

  • How to enable iCloud Keychain for 3rd party apps?

I came across iCloud Keychain, which if enabled, lets you backup keychain passwords and restore on other iOS devices. Also read that 3rd party apps can integerate iCloud Keychain to their apps in order to ensure that the app's keychain items are backed up to iCloud Keychain. Would like to know more on what 3rd party apps can do with iCloud keychain.
    Even Appls's FAQ says so:
Does iCloud Keychain work with third-party apps?  Yes. Developers can update their apps to work with iCloud Keychain. Passwords saved by those apps are then kept up to date on all devices that use the app and running iOS 7.0.3 or later or OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later.
I couldn't really find implementation details. Please help.

If the the data is stored in the backup, it should restore to the iPad when you restore the backup. If that's not happening, sometimes it's becuase the data is stored on the app's server.
SInce you are not having any luck restoring the backup, I would do a Google search such as this one using thses parameters - without the quotes.
    "restore candy crush backup progress"
Personally, I do not trust any game that has in app purchases like these games have. It is my paranoid belief that the game developers do not want you to be able to restore your progress.

  • 10.5.7 Update Possible Fix for Mail and Safari crash

    Hi all,
I'm far from a computer whiz, but I've had both my MBP and my MacMini go kaput within 12 hours of each other from what had to be 10.5.7 update. I did the software update install on both without backup :0(
Anyhoo, I was experiencing same problems as many on the boards. Mail would crash, Safari would crash, etc. Spent three hours and two minutes on phone with Apple Care. Not overly helpful but they tried.
Ended up creating a new user and migrating data. Took the better part of a day. I do not recommend! Downloading whole installer kind of daunting as I am in Saudi Arabia where internet can be...sketchy...
I found this post below here and it fixed everything on my Mini. I'm not guaranteeing anything, but it sure helped me. You may want to try it if everything else is not working...
    Props to rwtroxel!

I think I figured it out. Deleted "Internet Plug-Ins/JavaPluginCocoa.bundle" and everything now works.

Problems arising right after installing a system update are usually the result of the problem already being there, or some filesystem corruption that should have been fixed first, or not having installed the update properly (e.g. applications running while installing it), or having ignored Apple’s “Important: Please read before installing” warnings, etc.
Quit all the applications and verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, if you’ve installed Safari 3 Beta, uninstall that first, then reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with the computer:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update for PowerPC
Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update for Intel
After installing the Combo Update, the computer may restart twice and the first restart may take several minutes. This is normal.
If you installed the latest Security Update, you may need to reinstall that as well:
    Security Update 2007-006 (Universal)
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk and back up before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.
BTW, please update the Operating System field on your My Settings’s profile (and click Save), so that the version of Mac OS X you’re running now automatically appears in all your posts and not just in some of them.

  • After installing Yosemite, all office for mac 2011 apps crash after opening

Using 2013 MBP, installed Yosemite Friday and when opening Word, Excel, Powerpoint, & Outlook, they open for 5 seconds and then error out and crash.  Any ideas?  Thanks

Completely uninstall Office. Reinstall it from scratch using the original media. If you don't have the uninstaller then follow these procedures for getting it all removed:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller
      10. Spring Cleaning

  • IOS 6 Custom Ringtones for 3rd party apps such as Talkatone

Will iOS 6 ever allow an app such as talkatone or google voice to allow custom ringtones? Does anyone know??
Since they upgraded from iOS 5 to 6 that feature is no longer available. It is quite a bummer. Please put it on again Apple!

You can't use custom ringtones for Talkatone.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
