Possible overloads solution...

Again I can only speak based on the hardware I have, but I know the overloads problem is affecting A LOT of LP8 users.
I went thru the tedious process of trying to get a more permanent solution to the constant Overloads problems I had even on very small projects (1 Audio track and 4 Virtual Instrument tracks). I had tried just about every suggestion and because I wanted to be sure I had a solution I had to exit LP8 and restart LP8 after each change I made.
To make a long story short, the ONLY combination I had not tried under Preferences | Audio | Devices | Core Audio was setting the I/O buffer size to 256 and checking I/O safety (I had tried every other combination from 32 - 1024 with and without I/O safety checked). And viola suddenly my project was no longer getting any overloads and my CPU utilization was pretty good/low.
Of course, I need to do a lot more testing and considerably more complex projects, but at least I'm moving in a more positive direction rather than a hopeless direction. I still feel such a simple project should NEVER reach any overloads regardless of my buffer settings and I've got plenty of System.logs with hard samples of real problems with LP8. So don't take this a LP8 is all good now, this is just a possible solution that is working for now and has at least made LP8 useful rather than useless to me.
My Hardware:
2 Dual Core processors (aka a Quad MacPro) @ 3GHz
8GB RAM
ATI 1900XT 512MB Video
Motu Ultralite
4 internal drives (1 500GB HD, 2 500GB RAID, 1 300GB Bootcamp Vista)
Mackie Control
Mackie C4 Pro
MAudio Axiom 25
So my suggestion is take the time to go thru EVERY single possible combination of I/O Buffer Size and I/O Safety enable/disable setting and be sure you exit LP8 after each setting change BEFORE you test.
Hope this helps, Rob.

Your sig shows you're still on Tiger. I only started having these problems when I moved to 10.5.1.
Another solution for me was to select every track before the first play. BTW, the overloads would go away for the most part after every track had done a first play. Once every track had been "initialized", overloads were pretty rare (prior to the 256 buffer setting). But this was of course a very painful process to keep doing everytime I opened a project. The 256 buffer + safety I/O solutions seems to work so far. It's still very much a big coding problem for LP8, but at least I'm finding liveable work arounds til Apple fix it.

Have you tried re-booting your WiFi router ?  It may seem OK on your PC, but a re-boot may help.

Searching for this also listed a sony phone sync thingy ???
Look for FAAD2 , hopefully someone can make it compatable with itunes so we can get aac+ / aacplus.
Downloading the source code and possibly compiling it into OSX can also be done.
Aac+ = it's a start and at 24kbps sounding better than 128kbps mp3 = promise for saving's on internet connection bill for streaming / listening.
Now we just need to get a aac+ format for video then IPTV can finally take off.
    Hope this helps.

  • Frequent freezing - a possible (temporary) solution?

I recently purchased a used dual 1.42 ghz G4, that was running Jaguar (OS X 10.2) and immediately purchased the Mac Box Set with OS X 10.5.6, iWork, and iLife. I was THRILLED with my purchase... for about 40 minutes. Then my system froze up completely. I restarted, and again... everything was great... for about 40 minutes. Frozen again. I searched high and low for a solution, and nothing I tried worked.
From what I had read, I assumed that it was a hard drive issue. (I have 3 hard drives... the original 120 MB, a 250 MB, and a 400 MB.) I ran a few different HD utility programs, all reported that the drives were fine.
Last night, after rebooting for the 4th time, I had a flash of inspiration. I changed the energy saving setting to NOT shut down the hard drives when possible. Not a single freeze since then. Until a better, working alternative is found (or I get a new hard drive) I'm happy with this.
Please reply and let me know if this works for you... or if you have better ideas!

The problem started when I installed 10.5. Keeping the hard drives "awake" has been the only working solution I've found so far.

  • Possible update solution for some Jelly Bean issues on Razr Maxx

I bought a Razr Maxx used two weeks ago and wanted to a post a possible solution to the broken Jelly Bean update. My Razr Maxx (practically new) was slow, lagged, and gave me about 10 hours of battery life. Also, my Wi-Fi was horrible just 10 feet from the wireless router and it ran hot.
Before I chucked it for a used S3 I decided to do what others had done. Keep in mind, the phone had been previously factory reset after the JB update had been OTA'ed to the unit a few months ago. It was put in a drawer as the person bought a new phone.
So to be clear: It had gone through a factory reset but without clearing internal memory and had serious issues. I had cleared the Dalvik cache but it didn't help. Here's what fixed my phone:
I did a battery recalibration. This can be done by running the phone down to zero. Shutting it off and charging it overnight. This may have to be performed twice.
Backed up my files, removed the mSD card and from the OS, erased the internal storage. I also went into the Settings / Privacy and set Automatic Restore to off.
I cleared the Dalvik Cache again.
    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-maxx/232462-how-wipe-cache-without-doing-factory-reset.html
    I  booted into safe mode.
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=50079
From the OS within safe mode, I performed a factory reset and had it clear the internal storage again.
    Started the setup process.
    Cleared Dalvik Cache again.
The result is a smooth "buttery" feel (well, as smooth as this platform can offer) no massive lagging like before where the phone would just lock up for five seconds, no over heating, WiFi is seemingly normal and battery life is Maxx instead of Min. To give you an idea, the phone had been on light use and on for maybe 13 on battery when I did the reset. I did the hard reset from a 65% battery and reinstalled all the apps over WiFi and reconfigured. At 2:30 a.m. it was at 1 percent so I set the screen to 100% brightness and played a video until it died about 3 a.m. Basically the screen was on and the phone being used from around 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. after coming off the charger at 8 a.m. the previous morning.
Will this work for you? I don't know but I know the Jelly Bean in place upgrade on this phone is pretty flaky from the complaints.
If your phone has been turned into a pile of junk by the update, you have nothing left to lose unless you're just using it as a bargaining chit to get a new phone from VZW.
Good luck to anyone who tries it.
If you are trying to diagnose battery issues, I recommend GSAM.

  • Stalls on import - possible clue & solution

Just in case anyone else is having this prob:
I've had a persistent problem with LR - from the very start - on my laptop where part way through importing Canon raw files from a CF card the import will stall. I would have to relaunch the app and then retrying to import the images would result in several duplicate images (usually 5 or 6) from the point where the first import stalled being duplicated in the library - noted with a -2 at the end of the filename. A possible clue to the problem and a seemingly good solution is by not having the top tool bar showing - the one with the ID plate, modules and thumbnails alongside the progress bar then this seems to stop the freezes. I've done card after card like this and it seems to be working just fine. My guess is that it is the accessing of the thumbnail image for the progress bar which was causing the problem.
I still get regular freezes when LR 1.2 is building the initial previews, sometimes it restarts by itself, other times I have to restart the app. This is a known problem.
    Steve

My choice is to first copy all the files from the CF using a card reader to a folder on disc and then import them to Lightroom from the folder on disc.
If you look at that process it is relatively slow. So what I would recommend is to copy all the files off CF card first. I also disable my Anti-Virus software when copying from CF card. (why have it intercept my files when I know that my Nikon/Canon/etc is virus-free).
(If there is any problem, do a quick look through your copied files and compare them to the listing of the CF card. (Open two Windows, side-by-side, one with a listing of the CF card and the other with a listing of the folder on disc where you copied them. Difference will be easy enough to spot).
Then import your files to Lighroom from your disc.
That is how I do it and it always works.

  • Macbook Keyboard freezing (Possibly a solution)

    Hi all
after doing some thinking, I believe I may have found a solution to the Macbook Leopard keyboard issue.
This is what I think maybe possible.
We need a Macbook and then try and copy the Mac OS X Tiger keyboard driver and overwrite the one in Mac OS X Leopard, thus replacing it with a much more stable one, and possibly making it work without the dreaded crashing

Lauraford, you seem to be having a similar problem to many other people here. Check out this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5786564

  • Possible upgrade solution for people who have HD and problems in general.

OK, for me, Leopard has been as painful as going osx from OS9, at least the upgrade has been , dunno about the retail copy., bugs, bugs, bugs with the upgrade for sure.
Here is what happens generally., you upgrade and basically you need to run disk tools from a external drive or the Leopard DVD., the problems move on still.
Solution i found was to back up to another drive, that is right guys, spend another hundred bucks no one warned you about., get a external HD or if your living it high and collect macs as Apple assumes you may just have a second Intel mac laying around with a Sata drive in it to start up in "Firewire Target Mode", (hold the "T" at start up)and start cloning your drive with SuperDuper (also need to purchase)..
    Ok
1- once you clone your drive (usualy a hour for the base system alone).
2- erase it as one partition,
3- in the options make sure it is set as GUID partition (takes about a hour) and
4- then as well zero out all the data., takes about 2 hours there as well.
5- Now run disk utilities from the Leopard DVD or the computer or booted up drive you used to do all this., if you can not fix permission of th volume you seen to reformat the Drive again 7 pass!, could take 4 hours.
Finally you will be able re clone it, and run disk tools after a days work no one warned you about.
*This disk utilities operation may take about 1 hour but say 11, and look like this below;*

*My ADVISE:* if you experienced these problems, as above, reformatting by zeroing out the data works. as for those who want Leopard. *DO NOT UPGRADE but install a RETAIL version of LEOPARD* until apple has a update,
I read posts where people who have the retail copy (full DVD) have not experienced these problems, mine was a upgrade from Tiger since i got a mac in the last 30 days.
WARNING: it has been hard to trust Apple fanatics with these things now days, many posts are denials to things not working so i could be wrong there as well, been honest saves time is all i can advise them.
If anyone has beter advise please do post it.

  • Possible Slowness Solution For Mac In LR4.2RC

    Hi all --
This might be a total red-herring, but after using LR4 for a while and experiencing the rotten slowness of it all on my MacBook Pro, I did some experimenting in LR4.2RC. I've written my findings up on my blog but I'll copy the solution here so you don't have to go digging.
Sidenote: for the benefit of the hardware nerds out there my main machine is a MacBook Pro Core i7 2.66GHz model (MacBookPro6,1), with a 512GB SSD, 8G RAM, running (at the moment) OS X 10.7.4. It’s not the most recent MacBook Pro, but it’s a 2010 model which with updates has no problems with anything else. My LR4 catalogue has about 110,000 images in it split into a hierarchy of Year -> Shoot -> Images.
The first thing I did was try and blitz the Preferences files. This has been known to work for Windows users, but of course the Mac version is different – at least that bit is. I’ll save you some time and tell you now that it didn’t do a dicky bird other than freak my copy of Lightroom out, so I ended up reinstating the plist files.
Then a friend suggested recreating the catalogue (cheers Gaz!). My LR4 catalogue came via a port from LR2 to LR3 over the past few updates. First thing I did was create a new catalogue and import everything from the old catalogue in to the new one via File -> Import From Another Catalog. It took a while but gave me a clean catalogue which sorta worked a bit better – still not massively fast, but faster.
The real paydirt came with Time Machine though. In common with a lot of Mac users I have a small external disk which I use to keep backups, handled by the OS. In addition to that there’s a sort-of journalling system which handles versions and Time Machine when the external disk isn’t connected (and incidentally will explain disk space discrepancies – you can read more about the phenomenon here). When I added ~/Library/Caches to the backup exclusions, LR4 was back to the speed I’d have expected.
To do this, click on your Time Machine icon (on the menubar, it’s the little clock with the arrow going backwards), and thenOptions on your Time Machine screen. It’ll allow you to exclude particular directories from the backup.
I can’t think of any particular downside to this as cache files are usually temporary, but I’m sure another Mac fanboi will correct me in the comments if this isn’t the case. As it is, it seems to have fixed it for me so far and I’ve been using Lightroom heavily for the past day or so. Whether it gets slower in time I don’t know and I’ll post an update if it does so. But I do hope this helps other frustrated Mac photogs out there!
    Best wishes
    Joel.
    x

    Joel!
This is fascinating and wonderful if it indeed works. I'm also going to try the exclude ~/Library/Caches tip and see if I get similar speed results. I'm finding that I have to quit out of Lightroom every few hours and relaunch when it gets bogged down to a less than happy place.
I'll report back in about a week with my findings.

I have already tried with SAP KW but its not working unexpectedly. I will follow up with our client for this.
Apart from SAP KW is there any other way by which we can perform mass download of documents in solman ?

  • Beginner stumped, possible array solution?

    Hi there,
I am completely new to using anything other than frontpage for designing webpages so please bear with me
I've been experimenting with dreamweaver all week and it's just phenomonal. Of course through doing this I have gotten a taste of using PHP and Javascript, but I'm completely winging it and googling like a mad-un trying to find answers to, very simple, queries.
Anyway, here is what I am up to now...
I'm creating a very simple website that will host recipes. I have created the databases required etc but I can't fathom out how to dynamically attach a list of ingredients to a recipe.
    Eg
    Recipe name - WOW
    Description - Home made wine
    Ingredients | QTY
    Sugar | 1000g
    juice | 2L
    water | 3L
Now for the main database I would like to have 5 columns, Recipe_No, Recipe_name, Recipe_Desc, Recipe_Ing and Recipe_qty.
I just have no idea how to do this. I'm guessing it would be an array? Obviously different recipes would have different amounts of ingredients so the array would need to be made dynamically depending on that.
Even just a nudge in the right direction would be great, I am a complete novice though and have only slightly dabbled with the code side of dreamweaver.
    thanks
    Scott
(Oh, sorry for the stupid username I got fed up with it refusing the names I was trying so I just typed in any old random key strokes)

Lol no worries about the recipe
As you say I currently have 2 tables in my DB (that matter in this instance).
The ingredient table looks like this..
    ingr_no, ingr_name, yield, fermentability, ingr_cost, per_qty, ingr_unit
It's populated with only a few items to get me started.
The recipe table looks like this...
    recipe_no, recipe_name, recipe_desc, recipe_ingr, ingr_qty, recipe_proc... etc
Everything is very simple to populate other than the "recipe_ingr" (and ingr_qty but that will be exactly the same) as obviously each recipe will have a number of ingredients. My problem is that I have no idea how to create an array dynamically based on a table of unknown quantity. My thinking is that all I really need to store in the "recipe_ingr" is the "ingr_no" of each item, as all the other information will be populated from it via the ingredients table.
I'm looking to use a dropdown to select the ingredient. When it's selected it's automatically added to the "recipe_ingr" array and the recordset will then update on the screen showing this. But I'm not sure what to write in order to have this action happen.
I'm possibly in over my head here as I'm even finding it hard to describe what I'm after lol.

  • Possible for Solution Manger to track Transaction usage?

    Dear Experts,
I want to track the usage of SAP transactions by the users in some systems over 1 year period. Based on some online reading, I can see the 2 options:
    1. Via SM19 Security Audit
    2. Via STAD (short term only)
However, with all the system monitoring features brought in by Solution Manager, is there a way to use Solution Manager to serve the same purpose?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Li Bin

Whilst not specific to solman, wouldn't ST03/ ST03N be a better alternative and increase the retention period from 3 months to 13 or or so?

  • Overloads SOLUTIONS

    Hi Guys,
I've had like most of you, soooo many Overload messages "Disk Too Slow" etc... OK, Now listen well and do the following:
1- NEVER record Audio on you Main Drive (the one that contains the System) NEVER!!!!
2- Disable Journaling On your Drives as Journaling SLOWS down disk Read/Write.
3- Try Increasing Buffer Size when Mixing, and Decreasing Buffer Size when recording.
4- DEFRAG your Drives guys, we All forget to do maintenance to our Drives.
5- Use Only Good Firewire Drives, Firewire 800 Recommended, don't expect Performance out of USB or USB 2 Drives.
*These are the Basic steps that all of you should follow to avoid these annoying OVERLOADs
I worked on a session thats 40 minutes long, with 122 Audio tracksplus many audio instruments and Loads of plugins on each track, 16 Reverbs open, VSS3,Spacedesigner,TC etc...... and I had no problems mixing down this project, I moved from drive to drive till I found out the Journaling problem, it also didnt work well on my internal second ATA drive,so....you got it??

I should just shut up about this as it's been done to death and not really that huge a deal for me but i went through something similar in Sonar a couple of versions or so ago and and deeply sympathetic to those experiencing the problem. My guess is there's something deep broken and it will take them a while to fix it. i just don't want it papered over and brushed aside. As to bloat ware, well, yes and no. Logic is the only major that doesn't have a quality audio warp tool. PT's is pretty darn nice, especially if you need to keep phase relations intact over several tracks. Sonar's AudioSnap is incredibly powerful set of tools but makes the user work a bit a bit more. it comes with Izotope's logs included - the one's we pay, what, $300 bucks for? Live is incredible and Steiny's got theirs. Even Reaper, for $50; sheeesh. In this day and age it's a tool that should have been in 8, no two ways about it. While we're at it, audio comping, even even if swiping worked correctly is still pretty weak compared to the others. I use it because it's easy to write on. Let's just hope they fix it. I should be able to run 32 tracks with plenty of plugs at 64 sample latency without breaking a sweat on this machine. As it is I have to go to 256 to record 2 at a time with that track count.
Anyway, you're way ahead on all this and now i will shut up.

  • SYSTEM OVERLOAD SOLUTION! MAYBE...

    Hi guys!
For everybody who are fighting against this annoying problem!
I read about somewhere here, somebody wote about there is a folder:
    Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Midi Drivers
Somebody has drivers there, and somebody dont have.
In this folder i had two drivers: EmagicUSBMIDIDriver.plugin and EMUMIDIDriver.plugin
I dont know these two drivers are necessary or not, - i have EMU USB 0202 soundcard - but i tried, what will happen, if i take out this two drivers, just like that.
I put these files in a safe folder, in case if something problem would come.
This happened: NO MORE SYSTEM OVERLOAD ANYMORE to me!
All the Logic softwers and plugins works fine, no stopping all the time, no system overloads in every 5 seconds.
Also, often the iTunes running, because i always compare my music with another pro music, and no system overload at all!
    =)
Only, when i tried to open Firefox with 12 tabs during playback.
    =)
Try this too, and wrote to here, what is the result!
I hope it will stay, and it will help many other users too!

Two more tips from me: Be sure to NOT have a Software Instrument track selected when playing back. The instrument then is 'ready to be played' and therefore needs more CPU. If you select an audio track, aux track or a frozen SI track, it is easier on the CPU.
Secondly, set all audio tracks to *No Input*. That has ben reliably reported to make a difference too.
Thirdly (bonus) set the *Process Buffer Range* (in the Audio prefs) to Large.
Also, keep in mind that just muting a in the track header doesn't disable anything, the content is still streamed. Only when you mute the regions, the content is left out of the process.

  • IMessage registration on Wind Network - possibly easy solution

Hi everyone who is a Wind Customer as well,
Little disclaimer before I start: I have read parts of the thread that mentions the method where hex code is copied to a website in order to active iMessage on Wind, so if the following was mentioned somewhere in this (long) thread, my apologies in advance.
I tried the method described but couldn't find the Baseband folder on my two Macs (10.7 and 10.8), so shortly before I gave up, I found a Youtube video that suggested that after activating iMessage and the usual wait with no success, to reset the network settings.
I did this (Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings) and voila - iMessage is working now!
The message underneath the switched on iMessage switch (bad English ...) says "Activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again", however, iMessage works!
Please try and let me know if it works for you as well.
Once again, if this was mentioned somewhere already, my apologies. Also: if the other method works for you, good. It didn't work for me, so I am happy I found this solution.

I assume you mean that you have several wireless access points, not wireless routers.
Have your IT Dept disconnect the ethernet cable that connects the Access Point to the main switch or router, and then "tone" the wire to trace it.
    Use one of these:

Another option is to flash the firwmare over the LAN, BUT that will probably default the Access Point to an address already in use and that may create a bigger problem.
