Possible to identify individual drives in an MDD G4?

I'd like to take out two of the internal HDs from my MDD G4 to use them in external FW enclosures I bought at a good price to use them on the MacBook and another machine.
Three of the internal drives are nominally 160 GB and identical to each other, the other one is a nominally 380 GB unit.
Is there a way of telling whether the larger drive is in the top bay or the rear bay without taking out both cages?  Can the System Profiler help me at all?

I know it's not that much of a job, but as clumsy as I am with manual labor, I'd rather just do it once.
Thanks in advance.

LOL !    Give me some credit, dude!  I've been using Macs since the Mac Plus in the mid 1980s and computers since the early 1960s (Siemens and IBM behemoths).  That's pretty much half a century.  I'm not that clueless.
Thank you for the courtesy of your reply, though.  Much appreciated, even if it made me laugh.
Here's my update:
Don't worry. I powered the machine entirely off, pulled the power cable from the back of the machine, and then humbly followed BDAqua's advice.  I disconnected the ribbon cable on the rear bay first, and lo and behold, when I booted the machine back up again that one turned out to be the one with the two drives I wanted.  I pulled them out, replaced the rear-bay sled back into the G4 and powered it back on to test it.  The computer still works flawlessly with the remaining two internal 160 GB hard drives.
I put the 160 GB drive in a FireWire enclosure and it's already functioning as the dedicated primary scratch disk drive for Photoshop 13 ("CS6") on the MacBook.  Made a HUGE difference in the performance of Photoshop on my limited MacBook (not Pro).
The other enclosure turned out to be USB2 only (no FireWire ), but I put the 400 Gb hard drive there and it works just fine too.  I'll get a simple USB2 hub and use it as Time Machine disk on the same MacBook.  For the time being, I'm testing it attached to my G5 Quad, because I ran out of USB ports, as one is feeding a secondary external monitor through a USB adapter/video card, and the other one is used by the keyboard/mouse combo.  Everything checks out OK.  The primary external monitor is being driven by the MacBook's own built-in monitor port.
I doubt there are many users out there running Photoshop 13 on a plain MacBook that's also driving two 22" CRT monitors.
My thanks again to BDAqua.

  • Identify individual elements in repeated elements in an XML document

    Hello,
    I'd like to identify individual elements in repeated elements in an XML document.
    For example a table 'dataXML' which has a column 'sample' (XMLType). If I have an XML document such as,
    <ELEMENT>
    <PO>
    <PONO>100</PONO>
    <PONO>200</PONO>
    </PO>
    </ELEMENT>
    I can use //PONO[1] to identify the first "PONO" element (with value 100) and //PONO[2] to identify the second "PONO" element in the document.
    If I write this query:
    select L.sample.extract('ELEMENT/PO/PONO/text()')).getStringVal()"SAMP"
    from dataXML L
    I'll receive this result:
    SAMP
    100200 (the first row)
    And if I write this query:
    select L.sample.extract('ELEMENT/PO/PONO[1]/text()')).getStringVal()"SAMP"
    from dataXML L
    I'll receive this result:
    SAMP
    100 (the first row)
    But I'd like the following result:
    SAMP
    100 (the first row)
    200 (the second row).
    Could you help me, please?
    Thank you very much.
    Melissa Lemos

    you have to use something like this.
    select extractvalue(xmltype_column, '/Name/@attributename')
    from table_name

  • Is it is possible to identify Heading level, Title, Header, Footer, Paragraph in PDF using SDk or Script

    Hi Friends
                 Is it is possible to identify Heading level, Title, Header, Footer, Paragraph in PDF using SDK or Script

    In an ordinary PDF there is nothing to identify, the information does not exist. Just text at locations, the structure is entirely in the mind of the viewer. For tagged PDFs, yes. This requires a very detailed knowledge of the PDF spec and tagging, and writing a plug-in in C/C++. And of course it requires that the tagging is correct. Since tagging is often added automatically, it is often useless for real structural info. Who thought it was a good idea to tag automatically...!

  • Is it possible to make a driver software for foreign hardwere to see it in MAX?

    Is it possible to make a driver software for foreign hardwere to see it in MAX? I have IoTech GPIB controller and a ni style driver but this instrument si not seen in MAX and can not be operated as VISA instrument (it works in LabView by GPIB write or read icon). I think on such a diploma work for student but do not know if it is possible to do. Please send an advise to [email protected]

    I don't think that the inability of MAX to see the IOTech GPIB card has anything to do with not being able to use VISA. If IOTech supplied a VISA driver for their card, it should work. I would contact tech support at IOTech to see if they can't find a solution to your problem.

    Is it possible to lock individual app like messages, photos etc without jailbreak in io8....?

    No third-party app can do what you want as those apps do not have access to iOS as a whole. They are (for the most part) sandboxed, and cannot directly access other apps.

  • Is it possible to delete iCloud drive from ios8 device

    I updated my iPad to IOS8,  not thinking I said yes to iCloud drive.  I use my iPad to type minutes at a meeting and then complete them on my iMac.  Since I do not have Yosemite yet, if I type on my iPad will I not be able to access the document on my Mac?  I have all my completed documents saved on my mac but will any new ones be lost in space if they are started on the iPad?    Is it possible to delete iCloud drive from the iPad.  I know I can turn it off, but that won't help.  Maybe I will be lucky and Yosemite will come out before my next meeting.  It looks like I could probably email a copy from my iPad to my iMac as a pages doc. and then be able to open it in pages.
    Thanks

    Hi David:
    Thanks.  I see that I could open in icloud pages and I guess work on it there.  I have never worked that way before.  Can you save it back to the mac?  or just to  iCloud?  And I have to send out copies to board members which, I guess, can be done there.  Thanks for your input.  I feel so stupid,;  I even saw the "small print".  Oh well.

  • Possible to have individual iCloud act's but share one for Find My iPhone?

    I have yet to take the plunge (rocket) to iCloud -- too many questions and I haven't figured out all the logistics yet. But here's a big question I have.
    I've seen a lot of threads with recommendations on how to set a family up - most of them involve each iPhone having their own iCloud ID and then sharing one iTunes account for shared music.
    My question. Is it possible to have individual iCloud accounts set up on the individual phones BUT ALSO share an iCloud account for the purposes of Find My iPhone, so we can easily see our phones on one screen?
    If so, how is that done?
    Thanks!

    I don't know the answer to this 100%, but I would recommend downloading Apple's "Find My Friends" App because that will enable you to see all phones on one screen.

    Hello, I am having a macbook air early 2008 and it is having a hard drive failure i need to replace the hard drive is it possible ? the hard drive number is HS082HB could you please help !!

    You can replace it with a solid state drive, see the one OWC sells here.  The video on how to install it is here.
    iFixit.com has used hard drives available here.
    If it were me, I'd go with a solid state drive, as the prices have come down recently and the performance improvement is noticeable.

  • How can I be sure that the back up to my time capsule has backed everything up as when I enter time capsule and interogate the back ups i can't identify individual music or picture files?

    How can I confirm that the back up to my time capsule has backed everything up as when I enter time capsule and interrogate the backs ups I can't identify individual photo or music files?

    You cannot browse a Time Machine backup with the Finder. To restore individual music files or any other files normally available in the Finder, open your Music folder then "Enter Time Machine" using the Time Machine icon.
    Restoring individual photographs is slightly more cumbersome. Apple recommends restoring the entire iPhoto Library, but if you want to locate an individual photograph you could use Time Machine to restore the old Libary. Restore it to an alternate location to avoid overwriting your existing one. Open iPhoto while holding an Option key, open the restored Library, find the photo you need and export it, close iPhoto, re-open it with your usual Library, and import the photo.
    Time Machine depends upon a number of sound engineering principles for reliable operation, one of which is "faith"
    Your files will remain intact until your Time Machine backup device becomes inoperative.

  • Is is possible to sync individual TV shows?

    Anyone know if it's possible to sync individual TV shows, as opposed to the whole folder? With the limited space on the iTouch, seems like there should be a way to select individual TV shows. Anyone? And thanks in advance.

    Just manage all manually, music and videos. This way you can add to and delete from Touch music, videos and TV shows at wish.

  • Identifying SATA drives connected through Seritek PCI card

    Does anyone who has a Seritek or other PCI expansion card to add external SATA drives know of a way to identify which ports are connected to which drives?
    I have a 4-bay external SATA enclosure, and there's no good way to identify which drives are in which bays (short of writing the drive name on the outside of the bay, which I don't want to do since I may well swap out drives). I have the bays numbered, and if I can get those numbers to correspond with the numbers of the 4 ports on the card, I'll have an organised system...
    Will anything in the /dev directory help me?
    Many thanks!
    Matt

    If your card is SiliconImage based (Vendor ID 0x1095) then you'll need to update the drivers.  If you don't know the brand of the card, it doesn't really matter as pretty much any SI based card will work with any brand drivers.Download and install the Sonnet E2P Driver from here http://www.sonnettech.com/support/downloads/software/DSKCD-E2PE342PE_NEW.dmg which should update the SI3132 kext
    Bob's your uncle.  Hope this helps.
    PS otherwise, what vendor ID do you see in the System Profiler?

  • Is it possible to install Thunderbolt driver on my iMac

    is it possible to install Thunderbolt driver on my iMac. For some reason I was provided with a Thunderbolt port which is not connected. I have a Promise Pegasus 6 which I would like to use with my iMac

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5219?viewlocale=en_US#3
    Perhaps you are confusing Thunderbolt with something else? If you're talking about a different computer, I doubt you would have a "not connected" Thunderbolt port. There is no such thing as a Thunderbolt driver. There are drivers for devices (like your Promise Pegasus R6), but Thunderbolt isn't a device. It's a communication interface.
