Post-Upgrade Mail Problems
After upgrading on both a Mac Pro and MacBook Pro I encountered several problems with Mail.
On MacBook Pro:
Unable to receive email for certain accounts
Was able to delete the offending accounts and add them and this solved the problem.
On Mac Pro:
Unable to receive email for certain accounts
Am unable to add accounts. When going through either File: Add Account... or Preferences the result is the same: nothing happens when Add Account... is selected or the + in Preferences is selected.
I've been working with Apple Support and had them remote access the desktop and they seem to be scratching their heads. Thought I would try here and see if anyone else has not been able to get the File: Add Account... window to appear and how the problem was fixed. I had no problems whatsoever with Mail prior to the upgrade.

I updated a 10.6.4 server to 10.6.5.
The server is open directory master, and yes, there were huge problems with the following symptoms :
- LDAP server broken
- directory services process using more than 100% cpu
If I checked a directory services log, there was the following error :
Misconfiguration detected in hash 'Global SID'
Group 'com.apple.sharepoint.group.5' (/Local/Default) - ID 406
Group 'com.apple.accessremoteae' (/Local/Default) - ID 406
So there was a duplicate not in the LDAP configuration but in the local users directory : a duplicate of ID 406.
As I didn't have time to restore all server from backup, I was able to delete the duplicate ID, restore directory services from backup, and then it came back to normal.
Other services were not touche, but I don't use email services.
DNS was not broken.

Ok so after getting this upgrade I found that one of my Exchange outlook mail accounts was no longer working. It keeps asking for the website to be added as I do not have permission (I am not the administrator on my account).
Does anyone else have this problem?
How can I fix it and get mail?Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the problems still occur?

Ios 5.0 post-upgrade setting problems
This evening I updated the software to IOS 5.0 on my iphone 4S, which all seemed to go ok, however when the Syncing/Restoring of the iPhone had finished - it asked me to go through some final stages of set up on the iphone itself. Howevver nearly every selection I made in the options, would NOT allow me to select 'NEXT' to finish these settings. Very odd.
When i select the big button on the phone, it gives me the options for Emergency Calls; Restore Factory Settings; and another option (that I can't remember)
What should I do now!?????
Please help me as soon as is possible, since I'm full of cold and need to go to bed!

Mail problems after upgrading to Leopard 10.5.6
To day I upgraded my daughter's MacBook to Leopard 10.5.6 (from about 10.3 ?)
During the install the only problem was at the very end, the configuration wizard failed to make connection with the internet because Airport had lost the password for my wireless router. Once this had been reinserted we had instant internet connection, but by then I had closed the wizard.
Everything else went well except for Mail, the most important application!
When you click on Mail in the docking area it appears in the bar at the top of the screen but no window opens. To get one open we had to click on file> new viewer window. But this window was blank. Clicking on get new mail did nothing. No emails of any kind were visible. Checking the account details showed that they had transferred correctly, and the diagnostic window showed that it was connecting to the server and logging into the IMAP mail account OK.
Rebooting the Mac did not help.
The Mail program has to be forced to shut down, it won't exit gracefully.
I could not get it to send a message either, click "send" and it just sat there spinning its wheels.
At no point did we get any error messages.
We took a backup of the entire system to an external USB drive before the upgrade and all the files associated with Mail appear to be in the same place as before. There still seem to be hundreds of emails on file, we just can't see them. Clicking on one of there email files does nothing.
Is this a known problem? Is there some new feature of Mail we are not using? Has Mail failed to upgrade correctly? Any ideas how to fix this?
I've just found a note on theappleblog.com that suggests that Mailbox > Rebuild will solve this problem, but on this machine "Rebuild" is greyed out.Hi,
Please note that this upgrade related problem would very likely be what has been covered by the support document at the link below:

If you also find any files named to include MessageSorting (which would mean you once have upgraded from a version of OSX earlier than 10.4, which is clearly the case for you), remove those, also, but never restore those.
Often this is all that needs to be done, but you might then need to force an overall reindexing via the removal of the Envelope Index. Note the special instructions when forcing the reindexing of IMAP or Exchange accounts in the following:

This will force the reindexing of all the POP mailboxes and all On My Mac mailboxes. With regard to any IMAP accounts if you have any, the practical result of this action of removing the account folder, is that with the IMAP account still set up in the Preferences, Mail will connect to the IMAP server and create a new account folder, and while doing so will index the messages in the mailbox folders of the IMAP accounts on the server.

Upgrade install to 10.5 Mail problems solution
Ok, I am posting this after 2 days of research why Mail behaves crazily after I installed 10.5 via update. I tried archive and install as well with same Mail problems resulting.
Now maybe this wont work for everybody, but it solved all my problems like a charm resulting in Mail working perfectly now.
After one whole annoying day behind the forums I just thought I should post it.
The basic problem was that my Mail didn't want to receive messages while the progress bars were just spinning infinite. Quitting Mail had to be done via Force Quite to stop it.
First thing i noticed was that if I open "*Previous recipients*" panel I get the everlasting spinning beach ball.
So I gathered that there must be some problem in the communication between Mail and Address Book. I backuped the Address Book database and deleted everything I could find connected with Address Book.
Next step was going to Mail folder in my User Library where I deleted all mailboxes .plists and mails because I had some messages I couldn't delete in Mail app. I also deleted other .plist files.
Then I reinstalled Address Book via additional install and rebooted the machine.
Address Book now contained no addresses. I opened Mail, and bingo everything started working, opening "previous recipients" showed 0 contacts and I starter using Mail without problems.
To finish the thing, just backup Address Book ad voila.
Now, maybe that won't sort out everybody's problem, but it sure did mine. And I had all Mail problems described on this forum while sing Mail.

Same thing here. All printers gone. Archive & Install 10.5 on a 2.33Ghz MBP. Cannot find my network printers. Tried everything I can think of. When I boot from my external drive (10.4.9) everything works great. Leopard also ate my company VPN and won't give it back. Any help would be welcome. -
Post Mavericks Upgrade Speed Problems
I would appreciate it greatly if someone would be kind enough to review my etrcheck scan and help me determine which processes are causing response problems and occasional hangs. I was able to "repair" a recent Mail problem by (1) installing the recent mail update to help with Gmail and (2) completely uninstalling SpamSieve and then reinstalling it. I also installed the script to speed up the way SpamSieve hanfles trained "spam" messages.
Nevertheless, Activity Monitor shows occasional non-responsive processes--especially Google related-- and I thought a scan by others would be a good way to get fresh eyes on identifying other problems.

Techtool Pro also causes problems for some. Un-install using the developer’s instructions to make sure you remove all parts of the application. Some people recommend not installing an application unless you know how to remove it. -
Pertaining Watches thread in Post Upgrade Problems Forum
I have posted a question pertaining the watches, I'm not able to see the red indicator nor receiving e-mail.

I didn't see your reply and now the threads are read only, so I had no other choice but to post here.
The threads I watch I am able to see them in the "Watches" in my Control Panel but I do not see the red indicator and I do not receive watches e-mail.

TonyThe watch e-mails have stopped since the first couple of days of the upgrade, back than I thought they were off, so I waited, but noticed no one was talking about it.
I checked my mailbox today and I saw a whole bunch of watch mails, some from Sunday 23 November and dated way back till 27 October, but none for this thread. It's weird, there are watch-mails for some threads and not for others.
Have you guys uploaded anything??
I haven't change the mail address from the control panel, at least not after the upgrade, but I might have edited that profile page to make sure of my handle, there were cases where the e-mail address was showing instead of the handle at post upgrade.
However I would want to change the e-mail where I receive the watch mails as soon as they start working.
oh! one more thing, I still don't see the red indicators for watches on thread list in the forums.

SBA 8.0 (Hor) to SBA 8.0 (Ver) Industry Application Post Upgrade Problem!
Hi All,
I am testing out an upgrade from Siebel 8.0 (Horizontal) to Siebel 8.0 (Vertical) version.
Post upgrade after GUI Fixes, i did a full compile of siebel_sia.srf!
But, after i start my Siebel Services & try to access the Sales or High Tech Manufacturing Application, it doesnt come up.
The log file for both says:

Any idea why this is happening? The SRF file exists on the correct location & i dont see any other application accessing the same.

Check that the new Siebel application is shut down properly and has no "dangling" processes before restart. -
Element v.11 & 9 Photo mail problem with MS Outlook
Looking for a fix: Elements v.11 has a photo mail problem with Microsoft Outlook mail, even when Outlook is designated the defaul e-mail program in Windows internet.

i've been having some major mac Mail problems for a while now, with no clear understanding on how to resolve them. It may be the case that i am managing my mail all wrong, so any correctional advice would be welcome too.
I receive a lot of graphics pic files through from work as well as sending them, so for me it is relatively important that i keep a lot of the emails over the past 6 months to a year on my machine. When i say a lot it might only actually be a 3mb jpeg pic a day.
Anyway, a while ago i started to get this message come up when tried to access new email
"...The message from "Mr X" <[email protected]> concerning “Emailing: xxxx.jpg ” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
This seemed to happen for a lot of the emails, even ones that didn't have any attatchments to them. I posted here a good while ago about it, and discovered from someone else that quitting mac Mail, and then opening it again at the email that you just quit from, would open the particualr email you wished to see!!!!!
I've been doing this process for a while now, but find it to be very irritating. Over the period of this problem, i have wiped my machine, and reinstalled OSX, hoping that it would sort this out, but with no luck.
Now i have to admit, that i don't really understand the whole mail server thing. I would have thought that any past mail i download is then stored onto my mac, enabling me to access it any time, so long as it is there in my mailbox. Also, i have backed up mailboxes, a few times, but agin this dis not seem to solve the problem.
Today, the Mail decided to do it's own backup process, so i left it to it. It cleared my mailbox and left my with 300 random emails left. I needed to access some of the past few weeks emails, so then had to re-import the backup mailbox containing something ridiculous like 7000 emails!
when i click on one of them, it requires that i "You need to take this account online in order to download it." but then i quit the application and then open it again, and it's there!!!
If anyone can help me with this i'd be most grateful as it's driving me up the wall! Even some helpfull tips in maintaining a healthy mailbox would be welcome.

AstroBhoyThis incorrect error message indicates an "overstuffed" mailbox issue which means the mailbox has approached or exceeded the recommended size limit or has some corruption.
All email clients have limits and the recommended mailbox size limit for Jaguar and Panther Mail is 1 GB and for Tiger Mail, 2 GB. This problem is much more common with Jaguar and Panther Mail and has all but been eliminated with Tiger Mail which uses a significantly different mbox filing structure for each mailbox.
An "overstuffed" mailbox issue can occur at any mailbox size with Jaguar or Panther Mail but is more likely to occur depending on the number and size of message attachments contained in a mailbox and especially as a mailbox approaches or exceeds 1 GB in size.
Since you regularly receive and send a lot of graphic file attachments, you should utilize user created "On My Mac" location mailboxes to sort received and sent messages by category. This can be done on a monthly basis with the emphasis on not allowing a mailbox to approach or exceed anywhere near 1 GB in size and it is also a good idea to use the Rebuild Mailbox function on the most active mailboxes on a regular basis - once a month or so depending on activity.
Before upgrading to Tiger, I didn't allow any mailbox to exceed 500 MB or so in size and used the Rebuild Mailboxes function on the most active mailboxes once a month or so and never experienced this problem.
Regarding the problem with this account's Inbox mailbox, quit Mail first and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > INBOX.mbox.
Move the INBOX.mbox to the Desktop.
When re-launching Mail, a new and empty INBOX.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder. This will allow the Mail.app to function properly again with this mailbox and not risk losing any new messages received with this account while working on the old INBOX.mbox moved to the Desktop to recover the existing messages.
Control-click on the old INBOX.mbox moved to the Desktop and at the menu window that appears, select Show Package Contents.
List the package content file names and size of each providing this information here. This information is required to determine the next steps to take to recover the existing messages. -
Fixing iPhone mail problems in IOS 7

I am certain my mailbox names match those on my AOL server, that AOL preferences are set so all mail is saved on the server and my iPhone (4) settings are to retrieve mail from the server, not my iPhone. I have matched the settings on my problem iPhone with my second iPhone that, after upgrading to IOS 7, works perfectly using the same AOL mail account. I have deleted the mail account on the problematic iPhone and set it back up. I have restored the iPhone to factory settings, updated it with my setting from a backup and re-synced my personal data. I do not sync with iCloud because mail syncs well through WiFi or through iTunes. Anyone with similiar mail problems who can suggest fixes that work would be most appreciated. Thank you.Additional information: i decided to delete both of my iPhone mail accounts and re-enter them using the automated setup in Settings . . . neither account would load because of an error message that the outgoing IMAP server was incorrect. I went to AOL and got the IMAP server "in" and "out" settings but when I tried to enter the correct number, I discovered you can't change it (grayed out). Catch 22 - When setting up the account, iPhone assigns an AOL primary outgoing server number after you identify the @aol.com address, and you can't change it. It is not the one AOL said to use. (Is this the IOS 7 software error that might be causing the problem???) I set up the phones manually again, with the phone automatically entering the outgoing server number, but got a a different error message that I may not be able to send or receive mail. I was able to enter the correct outgoing server number ONLY when I added an additional outgoing server. It lets you enter the server number. Seems when there is a primary outgoing server (the iPhone assigned number) and a backup (one I entered with the correct number) both phones work! I know, complicated! Finallly, I suspected this is all about mailbox behavior on OS X and ISO devices and the problem is likely specific to just AOL accounts so I mapped where mail goes after being sent on all devices . . . interesting. As I suspect, sent mail goes to different mailboxes on OS X devices and ISO devices, so you have to go look for them. They are there, but in different locations. I may have to live with that. Anyone else dealing with this?

After Mavericks upgrade Mail 7 not automatically fetching new emails

Since the Mavericks upgrade, Mail is not anymore automatically fetching new emails, but at the initial lauch.
I tried to modifity the settings, from 'Automatic', to 5 minute, to 15 minutes, stopping Mail and starting again each time but it does not help.
Emails are fetched only after the lauch of Mail, and when I manually ask Mail to do it.
It's really annoying.
I saw on French forums, that I'm not the only user reporting this, but I don't see many posts on the Apple forum with the exact same issue.
I don't know what to do to fix/find a workround for this problem.
If someone has any idea, I'm more than open to try it.Try this workaround until Apple fixes it.

1. Only super user can access this /n/ASU/START
2. All the obligatory executable tasks are automatically performed by the system automatically during upgrade. SAPADM. Only errors (if any) are to be corrected.
3. Some of the tasks are only to go through some SAP notes as a precaution before upgrade.
4. Execute all the checks /n/ASU/UPGRADE
5. This surely can be skipped, but not advisable.

E71 E-Mail Key and Related Mail Problems
Since my E71 was updated to the latest firmware (at a Nokia Service Center) around 6 months ago I have had a number of odd mail problems, which manifest themselves as follows:
After an initial boot everything with mail and messaging works fine as expected. However at least once or twice a day the phone switches unpredictably into an odd mode with the following symptoms:
1) E-Mail key stops responding to short or long presses.
2) New e-mails and sms messages which arrive do not appear on the home screen as usual, though they may (or may not) appear as small icons in the top right corner of the screen.
3) For new e-mails only the title/header is downloaded, whereas usually I have it set to automatically download the first 2 K of each message.
4) New messages still appear as 'unread' even after reading them. Manually setting them to 'read' works, but only after a long delay.
5) The flashing navigation key light which warns of new messages/mails gets stuck in flashing mode and will not stop until the phone is rebooted.
Problems 1-3 occur every time, and 4&5 occasionally, but all can only be cured by rebooting the phone, after which it works fine again - for a while.
Since I first saw this problem I have updated the firmware twice (it is currently on the latest version), but the problem persists. I wonder if anyone has seen this problem or has any idea how to fix it? It's a great irritation with an otherwise excellent phone, especially since it was all working fine when I first purchased it. Thanks for any comments or suggestionsFor anyone who is interested, I've found the answer to my own question, though not the solution to my problem. After several days playing with mail settings I noticed that when Retrieval settings > E-mail to retrieve is set to 'Headers only' or ' Msgs & attachs', there is no problem. However, if it is set to 'Size limit' with a setting of say 2K or 5K (i.e. just enough to capture the first few important paragraphs of any message) then receipt of many types of formatted mails larger than the specified size causes the mail program to crash, and the OS to switch into the odd mode described in my earlier post.
This is particularly irritating since I travel frequently overseas in Asia where roaming GSM data use is expensive (and there are no caps or limits on roaming fees), and due to the nature of my work my e-mails typically come with long threads and large attachments. Therefore I am left with the choice between:
A) Downloading mail headers only and waiting till I can find a WiFi connection to find out what the message actually says
B) Downloading the whole message and paying many hundreds of dollars a month in data roaming fees
C) Using the fixed mail size limit setting and accept that my mail program will crash several times a day and
require the phone to be rebooted each time to restore normal functionality
Anyway, it seem this problem is clearly due a bug with the Nokia mail software in recent builds, since it worked fine with these exact same settings for the first year I had the phone, and repeated clean re-installs of the latest firmware do not fix the problem. Therefore, if any Nokia developers are monitoring this board you can add this to your bug list, and you know where to start looking for the bad bit of code.
