Holding the power button down regularly is likely to cause problems, then you will need it, so don't.
If you think there is a mechanical or electrical issue with your Mac the Apple Store is the right place, but please stop with the power button

Any ideas? how long is warranty?

The standard warranty is one-year. Yu can purchase, before the one-year is up and additional year. Yu can check your coverage here:

  • Power button not working with 7.1 update

Power button not working with 7.1 update

I take it your phone was still under warranty then?!
Unfortunately I was not so lucky, and my experience was rather poor service-wise. They're called Apple Geniuses but I beg to differ...
I'm not sure where in the world you are located, but my "experience" involved visiting the Leeds store and confusing everyone with this issue. I can tell you, just by the looks on their faces, they had never been faced with this problem before!
I suggested my phone was rolled back to the version it was previously to establish whether this was the underlying issue. I was asked whether my phone had been backed up and as it had the "genius" proceeded to restore the phone "as it came out of the factory" to quote him.
When this was completed the phone was still doing the same thing and I was advised "the software update must have highlighted a hardware issue." I was told it would have to be physically repaired and was told to have this done by a third party as Apple would charge approximately £160. Incidentally, I work in IT and repair PC's, laptops and mobile devices for a living and made a point of raising that a sleep/wake button ribbon cable for an iPhone 4S can be bought on eBay for as little as £3.00...if indeed it does need replacing, which I suspect it does not.
Anyway, so now I was left with a phone for the rest of the day which was blank and still the problem remained. On the train, on the way home, you can then imagine my disbelief when I actually took the time to look at my phone's configuration and realised that iOS version 7.1 was still installed, so obviously the issue would still remain. So the visit to the "genius bar" was a complete waste of time as I'm still in the very same position, and I still blame the 7.1 update for this...let's home 7.2 is released very shortly and this solves the issue...
I have downloaded the package to roll the version back to 7.0 but I'm a little reluctant to carry this out yet as I would expect Apple to so the issue they have caused. This is NOT hardware related but software.
I seriously think Android is calling me...

  • HT1688 Power button not working

Power button not working on iPhone 5

This is a defect on iPhone 5 power button that wears out in about 13-14 months of usage just after you go out of warranty. Apple is aware of this issue but chooses not to accept this as a defect. I asked the Genius bar guy and they told me this is a common case recently and costs $269 to replace your phone. There is no repair option. I am very mad and believe Apple needs to take action or will lose their customers. All iPhone 5 owners that I know started having this problem in the month of 13 -14.
I believe if the numbers go high, Apple may start a recall program. Please encourage anyone with this problem to post here. $700 phone should not wear out this soon. Apparently the part is defective on almost all iPhone 5 devices.

  • Power button not working consistently

Have owned my Macbook Air 13" for almost a year.  Over the last few months, I've had some issues with the power button when in standby mode.   I think this happened even before I updated to OS X Yosemite.  Sometimes when I go to turn my computer on, the button is  completely unresponsive.  I have to press the button over and over again.  Sometimes I hold it down firmly and it turns on, other times it seems to turn on after a light touch.  Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?  Thanks-

    Post relates to: Tungsten E2
Just an FYI Laura - you can press any of the hard buttons on your Palm and it will turn on.   Many of try to avoid using the fragile power button, choosing instead to use a hard button to turn on, and the normal timeout to turn off.

  • Iphone 5 power button NOT Working anymore.

The power button of my Iphone 5 is not working properly. What i mean by that is i have to push the power button REALLY REALLY hard to get it to work. I am worndering can i take it to Apple and have them replace it for me? I had have my Iphone 5 for a little more then a year and my warrenty is out of date. Anyone kno if i can still get a replacement?  Bought the iphone5 couple of months after it came out, full price out the door and using it for T-mobile

I have been experiencing the exact same issue...it will work sometimes and other times I have to press it multiple times or extremely hard.
There is a hardware warranty that should still be in effect for you...definitely worth calling about ASAP.
Apparently there is 90 days left on mine, and I bought my iPhone 5 the week it was released.
They said to definitely bring it into the Apple store and as it is a hardware issue they are replacing it....i will let you know the official outcome after my Genius appointment.

  • Power Button not working on my Zen Mi

Hi, recently bought a Zen Micro 6GB off Ebay, was brand new, not second hand, unit was fine for month or two until now, the power button isnt working at all. So the only way i can turn the unit on is to plug it into my USB port or to use my charger.
Any ideas why it might not be working?
Ive reloaded the latest firmware/bought a new battery/formatted the player (firmware upgrade wiped player) but nothing seems to fix it. Ive not dropped it at all, the problem occured when the player had just been left on a table, no-one had touched it for a day or two and it just decided it didnt wanna work anymore.
I can still use the player but i have to constantly leave it on incase im somewhere without access to a USB port or charger.
Oh yeah and because the power button doesnt work i cant get into the recovery mode (as u know you have to hold the power button on)
    So....any ideas whats wrong?
And will i be able to get a replacement from creative...although i bought it off ebay? I know i wont be able to get a refund or anythin off the ebayer coz its not really their problem.

  • Power button not working - officejet pro 8600 +

    Hi,
I just find this problem today (after 1 year of using my officejet pro 8600+) but maybe, it's normal ....
When the control panel is opened, the light on the power button is off and the power button stops working (not possible tu turn the printer on or off) but when the control panel is closed, the power button works as expected !! is this normal ?? I just find this issue today.
    Thanks for any answer,
    sincerly,
    Domi.

Could you provide a few more details?  Do you mean the control panel on your computer?  How is the printer connected - Wireless LAN, LAN or USB?
I have never noticed this with mine, but I usually leave the printer on all the time and let the power saving put it to sleep automatically when not in use.

  • Button not working properly.

Hi I bought my new HP Envy k112tx its capslock button is not working properly when pressed softly. It has to be pressed hard so that it could work, Its minor. What should i do?.

if it's not bugging you then you can safely just leave it, there is a small risk of causing damage to the keyboard though. If you contact HP they may be able to replace the keyboard for you unless it's less than 30 days old then you should be able to return it for a replacement unit, you'll still need to contact HP first though cause that's where the retailer will refer you to straight away
