Power on button not working on Compaq CQ57-229 WM Notebook after shut down

My Compaq Presario CQ57-229WM Notebook PC power on/off button is not working properly.  When I shut down computer, the power light stays on.  I have to remove the battery to get the power light to turn off, then it turns back on and i can restart computer.  If i have the battery removed, and just plugged into power strip, i have to remove the power cord to get the light to turn off then to turn back on to restart computer.  the operating system iw Windows Hoem 7-64 bit.

So you are turning it off with the hardware on-off switch? Go into power options in the control panel and click "choose what the power button does"...what does it say? Generally you want to turn it off with software and by that I mean the Windows key on the keyboard then choose shut down from the popup menu. You may have it set to sleep or  hibernate when you hit the power button.

my power mac g4 was working fine i hit a key and it shut down and know it has a symble floting around the screen like the firewirs symble and ot wont turn back on how do i fix it

It does sound like the T key is stuck.
One way to test to see if the keyboard is at fault is to disconnect the keyboard, then start up the Mac.
Note - on that model, you can force a shutdown by holding in the power button (the one on the front panel of the machine) for 8 to 10 seconds.
You can also force a restart by pressing the small convex (bulges out slightly) button under the power button on the front panel (it's the one on the left).

  • Camera not working since recent update of itunes in November-shuts down pho

Everytime I try to use my camera it either shuts down my phone or says I don't have enough room for pictures (which I know I do-because I have had many more-and I have deleted thirty pictures). Also my phone one day just would not turn on for a while after the update. Help!! I use the camera all the time and this is frustrating. any ideas? The screen looks funny after the I click camera and then it shuts down. I tried powering down and reseting.

Did you try a real reboot, not just turning off and on (totally different things)
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.

  • Power/lock button not working, function moved to volume up

I just had my phone revived after water damage (so I'm half part on taking it to SCS because i read that the warranty will be voided if the LDI has changed its colors). Now everything is working except for the backlight flickering when auto light adjust is on especially when the backlight is low. And the other one which is serious.   The power button is not functioning at all. And I discovered that when pressing the volume up, the volume would increase but after a very very short delay, the turn off/airplane mode selections would appear which would only appear when the power button would be long pressed right? And when the screen has gone to sleep, the volume up would also unsleep the screen.
The worst part. I can't let my phone dead battery, cause it automatically turns on and the hard reset button on the sim slot has no effect on it. But the power+volume up combo trick works, but the thing is, you only need to click the volume up for this to happen. Is there any quick or permanent fix for this before I go to the SCS, I'm afraid they will void the warranty of my phone and pay for a fix price cause I don't have the money.

  • POWL (POWER Lists) Buttons not working.

    Hi,
We downloaded business package Business Package for Maintenance Technician 1.2. With this BP we got a iView called "Maintenance Tasks" which is an iView based on POWL "OPS-MT-POWL". This POWL displays list of maintenance orders and it got several buttons on it like 'Chage order' , 'Display order' etc.
The issue is when I press on any of this buttons nothing happens. I tried to debugged method implementation IF_POWL_FEEDER~HANDLE_ACTION of class CL_RPLM_QIMT_POWL_ORDER_PM. It is properly preparing all the application parameters and passing the same to the DO_PORTAL_FOLLOW_UP of class CL_POWL_UTIL which in turn calls cl_wdr_portal_event=>new_object_navigation_event with resolving_mode = 'SourceRole'. This is using OBN(Portal Object Based Navigation) and respective business object is "Maintenance Order" and operation is "Display_Transaction". A correct iView has been assigned to this operation.
But proper portal integration event is not fired and respective iView(Display Order) is not being called.
Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bharat Vaka.

    Hi Sumangala,
Thank you for your response. Portal package is good, all the required iViews are there and also I did the config according to the note you gave. But the main issue in my case is Siteminder and Apache server.  Luckily today I showed the issue to our BASIS/Portal admin guy over here and he said that it is the issue with Siteminder s/w that deals with the portal security. I need to yet get more details on this and will update you once I get them. Now we know what is the actual issue.
    Thanks again for your response.
    Regards,
    Bharat Vaka.

The standard warranty is one-year. Yu can purchase, before the one-year is up and additional year. Yu can check your coverage here:

  • Power button not working with 7.1 update

Power button not working with 7.1 update

I take it your phone was still under warranty then?!
Unfortunately I was not so lucky, and my experience was rather poor service-wise. They're called Apple Geniuses but I beg to differ...
I'm not sure where in the world you are located, but my "experience" involved visiting the Leeds store and confusing everyone with this issue. I can tell you, just by the looks on their faces, they had never been faced with this problem before!
I suggested my phone was rolled back to the version it was previously to establish whether this was the underlying issue. I was asked whether my phone had been backed up and as it had the "genius" proceeded to restore the phone "as it came out of the factory" to quote him.
When this was completed the phone was still doing the same thing and I was advised "the software update must have highlighted a hardware issue." I was told it would have to be physically repaired and was told to have this done by a third party as Apple would charge approximately £160. Incidentally, I work in IT and repair PC's, laptops and mobile devices for a living and made a point of raising that a sleep/wake button ribbon cable for an iPhone 4S can be bought on eBay for as little as £3.00...if indeed it does need replacing, which I suspect it does not.
Anyway, so now I was left with a phone for the rest of the day which was blank and still the problem remained. On the train, on the way home, you can then imagine my disbelief when I actually took the time to look at my phone's configuration and realised that iOS version 7.1 was still installed, so obviously the issue would still remain. So the visit to the "genius bar" was a complete waste of time as I'm still in the very same position, and I still blame the 7.1 update for this...let's home 7.2 is released very shortly and this solves the issue...
I have downloaded the package to roll the version back to 7.0 but I'm a little reluctant to carry this out yet as I would expect Apple to so the issue they have caused. This is NOT hardware related but software.
I seriously think Android is calling me...

  • HT1688 Power button not working

Power button not working on iPhone 5

This is a defect on iPhone 5 power button that wears out in about 13-14 months of usage just after you go out of warranty. Apple is aware of this issue but chooses not to accept this as a defect. I asked the Genius bar guy and they told me this is a common case recently and costs $269 to replace your phone. There is no repair option. I am very mad and believe Apple needs to take action or will lose their customers. All iPhone 5 owners that I know started having this problem in the month of 13 -14.
I believe if the numbers go high, Apple may start a recall program. Please encourage anyone with this problem to post here. $700 phone should not wear out this soon. Apparently the part is defective on almost all iPhone 5 devices.

    Try:

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Edit: and they don't know how to use a search engine.
There is also the fact that functionality is removed. So I did pay attention, read the new man page and still had a question because I wondered if that functionality might be been moved elsewhere rather than removed. It is hard to be certain you've proved a negative and systemd has a lot of different man pages and puts things in a lot of different places.
Of course, it may well be that people also don't pay attention...

  • Iphone 4 volume buttons not working

iphone 4 volume and mute buttons not working, checked all settings they are all fine and when headphones in it works??? When I take out headphones the volum buttons do not work, when phone rings or text receives only vibrates???? HELP!!!!

This could be due to some debris or dirt inside the  headphones jack that makes the iPhone think that the headphones are connected even when they are not.
Try to see if you can clean the jack being very careful, with canned air as sold in electronics store.  Some people have been successful by introducing and withdrawing the headphones jack several times in a row to displace whatever is in there if it is lodged in.
Avoid introducing anything else like a pointed object.  You could damage the jack.
If all of this does not work, I would try first resetting the phone by holding the home button and the power button together for about 15 seconds or until the whilte apple appears, then waiting until the phone resets.  If the problem continues after this, take it to an Apple Store to see what they believe should be done.
