Power on MacBook Pro takes me to login screen. All user icons appear as normal. Once I enter password for myself (administrator) spinning takes longer than normal and doesn't log in but displays a no sign (circle w line through it) when attempting to login from guest account it takes me to screen that says that the computer will restart to a safe safari system for the guest user. I waited for a longer time and the grey denim screen comes up. By the apple in left upper corner it said I think LSA? Then safari menu bar. The page it loads to us file:///System/Installation/CDIS/Mac%2005%20X%20Utilities.app/Contents/Resource s/English.iproj/GuestLoginInfirmation.html
Can someone HELP? I'm afraid I might do something wrong

  • MacBook pro takes more than 10 minutes to start with ML ?

My Macbook pro takes more than 10 minutes to start. I press Start and it takes more than 10 minutes before I can enter my password. Need your help !

Sounds like time for a PRAM reset. Here's how:
    1. Power down the machine.
    2. Locate the following keys on your keyboard in preparation for Step 4:
    ‘command’ – ‘option’ – ‘P’ – ‘R’
    3. Press the ‘power on’ button.
    4. Immediately – and before the grey screen appears – hold down ‘command-option-P-R’ all together.
    5. Keep them held down until you’ve heard the start-up chime twice. After you release them you should hear it again, and hopefully your Mac will boot up as normal.

  • Macbook pro takes long to boot up 30 minutes

    Hi all,
First of all, thanks for all the help this community has provided so far.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a solution so far.
    Product:
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010)
    OS X 10.6.8
    2.4GHz Intel core 2 duo
    4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
It is quite old, but for no reason, the performance is going downhill and every day is taking longer to boot or work with it.
The spinning ball appears after every action and it takes more than 30 minutes to boot (I'm now writing from a different laptop as it has become practically unusable). Good news is I did backup everything when it started performing poorly.
    Actions so far:
Apple Hardware extended Test, run 3 times, no errors.
    Check disk errors: no errors
Check and fix disk permissions: no improvement
    I'm running out of ideas...
Obviously, it has been long time out of warranty, and I'm not sure is worth an expensive fix as I know I have to replace it soon.
I would like to keep it as a secondary laptop.
Do you have any ideas about tests I haven't run?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Macbook Pro takes long time to wake from sleep

Hi, I have recently purchased the latest Macbook Pro (Mid-2012, not the Retina display version), and I've noticed if the Macbook is left switched on, with the lid down and not plugged into the mains, it will take a long time to wake from sleep. I've looked for similar posts, and everyone describes it as a long delay, but for me the screen is greyed out (but transparent) and a process bar appears, which fills up and then the display loads properly, but it takes a further 30-50 seconds to activate things like the mouse and wifi etc (it feels like it has completely frozen).
Has anyone experienced this and is it normal? I looked up standby mode, but am led to believe this is only with the retina display models, so am a bit worried.

    Hi Thumbnut,
This article may help explain what is going on:
Mac computers: Progress bar appears after waking from sleep

    I hope this helps!

  • Macbook Pro takes long to boot up, Freezes easily, Gets Gray Screen saying restart

I've had my Macbook Pro 13 since November 2010, I am still running Snow Leopard, never upgraded or anything. Since last March, my computer takes a long time to turn on, get to the screen where I log in. If I click anything when it gets to the screen right away, I can't click anything, the mouse moves, but nothing responds. I have to wait a good 15-20 minutes before I can click anything. I usually turn my computer on, and leave, come back 25-30 minutes later, and log in. When I have over 3 applications open, ex Firefox, MS Word, Spotify, my computer lags, and sometimes freezes. The freezes last from 30 seconds, to me having to restart the computer. Sometimes the computer freezes randomly when I'm just browsing. Around 70-80% of the time, when I play a video, using flash player like youtube, my computer lags, and after watching a video or 2, the computer freezes. Most of the time, the freeze stays frozen, and around 10 minutes later my mouse can move, but the screen is frozen, and the rainbow loading symbol starts. I just restart the computer. Sometimes, around once every 2 days, or sometimes it happens around 10 times in a couple of hours of me using the computer, my computer gets a gray screen that descends down the screen, it says in multiple languages that I have to immediately restart my computer by pressing the power button down and then pressing it again. Oh, and the bottom of my computer always gets really really hot when I use it.
It is a huge hassle, I can still use the computer, but I would love it if my computer was fixed.

I am still running Snow Leopard, never upgraded or anything.
What about updates?  Check software update.
How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?
Shut down your computer and disconnect all peripherals (keyboard & mouse if pertinent) from your computer.  Now reboot.
If the Mac starts up normally, shut it down again and then plug in one of the peripherals (keyboard or mouse first) and start up your computer again.  If it does so successfully repeat the process, adding one peripheral at a time until your Mac acts up.  At that point, disconnect the last peripheral you added, reboot your Mac and search the peripheral vendor's website for an updated driver.
If no driver exists or the problem remain after installing the new driver, try a different cable or a different port on your Mac.
If none of the above works, again disconnect all peripherals from your Mac, hold down the "shift" key to start up in "Safe Boot" mode.
If the Mac starts up correctly, restart without pressing the "shift" key.
If your computer still does not start up properly, shut it down and restart it while holding down the Apple+Option-P-R keys; keep holding "all 4 keys" down until you hear the startup sound "twice."
If none of the above work Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
(If Disk Utility cannot repair, you will need a stronger utility (3rd party) - Diskwarrior or Techtool PRO)
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
    Remove any 3rd party ram.
Reinstall Snow Leopard - This will install a "fresh" copy of Snow Leopard without archiving old system files but leaves the rest of your files in place.
Oh, and the bottom of my computer always gets really really hot when I use it.
User Tip:  How to deal with MacBook Pro and MacBook heat?
Per your user manual: Do not operate your MacBook Pro on a pillow or other soft material, as the material can block the airflow vents. Never place anything over the keyboard when operating your MacBook Pro. Never push objects into the ventilation openings.
From MacBook Pro: Care, Use, and Safety Information
For prolonged use, place your MacBook Pro on a flat, stable surface. Do not place your MacBook Pro on your lap or other body surface for extended periods of time. Prolonged body contact can cause discomfort and potentially a burn.

  • Macbook Pro stuck at the login screen

This morning I dropped my laptop by catching the charging cable the laptop fell on the floor but everything seemed to be normal.
I then decided to back up straight away so I started time machine. I stupidly started doing some user instensive things on my mac whilst this was going on e.g. playing a game which can sometimes crash. When it did crash I left it for half an hour or so to see if it would bring up force quit or switch out of the crashed programme. This didn't happen so, like i've done in the past, I hard reset holding down the power button.
When I turned on the mac everything seemed normal I got to the login screen and it offered to startup the computer as it was before I restarted. This was a bit odd as I normally get this message when i've actually logged in. My Backup drive also asked for a password which was also strange for the same reason. I then attempted to login to the computer I typed my password in. It was accepted and the screen went white and then went back to the login screen.
I repeated this a few times, restarting etc before I tried using disk utility in recovery mode. When verifying the disk no problems were found. Disk permissions found two problems, which unfortunately I can't remember (1 was to do with the library), I then repaired disk permissions. I tried to start again but got the same problem.
I then stared in safe mode. I'm now meant to be in safe mode but i'm not 100% sure as everything seems the same except everythign is very slow.
Midbackup my computer crashed so i'm wondering if there are any problems there (especially as it was the first backup I made on my new external HD). I'm now trying to backup in safemode but i'm not sure if that's the best thing to do (as not everything might not copy over and I could potentially ruin the first backup to my new external HD). Can anyone give me any advice on what to do next, tell me where I can test whether i'm in safe mode or not and let me know if I should be backing up in safemode.
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

    UPDATE
After entering successfully what appeared to be safe mode, I restared the computer and tried logging in normally. I got the white screen (as normal) before I reached the login screen, and after entering my password it eventually did log me in. Everything seems normal but I still want to be sure. My computer seems very slow. I only have 1.25GB/4GB free of RAM and I only have two safari tabs open. I'm backing up now but i'm still a bit concerned.

there is no installation cd, i have hit the command r function and attempted to reinstall from the recovery option stored on the computer. I am connected to the internet. It keeps saying downloading extra components and then once completed just goes b ack to main screen with my old log in informaiton as if nothing has happened. I also attempted to try to do a back up from a restore log and nothing on that as well.

  • Why won't my MacBook Pro get past the login screen

My MacBook isn't getting past the login. I log in but it stops and keeps a blank screen

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Why do emails on my Macbook Air take longer than they do to appear on the server site?

When I send or receive an email by clicking on the email icon at the bottom of the screen, it often takes longer to be sent or be received than if I go directly into the internet email site where it appears immediately.  At times, some people to whom I have sent emails do not receive them until hours later and conversely, incoming emails appear on the internet email site soon than they appear on my computer.  Can this be remedied?

Do you use Navionics for marine a marine chart plotter?  I noticed that after I installed all their (lousy) software on my MPB, this Navservice app would start up each time I booted.   It took me a while, but I tracked it down to the "LaunchAgents" folder in my system library.   Siince I quit the app each and every time I boot my MBP, I decided I didn't need it so I simply renamed the file from "com.apple.NavService.plist" to "com.apple.NavService.plist.old" and rebooted my MBP.  Voila, no more NavService app running in the background.
As far as the purpose of this thing, the plist entry is launching the following app:
    /Applications/Navionics World/NavService.app/Contents/MacOS/NavService
Take a look and see if you have the same thing.
The Navionics software for the Mac is obviously written by someone that doesnt' understand how Macs really work, and they scattered junk all over the place with their install routines.  In fact, if you update the software it will place redundant copies in redundant folders, etc. making it impossible to know which versions are the latest, etc.

  • MacBook Pro takes long time to connect

I know there are lots of threads about MBk Pro Airport connection probs so apologies for starting another
I’m using a MBook Pro 2.2Ghz running 10.4.11 together with an Airport Extreme (11n) base station. I have only recently switched to the ‘n’ version from the previous 11g which gave a host of problems with disconnects and so on.
Even though signal strength is good, when using 11n, the MBk takes a long time (up to a minute or so) to find and establish the connection, even though this is the only network in the house.
I have a feeling that some of the mods I did as per other threads to get a connection using the 11g may not have been fully reinstated to the current defaults. At present I have the following in system/library/extensions:
    AppleAirPort.kext v 3.4.9
    AppleAirPort2.kext v 4.0.5
    IO80211Family.kext v 1.6.2
I have a feeling I should also have AppleAirPortEnabler.kext (version?).
Could someone confirm the above are the current default up to date versions as at 10.4.11, and also whether I should have the AppleAirPortEnabler.kext installed as well.
I know I should have the originals - I did but they have gone missing. Probably buried in the drive somewhere, neither I nor Spotlight can find them.
    Thanks for any help.
Happy New Year to all on these boards from a rather dull UK Midlands.

Given your connection will eventually come good you'll probably find that your problem lies with your DHCP server and your MBP's inability to quickly get a new address. Check the DHCP's server admin that it has a decently large enough address pool as having too small a pool can often cause these issues. I normally recommend having a pool around 50% more than the number of computers that it serves else a minimum of 5.

  • My MacBook Pro takes along time wake up ??

My Macbook Pro takes a long time to wake when sleeping for over an hour and plug in.   Is there a setting to fix this because this is very frustrating when opening  up my macBook after a long day at work and it takes 20 sec or so for the computer to wake up and become active.   PLEASE HELP

The computer enters a so-called standby mode after it has been in sleep on battery power for more than a certain time (one hour, by default.) In that mode, the contents of memory are saved to a file, and then the power is turned off. When the computer wakes up, the contents of memory are restored from the file. As a result, waking from sleep takes longer than it otherwise would. The benefit is that sleep can be prolonged indefinitely without draining the battery or having to reboot.
You have two choices. One is to do nothing. Use the machine as designed. That's what I recommend.
The second choice is to increase the delay before standby mode is triggered, or to disable standby mode completely. This is an unsupported option and you're on your own as to the consequences. If you choose to go this route, proceed as below. These instructions are for advanced users only. You are tinkering with the hardware configuration at a low level, with the possibility of doing damage from which it may not be easy to recover.
    Back up all data.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Drag across the line below to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo pmset –a standbydelay
Don't copy the blank space at the end of the line.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). Press the space bar, then type the delay you want, in seconds. For example, if you want to change the standby delay from the default one hour to eight hours, enter 28800. Don't put commas or other punctuation marks in the number. To disable standby, enter 0 (zero.)
When the command is complete, press return. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. After running it, quit Terminal. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.

  • MacBook Pro takes 7 minutes to restart. Is it ok?

    I have a MacBook Pro:
      Nombre del modelo: MacBook Pro
      Identificador del modelo: MacBookPro9,2
Nombre del procesador: Intel Core i5
      Velocidad del procesador: 2.5 GHz
      Cantidad de procesadores: 1
      Cantidad total de núcleos: 2
Caché de nivel 2 (por núcleo): 256 KB
Caché de nivel 3: 3 MB
      Memoria: 8 GB
Versión de la ROM de arranque: MBP91.00D3.B09
      Versión SMC (sistema): 2.2f44
      Número de serie (sistema): XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
      UUID de hardware: DB159CB2-7F94-58EE-88AC-D57D9BA77BD4
      Sensor de movimiento repentino:
      Estado: Activado
When it becomes slow during the day, I restart it. Sometimes it takes very long just to shut down (the spinning bars keeps rotating in a black background), approximately two minutes. So, I rather simply turn it off (I click OK in the "do you really want to do it" warning), this method is faster.
Either way, my MacBook takes long to restart. It begins with a grey background for a minute or less, then a slim bar appears under Apple logo and starts to fill. This process takes three minutes, more or less. Then, when the bar is filled completely, the login screen with my photo appears. I login and immediately the pesky warning "Do you want to reopen application" appears; I click "Cancel". The desktop background picture appears, but just that, no menu bar, no dock, no icons. MacBook stays in this state for two and a half minutes. Then dock appears, no menu bar yet. I try to start an application with the Launcher icon in the dock but the screen gets blurred with the legend "Loading applications..." and MacBook stays in that state for another minute or more. I scape this blurred screen, I try to click something else but nothing is clickable, until menu bar appears. Then starts loading, clock mini icon, battery, TimeMachine, BlueTooth, iTranslate, DPS and other icons painfully slow. When everything seems to be on place, I click any item in the menu bar and the computer doesn't responde until the third click. Then everything starts working normal... until mid-afternoon, when the computer has become so slow that I have to restart it again.
As you can see, it is really frustrating, painful, unproductive.
    Is this normal?
    What can I do?

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Macbook Pro takes a long time (41 secs) from start to reach log-in - It used to be almost instantaneous, I'm running Lion OS

My Macbook Pro takes a long time (41 secs) from start to reach log-in - It used to be almost instantaneous, I'm running Lion OS. I thought this might be because I'd used a lot of disk space but I've now reduced that - I'm only using 40 of the 320 gb available. I have no games and I've unchecked the "re-open windows" option on shutdown. The rest of the preformance (once in) remains good.

41 seconds is actually a little faster then normal. Boot from completely off is normally around 45-50 seconds.
Your computer never ever came on almost instantaneously from completely off. You are confusing waking up from sleep mode and booting the computer from completely off.

You'll need to erase the drive by booting up holding command-option-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
Use Disk Utility to erase the disk and then Internet Recovery. That will take a while.
