Power PC G5 continues to crash after OS re-install and hardware tests.
I have a Power PC G5 (2005) running 10.4. and have had trouble with crashing within a minute or two of booting or re-booting, and this after absolutely no trouble for 5 years and regular updates. After looking up the issue and potential fixes, I ran through a battery of possible solutions including repairing the permissions. Still no go.( I installed 3rd party RAM back in Jan of this year, but no problems until Mid September. Ran Hardware tests and everything passed.) I reinstalled the OS from the original discs thinking it was a last resort but a sure fix believing it to be software...crashed in 2 minutes after the first boot (post install)....from what I am hearing / reading it could still be the HD or RAM, but since it passed the Hardware test, I'm a little confused... Any suggestions?
I have had some recommendations by BDAquq and will follow up on those...BDAqua recommended posting a new topic.
BD is right on Hardware Test not doing a very good memory test. Memtest is better, as it does more of the litany of tests that are traditional, going back many decades to tests you manually keyed into the first few bytes of RAM on the first mini-computers. (That was fun, believe me.)
Having said that, one strategy is to selectively remove RAM in pairs and reboot to see if the problem continues. That may need to be repeated, swapping DIMMs in and out to see if one of them has a problem. If the problem persists when all of the DIMM modules have at one time or another been swapped out, then you can rule out memory. If it goes away, you have found your culprit.
If that doesn't locate a bad DIMM, then you have to start looking at panic logs to see what is going on there. I discovered a bad USB device in that manner a couple of years ago (wireless mouse transceiver) so it can be done.
Not to play off on the last paragraph, but these problems sometimes devolve into a "mouse hunt" like in the movie with Nathan Lane. Hopefully, you can ftrack down the cause of this very annoying development.

So a few months back, word would not allow me to open previously save documents that I had once saved. The problem grew to not even being able to open word at all. I have not had any changes to my computer nor any problems prior. I did the step by step dis install of microsoft word from my computer. I then re-installed microsoft and now, once I save a document and attempt to reopen it, it will not. The latest messege given was an error messege as follows:
Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: @executable_path/../Frameworks/MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework/Versions/12/M icrosoftComponentPlugin
Referenced from: /Applications/Microsoft Word.app/Contents/MacOS/Microsoft Word
Reason: image not found
I have no idea what to do. I have done all the updates and cannot figure out what went wrong. Any help would be awesome. Thank you.It looks as if Word, at least, did not install properly.
Did you follow these instruction to completely uninstall Office 2008 -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2500821?

I need an app or software that records the date/time each time a write something and press enter. This needs to be quick so I can continue writing right after I press enter, and the date/time is inserted for each word. Imagine a spreadsheet - each time a write something in a cell and press enter to go into the next cell, I need the app/software to automatically insert the corresponding dat and time. Does this sort of software exist?
No one here is going to do anything about it. Send feedback to Apple.

I have a big crossbar mark over my FF4 icon after I've installed and replaced FF3. When I try to open the software, I get "You can't open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture." What's up with that?
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html -

Muse Crash - after pages "optimizing assets" and "exported" During Publish
The following was causing me problems for about a week or so. I continued to pursue it with the following "Crash" symptoms until waking this morning with perhaps a resolution to the inconsistent problem. It is so simple I would probably be wise just to ignor giving you an answer to save face. But, sometimes you just must standup and take it ... so don't be too hard on me.
ANSWER TO MY CRASH PROBLEM: When publishing you have in the option menu to either upload all changes or just upload those things that have changed from the last update. With over 2,000 images on my site and 18 pages I decided, until I had a major upgrade, to take the option to upload only changed items of my site. This saves a lot of time. In thinking about it it came to me "who is then deciding what is "change" and what conditions apply and are covered by the logic of the Muse program". What is considered an error to crash the program! So I chose the option to upload all items and this seemed to fix the problem. I think it has as it crashed right after it had uploaded the "changed" items but, never published them (because of an error somewhere in the uploads). My suggestion to the program writers is whatever sensed the error should have a dialogue box that says to rerun the program using "upload all items". Love this program! Howard Lower of Lower Photography and Studio in Rochester, MN.
Muse Crash right after pages are exported during publish with no other indication of a problem. I have been fighting this problem for many days now.
I thought I had it fixed last night as it worked fine after deleting the Microsoft Outlook plugin called Acrobat PDFmaker Office com Addin as the descriptions of the problems it caused others with Adobe programs sounded exactly what I was see with Muse.
The only Change I see in Muse today is that during "Publish", and the information as it runs is Muse first "optimizing assets", them it Export Desktop page and gets to 16 of 18 then Muse crashes without any indication or message for the problem.
Could it be a problem with "Business Catalyst" as that is what "Publish" is exporting to? Who can check out to see what is happening from exporting assets to Business Catalyst? It appears that the one line in the specification box does not have to have any information put into it regarding the directory location as it already has the business Catalyst name or reference site in it. Is this correct?
That is all I need and the only thing I can say is .... HELP! Muse is the perfect program for me and my business and now it has let me down so that I can not make changes to what I would consider a great website at http://www.lowerphotography.com if I could only make needed changes.

Message was edited by: HLowerWell, after 20 hours of work and rebuilding most of my Muse website I finally was able to upload by site again.
Here was my problems per above and the last 20 hours. When publishing the site it does the following: Optimize assets, exportin desktip page 1 thru 19, Fining export HTML files then uploading images which I have 2208 on this site plus other stuff uploaded.
I can not answer why it now works as "normally"it would het error #2015 uring optimizing assets wich is an invalid bitmap data error and failed at only 9% publish process then got a 1125 index 0 is out of range0 at publish 20% complete.
I did rewrite most of the pages and made minor changes to all of them thinking that would force all pages to be uploaded as I also took option to upload all pages instead of just those that changes. All 2008 images were reloaded onto the pages by another hint I read on how to delete all thumbnails and thus the files is to select all and press delete and it will leave one as required. Then the one left could be deleted by itself. Thanks for whoever asked the question and who answered it. This saved me a lot of time.
Thanks to all that have taken the time to help me out. Muse is a great program but sometimes you don't have any idea if it is working at something so I found myself looking at the computer busy light to see if Muse was taking a lot of cycles. It would help to have a wider use of the cursor busy indicator as sometimes the system seemed like it was hung up but it was not.
Thanks guys!
Again, after hours of calmness and yes I also prayed over this problem and this last time it worked. So stay calm, and keep working at it and God helping doesn't hurt either. I can not explain it otherwise. -
Photoshop CS2 crashes after MS Office install
Hello everyone,
I have been using Photoshop CS2 without any problems since I bought my new iMac a few months ago. I haven't used Photoshop for a week or so, and I am not sure if my last system update to 10.6.8 was before or after that pause in my Photoshop use. What I am sure of is that the day before yesterday I installed Microsoft Office for Mac 2011.
Since yesterday Photoshop crashes like crazy: sometimes right on startup, sometimes when I do something like open a new document or whatever. I cannot find any systematics as to when Photoshop crashes, only that it usually crashes pretty quickly.
Below is the latest crash report. I don't know if the others say the same. Can anyone understand what the reason for the crash is or even if it is related to the Office installation or bad fonts or ...?
Thank you!!!

I've been using CS2 for several years, and currently under OS 10.5.6 (so it is NOT an OS 10.6.x issue). I've been very careful to keep permissions repaired etc. before & after any major install or update. Never, ever had any problem with CS2, none. A few weeks ago, I upgraded from Office Mac 2008 to 2011. Everything seemed fine with the Mac until the next time I used CS2 to scan some docs, but it started crashing for no apparent reason. I was about to try re-installing CS2 or even pay to upgrade to CS5 (CS2 is fine for my needs ... back when it worked). I'm glad I googled "office 2011 photoshop" and found this series of posts. qwertyboy's original post sounded as if I had written it! I hope the font thing is the fix ... however, that seems like the kind of problem that would have affected a Mac 20 years ago back in the dark ages of running OS 7, not a modern OS ... shame on MS software code people for not following Apple Developer guidelines for managing fonts or whatever. Thanks all for the good posts!
PS: I need to comment on the crash report:
"I say it's not Office because there isn't one reference to Office in the crash report. All are squarely Adobe PS."
That's like saying it was Abe Lincoln's fault that he was assassinated because he didn't get out of the way of John Wilkes Booth's bullet; the evidence being that Lincoln's blood was all over the place, but none of Booth's was found. -
Mac Mini crash after Mountain Lion install!
I just tried to update my wife's MacMini to Mountain Lion and when it went through the first restart, it never came back up. I checked to see if it was the monitor after searching here for a while, I am using a Samsung TV coming off the HDMI port. I plugged in a regular monitor to the mini display port and still nothing. I tried to do a hard restart after letting it sit for about 10 min and now it sounds like the hard drive is barely spinning up. Anybody have any ideas?
Oh. You are so in jail.
Plug the mini straight into the wall power supply.
You do have 4 - 8GB memory installed, right?
Disconnect everything but power and the display port to regular monitor connection. Make sure that external monitor is switched to the type of connection: DVI, HDMI, VGA. Wrong setting and your mini could be booted up sneering at you from behind a dark screen.
Boot mini.
Any change? -
Mail crashing after 3.1 install
After upgrading to 3.1 on my 8GB 2Gen iPod touch my Mail app crashes after opening an email. I tried a hard reset and a restore but the only restore that iTunes had was the most recent one done after the 3.1 install so I have no way of going back to 3.0. Is anyone else having this issue?
I have the iPod Touch 1G 8GB, and since updating to OS ver. 3.1.2 via iTunes, Mail crashes every time I try to check my e-mail for my primary IMAP account. It wouldn't crash if I only had my Gmail account set up. But as soon as I set up my IMAP account (standard e-mail account, nothing fancy, no SSL or anything), a few seconds after using Mail it dies.
It didn't do this when I first set up my iPod Touch a few days ago. Only since syncing to the latest OS version. -
Software Update crashes after first update install after 35 pass Format.
Ok so I have a powerbook G4 1.67 and a G5 1.5. Both have been acting weird so I reformatted and installed tiger on both. The powerbook has its own install disk and the Desktop I use the store bought version of Tiger. I did a zero all data on the Powerbook and a 35 Pass Format on the desktop. Immediately after installing the first set of Software updates both systems independently and at different times wont accept updates. Software update crashes after showing what updates are available. If I uncheck 10.4.10 on the first update and then try to manually install 10.4.3 after the first software update and restart it goes to the second installation window and freezes. There has to be a bad update in Itunes or something. Does anyone know what Is going on? I am getting really bad conspiracy vibes about this considering were a week away from a new release.
If you haven't installed any third party software,
and are using a version of Tiger that is known to work on that Mac (system specific disks from other Macs do not work all the time),
then it sounds like you have a hardware issue with your machine which installing a new operating system won't help. An erase and install should eliminate bad preferences, bad cache, bad drivers, corrupt files, as long as nothing third party is attached the machine other than a display.
Third party keyboards, mice, and other peripherals can all contribute to problems. Displays won't contribute unless they are underpowered in their USB or Firewire ports for the peripherals attached through them (if they are Apple displays with USB and Firewire). -
Computer crash after attempting to install SP2!!?!
Hello, I have a question for you all because I've been encountering problems all day with this "service pack 2" that's needed for the iPod touch...when I tried to install it earlier, it crashed my computer (windows XP) and I ended up on the phone with Dell tech support for several hours..ended up having to re-install XP and all this other stuff, but it almost blew out the whole hard drive!
Anyway, I'm worried that if I try to install the pack again, the same thing will happen...also, I'm worried that if I do get the pack to install, I'm going to have to re-install iTunes (I do have the newest version available now) and I will lose all of my music from my mini. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks ahead of time!If your iPhone has entered recovery mode, all content has already been erased. All you can do is complete by following the instructions for use of recovery mode in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Running SCCM 2007 SP2 R3 and having two big issues with SUP that impacted us severely with the February patches. An RDP patch from November broke our 2-factor authentication (2FA) method, so we stopped deployment until Microsoft could fix the
patch. Rather than fixing the patch...they made a patch for the patch.
We divided our servers up into multiple Day/Time maintenance windows, like SUN, MON, TUE, and from 0200 to 0600 AM, and we run deployments weekly as needed.
There doesn't seem to be a way in SUP to "let SCCM control reboot" and ALWAYS reboot (whether the patches request it or not), and, as a result, we seem to have an awful lot of servers that are stuck at "reboot pending" after patch installation,
and have actually taken to using a third-party program to reboot the servers.
There also doesn't seem to be a way to force SCCM SUP to rescan the computer after the patch is applied until after a day...or, for servers, a week (from Mon to Mon, for example).
What happened this time around was that the first patch installed and broke 2FA, the second patch is not recognized as being needed until after a reboot and rescan--since that did not occur, it took up to a week to get the second patch installed (IF the
server ever was rebooted), which...was unacceptable.
Soooo...how can I:
1. ALWAYS force SCCM to reboot after patching (60-min countdown if user logged-on), just like we do with our normal deployment advertisement, package, program.
2. Force a WUA scan after this reboot, so, if remaining patches from this patch group are needed, they get detected and installed, and hopefully this will all work within the 4-hour window (we might be able to extend it earlier,
but, not past 0600).
Thanks! Thanks, Don. OK, if there is a "reboot required" returned at the end of the patch deployment...shouldn't the computer then reboot? We see a large number of computers with "reboot required" that never reboot. Is there something wrong in
the setup to stop a reboot from occurring?
Thanks.
It looks like you've continued the conversation with Jason and it's taken an interesting turn ;)
But, in the case where a reboot_required is the returned resultcode, CCM will look to your MW and deployment settings, and the context of the installation event (enforcement etc), to determine if the reboot request should be honoured or refused.
You should be able to see all the to-and-fro of this logic within the client logfiles, as it's occurring (or after the event).
If you do some spelunking into the logfiles, don't forget to look at windowsupdate.log (the WUAgent logfile), as that can, with the CCM logfiles, paint a more complete picture of the "flow of things".
This does all assume that the client machine is in a healthy and predictable state to begin with.
If there is already some other pending_reboot hiding in the background, or, WUAgent is running with it's own configuration (potentially fighting with CCM), or, it's Win8 with the "Automatic Maintenance" scheduled task, you can get some unexpected behaviour
(but usually that is unexpected reboot, rather than unexpected no-reboot)
Don
