Power point 2004

Hi All-
Didn't see a forum for Power Point 2004 problems, so hope its ok to start here:
I created a PPT presentation with mostly inserted "photos from file", then added a few QuickTime video clips, several MB's each, added some graphics here and there, and saved it all to my desktop; total size of file is now 12 MB. The problem occured when I re-started my computer, after being in sleep mode only, the entire time during creation of the file.....when I tried to open my ppt presentation I received an error message that states 'Can not open file because file is either corrupt, in use, or in a format that PPT doesn't recognize.'
I've tried opening it by dbl-clicking on icon, holding down CTRL + click and OPEN WITH, and have also tried OPEN from the FILE menu within PPT, and all with the same error message. Also tried from the MOST RECENT list.
If I put it on the 'Network' at work and try to open it on a co-workers PC, will that work? and if not, what else can I try?? This was meant to be a xmas gift to my family back home in the states!
Thank you so much for any help you offer......
Cheers,

Prana72,Welcome to Apple Discussions. There won't be a Forum for Powerpoint as these forums are for Apple made products - although you're more than welcome to discuss other items like that here.
I've never come across a file getting corrupted whilst sat on the desktop it sounds very like this has actually happened. I would try opening it with another version of Powerpoint. Have you set Office to create back-up files of everything (perhaps you should in future?).
I would also open Applications > Utilites > Disk Utility and click 'Repair Permissions'.

  • New to apple and wondering if using keynote is easier than power point.

    Hello all,
I have only been using os x for about 6 months, and I was wondering if using keynote is easier than power point? I am in school so I need to know if keynote will save in ppt format. The school that I go to only uses MS office 97 to 2004 format for all docs and power points. Is using keynote that much different?

i find keynote MUCH easier in almost all areas. it did take me a little learning in the beginning. the main thing to know is that apple uses a floating pallet call "inspector" to control just about all the details of the presentation. they also have a "formatting bar" which is conceptually similar to the formatting bars microsoft uses in the previous versions of office (font size, etc...).
the basic entry for slides is the same, where one just types into the fields on the slides. what i find much better is the control i have in the "inspector" to fine tune anything. i've gotten completely dependent on keynotes "staging" which is how one makes the slides animate. if i have a series of bullets and a diagram, i use the staging to get the diagram to be revealed in stages and to get the bullets appear one at a time in sync with the diagram i'm explaining. nothing is more boring for an audience to have someone just stand up, thru up a slide with 100 words and read the text bullets.
i find keynote to be much easier to develop diagrams or to copy and paste in a PDF picture. then add the staging effects i need to develop the story to explain the diagram or picture. it does take a little learning how to do it the first couple times. but the interface is consistent and it's not hard to learn it.
the only aspect i find a little easier in powerpoint is the indenting style, which is controlled in one of the editing buttons in office 11 and before. keynote controls the indenting from the "inspector" instead of having a little button in the formatting bar. but in every other way, i find keynote to be MUCH easier to use. and it has other features that powerpoint doesn't have. plus iwork is very inexpensive compared to microsoft office. finally, if you are near an apple store, they have free seminars on iWork fairly often. the 1st time i used keynote, i went to the apple store workshop and got a few answers. just see how easy it is to get person to person help for microsoft office...
the only other game in town are the various releases of the open source programs, "open office" and "neo office". they are free, also read and write ppt files, but are a little harder to use than keynote and don't have as many features.
    anyway, that's my experience.
    good luck!

  • I can't use power point on my mac now I have Lion.

Now that I've had to install Lion, I cant use power point on my mac. What can be done about this?
Are there any other programmes I can use? Or do I need to reinstall it?

Office 2004 will not run on Lion because it uses "PowerPC" code.
Office 2008 and later work in Lion.

  • Power Point Crashes Slide Show Every Time, Grrr...

I never use Power Point 2008.
Today I opened it, clicked on "Slide Show" and it locked up my 8-core Mac Pro and required a hard power-button reboot.
I did this three times in a row.
Google hit this known problem with its OpenGL since 10.4 and PowerPoint 2004.
    All updates ran.
    Grr...

How many graphics cards do you have, how many monitors?
Mine loads some kind of big gray window on my left monitor and crashes every time (requiring a power-button reboot) — I run two OEM matching ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT cards, a 30" ACD, a 24" NEC, and a Sony 17" LDC.
Also, Toast 8.0.4 has a funky bug with the burn window and About Toast window going blank white that seems to be associated with GL and multiple cards or monitors...
This was more than annoying here when I had my client in the studio producing a basic powerpoint slideshow @ $2 per minute (and it kept locking up when I tried to play it).

  • From Power Point to ...

    Hi ALL,
This is maybe the wrong forum for my question, but I give it a trey anyway.
I developed in MS Office 2004 for Mac a Power Point presentation an now I would like to convert this presentation in to a website.
My question is simple an hopefully you have a simple answer ... Is it possible to so ??
I'm using Dream Weaver 8 for developing websites.
    Thanks in advance ...

Browsers do not have any "helper" apps (plug-ins) that can view your .pps file so the file would need conversion to QuickTime, WMP or Flash media formats to be used in a browser.

  • Keynote Power Point Producer

Can anyone tell me if Keynote is able to do what Powerpoint Producer will do..ie record video/audio linked to power point slides. Powerpoint producer is a free download from MS but doesn't seem to be availble for Mac office 2004?.
I would prefer to use Keynote. It makes sense that you should be able to have a video record window/playback window in keynote which is synced to your presentation...much cheaper than having to buy something like Adobe Connect

Keynote unfortunately does not have this kind of oft-requested feature.

  • I downloaded Lion onto my Mac, and now cannot open or access any of my Microsoft word documents or Power Points. Is there a fix for this? I need my documents

I downloaded Lion onto my Mac, and now cannot open or access any of my Microsoft word documents or Power Points. Is there a fix for this? I need my documents

If it's because you were using Office 2004, the eight year old version of Office that was written when Intel processors were not used in Macs, then there will be no fix. Lion dropped support for PowerPC applications, as has been widely reported since Lion's release last August.
You can upgrade Office 2004 to Office 2008 or Office 2011. You can use iWorks 2009 that can open Microsoft files. You can use a number of free applications that are also capable of working with Microsoft documents. You can go back to Snow Leopard, if you have a backup. Or, if you have an external drive or room to add a partition to your current drive, you can install Snow Leopard on it.
Search these forums for more information. If this is your issue, it's been posted and answered several times a day since August 2011.

  • Power point in dreamweaver

Is it possible to have a power point presentation run in
Dreamweaver? I saved PP as a .mht file but I must be missing
    something. its not loading.

It's not in Dreamweaver that you have to worry about .. it's
    running it on
the web. Here are some tips:

Converting it to Flash is a good option. Also, one really
    cool way to do it
is with Adobe Presenter. Read about that here:

  • Can I display a Power Point presentation in full screen on an HP Pavilion g

I have a working Power Point presentation with an imbedded video, whic means I can not use Power Point "Show". Can I display a Power Point presentation in full screen on an HP Pavilion g? If so, how do I do it?

    Hi,
    On any machine, please try:
Click the "Options" tab on the PowerPoint toolbar,
then select "Play Full Screen" from the "Movie Options" group.
The "Options" tab is located directly underneath the "Movie Tools" button.
    Regards.

  • Report download to power point doesn't show all records

    dear experts,
I have a report with a tape deck below, so it shows only records 1-25. When I click download to excel, every record is downloaded (1-all rows) and this is fine. But, if I download to power point, only the records shown on the dashboard (e.g. 1-25) are downloaded into power point.
Our quality assurance claims, that the behaviour for both download options should be the same, and not downloading to excel having every row and the power point showing limited rows.
Is there a way to download the whole report, each row, to power point (without clicking on tapedeck to show all) ??
    Thanks in advance.
    best regards,
    Thomas

    problem solved
modify report - results(answers) - click on printer icon (PDF and Print Control) - Print Rows - set to "All"
    regards,

I have 2 screens at work and 1 screen at home. I was working on a power point presentation on 2 monitors with the presentation on monitor externally hooked up to my computer. My window is now "stuck" when I open Power Point. I cannot drag it back to a display or find any way to move it back into my view. Help!!!

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

  • How to open and view a demonstration file of MS Power Point 2010 on iPad 2?

Hello! I've made a MS Power Point file for my boss, he is using an iPad 2 (iOS 4) But he can only open a static picture of the presentation, but he can't view the presentation step by step as it should be. Which app or feature should he use to see full demonstration of presentation?
    Thanks in advance!

Best bet is downloading Keynote made by Apple. It's 9.99 on the App store and lets you view, open, edit, and create powerpoint presentations. It's awesome!!!
