Power Point Crashes Slide Show Every Time, Grrr...

I never use Power Point 2008.
Today I opened it, clicked on "Slide Show" and it locked up my 8-core Mac Pro and required a hard power-button reboot.
I did this three times in a row.
Google hit this known problem with its OpenGL since 10.4 and PowerPoint 2004.
All updates ran.
Grr...

How many graphics cards do you have, how many monitors?
Mine loads some kind of big gray window on my left monitor and crashes every time (requiring a power-button reboot) — I run two OEM matching ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT cards, a 30" ACD, a 24" NEC, and a Sony 17" LDC.
Also, Toast 8.0.4 has a funky bug with the burn window and About Toast window going blank white that seems to be associated with GL and multiple cards or monitors...
This was more than annoying here when I had my client in the studio producing a basic powerpoint slideshow @ $2 per minute (and it kept locking up when I tried to play it).

Maybe find a local who can translate for you. I don't know what to tell you for dealing in another country for service on your computer.
I can offer you something you can do if you want to give it a try. You'll need a backup of your data in your Home folder because you need to erase the drive. You'll also need a solid, preferably fast, internet connection.
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

My Aperture/Photoshop workflow paged out on my MBP even with 8 GB RAM. Personally I recommend simply upgrading to 16 GB RAM immediately. The limited RAM may or may not be the direct cause of your SBBOD but it is very likey that your MBP is paging out, and paging out is very slow which often does cause problematic operation.
If you want to evaluate whether or not you currently have adequate RAM on board:
Look at the Page Outs number under System Memory on the Activity Monitor app before starting a typical Aperture work session and write the number down. Recheck the Page Outs count after working and write the number down again. If the page outs change (manual calculation of ending page outs number minus starting page outs number) is not zero your workflow is RAM-starved.
Ignore the pie charts and other info in Activity Monitor because they are often misleading regarding RAM usage. For RAM analysis, manually count page outs.
If your test showed that page outs increased during operation you can
    • add RAM, very strongly recommended
    • and/or simply try to run Aperture by itself after restarting, a workaround
    • Restart before Aperture work sessions to clear possible memory leaks
Personally IMO maxxing out RAM to 16 GB from OWC or Crucial is a no-brainer at today's prices. More and more, app and OS designers are (rightfully) designing to take advantage of lots of RAM.
At 60% full your HDD is not overfilled but HDDs slow as they fill so IMO you should replace it with a larger drive SSD/HDD when it gets ~70% full. Also you may want to consider moving to a Referenced-Masters workflow with the Masters on external drives to keep your internal drive from overfilling.

Why does the slider disappear every time I use it to move the window (Windows: FF 32.0)? How do I get the slider back?

Problem solved: I have been using Walnut for Firefox ver. 2.0.28 theme. For some reason this has been causing the problem. Started FF in Safe Mode, and the slider problem disappeared. Then proceeded to re-enable the Walnut theme: the problem reappeared. Disabled Walnut theme and reenabled all my other add-ons (about 6 of them). Still no problem. So, clearly there is a problem with the use of Walnut theme in FF ver. 32, at least on my Windows 7 installation.
Thanks for all your suggestions and help. Good job, all!

    Hello all,
I have searched forums and seen a few references to this but have yet to spot a definitive resolution for my problem.
Which is that after exporting project from Vegas Pro12 to Adobe Premiere Pro Cc 20214 format, upon importing to APPCC2014 the program crashes each and every time. And always very early on in the import.
I have tried opening a new project then importing, but the same issue arises.
I was wondering please is there a current work around or fix for this vexing issue .
Any help greatly appreciated & TIA.

Have you contacted technical support for Sony Vegas? Since their program is writing the file, it's their responsibility to generate a project that Premiere can read.

  • Mail crashes at launch every time

    Hi,
Mail crashes at launch every time.`
I'm on OSX Mountain Lion and it worked for a time but, suddenly, Mail began ti crash...
    iMessages crashes too.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Report download to power point doesn't show all records

    dear experts,
I have a report with a tape deck below, so it shows only records 1-25. When I click download to excel, every record is downloaded (1-all rows) and this is fine. But, if I download to power point, only the records shown on the dashboard (e.g. 1-25) are downloaded into power point.
Our quality assurance claims, that the behaviour for both download options should be the same, and not downloading to excel having every row and the power point showing limited rows.
Is there a way to download the whole report, each row, to power point (without clicking on tapedeck to show all) ??
    Thanks in advance.

  • Crashes at startup, every time

Last night Logic Pro 7 (7.2.1 on OS X 10.4.7) started crashing on startup. I hadn't installed anything new to the system, and in fact the last time I had exited Logic, it was a clean exit. Now it's been 24 hours and I still can't get anywhere with it.
I did do something new and different (for me) in between the successful exit and the first failed startup, but I'm not sure it's relevant: I noticed my project was getting too big to fit on a DVD-R, so I right-clicked the project folder and started creating an archive (ZIP file). Logic was not running at the time, though I think ITunes was, and it was playing a file imported from the Logic project in question. Anyway the progress indicator made it look like it was going to take a long time to make the archive, so I clicked the (X) to abandon the task for the time being. Logic hasn't run since.
Here are all the things I've tried in the meantime:
    1. Upgraded OS to 10.4.8 and Logic to 7.2.3.
    2. Reinstalled Logic 7.2 from disc, then reupgraded from the net, trying it at each stage.
    3. Removed half the RAM, then the other half.
    4. Started Logic with control key down to get audio out of the equation.
    5. Moved all contents from Components folder to a temporary directory somewhere else.
    6. Upgraded BFD, since it was there. (Note: the other Plug-In I have is Ivory, in case that matters.)
    7. Started Logic by double-clicking on a near-empty project file, rather than just starting the app.
In no case did the behavior ever change: it boots up normally, right up to the point where the arrange window is up there looking like it should. Then a dialog box appears indicating the crash. I've read the crash logs but I don't know what I'm looking at.
Since the crash text is long, I've uploaded it to the web and anyone who knows how to interpret it can see it here:
    http://dt.prohosting.com/work/crash.txt
I'm no Mac expert, but I have a strong feeling that the hardware is happy as a clam, and so is the O/S, and basically there's a configuration parameter or startup file somewhere that Logic doesn't like. Can someone lend a hand?
Thanks in advance for any help. I sure like making music better than fixing computers!
    -DeeT

Boot Logic without the CoreAudio driver enabled. After double-clicking your file hold CTRL. Logic will ask you if you want to boot CoreAudio. Answer no. The session will load with all of your plugs and VI's x'd out. Once the session is open and all of the MIDI dialogs etc. go away, open up the audio preferences, uncheck, then recheck enable. Logic will ask you if you want to 'Try Relaunch' of the CoreAudio driver. Hit yes.
I've had a number of huge sessions that fall victim to very problem you're plagued with. I remember being quite angry when I couldn't boot after a clean close. This makes my sessions usable every time they are seemingly not.
The other tip that this forum has helped in keeping things running smoothly is the 'reorganize memory' function (dbl-click beneath the tempo). This little ditty's resurrected sessions that refuse to bounce (you know the ones that crash then take 6 minutes to reopen.)
Oh, and, oft times, the sessions that have trouble opening from scratch return to their normal state of content. The problem has something to do with Logic asking about MIDI connections after all of your VI's are loaded (I have a Tranzport that sits in the closet and never gets plugged in. When logic opens a session it automatically gets looked for. If the session's particularly big I can usually count on a crash.
    Hope it helps.

Seems like I missed that pip about rebooting with the control key down. Sorry to call on redundancy.
If I'm allowed to kick myself while I'm down, I wonder if when you boot without CoreAudio enabled do you get further in the load process than booting with CA enabled?

  • HELP! iTunes Crashes On Launch Every Time

Okay, so last night I updated to 10.6.3. A couple hours later, I closed down iTunes and opened it back up to discover that it wouldn't open anymore. I tried removing the library file, thinking it might have become corrupted somehow, and iTunes would sort of half-open, but not for long. And then when I'd try to open it up again, it would crash. At this stage, I could get it to briefly open every time by removing all the library files every time, but then it would recreate them, and when it close/crash (and it would do this every time fairly quickly), it would once again not open at all unless I removed the library files.
At this point, I tried this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1224 to entirely remove all traces of iTunes, and then reinstalled the latest version, 9.0.3. Now, the problem was actually worse; it would ONLY open to the point where it would ask me to agree to the iTunes EULA, and then after I did, it would immediately shut down again.
At no time in this process, by the way, did it EVER give me an "iTunes shut down unexpectedly" message. It NEVER gave me the option to "ignore, report, reopen." So I'm not even entirely sure if it crashed; iTunes might've simply found something it did not like and decided to close. I am not sure.
Next, I tried reinstalling the 10.6.3 update all over again, uninstalling iTunes from scratch all over again, AND restoring my System files from an older save on Time Machine. Still nothing. I've restarted innumerable times, uninstalled and reinstalled from scratch several times.
I suspect (though cannot know for sure) that what caused iTunes to refuse to stay open anymore was related to my having used Monolingual. I've used Monolingual many times over the years and not suffered for it, but it's the only thing that makes sense, because iTunes opened fine originally when I'd first done my restarts after updating, but then when I simply shut down and reopened the application once it wouldn't work anymore. Since Monolingual works while other applications are open, I find it most likely that it removed something necessary that iTunes needed. Just for the record, what I used it to remove this particular time were as follows: all languages except French, English, and Swedish, and all architectures except ARM and Intel. I suspect this latter move was what did it, but I have no idea why, as I've done it once before and it was fine.
Can anyone help? I feel as though I've tried everything!

  • Power Point didn't show in correct alignment

I have created a power point slide and wanted to present to my CEO. Somehow, my chart didnt show correctly when in presentation mode. Everythings fine in normal mode.

    Hi,
In regarding of the issue, I have some questions.
Which PowerPoint version did you use?
Was the presentation created in an earlier version of Point ?
Did only one chart of the slide encounter the issue?
How was the chart displayed incorrectly in presentation mode? Resize the chart, lost data or show the partly of the chart?(If you could upload some image, I'll appreciate about it)
Did you show the presentation in a projector and occur the issue?
Please try the following methods to test:
If you use a latest PowerPoint (such as PowerPoint 2013) to open a presentation created in an earlier version, please try to convert the presentation to the new format and re-open it.
If you show the presentation in a projector, please use "copy mode" to test.
    Start the
PowerPoint in safe mode. If it works fine in safe mode, please check the add-ins one by one.
    Repair Office.
If you upload a sample of the presentation, I'll test in my environment.
    Regards,
    George Zhao
