Powershot G15 RAW support in LR 3.6 (Elements 10)

I have Elements 10 and LR 3.6 installed (I also have LR 4.3 but more on that later). I just purchased a Canon Powershot G15 and from what I've been able to determine RAW support for it was included in ACR 7. Am I correct in assuming I cannont use ACR 7 with my two programs?
I'm afraid to install LR 4.3 because of all the reported performance problems. My 3.6 runs like a champ. I'm using a MacBook Pro with 4GB RAM and intel i5 processor. So what do you think? Should I take the chance and go ahead and install 4.3 or leave well enough alone. I received 4.3 as a free upgrade so if I don't install it I'm really not out anything.

I have both 3.x and 4.x installed on my Windows 7 computer.  I don’t remember doing anything special, but you can always just install LR 3.x again if you decide to abandon LR 4.x.
Assuming you have LR3 currently configured to open the last-opened catalog each time you start it up, LR4 will find and ask permission to convert a copy of that LR3 catalog to LR4 format but your LR3 catalog will still be useable by LR3.  Anything you do with the LR4-converted copy won’t be reflected in the original LR3 catalog because they are two separate catalogs and LR3 cannot open the LR4 catalog.  When doing the initial conversion, name the new copy of the catalog something that makes sense for being the LR4 version of your LR3 catalog so you won’t be confused when you look at the catalog names in the future.

  • Canon Powershot s40 RAW support hack WORKS!

Kudos to Jason Pugsley for the following (Powershot G2 data, but it works just fine and dandy for the Powershot S40!!!)
<<< Following copied from Jason's thread on the Powershot G2>>>
This camera is a bit old but if you want to import images in RAW format you can try this hack. Hopefully Apple will have official support soon.
I started with the settings for the already-supported G3. Feel free to modify the values if you've got any idea what they're for...
Edit this file (make sure you save a backup first)

    Also note,
Powershot S40 CRW's I'd archived within Aperture rendered almost immediately (as did .DNG's based on them). But the RAW adjustment fine tuning did not appear in the Inspector/HUD.
(My assumption on the above is that Aperture initially identified them as non-RAW vs. unsupported, and therefore set a flag somewhere saying that RAW adjustments were not valid).
There is another thread on this for the Nikon D80, so I followed its solution ....
Export the masters, delete masters, re-import the masters!
    All works well!

  • RAW support for Canon PowerShot SX1

    Hi All,
In the absence of Apple support for the Powershot SX1 IS any suggestions on how to work with this camera easily in a workflow shooting RAW?
I have seen a few archived posts with some suggestions such as the Adobe DNG converter but unfortunately the camera is not supported by the converter (just Photoshop CS and Elements).
Would LOVE to get some apple support here but at the moment I am going to have to find a workaround or go the Adobe application path...
    Thanks in Advance.

Adobe converter works fine if you haven't adjusted the file.
I was using LR2 and DNG files and anything that has been cropped or adjusted won't show in aperture 3 even after going through the converter.
The only way it worked way to open it in Photoshop and change it to a photoshop file. Then Aperture 3 recognizes it.
I wish apple would just add the SX1 IS to it's raw support.

  • IPhoto does not support Canon Powershot S45 RAW Format

    Hi,
It seems iPhoto does not support Canon Powershot S45 RAW file format. Can this be added to be supported!?
Does anyone know how to report this to Apple and request this as a feature enhancement?

    Or this link: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

  • RAW-support, Canon PowerShot G1 X

Has anyone heard anything about this RAW-support for Canon PowerShot G1 X?
I can see the miniatures when importing but once imported I only get a black image and the text "Unsupported Image Format".

RAWS are not yet supported, but it should be int he next update:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
That miniature that you see is just the embedded JPEG preview. For now you can shoot RAW + JPEG and when it is supported reprocess your Raws.

  • PSE 11 won't open CR2 files from Canon PowerShot G15.

I was interested in PSE 11 so I could use ACR 7.x to open the raw (CR2) files from my new Canon PowerShot G15 camera--but even after updating the files, PSE 11 won't recognize my camera!  It's still not listed in the group of supported cameras on the Adobe website(s).  This camera has been out for a few months (at least!), so it's unbelievable that Adobe still won't support those files.  They only go through the G12, not up to G15.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 and Canon Powershot G15.

I have Photoshop Elements 8 and a Canon Powershot G15.  I need to download Raw from this camera, which appears to be impossible, although it will download from my Nikon D60.  Do I need a plug in to achieve the result with the Powershot; if so what will it cost and how do I get it?  Thanks,
    brucem

    Hi,
The G15 is supported in Camera Raw 7.3 (or later) which, unfortunately, is not compatible with Photoshop Elements 8.
You can either upgrade to Photoshop Elements 11 (or later) or download and install the free Adobe DNG converter. You copy your CR2 to a folder and then give the DNG converter that folder name. The converter will then convert those files to the DNG format. the DNG files can then be used by Photoshop Elements 8.

  • Lightroom 2.7 plug-in for Canon G15 raw conversion?

Does anyone know if this exists, or do I need to purchase the lastest version of Ligthroom?  Currently, I can't load any raw files shot on my Canon G15 into my Lightroom 2 catalogs.
    Thanks for any help-
    Kim

The Canon Powershot G15 was first supported in Lightroom 4.3
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
So you'll either have to upgrade to LR4.4
or convert the Raw files to DNGs using the free DNG converter then edit the DNGs

  • G15 raw files and LR 4

Hello, I bought a G15 Ganon, I downloaded a release candidate version of LR (4.3) in order to see the raw photos from this camera. Now the beta version is expired. If I buy the update LR 4.0 (I already have LR 3) will I be able to work on my G15 Canon powershot files?

According to this document, your G15 Raw photos will work with LR4.3 (which you can purchase directly from Adobe, you don't have to purchase LR 4.0)

  • Canon G15 raw files

Why can't I open Canon G15 raw files in CC?

    Photoshop CC you mean?
No idea. It's been supported since CS6.
    What happens when you try?

  • Powershot G15 ISO in aperture mode

    Hello to everyone,
there is a question that I cannot answer myself about the ISO in Powershot G15. When I work in Aperture mode I can set up the maximum ISO that the camera will use depending on the ambient light available.
The weird thing to me is that the camera selects a high iso when there is enough light available. For instance, information about one of my picture is: ISO 800, f. 2.0, 1/400. How is it possible that shooting to 1/400 the camera selects an ISO of 800??? It sounds stupid to me since you stilll can shoot up to 1/60 without having vibration problems and the camera should always select the lowest ISO to avoid noise.
Can anyone enlight me about this issue?
    Thank you!

When the engineers designed the G15 camera parameters, I believe they strived to have the camera attain 14%-18% grey for the best white balance with the fastest shutter speed, and that bumps up the ISO to compensate. It really does not depend so much on the light metering, which would make more sense to me. I'm with Cicopo on this as I stopped using the Auto ISO and setting max ISO ranges for the very reasons that you have stumbled on to, and instead I have learned through trial and error what the best ISO settings would be.
Just curious if you shoot in RAW or JPEG. I had noticed that my G12 is better in the RAW mode about automatic settings, but still not perfect. If you are in JPEG, do you have the I-Contrast set on? If so, that can have an impact on the settings the camera wants to select. Try with the I-Contrast off to see if you get better results. The I-Contrast is not available in RAW, so that could be the difference here.

  • Fuji X10 RAW support on the way?

Are there any information regarding the support of the new Fujifilm X10 RAW files?
Unfortunately the RAF files are not the same like the X100.
There are already some rumors out there, that Apple is not going to support the X10...

I must admit - I am getting more and more tired of being an apple slave.
They published the latest camera update for aperture:
    Canon PowerShot S100
    Nikon 1 J1
    Nikon 1 V1
    Nikon COOLPIX P7100
    Olympus PEN E-PL1s
    Olympus PEN E-PL3
    Olympus PEN E-PM1
    Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ150
    Sony Alpha NEX-5N
    Sony Alpha SLT-A65
    Sony Alpha SLT-A77
Still no RAW support for Fuji X10 - well done Apple!

    Nikon D3000

    Hello
I just ran this update, but the computer froze before it could complete installation. After I restarted, I suddenly got a "Raw not supported" red-screen message for pictures taken with my Canon Eos 50D (which worked fine before the Raw support update installation...)
Does anyone know what could be the problem?
    TIA for any help!

  • Iphoto6 and RAW support

I've tried looking through Apples iPhoto 6 site and have not found anything stating improved Camera RAW support. Has anyone happened to stumble across anything yet. I'm curious whether Pentax has been added to version 6.

    Andrew

    here's the list from /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framersions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO .framework/Versions/A/Resources/Raw.plist
for Maxxum 5D support, change the 7D to 5D - at least that works in Preview and with DNGs and Aperture.

  • No RAW support for new Nikon P7000

Just received the new, compact, "pro-sumer" Nikon P7000 camera today. It's a beauty. High-end, finessed pictures in those situations where you don't want to lug a DSLR around. It's going head-to-head with the legendary Canon G11/G12.
One major "gotcha'" that I didn't know about until I started using the camera, is that the Nikon P7000 uses a proprietary RAW format. It's predecessor, the p6000, did too. However, while Aperture supports the older p6000 NRW "raw" format, it does NOT currently support the enhanced NRW+ format used by the p7000. f#$% !!!
This is truly annoying!! There is no reason that I can think of for the p7000 not to use the NEF raw format used by most other (Nikon) cameras. Thanks, Nikon!! /sarcasm
So this means that currently, RAW photos from the Nikon P7000 cannot be imported into Aperture. You have to set the camera to create "Fine" JPEG photos; which, granted, are pretty good. However, to get the advantage of RAW photos, you have to use the "ViewNX2" editing software that came with the camera. Blah!
Hopefully, Apple will step up, and the Raw Camera Support for Aperture will soon include the NRW+ format. Or even better yet, hopefully Nikon will see the error of their ways an migrate their Powershot cameras to the "standard" raw format, NEF, in an upcoming firmware release.

Yes, it is a problem. Apple loses lots of market share through slow response time in supporting new cameras. Adobe is usually faster, so a workaround may be to use Adobe's DNG Converter to convert the Nikon P7000 NRW files to DNGs that Aperture can digest.
Thanks for the pointer to the free Adobe DNG Converter. Even though it doesn't yet support the P7000, you're right in that Adobe may beat Apple to the punch. Plus, I just like the idea of the DNG format. The Converter looks like a handy tool to have in the tool chest. I've got my fingers crossed that it's AppleScriptable
The P7000 does look like the pocket camera many of us have been whining to Nikon about for years. I lacks swivel display but the huge size of the LCD makes up for it. I want one!
Despite my whining about RAW support, my initial impression after one day of shooting is that it's as great a camera as it looks on paper. Lots of control over the shot. Good, solid feel. Can get great shots in adverse (eg. low light) conditions. The only major annoyance I've noticed is slow RAW write times (several seconds using Class 6 card). I've heard some grumbling about AutoFocus issues, but I having had any problems with it yet. The swivel monitor isn't a big deal -- for me anyway -- because the 3" display is easy to see at any angle. Plus, I wanted rugged, and would worry about the swivel joint becoming a weak spot. BTW, you'll need some big pockets to call it a "pocket camera"; it dwarfs my Canon S90 (which I consider my pocket camera)
    Thanks again,
