Pre re install.

Hey every one just a quick question:
My computer has been crashing allot lately and the genius at the apple store suggested that i reinstall leopard. Since when i installed leopard a few months ago, i had done the archive and install But now that i have used time machine and my files are backed up, he suggested doing an erase and reinstall would probably help the bugs as well as the long time it takes to verify and repair permissions. My question is since the leopard install disk i purchased from the store was not the family pack am i going to be allowed to reinstall from this disk or will i have to repurchase leopard. And secondly when i reload my songs back into i tunes if they have been authorized on 5 computers already and have had a de-authorization once this year. Is there a way to contact I tunes and tell them the situation and allow then songs to be reauthorized?
Hope this makes sense
Thanks in advance
T

I'm not sure if you realize this but you've posted in the Apple TV forum. In future, you may want to try the Leopard forum.
Before you re-install, go to iTunes, and from the Store menu, choose "Deauthorize Computer". Then, when you're all finished, you can re-authorized the same computer.
Yes, you should be able to use the Leopard Install disc you purchased. You're not allowed to use it on multiple computers without the Family Pack. However, you can use it repeatedly on the same computer. Unlike some other operating system install disc, it doesn't "phone home". Very user friendly that way.
Best of luck.

  • LUM add/modity errors during pre-migration install

    OES11sp1.
Is there a way to make the pre-migration install of an OES server error free? seems like every time I've done it I've hit problems with really straightforward stuff. The install asks for existing servers with replicas, etc.. I put those in and things still error, like LUM add/modify "admingroup" and "admin" .. why?!
Opened an SR, novell hops on and they change the nam.conf ip address to the TEMPORARY ip address of the pre-migration server. Wont that cause issues later or is TransferID smart enough to fix that?
Not sure what services rely on LUM or what may/may not be working now
    Frustrated.

LUM is a PITA, IMO. I wish it would go away, but it won't.
Anyway, let me double-check my OES11 SP1 docs for install (we also use pre-migration pattern) and I don't recall any issues with that with LUM.
    HOwever:
I've had several customers that have had the issue ever since their first OES server went into the tree and never really got it solved. I suspect it may have had something to do with the original install not creating/updating the objects properly or something.
I have no idea why using the tempIP would matter, especially since pre-migration pattern doesn't put any replicas on the server, so it has to go out and contact a server to fetch the referrals anyway.
I got lots of work to do this weekend (scrubbing my docs for posting onto communities)
Send me a PM with your email address and I'll try to send you an advanced copy and you can peruse it. Not sure if it will fix your situation (it's entirely possible you're doing the exact same thing we are).

  • Possible to access existing PrE 8 projects with new full PrE 10 install?

    Greetings,
The functionality of my PrE 8 has deteriorated to the point it where it will barely run without crashing. When I first started using it last spring, it never crashed but now crashes repeatedly, usually at the end of a few hours of work (auto save every 5 minutes but somehow that doesn't work either). I suspect memory leaks (low resources-how can this program need 3 or 4 GB to run?) amongst many other problems. I have all updates and a video driver that Sony VAIO says is current.
I have numerous projects that I really need to complete so rather than spend countless hours chasing down all the possible fixes, I'm just going to surrender, give Adobe the ransome, and get PrE 10 and hope it's better, which seems doubtful.
I got my computer used with PrE 8 already installed but have no disks or serial number so that seems to preclude upgrading. After searching, it looks like not a problem to install a new full PrE 10 alongside my existing PrE 8 but I'm still unclear on if I will be able to access any of my projects in progress with PrE 8. Is there a way to save them or export them? Is the 64 bit PrE 10 going to be incompatible with my 32 bit PrE 8 projects?
If I won't be able to somehow access my exising projects and have to start over, that will be a big deterrent to getting PrE 10. I really think the 64 bit PrE 10 will make more efficient use of my system resources, but if I'm going to have to start over, I think the 32 bit Sony Movie Sudio would probably run better on this computer or maybe even the Cyberlink 64 bit will be better.
I have a Canon Vixia HF S20 AVCHD which records mt2s files and I want to shoot in 24fps. I want to export to Blu-ray and DVD. My computer is a Sony VAIO F13 series with an I7 quad core, 6 GB built-in, 500GB drive, Windows 7 Home Premium.
Thanks in advance and any info is appreciated.

The older Projects may, or may not Open in PrE 10. Much will depend on the complexity of the Projects, themselves. Only a test of the Projects will tell you whether they Open fine, with no problems.
I would work from Copies of the PREL files, just to make sure that the earlier versions' PREL's are safe.
Now, if you are having problems with PrE 8, it could well be that you will have the same issues with PrE 10, though most users DO find PrE 10 to be more stable, and especially than PrE 8, which was not a "revered" version.
This ARTICLE might be useful in helping sort out the problems with PrE 8, and would also be worthwhile keeping around, just in case you also encounter issues with it. That article starts with a checklist of things to get PrE to work best, then goes into OS and system tuneup tips, and finally lists many links for troubleshooting, working up in "degree of difficulty."
    Good luck,

  • Mac OS Lion CS 5.5 "Pre-Chrome" Install Problem / Solution!

After hours and days of frustration surrounding what should have been a very simple update from CS5 to CS5.5 on Mac OSX Lion (the latest version), I finally found a solution that makes perfect sense, and acutally works.
    Here's my brief rant:
Adobe - you seriously need to work on your Tech Support. I've been a customer since Photoshop 2.0 and this is no bueno. Having someone tell me to create an Admin user account on my system with username "test" and "no password" is not helpful nor a good idea. Suggesting that I open up all my permissions to  777 also not a good idea. You need to seriously review your Tech Support team's scripts. Either way neither of these soltuions worked. Anyways I am done with my rant as I want this article to be HELPFUL TO PEOPLE who are super frustrated like me.
    Here's what I discovered:
Here's the deal - if you upgrade to lion recently, you probably had an older version of a CS product on your computer. My guess is that when you migrated over some permissions got screwed up and the installer couldn't overrride the correct files it needs to because they are locked under a different user account (fair enough adobe, sounds more like Apple's problem). A friend suggested doing a hard reformat and reinstalling lion fresh via USB drive, probably a good idea but who's got the time?
So anyways, I kept getting a "pre-chrome" error in the debug output and kept seeing the "Accept Terms & Conditions" window no matter how many times I re-installed, wiped my files etc. Uber lame.
The solution turned out to be 'duh' simple from my PC user co-worker "Why don't you just install it under root access?" Ok, for those of you who don't know what root means, it basically just is the account who is authorized to write over all other user accounts. Apple turns this off by default because most people never need to user it. Unless you come across something like this...
    Steps:
    1. Uninstall anything you got going with CS, the more the better - you're going to reinstall it again anyways (just keep your serials around).
    2. Consider downloading the CS Cleaner product that Adobe offers and wipe it all down (probably not required but can't hurt).
    3. Follow these instructions on your Admin account to enable root temporarily: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1528 (BTW the Edit one is hard to find, they mean the acutal Edit menu on the top of the screen).
    4. Install your CS 5.5.
    5. This one is IMPORTANT - when it asks you to authenticate use your ROOT login and password, not your normal one. This grants the installer the abililty to write over other files.
    6. Finish the install, check it out. If it worked you probably want to de-activate the root login for safety's sake.

gdoddsdesign thank you for the great tips I am sure this will help other users within the forum.  You may still want to keep an eye on your administrator group permissions.  If you had to go to root to resolve the issue, and even the newly created User account had compromised permissions, then there could still be some problems out there.
Many times though once software is installed under a root user it will continue to work without any additional modifications needed on the administrator account.
I also really like the tip about disabling root user at the end btw.   Often users and technicians get so excited that the issue is solved they can forget this step.

  • PRE 9- installed extra content from DVD, but still getting prompt?

I just installed Premiere Elements 9 from DVD.
I also installed the second DVD of extra content.
When I start up the PRE 9 program, I get a prompt warning me to "Install Full Content- a reduced set of content... has been installed. You can install the full content by inserting your content DVD or downloading it."
Even though I had already installed the second DVD of content (which was a LOT of content!), I put in the DVD again. This time, the installer wanted to REMOVE the content, so I took the disc out before going any further.
I am not sure if the additional content was successfully installed or not. If so, how do I get rid of that popup prompt?
When I have a project open in PRE9 and open the Disc Menus tab, there is a dropdown box of menus by filter, including Entertainment, General, Happy Birthday, etc.
If I click on Entertainment, for example, I have a choice of Art in Motion, Music video, Performance Star, Broadway, Popcorn, or Stage. There is a Main Menu and Scene Menu for each of them. Happy Birthday has Balloons, Birthday Party and Kids Party. Etc.
Do I have the additional content properly installed, or is there supposed to be more than this? If there is, how do I get the PRE 9 program to recognize what I already installed from that second disc?
    My system:
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    16.0 GB RAM
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor 3.20 GHz
ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series graphics card

Post has been covered but , for me launcher pro slowed down my phone. But it does hide any app in the app tray you don't want to see and it keeps the app tray nice and clean, however the preinstalled apps cannot be removed.

  • Is it possible to resell pre owned/installed Final Cut Studio packages?

I have a general enquiry on the Apple Fial Cut Studio package. I have the commercial package with all manuals etc. which I bought from Apple. I have run into finantial difficulties. I was wondering if it is possible to sell the entire package on eBay easily... if so, what would I have to do? change of ownership etc. If this has to be done what will it mean and how hard will it be to do?
Your help would be MOST appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Mark
P.S. It seems to be impossible to find an e-mail address to ask Apple a question like this! How frustrating
MacBook Pro 2.16Ghz Intel DualCore Processor 2Gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It shouldnt matter if they have the IP tho surely, because I can travel around the world and still get my updates wherever I have a connection.
But basically what your saying is that I can send the whole package to the second party and tell them with complete confidence that they will be able to register it all online and get all necessary updates etc. as long as my computer doesnt use all that?
Sorry to be a pain, I just dont want to annoy anybody who wants to buy it!

  • User interaction from (pre/post) install/flight scripts

I have a perl postinstall script, I have the script running perfectly from the command line. it looks to see if certain processes are running, if they are it displays an apple script dialog box telling them to close the application.
there are two problems when i run from postinstall mode in the installer.
The dialog box does not appear, and the ps command comes up with a different list of running processes, i am guessing there is some sort of chroot jail going on with the installer process, that does not let it display items to the running window manager and prevents me from looking at running commands and i can actually understand security behind these thoughts, but is there a way around them?

I strongly suggest you ask this in the developer forum.

  • What is the difference between OSX 10.6 and 10.6 server? I need to install Snow Leopard in a Parallels VM and it only allows 10.6 server. Will Rosetta work if I use the server edition?

I MUST use an app that was discontinued which requires Rosetta, yet I also want to upgrade to Mavericks. I was told that Parallels and VMWare Fusion both support running Snow Leopard SERVER, but not Snow Leopard. Two questions: Will Rosetta run on Snow Leopard Server when it is running inside the Parallels/Fusion/whatever virtual machine which is running under Mavericks? The second question is: Is there any problem with running any specific software in Snow Leopard Server when it is set up this way?

    Richard Cartledge wrote:
The problem with client as virtualised OS is the Apple EULA, not a technical one.
I don't know if it works, or you're just not meant to do it.
PS. If you download or have Snow Leopard DVD, you can install Rosetta in later OSs, certainly Lion and Mountain Lion and Mavericks.
insert your Snow Leopard disc, open the Optional Installs folder on that disc, and double-click the Optional Installs.mpkg package. The Installer will open and you’ll be prompted to click Continue a couple of times and then choose a destination for the installation. Choose your startup volume and click Continue yet again.
In the Custom Install on “nameofvolume” window that appears, enable the Rosetta option and click Continue. In the next window click Install to do just that.
NB/ I don't have any old software to test to see if it actually makes it work!
    WRONG TWICE!
Bad idea to attempt to install Rosetta into Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks and good luck trying to remove it after that attempt.  Result: NO powerpc app will run after that installation and you will have to complete a wipe of your hard drive and a complete pre-Rosetta install to get rid of Rosetta!
It was a common Urban Myth that the Snow Leopard EULA prohibited its virtualization in Lion or Mt. Lion on a Mac.  That myth has been largely debunked over the last two years.
In addition, Apple's release of Snow Leopard Server at a 95% discount ($20) has rendered the issue largely moot!
OP: what application are we talking about here?
For example here is the long beloved powerpc application Appleworks running in Snow Leopard Server installed in Parallels for use in a post Lion world:
