PRE7 - clips are shimmering/flickering when an effect is applied

Hi. When I apply an effect to a clip (Black&White, rotate clip, etc) the clip starts to shimmer/flicker and is not as clear as the original, when i play it. however when i pause or quickly drag the bar through it, it looks normal. will my video come out ok when i burn it? thanks for any help anyone can give me. i'm using 2.5 Ghz quadcore pc with 4gb of ram.. so i don't think the problem is my pc.

The image-display that you see when you have paused, is the quality that you would get in the output.
Since these effects that you have applied, needs some computation, the real time playback is not able to compute this and show it in real time.
If you want to see the effects before outputting, you need to hit enter on the keyboard for the computation to happen. It would take a while, but you can be sure that what you see here is what you get. :)

• My video clips are just black when i import them to iMovie! (they are mp4) p.s. i have alot of clips

I keep importing all these video files which are mp4 format and they have thumbnail pics but when i hover over them to preview they turn black and i cant see any thing!?
do i have the wrong format or what? I have worked with imovie alot and this has ever happend...
HELP PLEASE!!

It is possible that the clips are are variant of h.264 that iMovie cannot read.
I would suggest that you get a free tool called MPEG Streamclip from squared 5 dot com.
Drag one of your clips into MPeG Streamclip. The File/Export Using QuickTime. Choose either the Apple Intermediate codec or the h.264 codec. H.264 will give you a smaller file. Apple Intermediate Codec will give you a larger file but smoother editing performance.
In iMovie, use File/Import Movie to import this new clip.
If that works, then MPEG Streamclip has a batch mode where you can do all the clips at once.

• When keying a green screen shot, the image being keyed goes a little out of focus when the effect is applied. How do you keep it sharp?

When keying a green screen shot, the primary image goes slightly out of focus when the effect is placed. What am I doing wrong??

Make a letterbox in Photoshop -two black stripes and a hole in the middle, place it on a higher video track.

• Clips are 'wrong size' when brought on to timeline

Hi
I've filmed some clips with new camcorder (AVCHD 1080 x50p) and set up project at 720 x 25p - hope I've got those figures right.
When I take clips to timeline I don't see full clip in program monitor (though I see full clip in source monitor) and have to re-size each clip.
Initially I see a central piece of the actual shot.
I suspect this may be due to the project settings - I have tried to take clips into Premiere via the 'new item' facility but it doesn't seem to accept them.
(The clips were brought into the PC by drag & drop - I took in the whole AVCHD file.
Can I adjust something to prevent having to resize each clip individually?
Many Thanks for any advice given
Norman

Norman,
As Harm says, the Sequence setting should match your Source Footage perfectly. You can Import your AVCHD footage into the Project, and then just drag the first Clip to the New Icon, to create a matching Sequence:

• Flash CS4: why movie clips are static when exporting to video formats ?

Does anyone know why the movie clips are non animated when I export my flash animation into a video format ?
Please see the next flash example I made: (4 KB)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22717206/Flash/flash_movieclip.swf
And now see how it looks like once exported into video format: (160 KB)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22717206/Flash/Video_movieclip.avi

You must need a suitable codec for that like DivX codec, it will also import the nested movieclip animations. otherwise whatever you have on the main timeline is exported for avi. you will get the codec on the export settings for avi.

• Timeline Saying Clips are Offline, when Browser Shows Clips to be OK

I have a few clips in my timeline that fews the OFFLINE WINDOW. Yet when I check my browser, the clips have no offline slash and can be seen as edited in the canvas. How do I make the clips show normally on the timeline. Also clips are trying to show the actual clip photo, bu only show half. And yes I have tried reconnecting the media, does not work.
Thanks

Trash your thumbnail cache file... it's location is set in the Scratch Disk Settings near the bottom of the window if you don't know where you've put them... just trash them and the offline media thumbnails will go away. It's caused by opening a project file without the media online, then saving it. The thumbnails don't get rewritten with the proper pictures when you do that.

• Confused why my video exports at 640x480 when all the clips are 1280x720

All of my clips are from a canon 7d shot at 1280 60fps mostly surfing so I can slow it down. I added one clip which is at 640 to the project and when I exported the project in H.264 or any other setting it is only at 640. So I went back removed the clip and tryed to export again and it still only does 640 even though all the clips are now at 1280. I would hate to have to edit all over again. Thanks for any help.

Thanks I realized I can click the wrench at the bottum right of the inspector box and change the properties back to 1280 so that helped but I couldn't change the FPS they are stuck on 30 not the end of the world. I think I must have accidently put a 640 clip as the first clip when I dropped into the timeline and even though I deleted it, it kept everything at that setting . It would be nice if you could change the properties after the fact.

I think it means "the sliders are all 0 so painting adjustments with this brush won't change anything." In other words, move one of the sliders to a non-zero position, for example Exposure from 0 to 1.0, and then see what happens. You can edit the brush and change it to do something other than Exposure +1.

• I used the ticker tape mode to add subtitles to a clip. When playing it in the pc, the Subtitles are fine, however, when playing it on the tv, only the top half of the words are visible. Any idea why?

I added subtitles to a movie clip using the ticker tape option. When viewing on the iMac, the words are visible, however, when playing it in the tv, only the top half of the words are visible. Does anyone know why?

I would agree with Keith Barkley, it may be the TV Safe Area. You can see what spots might be blocked out or cut off by going to iDVD and opening the original DVD project, under the View Menu > Show TV Safe Area. If your title gets cut off by the cropping rectangle displayed, that may account for the cut-off.

• 16:9 Aspect Ratio reverts to 4:3 when rejected clips are moved to trash.

Mini DV Tape imported to an event with Aspect Ratio Preference set to 16:9. Parts of some clips marked as rejected. When rejected clips are moved to trash the aspect ratio of both the Event and the Project revert to 4:3.

This has always worked for me:
FCP: File Export QTMovie... current settings.
COMPRESSOR: 16:9 High Quality 90 minute (choose ac3 for your audio in here)
Then, in DVDSP make sure the setting is correct in the above window.
Also - check your preview (forgot what it's called)you can change it to widescreen also. Dbl check there that indeed all is good.
Then, as said above also - run it on DVDPlayer in your applications folder. Don't watch it FULL screen, watch it as a window in your finder. There you'll get a read on EXACTLY what the dvd is sending... if you see a 4:3 window with letterboxing something is wrong. You should (SHOULD) see a 16:9 window with no distortion or letterboxing.
Once you determine that, the issue will be your setup of DVD player and TV.

• Problem with clip area occurred when table content is transited

Platform: JavaFX 1.2.1.
Hi all
Preface: I created my own table because the cell content should be not standart: buttons, progress bars, etc...and text as well.
There is no standart decision for this and simple there is no table control in JavaFx as well :) (swing JTable in a SwingComponent wrap
doesn't fix the problem - only combo box, check box, text box can be placed into a cell). So, I did the following: I created a sequence
of instances of the Group class. Each instance represents one cell of the table. I put a rectangle (Rectangle class) as a cell visualization
and other controls(buttons, progress bars, text, etc. as a cell content) to each Group instance (cell). All cells in the sequence are located
in rows and columns as in a usual table. and I put this sequence of cells to one common Group. The whole area of all rows and columns is large
so I use the clip variable of the Group class (common Group) and two scrollbars (vertical and horizontal) to transit the rows and
columns. It's simple thing as in a usual table.
Problem description: when I transit a thumb of a scrollbar (whatever horizontal or vertical) part of each border cells appear out of common
Group clip area, i.e. that part of each border cell (as on the left, rigth side of the clip area for horizontal scrollbar so as on the top, botton
side of the clip area for vertical scrollbar) that should be disapeared is appeared over other GUI controls located near this table. I tried to
use ClipView - the problem is reproduced as well. Screenshot here:

• I have MTS files imported from a Canon HD cam. They import into I movie and I see them in the Finder folders and they preview fine. I have a new project and some of the clips are freezing and some audio is now gone? Do i need a file converter and convert

I have MTS video files that import from a Canon Vixia HF S20 HD camera. I imported into I Movie. They converted into MOV files and I see them in the movies folder in finder. They view fine and run through the events folder in Finder. In I Movie, I created a new project and used a "Theme". The project worked fine at first but then some clips started to freeze and some lost audio. The effected clips are the same in the project library and in the event library, meaning they are froze in both places. As I said when i view through finder the MOV files preview and work fine. Is this inherent to MTS files using in I movie. SHould i consider using a file converter to convert to MOV files prior to importing into I movie.
I found on Apple support site info that states the MTS files can only be imported through the camera. I am developing my back up procedures and now I am faced with backing up in the original MTS files but not being able to reload if necessary into I movie. Any suggestions?

I'd like to add that after I import these clips without thumbnails, iMovie does give me an error and say that they could not be imported. No explanation as to why, though. Again, they play fine on my camera.
