Prelude to Premiere Pro audio sync?

I am editing my first feature length film in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. I would like to utilize Prelude, however I am a bit confused as to when and how to sync my external audio with my video. Should I first use Prelude, make subclips, make a rough cut and then ingest into premiere and sync. But how will my audio be able to sync subclips without my clapper board input? Any suggestions?

Hi Jenny,
Firstly, I have really enjoyed using Adobe CC this year, very happy with my choice to migrate from Avid to CC.
Just a bit of constructive criticism for the prelude team on this point-
The way I have interpreted it, Prelude is a tool to ingest, log and prepare footage for Premiere, and there is a bit of a gap when it comes to synching seperate audio and working with multicam clips.
For singlecam clips, the program works fine for the most part- but on most professional level productions, there will be either; a) External audio recorded, or b) Multiple synched camera angles.
If the suggested workflow for working with seperate audio is to go to premiere first and then export to prelude, I think that is a bit of a backwards step if prelude is supposed to be the 'prepping' program.
And as for multicam workflow, I don't think Prelude is capable of working there either.
I have a multicam interview, 30 mins long, and I want to log all the key dialouge in prelude- I can do one of the angles, sure, but is it posible for me to then transfer that metadata to a multicam sequence in Premiere?

  • Premiere Pro audio sync issues with 48khz audio on video file and 44.1khz audio on external audio

So, I recorded video and audio on my Canon 5D Mark II at 1080p, 23.976 fps, and 48khz, 16-bit Stereo audio. And I used a Zoom H4 to record an mp3 audio file at 44.1khz Compressed. When trying to sync the audio in Premiere Pro CC, the audio slowly loses sync over time. I already tried to convert the 44.1khz mp3 file to 48khz in Adobe Audition. But that didn't fix the problem. Any ideas?

There's always time-stretch changes to the audio file with "keep pitch unchanged" checked, I suppose. Mind you, I've heard of people doing it but haven't done it myself. There's other possible options I'm sure. There's been quite a few threads here on time-sync issues over time.

  • Importing a recorded Skype call into Premiere Pro & audio goes out of sync. PLEASE help!

Every time I try and import a clip it gets out of sync, but if I open the file in quicktime its perfect???

(Not sure why this response was originally rejected by the moderators, but am trying again.)
A solution that worked for us:
[EDIT] I do NOT work for any of the companies included in this solution, nor do I receive any kind of renumeration from them. I am recording the software and steps we used to overcome the problem of the original poster.[END EDIT]
The Skype Call Recorder (Ecamm) has 4 built-in converter/splitter apps (you have to look in the "Movie Files" folder to find them). We used the apps to split the recorded Skype video calls into 2 separate "conversations" and then used a free online converter (http://www.online-convert.com/) to convert the conversations into MP4s. Once the MP4s were imported into Adobe Premiere the audio lined up perfectly with the video.
    Hope this helps somebody.

  • Premier Pro Audio Sync Issues XDCAM EX1

Running Windows 7 Professional with Premiere Pro CS 5.5. Having issues with an 18 minute XDCAM EX1 clip. The audio is out of sync and sometimes doesn't play. When I drop the clip on the timeline, the audio wave file indicates that the audio is 1/2 the length of the video. I did not have this issue before upgrading my system from CS 5 to CS 5.5 and the clip works fine on my laptop, also running CS 5.5. Shorter clips don't seem to have this problem. The clip also works fine when imported to my FInal Cut system. I have reinstalled Premiere but it did not fix the issue. Anyone else have this kind of problem? Any ideas on where to look on my system to fix this issues.

Yes it is a spanned clip and yes the BPAV folder is intact. I am now having a similar issue now on my laptop with a different clip. Both clips that are having problems on my Widows 7 tower and laptop in Premiere Pro CS5.5 wil load and play fine on my Mac with the XDCAM transfer program...so this definetely seems to be a issue with Premiere Pro CS 5.5. Had no issues with CS5.

  • Premiere Pro Audio Slipping with AJA Kona LHI

I have noticed that when I run Premiere Pro CC (Latest updates) My audio playing back on the Kona and on the desktop will progressively slip out of sync when my Kona LHI card is enabled through the video output options. The sync issue goes away when the card is unchecked. The initial release of PRCC did not have this problem, but when the updates were issued soon after, the slipping issue cropped up. Anybody have these problems? Any suggestions?

I realize this is a year old but was this issue resolved?
For what its worth I've had/have similar problems with Premiere Pro CC and the AJA Kona LHi card. Just call AJA support 1-530-271-3190 and speak to their tech support gurus. Their folks are awesome. I just tell them what I'm trying to do and they will stay on the line and help until you can get things running again. No fees for customer support, nothing to register for... just call them and ask for help and they will!
I wish more companies operated this way.

  • Adding metadata in Prelude but Premiere Pro not retaining it after closing

While in Prelude in CC, I'm adding metadata in the Dynamic Media list; i.e., Scene, Shot Name, Shot Number.... I save the clips after each update and send it over to Premiere Pro by highlighting all the clips.  It arrives in Premiere Pro with the info attached and visible on the clip and in the metadata.  I save Premiere Pro and Prelude and when i reopen Premiere Pro there's no information there anymore; it's there in Prelude when I reopen that.  Not sure what's happening.  I did save the metadata separately also.

    Hi Jenny,
thank you for taking the time to reply.
The media is from a Canon 7D  ( MVI_####.mov ) shot in full HD in
    1920x1080p at 30fr
as I'm answering this email i'm checking that project... and now it's there
again in full.  I was missing metadata in the first 3 rows of data
information.... Scene, Shot Name & Shot Number.  I used those three columns
because that was the order in the metadata check list.
This is on my Win 7 computer w an Nvidia quadro fx 3800 card and 8 gigs of
ram.... I am still having some of the same issues as well on my Mac OS
X.... 12 core... I'll need to check that again too.
I'm not sure if this problem will be persisting... right now it's
inconsistent.  will continue testing on both computers... not ready to put
    it into my workflow yet.
    thanks,

  • Adobe Premiere Pro audio distortion

    Hi,
I have Adobe Premiere CS2 and some audio distortion problems. I captured a footage from my Sony DV Digital-8 camcorder. It's a standard DV footage with 16-bit PCM audio. When audio is nearly-peaking (not peaking), it gets distorted in Premiere, but doesn't in other applications (VirtualDub, Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, mplayer). I'm sure this is because an internal conversion (called conforming) from 16-bit PCM to 32-bit floating point PCM. Project Setting of the Audio Track is 48000Hz 32bit floating point - Stereo for a DV project, despites DV standard supports 16 or 12 bit Audio tracks. In user manual they write the following:
"For maximum editing performance and audio quality, Adobe Premiere Pro processes each audio channel, including audio channels in video clips, as 32-bit floating-point data at the project’s sample rate. To do this it must conform certain types of audio to match the 32-bit format and the project sample rate."
Well, if I'm a professional video editor, I can (and have the right to) decide whether which sample rate and bit-depth are the best for me, but they don't let me set audio other than the default, there is no option like bit-depth available not even when creating a NEW project. No problem if Adobe's genius developers thought 32-bit mixing provides much more quality, but if they forget to implement 16-bit to 32-bit internal conversion correctly, please let me decide to use at least a fallback method.
    Thanks for your help

Just looking at the waveform confirmed my initial reaction: Way, way
oversteered. Everything is clipped and your best approach is to
reshoot. That some players can handle this seriously mistreated audio
may be caused by audio limiters. They should, otherwise you would blow
    up your speakers.
Well, you can say that and if this sample was a music maximized with compressors, it would distort too. Sony Digital-8 camcorder has an internal limiter, so only soft-peaking can occur, but no serious distortion. Media Players (eg. mplayer) don't have limiters unless you specify an external limiter filter. I've already told this isn't the clip you want me to re-shoot. This is a sample I created to show you the problem. I sent this to one of my friends who has Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0. It doesn't distort there either. Have you tried loading it to an audio editor like Audacity or Adobe Audition? You can see no hard-peaking or distortion if you zoom in the waveform.
Waveform at 00:00:00:21. No distortion, only high levels can be seen on this waveform.
Waveform after 00:00:00:21. Soft peaking in right (bottom) channel.
I'd appreciate if someone took this seriously instead of repeating "reshoot it" and "high levels".

  • Premiere CS4 - Audio sync problems, Encoding Problems

    Hi,
I've been using Premiere CS3 for encoding 20-25 minute videos to deploy on a Flash Media Streaming server.
Today I upgraded to CS4 and everything that I render to FLV/FV4, H264 or Quicktime format has serious audio sync problems when I use AAC as the audio codec. Unfortunately for me, AAC is the codec that I need to use for the streaming server. The audio is synchronized to begin with, but it gets progressively unsynched as the video progresses.
Has anyone else had this problem? I'm using bitrates of 256 kbps, 512kbps for the video and 24 kbps / 32 kbps for the audio.
Another thing that I've noticed is that many of the options that I used when encoding videos are no longer available!! For instance, I cannot generate hinting tracks for Quicktime, and most of the audio frequencies are gone for Quicktime as well.
    What a disappointment:(
    -Chris

Seems to be an on going issue with no response from Adobe.  Have the same issue with the audio running ahead of the video.  (Cool if this was an old Japanese monster video).
Running CS4 PP & AME all updates are current.  Nvida Quardro CX (current drivers 4.20.006) used several formats (Elemental h.264 to MPEG-2) same issue.

  • Premiere Pro audio problem and crash

Yesterday I got an error multiple times which then led to PP crashing.
I imported an audio track, placed it in my time line, and when i went to adjust gain is when it would freeze/error/crash.
    The error i got was:
    [/Volumes/BuildDisk/builds/MightySilt/shared/adobe/MediaCore/ASL/Foundation/Make/Mac/../.. /Src/Mac/MacFile.cpp-1104]

In AME, please go to Preferences>General and disable the Import Sequences Natively option. Then export the sequence from Premiere Pro to AME and see if the problem persists.
If this change resolves the issue, then we'll be interested in getting a copy of the project, if possible, to test with.

  • Premiere Pro 2014: Syncing Settings Failed

I filed a bug report, but is anyone else having no luck at all syncing settings to Pr CC 2014?  I uninstalled and reinstalled the update just to be sure; can't get anything to work.

UPDATE 2: jstrawn was right.  Good things come to those who wait.  Syncing worked.  So I hit 'Clear Settings'.  Then sync didn't work.  And then it did again.  I'm happy and not messing with it anymore.
UPDATE: I managed to find my layouts and keyboard shortcuts and manually transferred them.  Good enough for me.  Cheers.
    Original Reply:
I ran into this issue an hour ago, and maybe my experience up to now can be helpful to tracking parts of the issue down.
Sidenote: Prior to today, my last sync was in September.  I am running Win7 Pro - 64bit.
I went to migrate my settings over from Premiere to Premiere 2014 and initially thought it had worked--unfortunately, the 2014 version had uploaded, now downloaded the prefs, despite my explicitly asking to download them.
In detail, I had gone to preferences, changed the default to "Always Download" and synced.  Upon reopening the new project, I noticed no migrated settings, and checked the preferences again.  It was set to default to "Always Upload" instead of Download.
I have now noticed that after every time I try to sync in Premiere 2014, if I then close and reopen the app, the default preferences behavior changes to "Always Upload".  Interesting.
I then went to Premiere CC to upload the correct preferences.  The error then popped up, over and over.  I came to this forum and saw a suggestion to try "Sign in as another user."  This went through without an error, but it did not upload anything.
This is my current state now:
    No more error.
Premiere Pro CC will NOT upload it's preferences to/from Adobe cloud servers.  I am not testing it's download capabilities for obvious reasons (I don't want my actual preferences to be overridden).
Premiere Pro CC 2014 will upload and download preferences to/from Adobe cloud servers.

  • Premiere Pro audio only editing

I have seen some threads on this but they do not completely answer my question and are already marked answer.
I want to edit out small segments of audio only.  There is no sound track or anything.  For example I want to remove a phone ringing.  I know how to unlink and razor the audio althoug I can only do it if I more the audio to its own location on the timeline.  My main issue is that the razor does not seem to work if I spin down the waveform display.  I am using the waveform to find my exact edit point then spin up the display and cut.  Seems strange, am I missing something.  on a mac Premiere 5.1

Have you tried the Premiere Pro forum?

  • Premiere Pro: Audio Keyframes don't work with reversed Audio?!

    Hello everybody.
Lately I reversed some Footage and its Audio with Premiere Pro (CC 2014), but when I then tried to keyframe the audiolevel for a fade in, Premiere showed a red horizontal line on the audio clip (between left and right channel)  that directly disappeared after it auto-rendered the clip. Next, the keyframes visually appeared as placed, but the audio played was untouched! I tried to keyframe some unreversed audio in the same sequence and this did work. Does it have to do with the reversed audio? And will it get fixed in a future update???
    Thanks in forward,
    Niko

Try nesting the clip and adding the keyframes to the nest.

  • Premiere Pro Audio unsynchron zum Video

    Moin!
    Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1920x1080 30fps 44676kbps [Video]
Audio: AAC 48000Hz stereo 375kbps [Audio]

  • Exporting from Premiere Pro Audio Out of Sync!

I am using the latest version of Permiere Pro and it is up to date. I  imported animation files that I did on Adobe Flash Professional. I made my movie and everything is fine. But when I go to export my project the audio becomes uncycned in the finish product. I am using Youtube 720 23.976, and change the frame rate to 24.  It has worked fine, on the first two videos I have done. I am using Quicktime to view the movies after they are exprted, and that is where I see the problem has occured. I am wondering what do I do so that when I have my exported movie, in the final product, the audio is cynced with the movie itself. Thanks for your help.

You post at 10:21 and at 10:24 you are again asking for a response

  • Premiere CS6 Audio-Sync Late

I downloaded and installed Adobe Production Premium CS6 TRIAL on two separate PCs and the issue persists on both.
Basically after I encode with video in WMV v7 codec the audio is in sync at the beginning but drifts over the course of the movie and by the end (100 minutes later) it is late by 3-4 seconds.
The video and audio are perfectly in sync in the Premiere video monitor, just not after export.
Both PCs are fairly new, one 9 months old and the other 2 yrs old, plenty of RAM, Windows 7 Professional, etc. The hardware/software does not seem to be the reason anyhow since CS5.5 encodes it just fine, all in sync.
The source video is a h264 movie, 720x486 1Mbps. I have a timeline where I match that to a French MP3 audio and export it to the following video/audio specs. The MP3 portion makes no difference since even just exporting the h264 by itself to the codec specs below will result in the original English audio track being late. Even using a different source format makes no difference, same late audio results.
I tried exporting both directly and from Adobe Media Encoder, same result (as I would have expected).
    The export format is this:
    Video:
    Windows Media Video Version 7
    720x486 Progressive
    CBR, 500kbps
    50% quality
    1 second keyframes
    5 seconds buffer
    Audio:
    Windows Media Audio 9.2
    128kbps Stereo 48kHz
The same exact timeline exported using Premiere CS5.5 work just fine, as I mentioned earlier.
I tried exporting another timeline to QuickTime Animation (it just happened to be the codec we used for that high-res project) and that is in sync.
At this point I am at a loss since the sync issue can't be due to the fact that this is the TRIAL version, it would make no sense since the WMV codec is free.
I think this is clearly a bug. What do you think? Any help is appreciated.
    Valerio

I had a similar problem with cs6 encoding wmv filess with audio out of synch. ALSO the video looks wicked interlaced, or something. not sure of the technical term for what I am seeing but there are noticable horizontal lines especially noticable when the image pans.  since i edited this in cs6 i couldnt open it in cs 5 so i had to export it as a .mpeg and open THAT in 5 and then recode it to a wmv. which amazingly enough looks just fine (for a wmv). I am about to migrate all this to a new computer with much more RAM , a i7 3930 with a SSD and a gtx570, so I will wait and see how it performs over there.
