Premiere 6.5 jumpy timeline
I've been using Premiere 6.5 in combination with a Matrox RT2000 for the longest time. But I replaced the Matrox with a Canopus ADVC110 just recently.
Now, when I capture into Premiere, it looks like I'm just capturing I-frames. With the Matrox card the video played very smooth. When I view the video in Windows media player, or some other player it plays correctly. But, I'm used to Premiere 6.5 for editing and editing will be hard if the video jumps to one still frame after another.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening?
Specs: WinXP pro. Mobo is a Tyan Tiger S1834. Two P-IIIs @ 933 mghz each. Still using the Matrox G400 for a graphics card. 1 gb of Ram.
So, the system is not powerful enough for one of the Adobe upgrades and I'm stuck with this system for now. But Premiere 6.5 worked great until now.
This is aimed a Premiere Pro, but may help - First, work through the steps here http://ppro.wikia.com/wiki/Troubleshooting

A series of video files (0001.MTS to 0005.MTS) were imported into premiere, when moved to timeline premiere combined them and made them look like one long clip named 0001.MTS. Multiple motion edits and opacity edits were made. When project manager moved the project, the actual video content of 0002.MTS to 0005.MTS was missing(source clips are still there but they were playing and working as part of that 0001.MTS timeline clip before). Those parts of the 0001.MTS clip in the timeline were Danger Striped and can be relinked but now have no edits anymore. The edits are apparently only linked with the original 0001.MTS source clip but extend beyond the actual range of the actual source clip. At the time I thought it was weird that premiere displayed the whole string of clips as one (with one name and no breaks) but it all works in the original project file but cannot be transferred to another location without multiple clips showing Danger Stripes.I need to move it and preserve the dozens of motion and opacity edits linked to the apparently oversized timeline clip. HELP!! any ideas?
I did not nest any clips or sequences, premiere just seemed to combine the clips under one name when I moved them to timeline.

Jumpy timeline, dropped frames - please help!
I am experiencing a persistent problem with a jumpy timeline that surges forward - (it looks like dropped frames). I have all of my media on an external hardrive with 160 GB to spare, I have formatted that HD as Mac OS extended "Journaled". I have made RT as "Safe" and video quality as "dynamic", frame rate as "dynamic". It seems to be unnoticable when I reduce the size of the canvas to below 50% but at that point I am going cross-eyed in trying to decipher the picture on the screen.
Question 1:
Do I need to reformat my HD without " Journalled" or is this not a problem?
Any other ideas how to resolve?
Question 2:
What is Pulldown Pattern and what setting is best for my project (720 x 480 DV/DVCPRO - NTSC 29.97 fps)?
Any help in these matters would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)Thanks for your suggestions.
All in all, I tried everything but to no avail. i suspect that in my trying to figure out solutions, i may have made some illogical formatting/preferences for my media and project on the hole. I ended up just starting from scratch with a new project, rudimentary preferences, imported my media - and it has been perfect ever since.
For anyone with similar issues, I highly recommend reading this article. It troubleshoots everything having to do with this subject.

Premiere Elements 11 Mac Timeline rendering issue
Every time I try to render my video in Premiere Elements 11 on my Mac the program shuts down. Please help,
briank
What are the formats on the Premiere Elements 11 Mac Timeline whose contents you are rendering to get the best possible preview? Do you have this problem with specific media source, and does the problem go away in a new project?
When you drag your file as the first file dragged to the Timeline, do you get an orange line over it or is there no colored line over it then?
If at this point there is an orange line over that content and you Timeline render, is that when you get the crash?
Or, does the crash occurs when you are doing a Timeline render because you have just edited one of the Timeline components? If this is the case,
what effects did you apply to the source and what edits did you perform on it?
If you go to the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder in the Adobe Folder, how many preview files are piled up there?
Is your computer connected to the Internet? And, are you getting messages about rendering activation needed at the Timeline level?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
Thank you.

Premiere does not export timeline... Urgent!
Hi there,
I just came back from grading with my 40 minutes film.
They gave me a 4K 10bit DPX sequence.
I dropped in into my timeline, added some effects and want to export the film with audio now.
Unfortunately Premiere and Media Encoder do not export the film.
I can't even render the timeline with the command "Render Timeline".
I'm on the latest Premiere CC on Windows 7 Professional.
ThanksEvery time I tried to export the timeline Premiere started rendering audio clips.
I had about 200 seperate audio files spread across the timeline.
After the audio rendering was done Premiere wouldn't start with the video. It just stuck at 0 percent.
I just made a copy of my project and deleted all the audio files from the timeline.
Now premiere is rendering and exporting without any problems.
I might have to merge the audio channels into one file and then put it all together. -
Premiere Elements stops playing timeline randomly
Hi,
since some days, Premiere Elements 10 stops randomly the replay of the timeline. Sometimes after 1 second, sometimes 20 seconds. And always on different positions ... between to cuts, at a transition, ... not reproducible.
I'm using PE10 for years with the same machine and the same MOV-Videos from my Canon cameras ... simple cutting, arranging, transitions, nothins spectecular.
My machine is a Window 8 64bit PC, i7 CPU and 8GB RAM with a GeForce 9500GT.
The only thing, I changed was the operating system from Windows 7 to Windows 8 some weeks ago.
Isn't PE10 not compatible with Windows 8? Or what can be the problem behind the random stopping of the replay?
Thanks
KonradThank you Steve, for your fast response.
I don't think, its a mismatch between video and project settings, because:
a) I created new projects, imported the mov-files and where asked to adapt the project settings to match the video (awnsered to do it)
b) I tried many "old" PE10 projects that worked for months ... same result ... stopping replay after some seconds or less.
My camcorders are a Canon EOS 500D and a Canon S95 ... both not connected but imported the plain MOV-files into the PE project.
If I drop the videos into the timeline, there are no redlines above ... only if I apply transitions between to clips there is a small red line as long as the transition.
I also tried to pre-render the workspace by hitting ENTER (a thing I never had to do before) but this also doesn't help. -
Does Premiere CS6 have a timeline "Fit to view"?
I'm a former FCP editor of 8 years and a new convert to Adobe Premiere since Apple's introduction of Final Cut X.
Trying to make the adjustment and get used to some of the new functions and keyboard shortcuts.
One thing that I'm not able to figure out is how to do a "Fit to View" for the timeline contents. In Final Cut, there was a keybaord shortcut (Shift-Z) that would scale the timeline so that it automatically framed all of the contents of the timeline. I used this function a lot and am hoping that it exists in Premiere. Can't seem to find it though.
Any thoughts?Use the "\" key for fit to window. If you go the keyboard shortcuts dialog and set the keyboard to FCP 7, you can use Shift+Z.

2013 iMac // 10.9.3 // Premiere Pro CC 2014 (latest update)
I have been editing a project for a few days, and it just started giving me issues on my last run through it before exporting.
I have dealt with many problems with PP before, but I honestly don't even know what's going wrong here. I cannot pinpoint the issue. It seems to be a number of things. I started by updating PP and CUDA. Nothing. So I continued.
1) I was having problems rendering, so I figured I'd delete the preview files and start from scratch. When rendering the entire project, it would get to about 60%, then stop and hang there. After five minutes of watching it, I would quit PP. Even though it would look like it had quit, it would still be running in Activity Monitor and the little light underneath it in the dock would be on, so I have to force quit.
2) It was odd because the spot where it stops rendering is the sport where, if I scroll through the timeline, the Program window will freeze on one frame. Then it doesn't matter how much I move the playhead, it won't show any other frames. Nor will the sequence play at all after this. So I'd quit again.
3) I went back to another project and rendered everything in it - fine and dandy.
Why is this giving me such a problem? If anyone needs anything else from me to properly diagnose this, please just say so! Thanks for the help.Sorry 'bout the time lag. Our new firm just started its first large project, and as the tech geek for the photo-part of it, been kinda busy.
So there's clearly a problem with the project file having gotten corrupted, but ... when it hits the footage it choked on before, it choked again. There's some kind of glitch here that has to to with PrPro interacting with those files. I'm wondering if a file header somewhere has a digit that can confuse PrPro or something? I do recall a couple issues of a similar nature that eventually involved people sending a bit of the nasty footage to an Adobe staffer, who poked through behind the scenes and found something that was not exactly what it might best have been in a header or something. Altered that, PrPro & footage liked each other again, everybody else happy. But that's the sort of ish that one needs experience at ... and I've got none.
There's been times also where people have split a project up ... right on the edge of the Problem. Three parts to their project, in separate project files. First "good" part, and rendered it out as a separate project. Next project, the "troubled" footage that worked by itself, as again its own project, and rendered out. Then the final & also untroubled part, again rendered out. I've heard of both taking those into QuicktimePro (if appropriate codec) and uniting in one continuous piece, I've also heard of people who took three PrPro projects that had been rendered out separately (if I recall one was probably about six parts, a long & complex bugger) and brought those rendered-out parts back in to make a final project with everything in it. In fact, there are a number of people who split their larger projects into chunks, that are finished separately, then combined in a final PrPro project for final polishing as their normal work habit.

Premiere CS4 crashing when timeline opened
Everytime I open a timeline in Premiere CS4 it crashes on me.. does this happen to any
one else?Hi,
This link shows about 5 incidents of your problem in a forum...short little posts about the same problem...
As you can see ( only takes a sec to read them ) there are a number of different " solutions" to each posters problem...
http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/adobe-creative-suite/470416-premiere-cs-4-crashes.html
That includes ( as you can see ) a bad memory chip, not having the latest video card driver, dynamically linked assets, re-install of Operating system, etc..
It gives you a good idea how it is very helpful to supply as much info as possible...
Good luck

Premiere cs4 freeze on timeline drag
Hey,
Basically i cant do much of anything in premiere now because when i drag items to the timeline, or when i move an item i already dragged there, the program freezes. this goes for jpgs, pngs, avi, etc.

Premiere Pro 5.5 timeline timecode question
Does Premiere Pro 5.5 output TC on HD-SDI when using Kona 3. There have been reports by users that when recording the HD-SDI output (like to a Ki Pro Mini) that they are not seeing any Timeline Timcode coming out the spigot. Any Adobe folks or others know if this is true of false?
As a preemptory response...yes I am in touch with AJA engineers as well to try and get an answer to this question

I'm running a 2013 iMac i7 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096mb. 24Gb ram. Latest update of Premiere Pro CC. My sequence is 23 minutes long, XDCAM EX. Most of my footage is Sony AVCHD.
When I attempt to export the entire sequence, it will go approx 75% and then stop, giving the error box: "A serious error has occurred and Premiere must shut down, we will attempt to save your project..."
This happens whether the sequence is entirely preview-rendered or not, and no matter the settings in the export window. However, if I mark the sequence and export it in 2 pieces, both sides of the sequence will export.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere, tried making new projects, imported the sequence, trashed the render files and media cache, trashed QT plugins, removed filters from clips... no solutions yet.
General response of Premiere seems to be generally slower than usual as well, and this problem has only recently started. I haven't needed to export my project for a couple weeks, so I'm not sure when exactly it may have started.
Below is the error report, I hope someone is able to help me with this... thank you.

If I split my sequence into 2, first using only a couple min with 4k footage and NO high res stills, it takes nearly 3 hours, seems to want to crash mid way through again - but doesn't.
Then exporting the final 90 seconds of the sequence, with a couple small 4k clips and about 2000 high res stills (I left them at 6000 pixels) renders in about 40 min and doesn't hiccup whatsoever.
it does not seem to be related to the stills.
most 4k footage is mjpeg from Canon 1dc
This was on a second machine - a new Macbook pro i7- (if I try to render sequence all at once- same crash as on iMac)

Adobe Premiere Elements 10: Buggy timeline?
So, after spending 1-2 months on trying to get PRE8 to work with FRAPS and setting it up, I have met nothing but trouble.
So I thought that it would be a good time to update myself, maybe. I decided to try a newer version of the program and
downloaded a trial for PRE10. I think it's great. My renders are improving in speed and quality and the playback is alot
better. BUT. The timeline is really buggy, and it is really, really, really annoying me. It takes more than double the time
to edit my footage and it just looks disorienting.
How do I fix this?PRE uses codecs installed with QuickTime to render it's own displays. I believe it is to do with H.264 clips and so may be relevant to FRAPS clips which I think are highly compressed. It is this high compression and no direct editing of the FRAPS formats that makes it ill suited to PRE.
So yes, I say install the latest version. And as for those other drivers - did you check at the manufacturer's download sites? You cannot rely on Windows Updates to keep your drivers current. They are usually many months, sometimes years, out of date and worse, the occasional driver update from the Windows Update site can install older or incompatible drivers.
So go to the relevant site (AMD, nvidia, or Intel) and check - it only takes a moment.
Cheers,
Neale

Premiere Pro Serious Error: Timeline Blacked Out! Wont Open HELP?!
I was editing, when I nested a already nested Mulitcam Edit Sequence in order to trim it down, and when I did suddenly the Audio Tracks on the Timeline like blacked out, bets way to desrcibe it, and now it says Serious Issue, closes out and won't repon. I restarted my computer and that project ONLY wont open. It is saved and all, plus other projects will open. ANyone had any idea what to do?
ThanksI recall reading from another user who had an issue when nesting an MC edit, though I don't remember the details, or if a solution was found. You might try a forum search.
