Premiere Elements 12 - Gaps in audio playback

Hello everyone!
I have a problem with Adobe Premiere Elements 12: when I play video in timeline or preview window, there are lots of gaps and pauses in audio playback, even though video is playing smoothly. Usually the pattern goes like this: 2 seconds of clean audio - 0,5 seconds silence - 2 seconds of clean audio... etc.
I have tried the following:
- change audio buffer settings
- change audio device (I have tested with integrated audio chip ("High Definition Audio"), M-Audio Fast Track Pro and cheap USB audio interface - same results with all of them)
- start a new project with correct settings and import only one file
- disable background antivirus monitoring
Usually source material is AVCHD 1440x1080 25fps (PAL, MTS-file) from small Sony camera, but this problem seems to continue even if I insert only still photo and mp3 audio to timeline. CPU load is about 6% during playback. It seems like Premiere Elements makes these gaps to playback signal before sending it to audio hardware?
Computer specs: Intel Core i7-4770 @ 3,4GHz, 16 GB RAM, 128GB SSD drive for OS & software and 2.0TB 7200 rpm drive for video, Intel HD Graphics 4600, Windows 8 (64bit).
I would be really grateful if someone could give me some tips to solve this annoying audio playback problem.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that this problem occurs all the time - even when video is rendered in timeline.

Thanks for the quick response, TonyPh12345.  Clearly not what I was hoping for but not unexpected. BB

  • Premiere Elements 11 - No audio on playback using MP4 or MOV video files

    Hello,
I've recently started using Premiere Elements for a project I'm working on and I'm learning as I go.
When I'm adding a video that plays audio in another program to Premiere, the audio won't play.
I've checked the audio and audio hardware settings and they both seem fine.  The mixer is not muted and when I publish the file, there is still no audio.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dale

I am assuming that you are working with Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12. On what computer operating system are they running?
Can you open your .avi file in the Elements Organizer 12 and playback the file there and hear audio in the playback?
We have just helped a Premiere Elements user resolve a no sound with .avi file in another thread. Her answer was to update Premiere Elements 12 to 12.1 (See opened project Help Menu/Update.) Why is there no sound on avi files?
The details are in the link cited in my conversions with the user Vickie.
The full video and audio properties of the problem files are needed to evaluate situation such as you describe. In the case of the other user, she was not able to give us anything beyond .avi file. But, fortuately that 12.0 to 12.1 suggestion came to the rescue nonetheless. Bottom line is that, if the 12.0 to 12.1 Update does not resolve your issue, then we will need to go "by the book" and gather file properties, project settings, and the like to try to target the cause of your audio issue. Have you added to this project any narration clips from the program's Narration Tool?
If you create a new project, can you hear the audio from this .avi file in it? Is the problem confined to one .avi file or to any of these .avi files that you import into new or pre-existing projects. Can you hear the audio from non .avi files?
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere elements 12 - no audio

Longtime Photoshop Elements and Premiere user... now on v12.  Premiere seems to work fine until I just realized there is no audio...
I can't  hear audio in the preview playback
there is no audio track at the bottom of the screen
when I write out MP4 files, no audio is present.
Any ideas?  O/S is Windows 8.1

    Hi A.T.
Here are responses to you questions...
Did you update it yet from 12 to 12.1 via the opened project's Help Menu/Update? YES
You say that you are a longtime Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements user. What was the most recent version of these programs that you worked with and on what computer operating system immediately before going to version 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit? I've used 3 or 4 prior releases.  I just upgraded from v9 => v12.  v9 was running on Win7; v12.1 is running on Win8.1 (64-bit)
Are you working in the Expert or Quick workspace of Premiere Elements 12? Primarily Quick, but I use Expert when I need to manipulate sound
Because of the longtime in your description of your programs usage, I hesitate to ask, but I will anyway so as not to take anything for granted.
    a. Are you working Run As Administrator as well as from User Account with Administrative Privileges? I am the only user of the machine, so my user account and Admin are one in the same.
    b. Do you have the latest verison of QuickTime installed on your computer? Yes
    c. What are you or the project setting as the project preset to match the properties of the source media?
    d. What are the properties of the source media?
    e. What are the details of your export to a .mp4 file?
Have you gone through the drill of checking the ASIO settings in preferences? Yes Can we assume that the no audio is only in Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit?  Correct
Are the Volume settings (Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/Volume Panel) as well as audio clip rubberband) OK? Not sure...
Could you post a screenshot of your workspace where you say that there is no audio track? The audio track is physically present in the input sample, is just not audible.  When I write out a MP4, there is no audio track present.
Have you attempted to delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and/or the 12.0 Folder in which it exists? No... Nof familiar with doing that.

  • DVD burned in Premiere Elements 4 freezes on playback

I have a Dell with Windows Vista Home Premium and I use Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 for video editing.  Recently, I've encounterd a problem with my burned DVDs freezing during playback, especially near menu markers, on a variety of stand alone DVD players.
I've been searching various forums to find a solution.  I was told it was a problem with cheap media so I've tried various name brands on the DVDs with no cure.  I was told to reduce the burn speed on the DVD recorder, but  I have no idea how to change the burn speed on the DVD recorder  I was also told to burn the project to a DVD folder and then import it into the software thant came with the DVD recorder.  I burned the PE4 project to a DVD folder but can't figure out how to open it in Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 in order to try a different burning software.
So how do I change burn speed on the PC's DVD recorder?  How do I open the PE4 project in Roxio?  Can anyone recommend another solution?

Don't discount any of the posted suggestions, but I work with VOB type files often, and here's what I found works best (for me any way).
When and if at all possible, always convert VOB type files to DV-AVI, then import this into PE for editing.
First you need to combine all the VOB's off of one DVD disc into one large VOB file.
This will eliminate the OOS (out-of-sync) issues you are seeing between audio and video.
    View this link for details:
    http://muvipix.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2469
Once combined, then use Prism to convert the single VOB into the DV-AVI format.
Use this FAQ link for Prism or Win Movie Maker convert options:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
I have found large VOB and MPG files to be a challenge to work with within PE, but once converted via the method described, PE is very stabile and the editing experience goes up an order of magnatude.
Convert the VOB's, trust me on this one...

  • Premiere Elements 11 crashes during playback after adding PiP

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 11, up to date, and Windows 7 home up to date. This is a new problem that just started with my most recent project. I have done these types of edits and PiP's many times with success with the same type of source video formats, etc.
The problem: I add a small clip of video over the main video timeline as Picture in Picture. It adds to the timeline successfully and I can even play it back ok (before rendering). If I add a transition to the front of the PiP, it will crash during playback (pre-render). Or, if I render the timeline before adding the transition, it will also crash during playback once it gets to the PiP.
I tested PiP with still pictures and that works ok, it only crashes on video PiP. I have tested different video formats (from GoPro and from Panasonic camcorder) with the same results (crashes). I have uninstalled Adobe Premiere as well as Quicktime and re-installed them, same results. I am quite frustrated with the constant crashes, especially since I have done a dozen or more videos the same exact way using the same cameras and same types of video files.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Justin

So I created a new project using the project preset "DSLR 1080p30 @29.97". Everything worked fine in that project using the same source videos and doing PiP (tested with both methods).
I opened the project that was giving me problems and the PiP worked when using your approach of dropping the PiP clip onto Video 2 then scaling it down. I then deleted that PiP and re-added it the way I was doing it before, and it crashed the first time I tried to play it back.
I closed down Elements and again tried to reproduce the crash the same way, but this time it worked and did not crash...I tried multiple times to reproduce the crash, sometimes it would, sometimes it wouldn't...
So, I don't know exactly what the problem is. Lastnight I could reproduce the crash every time by either rendering the PiP or adding a transition to the front of it (then playing it back), every time it would crash. Now it is behaving differently.
At any rate, I will start using the correct project settings going forward and know that I can PiP using the other method as well. Maybe the project that is giving me problems is just corrupted or something, I'll toss it an start anew.

  • Premiere Elements 11 AVI Audio Issue

    Hey there,
I'm fairly new to this software and am playing around in it to get a feel so bear with me if I'm completely overlooking the source of my problem.
When I import my video to the editor, about an 8 minute .avi clip, the video plays at regular speed but the audio sounds like it's slowed immensly. (A low growl, can't tell if it's only bass or the audio slowed to 400% about.) I've tried speeding up the clip (audio included) and it just becomes a faster version of the slow growl audio. The original video plays fine in the clip organizer and in windows media. I've tried saving, rendering, etc. but it doesn't help. Non .avi clips seem to work fine, it's just the one's from my screen recorder (which may be the issue) that 'brake.' I hope someone understands what my problem is, any misunderstandings, feel free to ask.
    Thanks for your time, cheers.

  • Will premiere elements process 32kbit audio?

I have captured a video from a mini DV cassette but audio from only one of the stereo tracks appears on my timeline.  My audio monitor tells me that both 12bit, 32kbit tracks are reaching the computer. Has anyone an explanation please?

    Marvin,
Yes you can do what you want with Premiere Elements - but I have noticed that there are people who are very knowledgeable in Photoshop Elemnts who like ProShow Gold for making their slide shows. My understanding it can make both exe (run on a PC slideshows) and DVDs playable on a TV.
For your evaluation between ProShow Gold (by Photodex) versus adding Premiere Elements to your Photoshop Elements, I suspect that "Add some video from my still camera (see above) to improve the show" may be significant - how much video do you have, what format is that video, how much will you edit the video and what other software do you have that can do trimming and simple edits of your video files?
    My suggestion is that
-- you go to http://muvipix.com/phpBB3/ and sign up for its free forums. Within those forums, there is a forum titled "ProShow series software"
-- include in your post as much information as you know about the format of the movie files from your camera. Identify the resolution that you choose for movie recording and what other software you might use for editing the movie/video.

  • Premiere Elements 12 MP4 Audio out of Sync

Hi, I have just purchased Premiere Elements 12 and im editing MP4's but it seems that for some reason when i import them into PE12 the audio and video is fine up to a certain point then for some reason the audio gets out of sync. But when i play the raw file in VLC its totally fine =\ Anyone have any ideas?
Windows 7 64 Bit with 64bit Version installed.
P.S It seems to just happen on longer videos around 10mins
The only way ive managed to fix this is ungroup the audio and video and cut the audio down so its in sync.. im not doing that every time. Pretty dissapointed with this software tbh =\

This is not Adobe. This is a user to user forum.
If you want to contact Adobe, the way to do that is via its Adobe Chat for questions specific to Premiere Elements 12 (the current version, while it still is the current version).
This is the link to Adobe Chat for you to explore:
    Contact Customer Care
NVIDIA Shadow Play that you are using, apparently for screen capture purposes, is a NVIDIA product. Have you contacted NVIDIA about its product which appears to be a "beta" version at that?
If you can supply more details about your source, perhaps I could spot the core of the issue. Properties from a video audio properties readout program such as MediaInfo would be very helpful in this regard. I find it curious that the properties readout that you post has no Video and Audio bitrate. The video compression shown appears to be H.264 and the audio format seems to be AAC. But what is the wrapper format as represented by the file extension of the file.
An aside....By the way, QuickTime is a requirement for Premiere Elements (any version). And it, like Premiere Elements needs to be run from a User Account with Administrative Privileges and often also with Run As Administrator applied.
Please clarify, you seem to be saying, that 4 or 5 months ago, you could work with "NVIDIA Shadow Play Beta" recorded video in Premiere Elements 12  without issue, but now you cannot?
    a. Do you have the audio out of sync video issue with both the video recorded 4 or 5 months ago and the video recorded today?
    b. Is the problem gone for both when you roll back the driver version to what it was 4 or 5 months ago.
The answers to both of those questions would be a good starting point.

  • Adome Premiere Elements 7.0 Video Playback jitter

Hi Having problems playing videos in Premiere elements.
Once imported I them imported into premiere elements and then play it- the video is jittery and not smooth. Playing it in more basic players seems to not have any problems at all.- I'm unsure why this is occurring in premiere.
Laptop Specs are 2.0MHZ CPU,2GB RAM 20GB Free HDD Space- files are 20MB.
Ive defragged the drive and gone through and cleaned up things- can anyone advise where I start and what things may need configuring etc...- this occurs to any video played in Adobe Elements premiere 7.0. Files are imported from a Sony handy cam HDR-SR11
    Kind Regards John

You've got a number of problematic issues, John.
For one, your computer is underpowered. A laptop running 2 mhz is barely fast enough to run the program, even editing standard video -- and 20 gig of free hard drive space will not likely be enough to allow for scratch disk files for any intensive video work and the fragmentation and paging that always happens on a C drive.
But you've compounded all of that by trying edit AVCHD video, probably the most challenging, intensive format to edit on any computer. Most people who are successfully editing AVCHD are doing so on state of the art quad-core computers.
So, unfortunately, you're just not going to be able to work with this program, editing that video on this computer. Sorry.
The FAQs at the top of this forum offer our suggestions for minimum computer specs. The computer at the bottom of the list would most likely be required to edit video from that camcorder.

  • Premiere Elements 7: video/audio asynchronous in recorded HDV only in PrEl

I recorded five tapes with PrEl with my HDV camera (Sony HVR-HD1000E, european version) on my harddisk each as one large MPEG-2-file. I edited for hours and found that the audio increasingly did not match video in only one of the large files (about 3 sec. max; although the others are the same kind: HDV MPEG 1080i 25fps 48kHz) in preview, timeline and export.
    I tried:
Playback with VLC/Media Player Classic and Womble MPEG Video Wizard is okay in every test case until the end of the video file.
opened the file in a new HDV 1080i project but the same
re-record: First it seemed to be okay, but today I found it's the same again. No frame drops reported (option "report frame drops", translated from german, was active), too.
I tried to demux with ProjectX and PVAstrumento ("No System Header found"). Both programs canceled with errors. Squared 5 MPEG Streamclip says "warning: 8 data breaks"). Again successful demuxed with ProjectX says (translated german): "first video PTS starting later than last PTS in stream! Critical for synchronicity ... 11 frame(s) (264ms) added".
    used MPEG2Repair: even worse results
re-record with HDVSplit: aborts every time at different timecodes because of frame drops
re-record with VLC (and conversion from m2t with MPEG Streamclip later to MPEG), same result: asynchronous only in PrEl
In the clip properties in PrEl audio source is "compressed" but audio project setting is "32-bit floating-point".
But I cannot change this (can I?). May be that's the problem?
I had several crashes during record: Visual C+ Runtime Error, suddenly began to play fast forward etc. but the
video files I use now had no interruptions.
Perhaps I should use another hardware to record, copy the miniDV tape ... But I've got no other hardware and my time is running away. Spend one day and a half on this.
Any ideas why only one file is asynchronous and only in PrEl?
    Thanks.

Thanks again for your fast help!
Yes, I used PrEl over FireWire to capture. (Later I tested HDVSplit and VLC as described.)
My project is a HDV-project. There are no red lines above HDV-clips. But I use DV wide files in this project, too. They naturally got red lines but they are totally fine and all other HDV clips - except for this one tape I captured.
I think the Adobe KB article, thanks for that, is no use for me, because I had C++ Runtime Errors during capturing. I had no problems installing PrEl like this article describes. Or should I reinstall?
I used MediaInfo to look into the specs of the file: "MPEG Audio 384 Kbps 2 channels, 48.0 KHz". G-SPOT unfortunately does not show up with any video or audio info except for: "File Type: MPEG-2 Transport Stream, Mime Type: video/mp2t". Sure it is compressed, isn't it? That's what Premiere is recording.
I tried to open the audio of my MPEG in Audacity. But Audacity says it will last 1193046:21:06 hours. Too long for me. My file is about more than 11 GB. I guess Audacity will abort with a memory error as memory is increasing usage on and on. I had this problem before. But perhaps not ... I will test it.
Can I demux my MPEG and mux it again with uncompressed audio? (I don't think so.) I need the whole file in one because I already cut many clips out of the whole file and cannot sync every little clip with a part of a wav-file again.
Why is it that only one of five files got this problems? The others got the same audio type as MediaInfo says.
For anyone who wonders: OOS is "out of sync".

  • Premiere Elements 7: Transitions: audio cut off brutally

    Hello,
I got me this Elements 7 package since yesterday and I am impressed so far, but there is one thing that does not make it 100% perfect for me yet.
-> In scene line I put 2 clips next to each other, I add a transition between them. (cross dissolve)
-> Premiere will do the transition BUT
    1. during the transition-effect the second clip is not playing, only showing the first frame until the transition-effect is over, giving this stop & go' effect, where it should run smooth into the other clip.
    2. There is no transition in the sound (the audio of the first clip should run smoothly to silent and vice versa for the second clip)
This makes the sound cut off very brutally during a transition.
Am i doing something horribly wrong here? Is there someway to 'automate' the thing I want, because I use this mostly between much videos.
    I thank you very much!

You need to trim some frames (half the transition duration) off each end of the two clips where the transistion is applied. It is really much better to work in Timeline view it makes things much clearer.
Or if you do not want to trim the clips, you can open up the transition "properties" window and drag the ends of the clips so they overlap. You do not then get repeated frames and so no need to trim the clips.
But first try clicking on the transition and in the "properties" window for the transition click on "Center at cut"

  • Gaps in audio playback

Forgive me if this has been covered previously.  I'm new to the forum and had no success in searching for an answer.  I use my WD TV primarily as a music player and have a problem when playing any file that should flow seamlessly from one file to the next such as live recordings.  There's a gap of about 3 seconds during playback.  Does anyone know of a fix for this?  I'm using firmware version 1.03.01. Thanks for your help. Barry

It is a pain. I use CDex to rip my CDs to my WD My Cloud. Where gapless playback is needed I rip a gapless version, as well as a normal rip. I then label them as gapless in my library. Yes, you have to rip some CDs twice but for me it's no longer an issue.

  • Issue with live playback while editing - Premiere Elements 10

Hi there, It's been a while since I used Premiere, and decided that I would make a video. I've copied all of the media across and started editing the clip. I dragged the first clip onto the timeline and clicked the play button so I could find where I wanted to make the first cut. And there was no video, just a still frame from where the marker was. If I click the live playback area, it pauses the video and updates the still. I have tried updating the software to see if it was a bug that had been patched, but it's still there. I've never had this issue before, and would appreciate any help you guys could lend.
    Thanks in advance,

I've been reading this with interest because I'm having the same issue since updating the nVidia drivers at the end of November.  There is a conflict that is NOT resolved by completely uninstalling and rolling the drivers back.
Previews just will not display in the monitor in Adobe Premiere Elements 11. Audio is fine.
Clicking on the monitor window allows me to view the frame, and I can advance the frames one at a time and view them, but when I select 'Play' I just get a blank screen.

  • No audio on Timeline Premiere Elements 13 and no longer on 12 after upgrading to 13.

On my Mac with OS X Yosemite I've worked with Premiere Elements 12 for a while and it just worked fine. Now I;ve upgraded to Elements 13 and the clips that were fine the other day have now lost there audio when I put them on the Timeline. However if I double click the clip in project assets and play it on the clip monitor everything is fine, but as soon as I send it to the timeline or storyboard the audio disappears. I'm in a spot now as I can't use 13 and neither return to Elements 12. Any ideas will be very much apprexiated.

    Ted
    Momentary detour.....
Could we go over the path
Just a week ago I created a movie with Elements 12 on this same Mac with OS X Yosemite and ij
just worked fine. On second thoughts the movie was a bit too long, so I
imported the saved project to re-edit it, only to find out that the audio
had gone for the greater part of the clips on the timeline. I closed
elements 13 and reopened 12 and the saved project with the same result.
When you got to second thoughts, what did you do....
    a. rebuild the project anew in Premiere Elements 13?
    b. import the Premiere Elements 12 export in Premiere Elements 13?
    c. open the Premiere Elements 12 project in Premiere Elements 13?
I ask since you cannot import one project file into another and you wrote "imported the saved project".
You wrote after the file was drag from Premiere Elements 13 Project Assets to Timeline
only to find out that the audio had gone for the greater part of the clips on the timeline.
What was gone - the representation of the whole audio clip on the audio track or just the sound
for the whole? Was the duration of the clip listed in Project Assets, the same as observed at
    its Timeline level?
If you took this Premiere Elements 13 Timeline (problem audio there) to export, was there sound in the export?
If you create a project in an earlier version, it is often possible to open it in a later version to work with the project in the later version.
But, you cannot open the later version edited project in the earlier project again. So, I was not sure what you were describing when
    you wrote
I closed elements 13 and reopened 12 and the saved project with the same result.
    What saved project?
    Premiere Elements 13 Audio
Please consider deleting the Media Cache Files Folder where the program saves the automatically generated conformed audio.
To locate that Folder, on Windows I could go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks/Media Cache to find location for the Media Cache Files Folder. Is that the
    same for Mac?
Also, please let us know if the flawed Premiere Elements 13 Timeline audio content exports OK or contains the flaws encountered before export.
Again, please excuse if I have included things that you were already aware of. Because of the nature of your issue, I did not want to take anything for grant.
