Premiere Elements 4.0 shuts down 15 minutes into my photo slideshow

I have created a photo slideshow in Premiere Elements 4.0. I'm using a Gateway Laptop - 2.00 GB, 32-Bit operating system. I checked available space on my C-hard drive and it shows: 43.6 GB of available space.
At approximately 15 minutes and 44 seconds, the end of one of my songs starts to skip, and an error message pops up that says: Microsoft Windows: Adobe Premiere Elements has stopped working - a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I checked the song where the issue occured. It plays fine in other applications. I checked the format of the photos - all are Jpeg. I even deleted all files from that 15 min 44 sec point in my project and it still hits something it doesn't like and shuts down with the error message. I defragged and performed a disc cleanup. I re-started the computer and tried it again - same issue.
So I started over. I checked it every time I added something new. Photos worked; transitions worked, the theme worked..... and then I got to music. I added 3 tracks and at 15 min 44 sec, my issue started again. I thought that maybe I had run out of hard drive space (I've read several threads on here that suggest a laptop is not ideal for PE 4 - a CPU works best). But if that were true, shouldn't my project have worked when I deleted the songs from the project? I've tried everything and am a loss. I've contacted Tech Support and am still waiting for an answer. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

When I have program closed due to DEP I have always had a warning message saying that DEP is closing the program... and then given the option to disable it for the program.
What format is your audio by the way... MP3 can sometimes make PE7 do funny things... best to convert to WAV. You could also try the Render and replace for your timeline (under Audio) this will do what it says, render your timeline and replace it with a WAV file.

I have been getting this message just a few nights ago after working on a project. Premiere was working at first for a few days but then this happened. Now everytime I try to activate the program it displays "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Premiere Elements to be shut down. We will attempt to save your current project".
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling premiere 3.0 but that didn't help. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My computer is a Dell Dimension Desktop running on Windows XP with 256 MB of RAM

There are a couple of similar threads, so I will post my solution to you also. This worked when I had the same problem.
I have found a couple of steps for a solutions that worked for the "encountered serious error" message when attempting to share the project to disk or computer file. Here was my solution that worked.
    1. I already compiled a project that took me 2 months and used video, photo, music. I added a new video track 'before' the other tracks and inserted a black jpg image, stretch it the entire timeline and make the opacity 0%. This covers any unseen 'gaps' in the project and won't interfere or cover anything else in the project.
    2. Go to file - project archiver - copy project to a new folder away from the current folder (this will include a copy of all media used in the timeline of the project - trust me it's worth the duplication!).
    3. Go to preferences - clear your media cache. Close the program.
    4. Hold down the left ctrl + shift and then click on the Premiere program icon. Keep holding the ctrl + shift until the welcome screen for Premiere appears.
    5. Open the new *.prel project you had saved in the new folder in step 2.
    6. Go to share and make your disk or computer file.
After trying all the recommendations of the various posts, this is what I found that worked (I didn't find step 2 in a post but was just trying to back up the work I did and found that it created a new *.prel file!). For some reason, when previously trying to share the project with the original *.Prel file, it didn't like having all the media in different folders from the project, even if they were a in a sub-folder within the project folder. It wanted all the media in the SAME FOLDER as the project.
I just now have a new error that I can't find the solution for in support or the forum yet. But that's another post.
I hope this helps someone else!

  • PE 3 Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Premiere Elements to be shut down. We will at

I'm a newby to the Forum
This issue has obviously surfaced before but I cant see a real solution in all Ive read.
Ive been editing and producing home movies with pe3 happily for 3 years no problem
Dual core processor 3 gig ddr ram windows XP SP3 fully updated
Used MSconfig to shut all unnecessary services, 100Gig space on HDD recently defragged
Cant open new or old projects , PE3 goes in a cycle of 3 error messages
    1. Sorry a serious error etc...........
2 It appears Adobe Prem  El closed unexpectedly. Do you want to open...........etc
    3. The projected file that is being opened is a recovery.  We will try ........etc.
PE 3 has been re-installed multiple times, Registry cleaner has been run.  The new update was also installed.
It still keeps happening even thought it worked perfectly for 3 years before.
I'm open to all suggestions, thank you.

You seem like you're pretty meticulous about keeping your system up to date, clean and defragged, which is always my first recommendation when someone says the program used to work but suddenly stopped.
I don't know which programs you're using to maintain your program, but here's what I recommend in my books.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/390602?tstart=30
Also go to Premiere Elements Edit/Preferences/Media Cache and clear the Media Cache.
You don't say if you're also keeping Quicktime up to date, but that too is important.
Strangely, there seem to be a lot of posts recently from people complaining about error messages, so it could be a faulty Windows update.
Meantime, try launching the program while holding down the left side Ctrl, Alt and Shift keys to clear any corrupt preferences. You can also go to C\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\OWNER\APPLICATION DATA\ADOBE and rename the Premiere Elements folder, which will force Premiere Elements to recreate it next time you start the launch the program.
If that doesn't work, you might want to try uninstalling the program and then deleting the C\PROGRAM FILES\ADOBE\PREMIERE ELEMENTS 3.0 folder completely before you reinstall. (And, of course, also install Adobe's 3.02 patch.)
Beyond that, I'm not sure. But, once you're done with all of this, who knows. Microsoft might issue the patch that fixes whatever they did wrong!

  • Premiere Elements 9 keeps shutting down on me

I'm working on a project on Premiere Elements 9. I start to edit my timeline and a message appears that says "Adobe Premiere Elements is running very low on system memory. Please save your project and proceed with caution." It then almost immediately comes up (and sometimes this message appears first) and says "A serious error has occured and Adobe Premiere Elements must shut down. We will try to save your project." The project does not get saved and the system shuts down on me. Why does this keep happening and how do I resolve?

What is your operating system? How fast is your processor and how much RAM do you have? How much free, clean, defragmented space is on your C drive?
What type of camcorder is your source footage coming from? When you started your Premiere Elements project, which settings did you select?
If you are using photos, have you ensured that they are no larger than 1000x750 pixels, per my books and the FAQs to the right of this forum?
When you see red lines above the clips on your timeline, have you pressed Enter to render your timeline? When your timeline is rendered, the red lines will turn green, the program's performance will improve and you should not get out of memory errors.

This happens only in Premiere and it is totally random. It happens on 10 machines and have reimaged and reinstalled the software.

Are these ten machines on a network? If so, you'll need to contact Adobe Tech Support. There are some special considerations for networked computers.
Also, have you manually gone to Windows Update and ensured each computer has all of the "hidden" updates that do not install automatically as well as the latest version of Quicktime?
Are these computers using the 32-bitor 64-bit versions of Windows 7? How fast is the processor and how much RAM does each have?

  • Premiere Elements 12 Automatically Separates My Video Into Clips

Everytime I add media to Premiere Elements 12, it automatically gets separated into clips. I am working with video of people singing and these "automatic clips" cause a HUGE problem. They will be in the middle of a song and a word or two will get cut out. As you can imagine, this is extremely frustrating!
I've gone ahead and started editing the video anyway. However, when I save the project and reopen it later, there are even more "automatic clips". I have spent hours working on this video, and now it is nearly unusable because almost every song has a few words missing. How can I remove these unwanted gaps and make my video one long, fluid, and uninterrupted clip?
    I would appreciate help.
    Thank you!

    AngHoot
What computer operating system are you running Premiere Elements 12 on? Assuming Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit for now....
In the Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, click on the Organizer Tab at the bottom to open the Elements Organizer 12.
When in the Elements Organizer 12, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Media Analysis and turn off all the options you see under that category, especially AutoAnalyzer options.
When AutoAnalyzer options are left on, the feature will split your video clips and "stack them". When and if you want to use the AutoAnalzyer feature, use it on an on demand basis only. Right click the media in Project Assets and select Run AutoAnalzyer.
The originals on the computer hard drive are unaffected by this unwanted happening. But, you cannot reverse what the AutoAnalzyer has done in the project and Elements Organizer. Instances of these "split stacked" media will need to be deleted and re-imported in Project Assets and Elements Organizer or just left as it.
This can happen in Premiere Elements (any version).
Please let us know if you are OK with the above and if it worked for you.
    Thank you.

  • Elements 10 organiser shutting down

Have elements 10 photoshop and premiere, bought april 2012. When i open the organiser part of photoshop I get an error message and the programme shuts down. The editor continues to work OK.
Any suggestions on how to sort this out? Thanks

The problem is that you have a corrupted catalog. The reason that you can open them in Editor is because the photos you are trying to open are fine. The problem is only with the catalog. When Organiser opens, it looks for the current catalog. Before you can do anything, you must interrupt the process. As soon as you open Organiser, hit ctrl+shft+c this will get you into the catalog selection. The catalog with the word 'current' next to it is the corrupt file. If you have a back-up catlog, try selecting it. If organiser will open ANY other catalogue, you can be sure that the issue is not PSE.
You can try repairing the current catalog and then optimising it. Sometimes this works but generally if it's crashing every time, the problem is much deeper. However, give 'repair' a try. It will tell you that there is nothing to repair (that's got to be the world's most stupid message). Ignore this and press 'repair anyway'. If it still crashes, there is nothing that you can do other than to build a new catalog. (The advice of deleting the psa.prf file will do the same thing in opeing up the catalog box. This method is more straight-forward but if this doesn't work you can go to c:\users\{insert name}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Elements Organiser\{insert the PSE version number e.g. 11}\Organiser\ Locate the psa.prf and delete it. When Organiser opens, it uses this file to locate the current catalog. If that's missing, it will ask you to select which catalog in the catalog selection box. That's a fairly cluncky way of doing it I think.
Before you create a new catalog, it's probably worth doing a bit of a Spring clean of that photo/pictures file. If you're like most people, it's probably loaded with unsorted photos, duplicates and folder structures that look like they were assembled by a madman (at least that's what mine looked like). The need to build a new catalog should prompt a tidy up. You don't want to be pushing a whole lot of useless files into the shiny new catalog you are going to build. I found all sorts of files that weren't photos or were in formats that haven't existed for 15 years, There were a couple of mpeg4 files and others whose extension made no sense at all and I can only assume that were created as some sort of temp or catalog files by other programs. Get rid of all of them from this folder. Fixing this up will save you tons of time later and will mean that everything is guaranteed to work. I also suspect this was at least partly the cause of the issues.
Next, make sure that your old tags are written into the metadata of the photos. You want to avoid having to tag everything again. Go back in to Organiser, press ctrl+shft+c and get into the catalog selector. Try opening either the corrupt catalog or a back up. Often even a corrupt catalog can be opened from this box. If it doesn't work the first time, try several times and try other files. It seems strange but sometimes, particularly after doing a repair, it will let you in once. Under File select 'Write keyword tag and properties info to photos'. If you liked the way in which your tag trees were set up, it might be worth copying them down. You are going to have to rebuild the basic structure. It doesn't take as long as it sounds. Knowing what it looked like before helps speed things up a bit.
Go back to the catalog box ctrl+shft+c and select New. Name the new catalogue. Press ctrl+shft+g and navigate to where your photos are. If you have embedded the tags into the metadata, it will ask you whether you want to bring that across with the photos. Select all of the tags and let it do its magic.
All of the tags will be stored under the Keyword 'Imported keyword tags' It's usually the last option on the Organise tab/ Keyword Tags. Now, having them there is pretty inconvenient. But if you can set up the basis structure of your tags, you can drag and drop the tags from 'Imported Keyword tags' into the various people/places/events headings that you want. If you've got hundreds of tags, this might take an hour or so, but its the longest part of the process. Everything else is really quick. I rebuilt a catalog of 20 000 photos and about 70 tags in an hour . . . after spending days trying to repair a corrupted catalog. My advice is that if it can't be easily repaired, it can't be repaired. Cut your losses and create a new catalog.
I then did a find for untagged files. There was mostly junk that I missed in my clean-out. I largely deleted this and also removed it from the hard drive. It should now be perfect.
I've tried the same procedure on PSE 7, 9 & 12 and it's basically the same for each. And a final piece of advice is ALWAYS embed your tags onto the photo metadata. If you ever have a disaster, it's so much easier to fix.
Hope this helps. Remember, it's not as hard or as confusing as it sounds. Don't let that constant Organiser crash frustrate you any longer.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 & CC Shutting down iMac when exporting.

    Hi!
I have had my iMac for around a year: Mid 2011 iMac 21", 12GB RAM. I switched from FCPX because Adobe just had more for me. FCPX exported fast and fine. But when I move to Adobe suddenly exporting becomes an issue. I have tried both CS6 and CC both do the same thing.
I will be exporting something normaly full 1080p DSLR footage and it will get half way into the export and shut down the mac. The mac will just restart. It does it every single time. The issue has now also started when just trying to render a prodject not even export. I want to use Adobe but I just can't. It does the same exporting from Premiere and AME. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP.
I have taken my iMac into Apple and they have run stress tests for 24 hours and it was fine... Please help!

Are youusing FilmConvert by chance? I was seeing the same issue; when I finally tested the same project by duping the sequence and removing only the filmconvert filter - all was well. FilmConvert is causing runaway RAM usage which eventually made the Swap file so big the computer rebooted after a Kernel Panic.

  • Why is Premiere elements 9 turning my imported video into clips?

    I'm merging two videos.
One person recorded the entire event from far away.  That is my video 1.  It is one single unbroken video.  The camera was NOT paused during recording.
Another person recorded parts from much closer.  This is video two.  These are closeups that I inserting over video 1.
I'm putting a clip in video two timeline, watching both side by side to make sure the audio and movements match, trimming each clip at same beginning and end points - and putting the video two clip into the video 1 timeline.
This was easy for the first 10 insertions as but suddenly Elements wants to break to the video 2 sections into several clips.  They're not.
Why was I able to move the first 10 video 2 clips from the organizer to the timeline just fine - each was entered as one continuous clip.   Now the clips are broken down further into sub-clips.  I'm NOT importing different clips and putting them together in timeline 2.  Each is one is a separate video.  Why is Adobe breaking them down further?

Okay, after numerous random program crashes the above problem went away and did not come back with subsequent crashes.
    Problem solved.
    Why use Moviemaker?
    - It is much simpler to use.
    - It does not crash frequently.
    - It creates simple videos just as well as elements.
Summary: Moviemaker is easier to use, more stable, but less functional (fewer bells and whistles).
Moviemaker can NOT be used with multiple video tracks.  If it had that capability I'd probably still be using it.
So now I have Premiere Elements 9.
    Next problem.
So I've spliced together my two videos into one.
To do this I had to reduce the display size of each video in the viewer to 1/2 size so I could watch each simultaneously to sync them and to determine which video was better to use. I'd watch one version in the upper left had corner and the other in the lower right.
By the way, it doesn't seem intelligent to have the multiple video tracks but make it so hard to display them side by side.
Now I'm on to creating the DVD menus.  The videos are still showing up at 1/2 size.
Will they show up that way on the DVD?  Do I need to go back and manually enlarge the hundreds of spliced clips to full size?  This would be difficult and time consuming. The fact that the videos enlarge from all sides makes it that much more difficult.  It would be nice if you could just shove it into one corner and pull it the the other corner.  Because it enlarges on all sides you have to center it tand then fiddle with it quite a bit to get it properly aligned on all four sides.
