Premiere Elements 9 Tryout Serious Display Problem

I will confine my editorializing to "Deja vu, all over again" and describe the Premiere Elements 9 problem that sounds like I was reliving the release of Premiere Elements 8.
I downloaded and installed Premiere Elements 9 tryout, and it worked great for about 7 days. With no changes in the computer environment, suddenly when Premiere Elements 9 was loading a new project, it would stop at PlayerMediaCore.prm and pop up a message:
"We have detected an incompatible driver. To get a better and faster playback performance, please update your display driver. Display driver details: NVIDIA Corporation GeForce....." and it went on to fully name my video card driver. When I clicked on OK, the program continued to load completely and opened to the workspace where the Edit Mode Monitor performance was, best described as, wacky....Timeline content that would not present in the Edit Mode Monitor, Preview Windows that froze in the Edit Mode Monitor, etc. And, Edit Mode Full Screen Previews did not work at all. The technical irony in all this was that I have Premiere Elements 6, 7, and 8/8.0.1 all installed on the same computer, and all were still performing great when I was using them one at a time as a control.
When I went to Hardware/Device Manager and attempted to "update" my NVIDIA card driver, the "update" that installed automatically was older than what is was replacing. BUT, now Premiere Elements 9 did work as expected. HOWEVER, now my Premiere Elements 6, 7, and 8/8.0.1 were crashing at various times from loading to opening of the workspace. I am still hunting for a replacement NVIDIA driver that will fix the Premiere Elements 9 display issue and not kill my Premiere Elements 6, 7, and 8/8.0.1.
In investigating this matter, I noticed that the Premiere Elements 8/8.0.1 "Enable GPU Playback" is gone in version 9. And, now, if you right click the Premiere Elements 9 Edit Mode Monitor, you have a Playback Quality option of Automatic or Highest. That tells me that Adobe was at work making changes in the name of better. And, I am wondering if what I am encountering is related to Adobe's attempted improvements in display which was one of the issues in Premiere Elements 8.0 when it was released. Or, could this be related to making AVCHD a native format? Lots of possibilities.
The above is my long way of saying "Has anyone run into this type of situation with Premiere Elements 9, any workarounds found (other than buying a new video card just for Premiere Elements 9, ???"
At this point, I know of one other person who got a similar message from Premiere Elements 9 and resolved the problem by updating the NVIDIA card driver. But that still raises the question "Do we need a special video card driver just for Premiere Elements 9?" and "Why?"

To Vijay and A.T. Romano:
I am happy to help out any way I can. First, I do plan on installing PE9.0 on 2 other computers, both running Windows XP. Currently, both of these computers (Dell desktop and laptop) have PE2.0 running, with no problems. I will try to do these installations later on today.
The 2 new computers have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. While I have installed PE2.0 on these computers, the program runs slowly. I assume PE2.0 and Windows 7 are not compatible. As I mentioned before, PE 9.0 runs fine on the Dell desktop. It does not play videos on the Sony laptop.
The contents of the text file are..
##FALSE#0#0#0
The error message when the program is launched is..
Display driver details :NVIDIA Corporation – GeForce GT 330M/PCI/SSE2 3.0 NVIDIA 188.67
I do hope this help. I can only guess that the problem is wide spread.
Thank you again.

  • Premiere Elements 12 Incompatible Display Driver problem

I recently bought Adobe Premiere Elements 12 and installed it with no problem. I tried to run it but it keeps saying that my display drivers are incompatible. My AMD Radeon 6950 has up to date drivers and I even tried deleting the BadDriver.txt, but it keeps appearing when I try to open the program. I would appreciate any help. I have tried almost everything.

Great job in solving your own issue.
Just a note, when you delete the BadDrivers.txt file, it is normal for the program to generate a new one when the program is opened again. And hopefully the program now works without display error messages.
That BadDrivers.txt file deletion has its origin in the days of Premiere Elements 9 and has continued to help others with later versions as well...after updating video card/graphics card driver is not the answer. The rationale behind BadDriver.txt file deletion can be found in post 10 of the following older thread

Did you go through the drill
    a. video card driver version up to date according to the manufacturer of the video card
    b. if so, deletion of the BadDrivers.txt file....for Premiere Elements 12 in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, the path is:
    Local Disk C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
and in the Premiere Elements Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file for version 12. The BadDrivers.txt file is a file in this Premiere Elements Folder which also contains folders. You do not want anything in those folders. All you want is the BadDrivers.txt file in the Premiere Elements Folder.
Make sure that you have Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so you can see that complete path.
The rationale for the being of the BadDrivers.txt file has its origins in post 10 of the following older thread

When you get the display card error message, is it before you import media into the project? And, when you get the message, does the program allow you to continue by pressing a Continue Button or are you stopped from going further?

  • Serious display problem. Please help!

I'm having a serious display problem all of a sudden. It is not application specific. Various different applications are pixelating, especially wherever I move my cursor and click the mouse. When I grab the entire application with the cursor and move it, the image duplicates into hundreds of images all over my screen. If I shake it around awhile, eventually it goes back to normal. What is going on??!!
Here's some background info: I'm on a 2009 Mac Pro. I still use the old fashioned tube monitors with mini display port to VGA converters, but I've never had a problem up until now. Just before the problem started happening, I tried to open up some .jpg files in Quicktime Pro 7.
I would greatly appreciate any ideas of what the problem could be and how to fix it.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Might you have moved the Home folder or its contents, or renamed it? If you think that's what happened, this article may help:

I have never heard of renaming the hosts file in a situation related to Premiere Elements 12 sign in problems.
Rather what is done is "resetting the host file" which is not the same as renaming it. In fact, you delete certain entries in it if they have been added to the default hosts file.
Please refer to the following Adobe document.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html
Although the document does not mention Premiere Elements, it is often referred to by Adobe for Premiere Elements as well as other Adobe products in matters such as this..
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? I will assume Window 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit for now.
The default host file looks like
Do you see anything listed under the last line #  ::1   localhost in the default host file in the screenshot?
You get to the host file via
    Local Disk C
    Windows
    System32
    Drivers
    etc
and in the etc Folder is the hosts file that you right click, select Open, select Notepad to bring up the hosts file Notepad document.
If you need to edit that hosts file, make a backup of it first.
Also, depending on how things go, you might want to check out my Premiere Elements sign in problem that I reported in my blog post

  • Premiere Elemente 12 - incompatible Display Driver on Win 8.1

    Hi Everybody!
I am running Windows 8.1 on an HP Ultrabook equipped with 23" external Display via USB 3.0 Port Replicator. Primary Display is off, as Notebook is closed.
I have installed PE12 before updating to W8.1.
Starting PE 12 results in an alert message: "incompatible display driver detected, please update..."
Updating Chipset Drivers resulted in "most recent driver installed".
How can I get that software running???
    Thank you in advance

Have stopped the firewall and allowed all traffic -
From what I have read, many of this type of situation has been resolved by disabling the firewall with the rationale that file like dynamiclinkmanager is being blocked from getting to important files because of firewall protection. If this turns out to be the case, then we would need to look into writing exceptions in the firewall.
Removed the newest version and installaed 7.6.6. -
Another strategy that worked for one with this type of problem was to go from the latest version of Quicktime to an earlier version. In the case that I read, the version went to was 7.6.6. Older versions of QuickTime can be found at the following link.
Download Old Versions of QuickTime for Windows - OldVersion.com
same result again - pe12 not starting.

  • Premiere Elements 9 Not Displaying Project

Whenever I try to open my version of Premiere Elements 9, there is nothing to view. The same happens for any new projects that I would like to create. See the picture below for an example. Can someone please advise me on the problem and how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    alexsanc
What computer operating system are you running Premiere Elements 9 and are you running the 9.0.1 Update version of the program?
When did this problem start? Is this "it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before"?
Have you double checked to determine if the problem exists with and without the antivirus program disabled?
How are you getting to the view that you display in the screenshot?
    a. Have you set the project preset in the new project dialog, clicked OK, wait for the workspace to open, and get only what is shown in
    that screenshot?
    or
    b. Other
    The usual drill questions:
    a. Latest version of QuickTime installed on computer with Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1?
    b. Working from User Account with Administrative Privileges and Run As Administrator application applied?
    c. Video card/graphics card driver up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card or the manufacturer of the computer?
We can talk about deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 9.0 Folder in which it exists. But, for now, let us
gather the information requested above. I will post the How To for this approach next. This may come to uninstall/ccleaner run through/reinstall.
We will be watching for your reply.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere Elements 8 & MP4 video problem

    A.T. Romano
Attached is my MP4 video from my Sanyo Xacti. When I perform a "Get Media" in Premiere Elements 8 I only see red cells in the timeline, task panel and playback monitor were red. No video images would display, only sound. Any Ideas?
    Thanks APK

    APK
    SANY0002.MP4
    According the gspot utility
    Video Codec = MPEG-4 Video
    Frame Size: 1280 x 720
Frame Rate: 29.97 frames per second
    Sar = .1778 (16:9)
    Par = 1:1
    Dar = 1.778 (16:9)
Audio Codec = MPEG-4 AAC LC
    48000 Hz 128 kb/s tot, stereo (2/0)
    Premiere Elements 8 Import/Playback
SANY002.MP4 original. Video and Audio imported, but video presented as a bright red matte, but audio was fine.
SANY002.MP4 with file extension changed to .AVI. Video and Audio imported, but video presented as black video, but audio was fine.
    Conversion Workaround Solution
Convert file to DV AVI widescreen (720 x 480 with 16:9 flag)
MPEG Streamclip (free MPEG Streamclip + QuickTime Alternative 1.81 (with free MPEG2 Playback Component) and uninstall regular QuickTime OR free MPEG Streamclip, leave your regular QuickTime installed, and buy the required Apple MPEG2 Playback Component)
    http://www.squared5.com/
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    MPEG Streamclip suggested settings:
File Menu/Open, to bring in your video
    File Menu/Export to AVI
    Then in AVI/DivX Explorer dialog:
    Compressor: Apple DV/DVCPRO-NTSC
    Sound: Uncompressed
Put a dot next to 720 x 480 (DV NTSC)
    Field Dominance: Lower Field First
Up at top right, click on Options, set there for Aspect Ratio = 16:9.
Only if necessary, put a check mark next to Deinterlace Video.
Anything that I did not mention, leave as is.
Finally, click on Make AVI and the job is done quickly and effectively.
This gave great results with your video, and this DV AVI version worked well video and audio wise in Premiere Elements 8.
Your could use the free Prism Video Converter, but the free version is limited to 4:3, and some export types are only available in the purchased version.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
    Prism suggested settings:
    Output format = .avi
Encoder Options = DV Encoder NTSC (Direct Show)
Edit Option = check mark next to Resize Video; uncheck Constrain Proportions; set for 720 x 480.
You could also get a .wmv version from this software. Look into that if you decide to use this converter instead of MPEG Streamclip which is my favorite.
There are lots to explore with your original HD MPEG-4 and its problems with Premiere Elements 8. At one point I had this video on a jump drive. When I went to import the video into Premiere Elements 8 from this jump drive, the Media Downloader was triggered. In the intermediate part of this process, a thumbnail of the video being exported is shown in the Media Downloader Advanced dialog. Interestingly, the thumbnail in the Media Downloader showed the video clearly, but once it got into the Premiere Elements 8 media area—bright red matte looking image in Organizer thumbnail and in the Edit Mode Monitor once the video was dragged to the Timeline.

  • Premiere Elements 11 says display drivers are incompatible

When I start Premiere Elements 11 there is an error message saying:
"We have detected an incompatible display driver. To get a better and faster playback performance, please update your display driver.  Display driver details: NVIDIA Corporation - GeForce GTX 550 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 4.4.0"
And when I click Ok the program continues to load but then the computer freeze and a hard reboot must be done.
I have the latest display drivers and had not updated anyting between the last time Premiere worked and the first time it did this.
I found some solution saying to delete a file called "Baddriver.txt" but the file is no where to be found.
I have uninstalled the display drivers and installed the latest one again, I have also uninstalled and installed Premiere again. I cant update Premiere since it freezes the computer and I can do anything in it.

Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 64 bit....
    Thanks for the follow up.
For the video card...Start button, and, in the Search field above the Start button, type in Device Manager. Look to the top of that left column and click on Device Manager to open it. In the Device Manager go to Display Adapters and see what is listed under that...one or two entries and what name(s) do you see listed for video card?
For Folder Option...Start button, and, in the Search field above the Start button, type in Folder Options.
Look to the top of the left column and click on Folder Options to open the Folder Options dialog. In the Folder Options dialog, click on the View Tab. Next scroll down until you find "Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives" and make sure the is a dot next to it to select it.
Before all this, always good to assure that you have the last video card driver version according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card.
Please let us know if you need any further information or need clarification on anything written.

I do not know about the SD recording format with that camcorder. I am sorry. But, if your Premiere Elements project is set up for AVCHD, you should be able to edit AVCHD with that computer.
I do recommend optimizing Vista, however, so that you will get the best performance. Here's how to do it:

Also, make sure your Vista is updated to Service Pack 1.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 12 start up problem.

I just purchased and installed Adobe Premiere Elements 12.  I have a new pc with windows 8.1. Premiere required that I run the program as an administrator (???).  So I ran it as administrator and it starts up, but then immediately closes itself.

Thanks for the update on the issue details.
Bottom line: I am suspecting an Open With directive problem.
    Details.....
Please excuse the questions, but I do not want to take anything for granted
Checking the Creation of a New Project
    a. If you double click the desktop icon of Premiere Elements 12.1, does the program open to the Welcome Screen?
In the Welcome Screen can you then select Video Editor followed by New Project to open a new project?
    b. Can you open the program and a new project by double clicking on the Adobe Premiere Elements 12.exe or Adobe Premiere Elements.exe found
    Local Disk C
    Program Files
    Adobe
    12
and in the 12 Folder are these two files. The Adobe Premiere Elements 12.exe should open to the Welcome Screen and the Adobe Premiere Elements.exe opens bypassing the Welcome Screen.
Checking the Opening of a Saved/Closed Project
Now for your workaround...You right click a video file on the hard drive and select Open With and have the opportunity to select specifically Premiere Elements 12. It works. You have a new project, edited, and you save/close it. But, it is the re-opening of that saved/closed project.prel file that I suspect as being at the core of the problem.
so I double clicked the project file I had been working on and it said 'The project is not compatible with current version of Premiere Elements' (even though I had only just saved it from that version).
Where is this project.prel file that you are double clicking to re-open your saved/closed project? And, how do you get to it? What is its hard drive save location - Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0? If so, what happens if you right click the project prel there and select Open With, followed by Premiere Elements 12?
    Please review and consider.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere elements 10 timeline dragging problem

Hi .. I have installed Premiere Elements 10.0 Trial version and am seeing a problem with the user interface when I drag a clip within the timeline.
The screen-image from the top part of the user-interface  becomes the background of the timeline section when a clip is dragged within the timeline - see attached images (before dragging, and during dragging).
I saw there was a Java runtime issue for Lion, so I have now installed this - didn't fix the issue (unless I have to reinstall PRE after I've installed the runtime).
I am running the following system:
    MacBook Pro 13-inch, Early 2011
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)
    Any thoughts welcomed, thanks,
    Adam
[UPDATE] I see this is a known issue.
    Message was edited by: phibot

Thanks for the feedback Steve ..
In the screen-grabs above, the video clip was from an old VHS imported to iMovie (using a canopus ADVC-55).  I'm sure you are right - the settings wouldn't have been matching .. although I didn't keep the project so I can't check (it was a jpeg still on video 1).
Ihave now tried again - with project settings matching the video clip file (DV PAL 25 fps 720 x 576), no jpegs, and the red lines are gone .. but the problem is still there when I drag a clip within the timeline (even if there's just one clip in the project).  As mentioned in my edit, I see there is a known issue with Mac OS X Lion and PRE in the Timeline .. link here, although that says there are colour artifacts in the Timeline where I'm seeing the screen-image from above duplicated as the background, but I'm sure it's the same bug.
    .. thanks again - helpful stuff I didn't know.

  • Premiere Elements 8 - Video Playback Problem...

    Hi,
I recently purchased Premiere Elements 8 and I have come across a problem which is really frustrating.
Everything I drag one of my imported video files into the timeline and try to play it, the playback comes out all strange and distorted.
I have included a picture what what the playback looks like below.
Any help will be greatly appreciated Thanks

    Let us not give up.
First, check out what looks like all you would ever want and not want to know about DivX.
    http://www.divxmovies.com/faq/#4.6
Next, let us attack this video clip with which you are dealing. We need to get a better handle on it, other than DivX Decoder Filter.
First look to see what DivX and any other codecs that you have installed on your computer. If you have Windows XP, follow the path:
Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Sound, video, and game controllers/video codecs and see if you have any DivX codecs there and do they need to be updated.
Download the free utility gspot and see what it tells you about the properties of your video, especially the video and audio codecs.
    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/quick_start.html
This way, hopefully we will know what we are dealing with.
Also, what operating system do you have? If Windows Vista, does it have a Windows DVD Maker?
Did you ever say how you intended to export the Timeline and how you want to view the export?
I will be watching for your progress.

I have had Adobe Premiere Elements 9 for almost a year now, and I had just made a movie with my friends.  When I go to launch Premiere Elements it says "Incompatible display driver, please update your display driver.  I am on a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop. (I know, it is not a great computer for video editing, but it is what I am stuck with.) I have tried to delete the BadDrivers.txt file and it is still no use.  I have also reinstalled my drivers (there were no updates after 2008) I have been able to use Premiere Elements perfectly until today.  I don't know what is going on, so somebody please help me.
    Thanks,
    Eric

That machine is pretty underpowered for PRE, as you acknowledged, so it could just be that your current project is too large or more complex than your previous successful projects. The maximum memory is only 2GB and that is barely enough to start PRE on top of Windows itself.
But, encouraged by the fact you have had successful projects, I'd first look at how much defragmented disk space you have. Really you should be looking for at least 40GB free and defragged. That your machine supports only a maximum 100GB drive strongly suggests to me that you just don't have enough available.
For general disk space cleaning take a look here: Re: Clean, Lean & Mean Editing Machine - One Workflow. Check out the rest of that discussion - lots of good advice on optimizing a PC.
For PRE specific cleaning I suggest you remove all cache files through Edit> Preferences> Media> Clean.
Also look to your past complete projects. Consider using the Project Archiver to archive off completed projects to an external hard drive, and then delete the Adobe working folders for those projects (much easier if you have managed each project through a project specific folder). You  can also manually check for the working file folders by looking for their folder names:

  • Adobe premiere elements and roaming profiles problem

We bought Adobe premiere elements 12 for use in our school lab environment and after lots of struggle I now see that it doesn't support roaming profiles. Is there a fix for this or have we wasted lots of money.
Is there a way to change the default save location during deployment?

I know that it have to be installed on the c: drive. But my question is if there are any way to change the default save location during deployment. Because Premiere will be installed on c:\program files\adobe\ adobe premiere elements 12\ but the default scratch disks and project location will be automatically tried to save to their roaming profiles the first time and causing the problem.
Remember this is in a lab environment and new users will log on all the time and therefore get the error messages failures.
    Again, my question is:
Is there a way to change the default start location during DEPLOYMENT (we use Configuration manager 2012) so that it will always start on for example c:\localmedia instead of their documents or appdata folders which are inside their roaming profile.
