Premiere Elements is trying to open an entirely different program!!?!?!

I installed Elements and when I try to open it, it crashes almost immediately. I can get to the "welcome" screen but when I click on "new project" I can see that it it tries to open an entirely different and unrelated program called Amplitube X-Gear (this is a program by IK Multimedia and is made for guitarists). How the hell is this happening and what can I do to get Elements to stop trying to open something it has no business trying to open?

I would anticipate that this other program has seized the File Association for some of the file types, that are normally associated with PrE. File Associations can be adjusted from Control Panel>Folder Options>File Type (or similar syntax, depending on one's OS) in Windows.
Many programs, upon installation will go into the File Associations section and just set all possible file types to point to it. Apple's QT Player used to be bad at this, and Real Player still seems to do the same. I always do a custom install of any program, and will only let them associate with executables, and not media file types, unless they use a proprietary file type for their output, or for their sessions/Projects.
What OS are you using?

All have no affect.

I also have plenty of hard drive space
Cyberlink PowerDirector 11 works fine.
PS - This seems a common complaint about Premiere Elements 12

and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Options Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the whole path cited.
b. Do the uninstall, reinstall with a ccleaner (regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts) in between the uninstall and reinstall with the antivirus and firewalls turned Off.

Adobe premiere Elements 12 will not open editor

I had Adobe Premiere Elements 11 on my laptop and worked fine. Decided to upgrade to Elements 12 and did but version 12 will not open editor, says sign in, I sign in but no editor. Organizer opens and loaded my Photos and videos. I purchased full retail version for download. My laptop runs windows 8.1 and has an Intel Core i5 dual core processor and 4GB ram.

Have you gone to Computer/Manager/Event Viewer/Windows Logs/Applications and looked for error entries that appear to be associated with this problem?
Did you purchase Photoshop Elements 12 as well as Premiere Elements 12, and does Photoshop Elements 12 Full Editor open whereas Premiere Elements 12 will not open to its Expert or Quick workspaces?
You have probably tried it, but can you open to the Premiere Elements workspaces from the Elements Organizer workspace?

Adobe Premiere Elements 12 Is Not Opening (Need Help ASAP)

I tried to start up the program and it won't start. Previously, I would have the problem of my software not starting when I clicked on the icon. I found a way to get around that, but now it isn't starting at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program and nothing has changed. All I get now is a pop-up box that says that the program has stopped working. I really don't know what to do!

You realize that you are not using Premiere Elements 12/12.1 optimally on Windows Vista be it 32 or 64 bit. You still have a Premiere Elements 12/12.1 32 bit application which has computer resource issues when trying to get a larger project taken to completion successfully. With the 32 bit system, the maximum supported installed RAM = 4 GB, typically with 3.2 to 3.0 GB or less of that available. And, you appear to have only 3 GB RAM to start with.
It sounds like it may have worked before from what you wrote. How long ago did it work? And, what was your last activity in a project before you could no longer get the program to open. Are working with a home computer or is this computer part of a company network? In your present computer environment moving to Premiere Elements 13 is not a choice since Premiere Elements 13 does not support Windows Vista 32 or 64 bit.
You could go through the usual drill
a. Latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 12/12.1?
b. Running program from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
c. Video card/graphics card up to date according to web site of the manufacturer of the card?
d. Does problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
e. Where do you have the Scratch Disks directed and how much free hard drive space is at that location?
f. Did you install the program to the default location on the Local Disk C?
What was your way of getting the program to work previously when problems developed?
Let us consider the above and then we can decide what next.

Adobe Premiere Elements 12 won't open

I downloaded Adobe premiere elements 12 on my hp and it keeps telling me I need to log in and register, but once I do it looks like it is loading for a few seconds and then just exits. Please help me fix this problem

What is the computer operating system for your HP computer? And, since it is a HP computer, does it use more than one video card/graphics card.
Premiere Elements has problems with that 2 card system. Please tell us the card situation as shown in Device Manager/Display Adapters.
The usual drill
1. Running computer from a User Account with Administrative Privileges and Run As Administrator applied to desktop icon?
2. Latest version of QuickTime installed on computer with Premiere Elements?
3. Did you install the program to the default, Drive C location?
4. Does the problem exist with and without antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
Even though you cannot open the Premiere Elements Editor, can you open the Elements Organizer?
Let us start here and then decide what next.

For Premiere Elements 11 and 12, you cannot change its default project preset from NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30 or its PAL counterpart PAL AVCHD Full HD1080i25 to something else.
For each project, you can set the project preset manually if you do not want the program to take over setting the project preset based
on the properties of the first drag to the Timeline.
To set the project preset manually, open the project to the Expert workspace, go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
In the Change Settings area, change the project preset. Before you exit that area, be sure to have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project" in the new project dialog.
Then you import your source media, using the appropriate Add Media choice.

Premiere Elements 11 will not open Projects

I had to rebuild my Win 7 PC. Now Premiere Elements 11 will not open Projects saying that the file types are not supported. It will not open raw DV files either.

Along with Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 (presumed 64 bit), do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed? Are you running Premiere Elements 11 as Run As Administrator or from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
Can you open a new project?
When you rebuilt your Window 7, did the source media that went into the existing projects remain in the same save locations with the same file names as before the rebuild?
How are you opening these project.prel files that I am understanding that you created in version 11 before the Windows 7 rebuild?
What is the nature of these "raw DV files" to which you refer? Are these DV AVI standard or widescreen files from a capture firewire into the Premiere Elements Capture Window?
Let us start here and then we can decide what next.

I'm having the same problem. I used it one day and everything was fine...next day, nothing will open. Tried uninstalling and re-installing numerous times but no change. Tried to contact support and they don't support this product (I just purchased it in August). Am VERY disheartened with their customer support.

Adobe Premiere Elements 11 does not open

I just bought adobe photo elements 11 and premiere 11. I already had a trial version from Photo Elements11. With the code I could activate the whole program so this succeeded.
However, I tried to install Adobe Premiere elements 11 (several times) I installed and de-installed and re-installed a couple of times but with no success. During the installation process it does go through the whole installing procedure and everything seemed ok; the icon appears on my desktop but when I try to click to open it, it doesn't open..(it's not doing anything at all, you see the mouse turning into that "swirl circle" very briefly then it stops and nothing opens)
I also tried to download the trial version and hoped with the code I could open it, but nothing happen there either.
Hope you can help me out. I also didn;t receive any error messages.
I have a Intel Core i5-2430M - 2,4 Ghz, Windows7.

Could be the auxilairy processes failing to initialize. Perhaps the event viewer can provide some clues:

Could also be an issue with teh activation stuff, so try running Help --> Deactivate in PSE, then launch PRE to bring up the activation dialog....

Error compiling movie 'unknown error' premiere elements 11, tried every troubleshoot, what now?

I'm trying to export a video and I keep on running into this error message, which stops the export process. I've already visited and tried the troubleshooting suggestions on this page and this page, and this page, and none of those suggestions have worked. Here's a list of what failed:
Export in various file formats, every single one failed
I removed each asset individually and tried to export the video after each removal (100+ assets, imagine how long that took) and I got the error after every single time
I removed the front half of the video and tried exporting, still failed.
I removed the back half of the video (because if it failed if I removed the front, the problem asset should be in the back, right? nope.) and tried exporting, it still failed.
I don't have any Auto Color, Auto Contrast, Auto Levels, or Shadow/Highlight on any of my clips, although if I did, I'd try removing them.
All of my video files are the same format, so it's not a mix of formats in my timeline which is causing the problem.
I tried disabling auto-save, but it already tried to auto-save during the first 20 times I've attempted this, so the damage might already be done.
I obviously didn't use any other programs during this process
I moved all my assets to a different location on my harddrive, then reopened the project and refound the assests one by one, each of which had no problem getting into the timeline. I tried rendering after this, and the render bar sailed along until a certain point, where it got stuck indefinitely. I cancelled the render, which froze the program. I had to close it and re-open the project, and re -link every asset again. Once again there were no problems adding the assets. I saved the project before the next render, so I wouldn't have to do this a third time, and it was a good idea I did, because the program froze again during the subsequent render.
My computer didn't go to sleep or hibernate during the first 5-10 times I tried various methods for exporting. It has slept in some of the 10+ times I've tried it since, because I don't have the patience to sit in front of my screen and watch it fail again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again. CAN YOU TELL THAT I'M FRUSTRATED???
The first thing I noticed that was wonky with this project was when I first tried to render my sequence. The render window chugged along just fine until it got to a certain point (can't remember the %), at which point it got stuck indefinitely. I had to cancel the render, and then render other parts of the sequence bit by bit, avoiding what I thought was the problem part. I tried rendering the problem part, and it got stuck again, so I eventually just decided that that clip didn't need to be in this movie, so I deleted it from the timeline. All should be good at this point, my whole timeline is green from being rendered. But, when I tried to export the video, I started down this tourtuous path of failed exports and frustration, and now here I am, posting in the forum, hoping someone can help me out.
The problem asset (if that was the problem in the first place) isn't in the timeline any more, but I'm still having issues exporting the movie. The fact that rendering still gets stuck after re-linking assets, and after getting rid of the first problem asset, makes me think that there is some bigger underlying issue, but I have no idea what that could be. I followed these instructions and re-opened the project, tried to export, and still got that 'Unknown Error'.
Please assist before I put my fist through this company computer.

Each of the projects should have its own name which will be applied to its files. And each project should have rendered files specific to it (for SD project whether video or still clip = DV .avi file; for HD project whether video or still clip = MPEG2.mpg file). Are you naming these different projects with distinctive names?
Have you expanded the Timeline with the -+ slider and closely inspected the track content for
a. leftovers such a very thin vertical black lines scattered about
b. gaps
c. transitions, and especially audio placement

Premiere Elements 12 won't open a new project

I recently installed premiere elements 12. It is the first time install of any version of this software. When I open the program and click on Video Editor, then New Project ...a black and purple ribbon scrolls for about 2 minutes, then nothing. I have a Dell Inspiron One2305 running Windows 7 - 64 bit, AMD 2.8 Ghz processor. I have 4 gb of RAM and 916 gb of hard disk space. Reading through suggestions, I have tried the following without success:
1. I updated the driver for the AMD 4200 Video Driver.
2. I loaded the software as the administrator, but I unstalled, then created a new administrator account, and reinstalled under the new administrator account.
I'm not a techie by any means, but I can follow directions pretty well. Any help is appreciated.

This is my processor: AMD Athlon II X2 240e
I also loaded the latest version of Quicktime today (forgot to put that in my "what I already tried")
I just ran the Windows Update and one failed with this error: Code 800B0100 Windows Update Encountered an Unknown Error. When I click Get Help with This Error, nothing runs.
Running Disk Clean up and Defrag now.

Premiere Elements 11 will not open after required restart following the installation

An Adobe support tech assisted me with the installation of Photoshop Elements 11 & Premiere Elements 11 using live chat. Before disconnecting live chat, the tech reminded me to restart my computer before using these two programs. I restarted the computer and Photoshop Elements 11 opens and Premiere Elemenst 11 did not. How can I fix this?

Thanks for helping. I tried going to the link and it offered a few different selections to choose from. I tried them all. The one thing it did do, is had me download the Adobe Support Advisor. This checked for problems which it identifed a few things.
When I click on the underlined link, it took me to a website telling me there was conflict with another adobe program running during the installation. I clicked on the button sending the "package" to adobe for their reference.
I have attempted the whole process over again after going into msconfig and disabling everything in the services tab (with MS items hidden), made sure there was nothing in the startup that was adobe related, and disabled the security. This still had the same outcome - doesn't open up after install.
As directed by the link, I tried to look at the install logs located in :/program files (86)/common files/adobe/installers. This "installers" folder doesn't exist.
Everytime I install this program, it ends telling me the program installed correctly.
Am I following your instructions right? I'm learning as we go.

Just installed Adobe Premiere Elements 10 - Crashes upon opening a new Project

I've just installed Adobe Photoshop & Premiere Elements 10 on one of our marketing user's PC, and while Photoshop works like a charm, Premiere Elements 10 crashes every time you try to create a new project. I had read about the fingerprint problem in the forums and deactivated that before my first post.
I am reasonably proficient with CS6 web/design, but I don't have a lot of tech knowledge.
While working today, I had trouble with Acrobat X and had to uninstall/reinstall. I have done more restarts in the last 36 hours!
I uninstalled/reinstalled PrE ... in case something that I had done had helped! Organizer opens but not PrE.
I will put the EventViewer stuff at the end of the post. I didn't know there was an EventViewer until today!
It says something about PCI bus. I went to control panel, etc., devices and there were two instances of PCI bus. I asked Windows to update the driver for both and got a message that it had the most up to date driver. Also indicated they were working properly. When I sent the link at the bottom of the EventViewer info to Windows, I got a screen saying it was an unknown error.
I bought PrE on Saturday ... to replace NERO. I thought it would be more consistent with the other programs I use, but maybe I should cut my losses and go back to NERO??? What do you think?

Premiere Elements 10 will not open in Windows 7 64-bit

I used it last week with no issues. Today, however, I tried to open it, and after clicking on the New Project button in the welcome screen, nothing happened. It acted like it was opening the program, but then it went from the loading bar to displaying the New Project button again.
Short of reinstalling, I've tried running it as an administrator; I went to the file extension and tried opening the Adobe Premiere Elements.exe, but it thinks I'm running a trial version, when I bought the software and it's already fully installed, and displays a "created using the trial version of Adobe Premiere Elements" across the middle of my videos, which as a video blogger, is not something I really want displayed on my content.
I've never had a problem before this, when I've been using this program for over a year!

I tried it, and it made things worse. It undid the workaround I managed to get with the Adobe Premiere Elements.exe (once I entered the serial number it got rid of the 'created using a free trial version' message... using this uninstalled the Adobe Applications Manager that it needed, and then undid that registration, so I'm concerned now for how many uses my serial number has left)
Still doesn't get the main Adobe Premeire Elements 10.exe to work.
