Premiere Pro CC - Hangs on splash screen / slow startup
Hey everyone,
I recently asked another question about CC, but here's another one that's been annoying me since when I first subscribed.
Premiere Pro, in fact, any CC product I use, takes forever to load on startup. When it loads the splash screen it hangs (with no message) for a few minutes at a time before launching the application. I've checked the process and the software is using a consistent amount of CPU. I can only assume it's stuck in some sort of loop while trying to communicate with the activation server, but that's just guesswork on my part. The problem is exactly the same as this user here demonstrates: http://youtu.be/TeE6FBCzrqI
It's more annoying than anything, but for a subscription product it's rather bothersome. It's downright embarassing if a client comes over... and I wonder if it might be tied to some other compatibility issues I've been having.
I've been using CS6 in the mean time, but have to deliver a session through CC now. If anyone's experienced similar problems I'd really appreciate hearing your solutions. Running Windows 7.
Thank you!
Hi Kevin,
Thanks so much for your reply! I've reset the preferences in the past and did so again after your suggestion, but no luck. I even went into the AppData folder to remove the preferences sub-folder altogether. It still hangs and acts as "Not responding" for several minutes before startup.
I wonder if there's any connection between this issue and a second issue I'm having with CC not being able to play ProRes files. http://forums.adobe.com/message/5845690#5845690
In any case, I uninstalled every Adobe Product on my machine, ran the Adobe cleaner successfully, then re-installed Premiere Pro CC. Unfortunately, nothing seems to have changed.

Premiere Pro CC hangs on splash screen "loading ExporterQuicktimeHost.bundle"
Premiere Pro CC hangs on splash screen "loading ExporterQuicktimeHost.bundle"
This happened before when I had CS6. I'm now using CC and haven't had problems until now. I again get the hang up while loading. Previously I trashed the loading ExporterQuicktimeHost.bundle file and this solved the problem.
I tried to contact support. I thought my subscription to CC included support, apparently not.
Anyone else have this Problem?
BrianThanks for the response Kevin.
I tried repairing permissions.
I recently installed OSX 10.8.4 but I've been succesfully using PP since then. PP is up to date v7.0.1
I have read the other forum posts on this.
Again, this problem cropped up using PP CS6, but I was able fix it using this procedure:
1. Go to Applications
2. Go to Adobe Premiere CS6
3. Right click on the application and click on “Show Package Contents”
4. Go to Contents –> Plug-ins –> Common
5. Move the following files to the desktop: ExporterQuicktimeHost.bundle and ImporterQuicktimeHost.bundle
6. Restart Adobe Premiere CS6 and it will successfully open up
This no longer fixes it.
I desperately need to get back to work.
Even though I feel Adobe support should be included in a CC subscription, I'm considering purchasing Adobe Bronze support with a max wait time of 4 hours and only alloted phone calls for $175
thanks anyway -
Premiere Pro not loading after splash screen, can't find fix on forums.
Fresh install, doesn't matter what I do to this machine, memcheck came out ok. I click on Premiere Pro CS3 icon loads splash screen, then kicks out an error code.

Adobe Premiere Pro CC Crash on Splash Screen
My Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 is crashing on the splash screen. My Adobe Premiere Pro CC was not crashing until 2014. I am very angry and frustrated this subpar update was forced on us.
I have tried:
Uninstalling and re-installing SEVERAL TIMES
I have tried changing the compatibility issues to windows 7
I have tried running in administration mode
I have started my computer several times
I have tried updating my video drivers
My computer specs:
ASUS G75V gaming laptop
1tb SSD
12g ram
3gb video memory
I have deadlines for clients and this is VERY frustrating!!!!Hey everyone. I'm having the exact same issues. I've been using Premiere Pro CC for over a year, and only just recently started having issues with it. Now, every time I launch it crashes(not responding) before it even gets to the project screen.
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Intel i7 4820k 3.70 Ghz Processor
Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 graphics card with the latest drivers. 9.18.13.4052
8 GB of DDR3 1333Mhz RAM
So far I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all graphics drivers as well as Premiere with no luck.
I then uninstalled every single Adobe application, including CC. Then reinstalled CC and Premiere by themselves. Still no luck. -
Premiere Pro CC crashes at splash screen
Hello everyone. Having a problem that I hope someone can help me resolve.
This morning I restarted my workstation and when it rebooted I was unable to launch Premiere Pro CC. It gets stuck on the purple splash screen that normally loads all of the assets. After a while, it says "Premiere Pro CC is not working" and gives me a crash log. I'll post the crash log but first I'll list some of the things i've tried to fix this..
1. Restart the computer
2. Update all drivers
3. Run Premiere in compatibility mode and as an admin
4. Reinstall Premiere
5. Adobe tech support used remote acces to replace the file "dvamarshal.dll" in my Premiere folder (but it still doesn't work)

As you mentioned that there is a dead line you can run the Premier pro in standard VGA mode.
To make in standard VGA mode.
1. right click on my computer -> click on Manage
2.on the computer management window on the left side click on the option for Deivce manager
3.Expand Dispaly Adpaters Option
4.Right click on the video card (AMD Or Nvedia) ->select Upgrade device driver
5.select Browse my computer for driver software
6.Select Let me pick from the listof device driver on my computer

Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder running slow
Hello everyone,
I'm having trouble with CS4, which is running significantly slower than CS3 did on a older machine. The CS4 suite is installed on a Dell Precision M6400:
Windows Vista 64-Bit
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9400 @ 2.53 GHz
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M Graphics with 512MB dedicated memory
The OS is running on a 57.5 GB HD (C:) and the Adobe suite is installed on a 298 GB Solid State HD (D:), except for Adobe Media Encoder, which is installed on the C: drive.
My project has 4 15-16 minute sequences. The sequences are in DV NTSC, 29.97 fps, My scratch disks are set to a folder on the C: drive. Media Cache Files and the Media Cache Database points to a folder on the D: drive.
These are some of the problems I'm having:
- Premiere Pro CS4 generates peak files every time I open a project
- It then takes 3-5 minutes to render before I can preview a 16-minute sequence
- Adobe Media Encoder takes 5 hours to render a 16-minute sequence (as flv) that has been previously rendered
- AME takes 1 hour to render every 15 minute sequence that has never been rendered before
Are my settings affecting their performance? Is there any way to improve it? Thanks.
(Premiere Pro is the only app that is slow)The data rate for replay is one thing, the data rate from disk to memory then from memory to CPU and back the other way are different matters and ought not to be confused. It is well-established that for a computer to edit AVCHD you need top end components, and note that I said there were three tasks to distinquish with increasing hardware requirements, namely merely replaying the video, specifying edits in the editor and then the rendering. It is commonly accepted by all the industry vendors that to do remotely commercial AVCHD rendering you need a minimum Quadcore CPU then that eats data fast, in order to not let it go to waste you need a fast motherboard bus fast memory and in order for none of those to go to waste you need the fastest disk set-up you can manage. I in fact have a 4-disk RAID0 volume using SATA (I think the disk model is SATAII but I have to await return from the repair center before I can confirm). For this RAID0 volume I have run speed test software from BlackMagic because I have one of their HDTV capture cards. It recorded that this volume which remember is doing parallelised IO is just fast enough to receive a encoded HDTV stream from the BlackMagic card but too slow to receive an uncompressed HDTV stream, indeed when I tried both I found the volume did keep up with compressed but fell behind with uncompressed. Remember that with a RAID0 volume of 4 SATAII disks a given file gets spread over the four disks and hence IO is spread over those 4 3G/s data lanes. Also remember with these disks 3G/s is just a burst speed, for AVCHD we are interested in sustained serial IO which is much less.
Before my machine broke down, I found that it took 5 hours to render 33 minutes of HDTV albeit as it went along it transcoded from AVCHD to a Microsoft HD format for Vista-only. Another interesting thing is that I found that the longer this render ran the slower it became, the estimated time started at 3 hours but the actual was five and the last one third took maybe 3 hours. Because the machine broke after that run I couldn't figure the bottleneck. For my machine bear in mind that at the repair shop we found that the Quadcore had only half the necessary electrical power plugged in, the monitor software showed however that it constantly ran around 90% of whatever capacity that reduced power supply permitted. Now then we can puzzle over why it got slower and slower and yet CPU consumption remained consistent and near to full capacity, memory was not the bottleneck because that was constant at 6.4G. But you can say that this was maybe performing like a Dualcore and was hitting some sort of wall, if you had a 1 hour render with that rate of degeneration of performance factored in what would happen to the render time, and for 3 hours you could be running indefinitely. I hope when the machine comes back the correct power supply will make it behave like a Quadcore should for this type of application. Anyway I have two theories for the degradation. First is just that PrProCS4 was getting its knickers in a twist and thereby just doing more computation per minute of video to be rendered as time went by, maybe internal resource management related to OO-type programming maybe, or related to disk IO falling behind, both these theories have problems, for the latter the CPU usage should then have dropped also.
Anyways, you need really a Quadcore system and blazing fast disk to work fully with AVCHD commercially, we found an external SATAII disk so if I were you I would just go get one and move on with your life.

For AVCHD you MUST have FAST disks.
AVCHD actually has a lower data date than DV. You need lots of CPU muscle, but disk speed is really not a factor specific to AVCHD. Anything that works for DV will work just as well for AVCHD (and HDV as well).

CS5 Premiere, After Effects, and Encore hang on splash screen - Solution
I just installed Production Premium CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit system. The install went without a hitch, but when I attempted to start Premiere, After Effects or Encore, they would all hang at some place with the splash screen showing. I spent 2 hours on the phone with Adobe and they never solved the problem. They had me uninstall iTunes and Quicktime, upgrade my nVidea driver and upgrade to a newer version of Quicktime. None of this made a difference and at that point I realized they were not going to fix my problem. The first woman was an idiot and the guy I spoke to next was a lot better, but no solution. Premiere was hanging when loading the Quicktime plug-ins.
Then I had an Aha! moment. I shut off User Account Control, rebooted and then everything worked. I could also get the programs to work with UAC on if I changed the shortcut to "Run as Administrator" but then there would be a UAC prompt. By the way, I was running as a user with full administrator privileges.
I am astounded that Adobe has never encountered this problem before and did not have an immediate solution. Once again, Adobe Tech Support has continued to provide pathetic tech support.
SteveThe plug-ins that were involved in the hang on the splash screen were:
ExporterQuickTimeHost.prm
ImporterQuickTime.prm
The splash screen would hang for 5 minutes on each of these and then if PPro started it would only be a plain white window with the Menu Bar and then there would be no further response. -
PhotoShop CS3 Hangs on Splash Screen - New MacBook Pro w/Mavericks
I just loaded CS3 PhotoShop and Illustrator onto my new 15" Retna MacBook Pro running Mavericks.
The programs begin to start up but get hung up at the splash screen.
There's nothing I can do except Force Quit the application. All of the top menu items are grayed out rendering the programs useless.
I've attached a screen shot of what it looks like when PhotoShop loads.
How do I resolve this?
I've let the applications just sit for over 20 minutes but nothing happens. They're just stuck.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

10.6 -- All Office 2008 apps hang at splash screen. FontCache Tool runaway
Did an upgrade of 10.5 to 10.6. Nearly everything works fine. Can't launch Office 2008. All apps hang at their splash screen; usually at Optimizing Font Menu Performance.
Once an app is opened, in Activity viewer you'll find a process called FontCache Tool using >90% of the CPU (on my Core Duo MBP at least, YMMV). I suppose it's saying a lot about 10.6 that the computer is completely usable with that runaway process. Even after forcing the office app(s) to quit, Font Cache Tool stays running until it's killed manually.
I have yet to find out if FontCache Tool is an Apple or MS process. I think it's microsoft.
This happens under multiple users.
This happens after reinstalling Office.
This was an Office 2008 upgrade from Office 2004.
After reinstall, and installing Rosetta, office 2004 will run, but office 2008 will not.
Office 2008 is 12.2.1.
I am running FontAgent Pro for font management, and so font book sees certain activated fonts as duplicates. (Validate fonts shows duplicate warnings but no errors). FontAgent Pro 4.0.3 is listed as Snow Leopard compatible. So is Office 2008.
I have yet to do a clean SL install, which I'm guessing will fix it, but I'm curious if there is a sub-sledgehammer approach, or if I am the only person with this issue.
Other probably irrelevant facts include that the computer is bound to both Active Directory and OS X OpenDirectory servers. Open Directory is running on Leopard 10.5 Server. It does have some managed preferences, including those for Office (e.g. to set default to .doc rather than .docx) but the situation persists even after removing those managed preferences.
Normally really specific problems are easy to isolate and solve, but I'm at a loss.
Any help appreciated
keppieHey i think i figured it out.
Had the same prob. 10.6 12.2.1 entourage hanging.
Renamed FCT, instantly prompted that a font was corrupt. Removed the corrupt Font: KufiStandardGK.ttf << this just happened to be my one corrupt font.
A little troubleshooting i did leading up to this, I read your post and my situation was the same. I use Linotype X to manage fonts. I disabled all but the minimum fonts (i moved them into a folder font_trouble in the same folder)
I also deleted every office pref/plist setting i thought relevant to startup which triggered the microsoft setup assistant (watched via the console app) and it ran through its check and then immediately the fontcachetool started and went awol on cpu time. Once i killed it--during the starting up of word and entourage... timing may be unrelated but i did them at nearly the same time.
Ps. Your post was extremely well written and I apologize for my stream of consciousness, less than stelllar response... hope this helps if not feel free to ping me for more details on what I did...
Good Luck.. All my office apps are running normally now. -
Premiere Pro CS5 hangs on startup exporterquicktimehost.prm
Premiere was working fine for me and then last night I tried to open it but on startup it would hang up on loading exporterquicktimehost.prm. The same startup freeze happens with after effects when "initializing mediacore". I have searched and tried all the suggestions without any luck.
-I uninstalled and reinstalled both adobe CS5 suite, and quicktime
-Tried older versions of quicktime
-moved the specific exporter and importer files which resulted in premiere loading but then crashing on a white screen.
-added rules to windows firewall (only firewall I have) and tried completely off
-deleted preferences from appdata folder and changed attributes to "not hidden"
nothing has worked except this morning I created a new windows user and premiere opened up and loaded fine, now this seems to obviouslly be something to do with user settings but I am not sure what.
I have searched and found other people have had this problem, but there are no definitive solution. Can anybody help solve this issue? Worst case scenario I will have to re adjust my documents and such to the newly created user and delete the old one, but it seems like it is narrowed down enough to figure it out.hi.. DigitalRicky,
did you ever come to a solution for this?
I believe I am having the same or simular problem.
im on a mac .. 10.5.8 with enought disk spack.. about 50gb
have downloaded update for primiere.
two things are happening
1.freezes/stalls/doesn't respond on opening program.. I have to force quit it or on some occasions it just quits itself. this occurs on new and exsisiting projects.
2. on 3 occasions after i had fiddled around with deleting preferences, i have been able to edit .. however no unable to add footage as the second i trie to add footage to timeline it stalls/freezes/does not respond. then i have a world of hurt and can't re open.. back to problem 1.
what trouble shooting i have done..
1. uninstall/reinstall
2. run no other software etc.
3. Documents>Adobe>AdobeProductName (like Premiere Pro) Inside of this, there is a folder with a number (usually 4.0 for CS4). Take that to the trash and restart your application. -> this is where i can start old project but not a new one..
4. run disk utility on comp
5. re start comp etc
im not to sure on what else i can do ..
I would GREATLY appreciate any help.
thanks heaps!

Desktop Manager Will not Load. Hangs on splash screen when loading, then crashes
My desktop manager is not loading, and hangs whenever it is attempted to load. I have done a clean uninstall, removed rim registry entries, and did a fresh download and install 3 times with full shut downs between each attempt. I am running Windows 7 service pack 1 with an HP Laptop. It is an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC. Product Number LY080UA. I hope that is enough information, but I will give more if asked and informed how to gather such info.
When I right click on the Desktop Manager Icon, I choose to run as Admin. Once it loads the splash screen shows. After a little bit (4-6 seconds) a small Icon appears in my systems tab at the bottom right of my screen. This stays for a little while and then goes away. After this happens the Splash screen hangs, and get a black border around it. If I click on the Splash screen it grey out and says not responding, prompting windows to ask me if I want to wait for the program or close. If I choose to wait, it will sit there and do nothing. If I close it will prompt windows to "look for an error" but has not yet been able to return an answer.
When I log into safe mode, Desktop Manager loads, but does not work well as only a bare bones set of drivers are enabled. If I turn off all but the non-essential services off using services.msc it will load, but again the services needed for it to run and the services for windows to be fully functional are not on at all.
I have attempted to turn off all but the Desktop manager in the start up, using msconfig, but that does not help either.
I am at my wits end here, and would really like some help with this. It loads up (desktop manager) on my Desktop, but I am unable to log that mammoth box around with me while I travel.
Thank you for your time and efforts, I will be very grateful for any and all help.I'm having the exact same problem here! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64. Please help! This was posted a month ago.
