Premiere Pro CC Nested Sequence Reverse Speed Makes Black Footage

So... I have had this problem on three separate projects over the last few months.
2 of the projects were using video files and 1 of the projects used an image sequence. So type of footage does not appear to be an issue.
The issue is the same regardless. The issue below is happening using a DSLR 1080p30 sequence. I have tested this in other sequences such as AVCHD 1080p30 and HDV 1080P30. The issue does not occur on other 1080p30 sequences. It seems to be an issue with the DSLR sequence only.
Create a sequence-> place footage or images in that sequence -> make any needed edits, effects, etc. -> Place the first sequence into a new sequence (this sequence plays back fine) ->copy that sequence or nest the sequence from the project files list a second time -> right click->select "Speed/Duration"-> Click "Reverse Speed"-> Click ok.
This process should give you one nested sequence that plays forwards and one that plays backwards.
The issue that has happened repeatedly over the last few months is that the reversed sequence turns to black footage. If I expand the track the footage still shows up as a thumbnail. Also, the sequence maintains its time. The entire sequence turns black from start to finish.
This is possibly similar to the previous fixed multicam nested sequence issue but is new as of CC 14.2.
Any suggestions outside of not using that sequence type would be appreciated. Also, hopefully Adobe sees this and can verify if there is in fact an update issue that has caused this specific issue.

Rolling back to driver 314.22 did seem to work at first but got the same issue.
Adding footage to the timeline =  working,
Add adjustment layer = stil working
add lumetri effect with a LUT = the Lut isn't applied and the image freezes
Removing the adjustment layer = pause frames are black

  • Reverse speed produced blank footage

Using PrPro CS5 with 2 clips overlaying each other.  I have a sequence with settings 720X480 1.21 widescreen 29.97 FPS
I have a shot of a television shot at 1280X720 and I'm overlaying the screen with another piece of footage that is 720X480 1.0 stretched to wide screen to fit.  I am trying to demonstrate that the footage I have on the screen can be played "backwards" but when I apply this effect (right click on footage, speed/duration, check the "reverse speed" box), the footage play choppy.  It blacks out for over half the duration of the clip.  Any help?

  • Adobe Premiere Pro: place image sequence in reverse order on timeline

    Hi all,
I have a jpg image sequence numbered from frame000 to frame100. It imports in numerical order...obviously. I am trying to find a way of dragging the files onto the timeline so they begin at frame and descend in order. Shift clicking in the direction you want doesn't work as it does in aftereffects.
I know I can nest and reverse the speed but I would prefer to avoiding nesting at this stage. I also have no option to renumber the files as this is how they are generated and I have a tonne of them to import.
    Hope someone can help.

I'm sorry. I know this is not the way it's done. Within an hour you replied to this customer? I've posted mine days ago and haven't received any replies??!! How is that possible? Sorry Gingergingers for highjacking your thread.
Trent. Please. Either you and your adobe friends shove me properly or tell me where to find the answer if it has already been discussed somewhere else.
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1685295
I must be doing something seriously wrong if even the tread is ignored! Never mind the App.
I hope it's not presumptuous of me to speak for Trent, but I know him well and we're in the same situation. We are not official tech support representatives for Adobe. We do our forum (and other support) work largely on our own time as a way to assist our customers. We just do this as time allows, so there is no way of knowing who's been waiting for days or just an hour. It's usually just a matter of what we see on the main page (or in our inboxes) when we happen to log on. Also, some issues are a lot easier to address than others. For example, this one was just a basic workflow problem that just needed to be sorted out and had a correct answer. The thread that you posted above was a lot more specific, not easily repro-able by all of us, and doesn't seem to have any easy answers (at least not yet). It's a lot harder for people to address when it's like that, which is probably why you received very few comments at first. I see that both Trent and Kevin have commented to try to help you now, so the best thing is to just try to work with them and other users to see if you can alleviate your frustrations a bit. I can empathize with your situation, but you have to understand that most of us are really just fellow users on here. Thanks for your support.
I've marked Trent's answer to this thread correct BTW... Nice one, Trent! I'm glad it worked for you, Ginger.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 switching sequence settings from previously edited video clips

When importing my video clips into Premiere Pro, which are currently set at 1920 x 1080 both from the video clip and sequence settings, it switches  to 720 x 480 (says file has mismatch - keep or change settings, I've done both results the same) when I export and when I put clip on timeline it switches it to 1440 x 1020.  The video clips were done on a earlier version of Premiere Pro at another facility, where we put the audio and video together to make a complete video clip  We shot the footage using a Canon DSLR at 24 ups and are MOV files, done on a Mac
If anyone else has had this problem and found a solution, plese pass on.
    Carl A.

Take your imported footage and create the sequence by dropping one of the video files on to the "New Item" button.
If your footage is actually showing in the project panel as 1920X1080, the sequence that will be created will match that. Guaranteed.

  • Premiere Pro is so slow to export - make more efficient?

So I'm shooting 1080p 30fps Canon T2i footage and want to export 1080p for youtube.
I have maybe 25 five-second clips and each requires:
    1. correct barrel distortion (curvature -3)
    2. increase color saturation
    3. luminance curve
    4. sharpen
    5. fade in / fade out transitions
    6. titles
For a 3 minute video it takes 1hr to export! This is on an i5 and SSD.
Anything I can do to speed this up? Maybe some more efficient presets? Right now I'm using seperate presets for each of the effects above. Thanks!

  • Premiere Pro CC's sequence lost. Is there a way to "search" for it from outside the project?

I seem to have lost a sequence created in Premiere Pro CC. I can't find it anywhere inside the Project bin.
We have so many same-name, older projects (between Auto-Save, different drives and so on) that looking inside each of them would take forever.
But we do know the name of the sequence. I am wondering  if there is a way to "search" for a sequence name from outside the project?
    Thanks

there is a way to "search" for a sequence name outside of the project,
but it would be a pointless waste of time.
sequences are only saved within the project file itself!!
We have so many same-name, older projects (between Auto-Save, different drives and so on) that looking inside each of them would take forever.
    better get at it then!

  • How do I set custom frame size in Premiere Pro 5.5 sequence.

I need to set a custom frame size in Premiere Pro 5.5.

If you realy feel 'lazy' or have no idea what settings to choose you can drag the clip the into the New Item icon. This will create a matching sequence.

  • Premiere Pro CC, Project / sequence settings help with GoPro 1080p / 60fps

    Hi all,
I have just started using Premiere Pro CC with the GoPro Hero3+ black edition, but my video's, once exported do not look very smooth and clean like HD video should?
The video settings on the GoPro are 1080p / 60fps, narrow view (protune off), I then import these .MP4 video files into PP CC and use these sequence settings:
    29.97fps
    1920 x 1080 / 16:9
    Square pixels (1.0)
    No fields (progressive scan)
    30 fps drop-frame timecode
Preview file format: I-Frame only MPEG
    Maximum bit depth
So, my question is, should my sequence settings be at 60fps to match the 60fps I used to capture the video with? How should I edit 1080p / 60fps video in order to get nice clean, smooth HD video playback on youtube?
    My export settings are:
    H.264
    1920 x 1080
    29.94
    Progressive
    Square pixels (1.0)
    NTSC
    Profile: Main
    Level: 5.1
    Render at maximum depth
    VBR, 2 pass
    Target Mbps: 40
    Max Mbps: 50
Keyframe distance box checked and says: 90
    Use maximum render quality
Here is the video I uploaded to youtube: Deal Tri Summer Duathlon May 2014 - YouTube
    What do you think?
Any help would be very much appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Paul

No problem. When you click sequence > sequence settings, what does your editing mode say? I use AVCHD 1080p square pixel. You can change this to 'custom' which will give you more control over the settings if you need to, but if you use the method I described earlier then you shouldn't need to change anything. Maybe if some of your videos are 2.7k or 4k resolution mixed with 1080p videos then you could play with the settings.
Just remember that if you start a new project and have for example, four videos shot at 1080p and one at 4k, if you drag and drop the 4k video to the 'new item' bin then your sequence will match the 4k resolution settings and when you drag the other 1080p videos on the sequence time line, they will not fill the screen and would need to be 'scaled' in to fit the screen, thus making them look terrible. The best way would be to drag n drop the 1080p video(s) and then include the 4k video on the timeline and just 'scale' / 'crop' it to fit the screen.
    All the best!
    Paul

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Project & Sequence Settings

I will be shooting with a Sony NEX-VG10 set at a Record Mode of FH 17M (which I have no clue what it is)
The camera records 1920 x 1080 Full HD videos (I don't know if its 1920x1080i or p)  (The user guide that came with the camara doesn't explain much of anything)
The memory card that I will use to record the clips is a 32GB SDHC
I want to know the settings that I should choose to edit the clips in Premiere Pro CS5.
    1)  Project Settings asks me to select between DV and HDV.  Is HDV the right one?
    2)  Sequence Settings is getting me more confused than I am already:
In previous projects (with a different camera) I have chosen DV NTSC as I had set the Project as DV but also because of the NTSC
In the Sequence Settings if I go along with HDV it doesn't give me the NTSC option but it lists several 1080i and 1080p options.
         Which one should I choose?
Finally, when I am all done I will burn an HD DVD with Encore.
I am assuming that using the same edited video I could also burn an SD DVD: is that possible?
The whole project will probably turn a 45 min. video.
    Thanks for your help.

When creating a new project I have to specify location, name, etc... PLUS I also have to indicate the capture format
No, you don't.  You can hit cancel.  If you've shot on media cards, you have no need to Capture.
Secondly, comes the Sequence Settings where there are a bunch of available presets listed such AVCHD, DV-24P, DV-NTSC, DV-PAL and so on... also HDV.... and within each one there are further options for example under HDV:  1080i 25, 1080i 30, 1080p etc....
Which one is the one I should choose?
That's already been explained in this thread.  And it's also covered thoroughly in the Pr Help documentation.
If understand correctly you are suggesting that I forget this screen and just add my clips and create New Sequence from Clip.  This you say will automatically attach to it the proper preset.  Pardon my ignorance but I can't figure out how it will work.  Will I have a new sequence for each clip?
Right.  Have you even tried it yet?  You can select a bunch of clips, and drag them to the New Sequence icon also.  They'll all be added to a new Sequence based on the source clip's settings.
Finally, when I mentioned I will burn an HD DVD I meant: a High Definition  DVD and also was considering burning a Standard Definition  DVD and was asking if it would be possible.
You're using incorrect terminology.  There is no HD DVD.  There is DVD, and there is Blu-Ray.  The different formats have different names.

  • My webcam turns on when using Premiere Pro CC. How do I make this stop?

Got a weird one here folks...
It seems as though my webcam (Logitech C110) is turning itself on whenever I am using Premiere Pro CC.
When any window within Premiere is selected the green light besides the lens turns on...when I click "out of" Premiere...it goes off.
I seriously doubt Adobe is pulling some NSA-esque reconnaissance here. Does anyone else have this "problem" and if so do you know a way to fix this?
    Best,
    Alex

I believe this issue has been present since day one of signing up for CC. Anyone have a solution?

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 Sequence Running Very Slow

    Hello,
I am working on a documentary project with over 500 hours of HD footage, and over 20,000 assets (according to PPro’s media loading indicator). The main file format is MXF (~50 Mbps), with some H.264, GoPro, and iPhone thrown in.
My assistant is in the process of transcoding everything to ProRes 422 Proxy (~28 Mbps) 1920x1080, with the intent to upres to ProRes HQ once picture is locked. So footage is continually being off-lined and relinked as ProRes while I'm in this initial editing phase.
I have only been editing for about a month, but it has been a smooth experience until about a week ago after I updated to CC 2014, turned Peak File Generation on, and my main sequence started getting over 30 minutes long. There are no added filters. It’s just basic footage and cuts.
Now as soon as I start my project, it lags several seconds when I click in the timeline or press play - just any timeline action really. But it’s not consistent. It’s slow about 75% of the time. Sometimes it will be going fast, then when I quickly make multiple keystrokes it becomes a snail.
When I’m in a smaller sequence of under 5 minutes, or just in the Project Panel, it runs much smoother, but is beginning to lag more often. And in the 30+ min sequence, it is slower when zoomed out than when zoomed in. But just the zooming in process is laggy.
This is the main issue I’m having, and I’m concerned it will continue to get worse as the final project will be around 2 hours long, with a likely 4+ hour initial assembly. I'll eventually split it up into 10-20 minute reels, but am not at that stage yet. I'm aware this could be either a software issue on Adobe's part or workflow issue on my part. So any feedback is welcome.
Here’s the fixes I’ve attempted so far:
    1) Cleaned the Media Cache Database, and have the Media Cache saving to a secondary internal HDD.
    2) Changed the Program preview from Full to 1/4 quality.
    3) Turned off Automatic Peak File Generation, but most clips already have them generated.
    4) In ‘Sequence Settings,’ turned off ‘Composite in Linear Color’ (since it requires GPU acceleration or max render quality.)
    5) Removed all the plug-ins (which are mostly Red Giant) from the MediaCore folder.
    6) Uninstalled CS6 programs, still have CC installed.
    6) Exported an XML, and re-imported into a fresh, new CC 2014 project and a CC (7.2.2) project.
    7) Reinstalled CC 2014.
    8) In Sequence Settings, changed Preview File Format from I-Frame Only MPEG to Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy)
    Same results throughout.
    Workstation Specs:
    Mac Pro 2012, OS 10.9
    2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
24 GB Ram (18 dedicated to PPro)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 Graphics card for dual monitors
NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for Cuda GPU Processing
    Storage Specs:
480 GB SSD for Startup & OS
External 56 TB SAS RAID for media & project files
    Thanks in advance!

  • Premiere Pro CS4 - Missing Sequence Presets?

    Hi -
I recently installed the Production Premium suite on a mac running snow leopard, and ran all the updates. Premiere is at version 4.2.1. When I create a new sequence, these are my preset options:
Am I missing the XDCAM EX and XDCAM HD presets, or am I just not looking in the right place?
Incidentally, when I installed the suite, I ran into a problem where After Effects wouldn't launch. This was solved by uninstalling and reinstalling that particular app. I got an error message right at the end of that re-installation (a generic DONE WITH ERRORS), but everything has been working just fine with that program. Is it possible Premiere was affected by my re-install of AE?
    Thanks for your help.
    Ed

I gave it another try, and I now have both After Effects launching and otherwise behaving as it should, and I have the missing sequence presets back in Premiere. I followed both your instructions to the letter, making sure not to open any other programs during the installation process and rebooting the computer after each step. I even ran CleanScript four times, just to make sure. (It didn't find anything, but perhaps it helped anyway?)
One other thing I did differently was to avoid the Adobe Updater. After installing CS4 this latest time, the first thing I did before adding any of the updates was to check After Effects (it launched) and Premiere (the presets were all there). On my first two installations, I just went straight from installation to having Adobe Updater download and install all the updates. It's possible that things were working fine, and the problems were introduced during the mass installation of all the updates. So this time, starting with After Effects, I downloaded just the 9.0.2 update and installed it, rebooted, and then checked both AE and Premiere - everything was still fine. Then I did the same with the 4.2.1 update for Premiere, rebooted, and checked them both - still fine. I ended up doing each app one at a time, checking along the way to make sure no particular update broke anything else in the suite. It was probably a bit overkill after those first two, but I was so close, I didn't want to screw it up by being careless.
Incidentally, after that second installation didn't work, I submitted a ticket to Adobe Customer Support. They got back to me last night, and their solution was to just download the plugins for the missing presets here:
    www.adobe.com/products/plugins/premiere/
If anyone else is having difficulty, maybe that's another way to go.
    Thanks again for your advice.

  • Premiere Pro 5.5 Sequences Won't Export

I haven't changed any settings, yet suddenly I can't export any sequences.
I go File -> Export -> Media, hit the Queue button, it goes to the status bar that says it's exporting media, and then it just sits there.
Since I haven't changed any settings, I don't have a clue what to do to resolve this issue.
Does anyone have any thoughts on a solution? Or at least a reason why it's not working anymore.

Hi, I'm having pretty much the same problem but after trying several of these solutions i'm still stuck,
I'm not sure how to delete preferences, turn of GPU acceleration,  I'm a little afraid to delete preview files incase i'm deleting files i've rendered already?
I've completed a 30 minute film using 3 different types of digital cameras.
When i try to export it my system crashes and i have to open it again.
the project file is 35GB and i have over 100GB space on my external usb hard drive, so i know there is enough space, i also deleted temp files and unused files too.
I contacted an experienced film maker and took my hard drive to him so he could export it on his system and that also crashed, but he was able to export the entire video of the sequence but unticking the export audio, so i have a 30 minute film with no sound and i've put it down to an audio issue.
I had the same problem when trying to export the film when it was just 20 minutes long, i then cleared the media cache and deleted a lot of unwanted files etc, and then i was able to export the film. now it's 10 minutes longer and the issue seems impossible to solve.
the only solution i can think of is to delete the last 10 minutes of audio (which isn't really an option) or somehow record the audio into a seperate file and import it into the project
I'm not entirely sure of the exact details you would need from me but if there is any please ask
    Using windows 7
    4.00GB of RAM
    Dual processor
    Thanks for reading!
