Premiere Pro CS5 crashing when exporting (only certain file types)

Hi
I have found that when I try and export media in Premiere Pro CS5, it often crashes during the export. It says
It's only certain file types. For instance, Vimeo HD seems okay but Vimeo SD always crashes mid-export. MPEG is okay too, but MPEG2-DVD always crashes.
Sometimes it says this: "Error Compiling Movie - Unknown Error" but doesn't throw me out of Premiere altogether.
Other times it crashes altogether and Windows gives me this error message: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 258.96 stopped responding and has successfully recovered". Premiere Pro then stops responding so I have to re-open it and start exporting again.
I have checked there are no gaps in my timeline and I have rendered the whole work area. Besides, I doubt it's anything that I'm doing wrong with the project itself because it's exporting fine in some formats.
I am also experiencing random crashes when editing too. Not that often, but occasionally it throws me out - and twice it has made the whole screen go crazy, with weird dotting across the screen (it's scary, it looks like the monitor itself has broken!).
Any help would be appreciated!
Nick
PS I have a pretty decent new PC - Dell Studio XPS, 8GB, 2x1TB drives, etc. Premiere itself is working great, except for these crashes.

Some drivers do not work well in some systems... so go to nVidia and try a different (usually newer) driver for your card
These notes are for Encore, but they MAY also work in Premiere

Premiere Pro CS5 crash when adjusting audio gain
    The same on another workstations.
    Have any idea?

    Hi Dennis,
I just had a go and can reproduce the problem straight away too.
Created a new project then a new XDCAM EX 1080p25 sequence. Imported a short Sony PMW-350 clip. Dragging it straight to the timeline and then setting audio gain is OK (Source channel mapping preferences set to mono).
However, if I Modify - Audio Channels and then set track format as stereo or mono as stereo and then drag the clip to the timeline and right click - gain, Premiere crashes about 1/2 to 1 second after the audio gain dialogue box appears. Error log below if it's useful.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 crashes when exporting to Encore CS3

"Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down.  We will attempt to save your current project."
That is the error message.  I am editing an AVCHD project in which I already converted as an .mpg prior to importing into Premiere (since CS3 does not import AVCHD natively).  This is the first time I am doing this workflow, as a client has given me AVCHD files to work with.  The project RT is 1 hr 2 min.  I need to create a DVD and Blu-ray of this project.
    System Specs
    ~Processor:  AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core Processor 2.30GHz
    ~RAM:  4.00 GB
    ~OS:  Windows Vista 32-bit
~Have the most recent updates for all CS3 programs
    I tried:
    Exporting to Encore
~Tried various settings for DVD.  NTSC Progressive Widescreen High Quality, Medium, etc.
~Tried the preset for exporting Blu-ray to Encore.
~Created a new sequence with about 7 min of the project to see if it was a corrupt file; same results.
    Using Adobe Media Encoder
~Used various presets and custom settings with the same result [error message; Premiere "stops working" and then crashes]
~Created a new sequence with about 7 min of the project to see if it was a corrupt file; same results.
I observed the Windows Task Manager when Premiere is opened and then when it crashes.  The RAM is at 1.12GB before the project is opened, goes up to 2.17GB when it is opened, and remains about the same when it crashes.  The CPU Usage is about 4-10% before the project is opened, spikes dramatically (+/- 10-80%) when Premiere is opened as well when it crashes.
I appreciate any and all help.  Thank you to everybody in advance who will contribute a solution to my problem!

    Hi Jim,
I'm exporting Media into a file format suitable for Vimeo.  The interesting thing is that when exporting directly from Premiere Pro CC v7.2.1, I experienced the crash, but when I queued the job in AME, it ran to completion.  Trying to export directly from within PPro again causes it to crash, this time flagging ImporterREDServer.exe as the abending application.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Crashing When Cutting Unlinked Audio

Premiere crashes often when I attempt to cut an unlinked audio track.  Message appears "A serious error has occurred and Premiere must close".  Timeline has only 1 video and 2 mono audio tracks from 30p miniDV source material.
    Running version 5.0.3
    Windows 7 64-bit w/ current updates
New machine - just assembled by my company's IT guy with video editing in mind (SD from miniDV for web streaming).
Specs:    ACPI x64 - based PC
                   Intel i7 processor
                   6 gb memory
Dual Nvidia GEForce GTS 450 video cards - driver updated v. 8.17.12.6099

    Project/Sequence Settings: DV  NTSC 30p, 29.97 no field order(progressive), 720X480 (.9091 pixel aspect ratio)
Project contains 16 sequences, each approx. 30 mins of 30p DV with 1 video and 2 mono audio tracks - live conference presentations - default track setting 'mono' to seperate ch1 and ch2 audio.
After unlinking audio and video,  Premiere crashes frequently when I attempt to cut an audio track.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Went in to NVIDIA control panel and realized SLI was disabled so only running one card.
Re-installed drivers, enabled SLI, and added card to PPRO .txt file so that GPUSniffer.exe would recognize it.
MPE acceleration is now enabled and PPRo seems to be much more stable so far.
Thanks for the suggestion, Harm...got me going down the right path.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Crashes when exporting H264 files

I shot a video with Canon 5D Mark III (1080p) and edited a 4 minute video which I am trying to export as an H264 file. I used the preset for Vimeo 29.97, 1080. But every time the export stops half way and premiere Crashes. I tired 5,6 times and each time it workds for 2-3 hours before crashing. It actually succeeded once but the audio had some issues. After that I could not export again! Any suggesions?
I am using a Mac book Pro 15 inch, mid 2009, 8gb ram, running Mountain Lion and have the latest updates for Premiere installed.
    Thanks

Try deleting all previous instances and partially-exported versions of the file.  Then open a different Premiere Pro project (it doesn't matter which one; even a new project will do).  Go to Edit>Preferenes>Media and click on the Clean button.  Close Pr, open your problem project and try to export again.

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes when browsing/importing video files.

I've got a trial version of Premiere Pro CC installed today, running on a late 2012 iMac.
No problems during splash screen or project startup, but when I try browsing for a video file in the import box or attempt to drag and drop files from my local disk, a Premiere prompt says a fatal error has occured and shuts down. I haven't experienced this problem on other PCs/Macs.
The files I've tried all run smoothly when opened by VLC or QuickTime. Extensions tried so far: .avi, .mkv, .3ggp.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB
    3,2 GHz Intel Core i5
    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
If there are codec issues, trial version limitations or these types of files are not supported I would hope PP would say so instead of crashing abruptly?
Any help appreciated, I'm not an editing guru.

Premiere does not have trial limitations.
If vlc plays the files is no garantee Premiere will.
    Premiere does not support mkv.
Premiere only supports dv-avi and 3gp.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Crashes when graphics are imported

This doesn't happen with every graphic in the known universe. I have permission to get photos from certain sites (.gov, .mil) and those pictures are crashing CS5.
I've tried importing and dragging from the media browser. The crash occurs when the playhead hits the image, or I select the image to resize etc.
As a working process, I've been opening the images and re-saving them in photoshop CS5, which appears to be working. Here's an example of an image causing these types of crashes:
I'm not getting any error message. Windows just pops up a screen saying that the program has stopped working.
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Harm,
For starters, I'm not going to take someone seriously who actually said that you can't use 16 GB of RAM with my processor. I mean, you actually said that.
And then there's this whole performance thing. Considering performance is not a quantifiable number…especially since you don't know my RAM selection, bus speed, RAM timings, voltages or motherboard model…and flat out ignore that I'm running quad channel memory in a quad channel configuration…well, you just don't make any sense. In fact, it just shows your ignorance on the whole topic.
There's no crippling…in fact the only thing that seems crippled is Adobe's software till they patch the issue. Furthermore, you're completely trolling this topic, never once having contributed to the original, or additional issues.
Now, I see that you're a regular on here (more than regular, it's actually closer to an obsession)..so I'll just assume you like having the last word. So here's some advice…if you don't know what you're talking about, don't answer. If someone's new, help them. Don't accuse them of being wrong out of the gate, and then don't steer the topic elsewhere so you can wave your e-phallus around about computer specs.
Better luck next time. Should take a page from the other commentors, they were polite and helpful. I'm done with you, as you offer nothing.
    Seriously, seek professional help.
As I've mentioned several times in this forum, Harm does more harm than good.  And hard drive speed is 95% of his advice.  Just ignore him.

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes when importing media.

Premiere Pro CC crashes when importing media. Every time. Driving me crazy.
It crashes as soon as the Windows dialogue box comes up.
Does it in new projects and in a project I created and imported into just fine 2 days ago.
    Have rebooted.
Running Windows 8.1 on Samsung Series 5 ultrabook Intel i5 - not too sure what else to say about other settings:
I did have a problem the other day when Windows was crashing when browing a large folder of largish  images and video clips but it went away when I put images and videos in separate folders.

    Thanks for reply.
Point taken but I've been using it for over a year for simple edits (5 min films) in PPCC just fine. Can't even do what I could do the other night now.
Simple folder with a few jpegs and movies in it. In fact it just crashes before I even got to another folder.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 craches exporting mpeg2-dvd

    Please help me.
I'm trying to export a movie to mpeg2-dvd and premiere pro craches after a while. Is there any way to know what is the problem, like a log file somewhere?
I believe that is something in this project because i've exported an older one and it went ok

I still have the same problem.
I will give all informations yhat you asked in your reply:
Premiere Pro CS5.5 with the 5.5.2 update
    All windows updates
    System: Windows 7 Professional x64
    Source footage: HDV clip
No error message during render. It just stops in a specific effect (crossfade). If i delete this transition i can render the entire sequence but then software crashes when exporting media (mpeg dvd) or after a very long time gives "unknown error"
Has this ever worked before? If export an old project it works normaly
What other software are you running? no other software, only cs 5.5
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed? matrox mx.paterns but not in use in this project
Tell us about your computer hardware: Asus Workstation, I7 960 12GB RAM, Nvidia Quadro 2000, Matrox Mini MXO2
Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration? Yes my gpu is supported. Already tried with software acceleration, same problem
Already copied entire work area to another sequence and doing so i loose all effects and then exports fine.
I hope I have provided enough information so that someone can help me
