Premiere pro: multiple audio tracks in a single take. (Workflow for audio mixing outside premiere)

Hi I am an editor from Finland.
I need to sync multiple audio tracks (like 2 stereo and 4 mono) to different takes before i start to edit. You see, after the editing I will create an OMF file for the sound editor who needs all the audio tracks to work with. I have noticed however by just nesting (puttin video and audio clips in a single sequence) the resulting sequence placed on in the main sequence is flattened into stereo (not multichannel). You see my problem here? I am surprised, because i have always taught that this is a very normal workflow and so far i haven't found a single tutorial or a guide for this problem.
Just to make sure we're on the same page: I know how to sync video and audio, just not so that the 6different audio tracks in all my 120 different takes that i edit into a single sequence will have the 6different audio tracks in the audio post production (which is done in protools, maybe...)
Oh yeah, Premiere Pro CS5

Hi!
This is the case when i get a master clip with all the audio tracks in it. I however got separate files, a bunch of different video files (with stereo track), for every take a boom mic audio track, and a few tracks for all the microphones on the actors. Now after i import these into premiere, how will i proceed so that after i have synced all the audioclips to all the video clips (by nesting?) I will still have all the audio clips intact in the OMF file I will create.
Last time i created omf, all the clips had turned into stereo because of nesting. Is the only way to avoid this by joining the video and audio clips into multichannel audio clips with another program before importing into premiere?
I am not very good at explaining... Problem: I get a video and 10 audio tracks. I join them by putting them into a sequence. I repeat this about a hundred times (for every take). Now i start to edit. I create the main sequence in which i clip pieces from all the hundred takes. In the main sequence the clips have only one stereo track. When the movie is finished I create an OMF for the sound guy. The sound guy asks me why are there only 2 tracks per clip? Where are all the 10 separate audio tracks?

  • Splitting multiple IDoc XML files into single IDoc messages for R/3

Hi all. I have a problem splitting IDoc XML files coming in to XI. I currently have an interface that takes in single store sale IDoc transactions (type WPUBON01) in an IDoc XML file. I then have some complex graphical mapping on the IDoc before sending to R/3 via the IDoc adapter. This works fine. However, we now wish to include multiple sales in one file i.e. many WPUBON01 IDocs. I could use message splitting to do this BUT the mapping is so complex, I do not wish to have to change it to enable the processing of many IDocs in one file instead of just one.
What I want to do: have one mapping splitting a multiple IDoc XML file into single IDoc messages and then another taking these single messages as before and performing the mapping. I cannot find a way to do this in one interface; the main problem I'm having is getting XI to split the multiple IDocs into many single IDoc messages within XI itself. I'd be very grateful for any advice on the best way to do this.
    Thankyou.

    Bhavesh,
Thanks again for a clear explanation... I'm moving forwards but still struggling. I've been on this all afternoon today (after a break on other things) and just cannot get my message to split properly (though the SOAP adapter problem I had earlier is now fixed!). If my initial IDoc XML file contains this format:
    <WPUBON01><IDOC>....</IDOC>
                          <IDOC>....</IDOC>
                          <IDOC>....</IDOC></WPUBON01>
.. I'm not sure what the cardinaility on the first message mapping and interface mapping should be. I'd have thought the source interface would be 1 and the target would be 0..unbounded but this isn't working. I'm trying different things but I get different errors each time. Currently, I have the above cardinality in my first interface and I'm passing in the following data:

  • Is it possible to use multiple macs/iphones/ipads with single apple tv for an exhibition?

    Hellow everyone,
Wondering if some genius out there can help me come up with a solution, or whether this is just too pie in the sky!!
So, I'm exhibiting at a huge conference at the end of the month and want the following set up:
MacBook Pro Retina showing a video loop through AirPlay Mirroring
MacBook Pro showing exmaples of my work in safari photoshop etc through AirPlay Mirroring
iPhone (4s with iOS7) to show examples of my work in safari through AirPlay Mirroring
iPad (iPad 2 with iOS7) to show examples of my work in safair through AirPlay Mirroring
So, basically I want the video loop to play constantly and act as a screensaver almost, then when the sitution dictates I can quickly switch what is being shown on the AppleTV to whichever device I am at.
As an example, the video loop is happily playing. Someone comes up to me and wants to talk about responsive web design. I whip out my iPad and load up an example site in safari. if I turn on my AirPlay Mirroring, great the AppleTV will update and show what is on my iPad. Great, but what about when I've finished with this person. I turn AirPlay Mirroring off on my iPad and the ApplTV goes back to the main menu because it has kicked out my MacBook Pro. Imagine this scenairo happening time and itme again.
The question is, is there anyway of making some kind of heirachy where my MacBook Pro with the video is the default source, then the Apple switches depending on what is selected, then reverts back to the MacBook Pro??
Or, is there a neat little app that I can run from another iphone (almost using is as a remote) to select which source the Apple TV shows and all the devices are constantly running AirDisplay?
Possibly asking a bit too much here, but it would be amazing if I could get some form of solution that allows me to use minimum wires and no fidly changing channels on the tv with a remote!!
    Many thanks in advance!

  • Audio mixer - suddenly volumes are not adjusted

Hi. PE4. I used the audio mixer in a few project without hassles. In this specific project, I edited the volume levels using the audio mixer successfully. Now I want to make changes to the audio volume but suddenly the audio mixer does not update the audio volume at all. What can I do to get this sorted? Thanks.

    Robert,
Bear with me on this, as I use P-Pro most of the time, so what I am about to type might not apply to PE.
On the Audio Track, one needs to set the view to display Track Keyframes. From the Audio Mixer, when hitting the Spacebar (Play) and adjusting the Pot for that Track's Audio, Keyframes are added. In Pro's Audio Mixer, these Keyframes (Track Keyframes, not Clip Keyframes) are only added, when I change the Send to Touch or Write. PE's Audio Mixer does not seem to have Sends. It also appears that the Audio Mixer needs to stay open, though you can make it small and tuck it away. My test of it indicated that when you Close it, the Keyframes disappear. (Can someone correct me here?) I would *guess* that if one did a Save, or Save_As at this point, the Audio Track Keyframes would be Saved. This last step is not necessary for me in Pro, as the Audio Mixer is always open and is just tabbed to another Panel, so it's never in my way. I will experiment with Pro and see what happens if I close the Audio Mixer. It might work the same as in PE, but I have not tried that, since I never close mine.
One additional note: in Pro, you can set the Keyframe interval for Track Keyframes. I'd guess that you can in PE too - probably from the Preferences Menu. Potting with the Audio Mixer can generate a lot of Keyframes, depending on the interval set. These can be moved around, just like Clip Keyframes, but you'll want to zoom in on that Track to see what you're doing - both horizontal and vertical zoom.
    Hunt
[Edit] In Pro, when you close the Audio Mixer, the Track Keyframes remain.

When I created a new sequence I choose "Multichannel" from the "Tracks" page. When I export the MXF OP1a, I choose 8 channels from the "Audio" page. I make sure that none of the channels are muted.
    Result:
The rendered file contains 8 channels as I want it to, but only the first two channels contains audio (main left + right), the rest of the channels are empty. Channel 1 and 2 contains the audio from all channels, but I want the channels to be seperated in the same way as they are layered in Premiere.
Any ideas what I can do?
    Thank you for your help!

    Hey Guys,
I'm having problems exporting an 8 channel audio mxf for a broadcast client. The mix they want is as follows:
Track 01: Full Programme Mix L
Track 02: Full Programme Mix R
    Track 03: International Sound L
    Track 04: International Sound R
Track 05: Music and Effects L
Track 06: Music and Effects R
    Track 07: VO Mono
    Track 08: Interview Mono
I have setup the sequence following this video on vimeo and am fairly confident I have the sequence settings correct. https://vimeo.com/38501157
I also can export a multichannel mxf. But all my tracks are exported as mono and I am therefore not maintaining my L and R as set up in my sequence
The problem is on exporting that since Tracks 01 and 02 are bounced down to 1 + 2 it means that my Track 01 (Panned L) is getting bounced down onto my Track 02 aswell and thus it does not remain seperate. Has anyone delivered a similar format for a broadcaster and come across this problem with Premiere Pro and know a solution?
Any help would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Eamonn

  • Is it possible to burn multiple uncompress tracks onto an audio cd from Logic pro?

Is it possible to burn multiple uncompress tracks onto an audio cd from Logic pro?

    Hi,
Create a play list that you wish to burn. Select playlist, the file from main menu which gives to an option to burn the playlist. A pop up box appears allowing you to select burn speed and disc format.

  • Cp4 - Multiple audio tracks on a single slide?

    Hello folks,
Never tried this before... but it doesn't look like it is possible to place multiple audio tracks on different timelines on a single slide.
I was hoping I could do that rather than editing a single track.
Will Cp5 allow multiple audio tracks on a single slide?

No.  Cp does not allow multiple audio tracks.  But it does allow you to attach audio to multiple objects, which is somewhat more flexible.
If you need multiple tracks in the audio file, you'll need to arrange that using an audio editing software application (such as Adobe Soundbooth) prior to importing the audio file into Captivate.

  • Multiple Audio tracks in Premire Pro

I have an interview that is done and now I'm trying to clean up the background noise in Soundbooth. I've done a good job cleaning it up but now how do I apply that same series of effects to multiple audio tracks in the same sequence? I'm currently just right clicking on the audio of the clip and selecting edit in Soundbooth>render and replace. But I have so many clips in my sequence it would take forever to do each one.
Is there a work around for this?
    Thanks -

This may not be the only way, or best way, but if you have a bunch of clips in a row that all need the same treatment, you could export your Work Area as a .wav file, import and drop into timeline, then do the Soundbooth business on the new clip all at once.

  • Trouble with Premiere timeline moving up and down multiple audio tracks.

I have a project that has multiple audio tracks, aver 40. Only a portion of them are visible even when I use the new side scroll, I don't know the official name but the scroll on the side that Increases or decrease the size of the track so you can see the waveform. Even when I hide the video tracks and the other preview panels I still can't see all my audio tracks. How do I scroll up and down so I can see the tracks that I want to work on. You know, like in every other program I have ever used.

I feel like there's a bit of egg on my face. Rereading your message and messing with the horizontal bar I realized for both horizontal and vertical bars I grab in the center and drag left or right, up or down. There's a short cut for scrolling up and down your timeline tracks, hold down ctrl/cmd and then use the scroll wheel on your mouse, and that's what I was doing for my project last night. Ah growing pains of learning a new workspace.

  • Premiere Pro CS2 - Audio track prevents sequence play in program monitor

My sequence consists of 1 Video Track, and 2 Audio Tracks.  The "Video 1" and "Audio 1" tracks in the sequence consists of subclips taken from a master clip avi in the Project Panel captured from my video camera, and "Audio 2" in the sequence are MP3's that have been imported into the Project Panel.  The sequence plays fine and I'm able to make edits as long as the "Audio 1" track of the captured avi is disabled, and with "Audio 2" enabled.  But when the "Audio 1" track is enabled, the sequence will not play in the program monitor, and the entire program freezes up until I disable the "Audio 1" track, or otherwise the program just crashes.
I've Googled my brains out today and yesterday, and I've reviewed all the program settings to the best of my knowledge.  I'm trying to produce a video that allows me to mix between the "Audio 1" track and the "Audio 2" track, but can't figure out why the "Audio 1" track prevents the sequence from playing in the Program Monitor.
My soundcard is Creative SB Audigy 2, on Win XP.  Can someone please help me understand what I'm overlooking?

Thanks Hunt, this was some solid information, especially the link.  I believe I've figured out the problem though... and it was ME!
I didn't want to do it, but sometimes when you have a stubborn problem, it's best to just start all over from the beginning.  It turns out that what I thought was a developing masterpiece, was in reality only a HOT MESS, lol.
The problem seemed to be in the way I created the subclips, in regards to whether the video and/or audio was selected, with respect to the in & out points, and with how those subclips were placed into the Timeline.  The problem was definitely in those subclips (...it's like the Timeline didn't know what to do with them). Once I went back, checked the source avi and master clips to verify they were intact, and being more careful in how I added the new clips into the Timeline, the audio from the imported video AND from the MP3's are now playing just fine in harmony, and I'm able to edit the sequence in the Program Monitor and with the Audio Mixer (...just as I suspected I was supposed to be able to do).
Funny how when you think there's a major problem, it just turns out that the program was only doing what you were telling it to do, lol.  Thanks so much for stepping up and helping out Hunt.  It's so frustrating sitting by the computer, hoping someone will come to the rescue.  Your response was exactly the gentle guidance I needed.  Much appreciated!

  • How to edit a multiple audio video clip on Premiere

    Hello everybody
Maybe this is a dumb question, I'm sorry if I'm asking what is obvious for you, but I swear I tried to find on the web and on this forum, but I couldn't find anything.
Well, I made a video using a screen capture software called Dxtory, that provides me the ability to record my PC screen, with multiple audio tracks.
Ok, now I have a 15gb avi file. When I open this file in the Media Player Classic, I can play one or both channels. The first channel is the original audio captured from my PC. Every audio generated by my PC is in this track. The second track is my voice, with my commentaries. I have all of this in one single file. They are not splited. It's just one file.
Then when I import into Premiere, the software just recognize the video track and the first audio track. I can't find the second, with my voice.
I know I can split the clip into 3 files (1 video and 2 audios) but it would take longer. I just want to drop the file on Premiere and edit the audio volumes quickly, because when I talk I would like to low the volume of the PC audio.
Now, the question: Is there a way to Premiere recognize both tracks in this single file? How?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm actually surprised that Pr can import this at all--the video is Xvid. Maybe it's some variant that Pr's importers can handle, as Jeff suggested. I dunno--it doesn't play well for me, regardless, and I'm not going to install the Dxtory codec to find out.
Anyway, to the matter at hand: while AVIs can, apparently, contain multiple audio tracks, Pr's importers are limited to a single track. However, Pr has other importers than can handle multiple audio tracks. QuickTime--which is a wholly different process--supports multiple audio tracks, as does MXF (some flavors). However, Xvid in QuickTime (which is feasible) won't import in Pr (at least on a PC), and Xvid won't go into an MXF file at all; that means you'd have to transcode. Personally, this would be my choice--but I found that the original clip played back pretty terribly, so that would be why I'd go that route.
Additionally, you could extract the second audio track to a separate WAV file, import both the AVI and WAV, and then use the Merge Clips feature to marry them together as one pseudo-clip. Not perfect, but it would work. The benefit is that you don't re-encode anything.
So, I've got solutions for both the re-encode/MXF option (my preference) and the AVI/WAV option. Here's proof of the MXF (transcoded video to XDCAMHD422 50Mbps) with four audio channels (stereo must be split to dual mono):
At the end of the day, these (or a variation of them) are your only options. Pr simply won't import multiple audio tracks (even dual mono) in an AVI container. Let me know if you're interested in either of the solutions.

  • Is it possible to retain multiple audio tracks when exporting?

While ripping my DVD collection, I've wanted to add a purchased RiffTrax (see www.riftrax.com) to the movie as another audio track. I've been successful, but it took the following steps:
    1. Encode the movie using Handbrake, open the resulting m4v file in Quicktime Pro
    2. Also in Quicktime Pro, open the Rifftrax aac file I created and add it as another audio track in the m4v
    3. Save the m4v as a Quicktime mov file
    4. Use Handbrake again to encode the mov file into an m4v file, including my added audio track
The reason I have to do step 4 is because if I were to export an m4v file directly from Quicktime Pro, it would compress all of the audio tracks into a single audio track. It would save a lot of time if Quicktime could export multiple audio tracks, at least when exporting to formats that can handle them. Does anyone know if this is possible?
BTW, if anyone wants more details into how I create the RiffTrax aac, just ask.
    - Jake

I've answered my own question, it was a lot easier than I thought. After the first encoding by Handbrake, there's really no difference between calling it a mov file or m4v file. I can change the file extension at will and there's no need to do an export that mashes the audio tracks. It's only AppleTV that needs to see the m4v file extension, Quicktime and iTunes doesn't seem to care one way or the other.
Thanks for letting me think out loud.

  • Export Video with Multiple Audio Tracks

I need to be able to export video with audio on multiple tracks. I have moved to CS6 from FCP 7 where this was rather easy to do. I can make a preset in AME with more than enough mono tracks but after the encode the video is always smashed to one mono track. I am not doing a 5.1 mix, there are different mic's on each track that need to remain independant of one another and mixing them down within Premiere is not feasable. Are there no options to just have the audio 'pass through' like Compressor? Sorry if there are other posts but I have been searching forever and can not find a simple answer on this topic.
Also, is there no way to have the source timecode burn in? Putting a filter on the video in a sequence is unacceptable, I am very displeased to find that this doesn's seem possible in AME or Premiere, it has been part of Apple's suite for years.
Example of my preset from Compressor:
    Name: Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy)
Description: QuickTime movie with Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy) and audio pass-through
    File Extension: mov

    Hi James,
For exporting a multitrack .wav file, you have to start a project with a multichannel audiomaster (3-16 tracks).
Copy and paste your complete edit to the new editsetting.
Now in the audiomixer you can route your audiolayers to the multichannel you like.
(CH1+2 pan to left is channel 1, pan to right is channel 2 and for a stereo track pan to center : channel 1 for left and channel 2 for right.)
Then you export your project to a 3-16 tracks multitrack .wav file.
When you need mono tracks you can import your multitrack .wav file in premiere. Then send it to Audition (edit in Audition) and then adobe will convert the file into mono tracks.
You'll find the mono tracks in your audio capture folder or can premiere search for then by 'reveal in explorer'.
The multi track .wav file has got timecode within the file.
When exporting in QT you can also choose for a multitrack audio file. It also contains your timeline timecode.
.avi or .mp4 video files cannot be exported with more than 5.1 channels of audio
MXF OP1a in XDCAMHD can also be exported with max. 16 channels of audio. It also contains your timeline timecode.
Hopefully you can get further with Premiere Pro with this info.
    Succes with it!!
    gr. Mano
