Presario C700 (C776CA) fan doesn't start

Hi
Recently, my C700 had overheating problem. Like the support told me years ago (2), I removed the battery and the power supply and pushed the power button few seconds. I also spread air in the fan like they told me.
After that, the notebook starts but the fan doesn't : the CPU overheat and the notebook shut down.
I tried waiting some time to see if it changes something : no!
Thanks for the help

Try to do a BIOS update. Go to www.hp.com , put the unit product no and do a search. Select the operating system and then download and run the latest BIOS available for your system. Make sure there is no accessories connected to the unit except the ac adapter while you are flashing the BIOS. Let the system restart and check if the fan is working or not.
If it still doesnt work, call HP technical support and get the unit servcied.
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • MSI K7T266 Pro2 cpu fan doesn't start

    Hello!
I have the mainboard MSI K7T266 Pro2, I have just upgraded my bios to version 3.7. When I start my computer, it stops and beeps to warn me that the cpu fan is'nt running, but when I open the computer to see If the cpu fan is running it does start, so why does is say that the fan doesn't star when it acctually does start?

No....!! There is nothing bad mounted.
The reason for this post of you PC, is that the cooler isn't running fast enough for the BIOS, so your BIOS just wantst to warn you. The easiest way to get rid of it, is to disable the "CPU Fan Detection" in the BIOS, or connect the fan to another plug. That's all there is to it!

  • Satellite U500-11C fan sometimes doesn't start running Win 7 64bit

    Hello,
I have two Toshiba Satellite U500-11C under Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits. Sometimes, after a new Windows start, fans don't start and just run a few seconds sometimes. When this happens, the CPU temperature gets very hot (don't know exactly how much). I've found a way to get back to a normal behavious by just unplugging the AC cable and replug it just one second or two after.
Must two laptops have the latest Bios and drivers from Toshiba. In some way, it is the same behavious as under Linux.
With those experiences, I come to think that Toshiba Laptop are not well managing correctly ACPI Fans and tempartures. Is it really a fatality ??
    Hope this feedback can help...

    Hello Tonny,
Yes, I think like you that when I have this fan issue, it means that BIOS feature doesn't work correclty on regulating temperature with variable fan speeds, and finally, it is the overheating security which makes the job. When using Linux, I've seen that ACPI temperature levels are not correctly defined or published by the BIOS : Fans are not expected to be launched before the CPU burns at more than 108C !
What surprises me is that this is a bug in the BIOS that has been living here since the first BIOS versions, and that my researches on various forums show that this Satellite U500-11C is not the only one to have fan issues from Toshiba Laptops on both Linux and Windows.
That said, I don't understand what Toshiba tries to do when making special BIOS versions, instead of using more standard ones with correct ACPI functions programmed inside. Other laptop manufacturers are more "standard" in their approach, and give users more satisfaction on everyday use.
In the same idea, I've finally removed most of Toshiba applications on one of my two Satellite U500-11C and it runs much better : lower power consumption, less heating, more responsiveness, ...
    Hope this helps...

  • MDD 1.25 GHz DP doesn't start - No Powerbutton lit - Fan spins loudly

    Hi,
I have an 1.25 GHz DP MDD which doesn't start. When I release the power button, the light goes off again but the machine stays on. After half a minute or so the fan starts spinning loudly.
Anyone any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks in advance

    daakaa6 wrote:
Actually, I'm new to the Apple forums, but saw an entry about "fans spinning loudly" and had a simple MDD question for the experts. Where is the best place to find quiet fans for my MDD dual 867? Most of the ones I find in the right size are three and four pin on the smaller (60mm) fan, and I don't know enough about the specs to know if there is an adapter, cut and splice, or what? I'm sure this is a no-brainer for somebody out there. Any help would be appreciated.
Actually, you probably would have wanted to posted this as a new thread, since it's a slightly different topic. But anyway...
Which fans? 120mm case fan, 60mm PSU fans, 80mm optical fan? All the above? If you have the "Delta kit", i.e. Delta fans everywhere, I can understand why.
If you replace any of them, you do want to make sure you get fans with similar specs. This blog entry has a really long list of comments. But there are jewels in there. Any fan you replace you'll want to get them with similar specifications, or at least have someone else give you details.
From that blog and similar post on xlr8yourmac, it looks like there are some Thermaltakes that are nice PSU replacements -- there are some links to online stores. There's a SilentX 120mm case fan mentioned that a lot of people have used.
Again, it's long as you go through the comments, but there are some links in there.

  • My Compaq Presario C700 shuts down at randomly and there is no noise coming from the machine at all

My laptop will only turn on for about ten minutes before dying, it doesn't even go through the usual shut down process, it just turns off. Also, there is no sound of a fan or any humming coming from the computer. Before this problem of the random shutting down started, there was always a humming sound coming out. This happened to the computer about a year ago, and I gave it into PC World (Ireland) and they wiped the system and it worked again. So, the minute I saw the same thing happening I backed everything up and wiped it myself, I set up my user in vista again, but the computer was the same and was turning off randomly.
Does anyone know how this can be fixed?? Thanks for your help.
PS: It's A HP Compaq Presario C700 Series Notebook running Windows Vista Home Premium.

There may be a real hardware issue (like spanning above mentioned.) When I lose sound on my phone, here are the things I try, in no particular order:
If you use Apple TV, open a movie file (you tube, music video, anything you can play over Apple TV.) Switch to Apple TV playout and then switch back to your phone. If you left the phone going out to Apple TV, it may have kept the sound routing there -- switching back and forth again should reset it back to playing to your iPhone speakers.
If you use headphones, stick the headphones in and out again. Same kind of idea, the headphone detection may have been incorrect, and the toggle in & out will help it reset back to your speakers.
If you play games, go into a game with sound and adjust the volume there. There are actually three different volume settings (as far as I have experimented with) ringer, "normal" volume, and game volume... it's a little buggy figuring out which one your phone should be using

  • My MacBook Pro 15,4" doesn't start at all!

    Hi everyone!
Today morning, normal day, after having my MacBook Pro charging all night (as always), I took it (without any cables) in the kitchen, in order to, very surprising, turn it on!
But nothing happens!! Checking battery status: ok (new), removing it and trying without, still nothing. I tried all reset techniques, as well as Ctrl + Cmd + Start button. But still nothing.
    What is happening?
When I press the button, I hear the DVD player making his little "clac-clac", the fan is starting, and the light as well, but as soon as I take my finger off the start button, it stops again! If I keep my finger longer on the button, it stops as well after a while (normal forced stop), but the "gong" never sound.
Can anyone help me with this? Where does it come from? I'm a computer technician, and fixed a lot of laptops, but when it comes to Apple, I panic, and I don't know what to do anymore! I'm always a bit scared to open it myself...
Maybe I should add that it's making some noise on the right fan since 2 months (as if a plastic piece was blocked inside), some kind of "clac, clac, clac", and it was getting really warm sometimes. The DVD-player is also a bit "curved", and it's problematic to extract the discs sometimes.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Cheers,
    Ron.

    Hi everyone!
    Thanks for the answers.
@Advanced User: I haven't tried that yet, but I will tonight. And I found a Store in my town, in case I cant solve it myself.
@eww: I always buy original parts, even more by Apple. Of yourse I tried without the battery. All the basic tests were done. I also opened the machine and test electrically if anything was interupted. But I couldn't find anything. I must say my son (2 years old) found it very funny last week-end to play piano (pretty strongly) on the keyboard of the MB... But I don't think he broke something, otherwise I'd be really disappointed in a 2000€ notebook...
The exact model of the MacBook is MB133D/A, and I cant access any System Profiler, because the MacBook.... doesn't start! The battery was still holding 3 hours.

  • Satellite M30-604 freezes and fan doesn't work after replacement

Satellite SM30-604. Laptop left on carpet overnight and overheated! Fan doesn't spin and laptop only occasionally starts up. Thinking the fan was fault I replaced the fan but even this new fan doesn't spin. The heatsink is totally clean - no dust inside the vanes at all. The laptop is only 2 years old.
Using forced-cooling (by sticking a vacuum nozzle at the cooling fan outlet!) the laptop occasionally starts up like normal right up to the Desktop screen with all usual icons and no error messages. But then it goes no further - the screen, keyboard and mouse freeze.
Most of the time it doesn't start up at all. When it doesn't start, the blue LED comes on but there's no hard-disk activity or LCD screen at all - even the wifi LED doesn't even come on.
Really grateful if anyone know's what's going on. Not sure if it's the main CPU that's faulty?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Charlie
Like you know on this way it is not easy to give any precise diagnostic but according to your posting I presume that there is some complex problem and unit should be checked properly. I also think that there must be some problem with electronic.
It is really possible that mainboard must be replaced but, as I already said, it is no possible to say anything precise about your problem. Try to contact Asp and you will see what they will say.

  • W701ds doesn't start

    A tricky case:
I've just replaced the main screen from the W701ds, and when I try to start the laptop, it doesn't start.
Just the led power light for two seconds but it doesn't go into the BIOS and dies. The screen always in black.
If I try to restart the laptop with the I/O button, it doesn't work at all (dead), not even the power lights.
To try to "enable", I have to remove the battery and unplug the cord from the AC power. Then,  the cycle repeats... the led power light for two seconds but it doesn't go into the BIOS and dies.
    Anyone with a similar problem?
    Thank you

Sorry to hear about all the problems you're having with that laptop, fjdiazal. The current problem sounds like the power supply is being overloaded, or the power supply or cable is bad, or you have a static electricity problem, or perhaps CMOS is scrambled. Make sure that all peripherals are disconnected from the laptop. I don't know whether there are any fuses in the machine that would apply to this problem.
So it could be a number of things, but here's something that's simple to try:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Laptop-won-t-boot-and-can-t-even-get-into-BIOS...
If the battery is in good condition and fully charged, and the machine still won't boot when connected to battery only, then that rules out the power supply.
    If you search for:
      laptop won't start
within the forum, you'll find a number of other suggestions to try, plus other users will probably chime in with their own suggestions. We have a lot of users here who are very good at diagnosing these types of problems. This is about the time when lead_org shows up in the forum from Australia, so he might have some suggestions.
Another thing to try is to reinstall the old display. You might also look for damage to the display cable or connector. Hopefully, you're using proper anti-static procedures when changing displays. Also, if you've worked on the fans in any way, make sure that their cables are still connected, otherwise the fans won't spin up and many laptops will do exactly what you're describing.
    Anyway, best of luck.
P.S. - Once you press the laptop's power button to turn it on, within two seconds, BOTH fans should turn on at least briefly. At least, that is what happens with my W700, which is very similar to your W701ds. This can be hard to detect, so I tore off two 6-inch-long half-inch-wide pieces of Kleenex tissue, and draped a piece over the edge of the laptop and in front of each exhaust vent, and you can see the tissue being blown by the fan being turned on:
If EITHER fan does NOT turn on, then the machine will exhibit the exact behavior that you're describing.
So, a fan that HAS FAILED can cause exactly what you're seeing.
And a fan that is in the PROCESS OF FAILING can cause exactly the crashing behavior you described earlier.
So it's possible that a dying fan could cause BOTH of the problems that you have observed. Note that the LEFT fan is the CPU fan, and the RIGHT fan is the GPU fan.

  • Fan doesn't stop

    Hi,
My iMac FAN doesn't stop. I have reset the SMC as recommended but nothing happens.
Does a new power supply cable can solve this? Does anyone have solve this that seems to be enough common?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Run Apple Hardware Test > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 Then, choose your language, mark the option to use the extended mode and start the test. If at the end you see an error, copy it here. You have a hardware problem.
Normally, when fans don't stop working and the SMC reset doesn't solve it, there are two reasons: a damaged sensor or a process that is consuming the RAM and CPU

  • My pavilion dv7 doesn't start up

My pavilion dv7 Notebook PC doesn't start up. I removed battery and power and I reset hard. I started it up. Thats happened many times. Each time i shut it off I need to reset hard to start it up again. What is the problem and what is the solution for it?
Is out of warranty. Is there any HP repair center I can apply for repair?
    Product Number: XE274EA#ABU

    Hello @danaos947 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having issues starting up your dv7 notebook and have to do a hard reset to boot each time.
If you're only looking for service you can contact the HP Phone Support line. You can schedule a repair over the phone. You can contact HP Technical Support at 1-800-474-6836 in North America. For all other regions click here.
Can you tell me if you have the same issue when only using the AC adapter and no battery?
I would also suggest a startup repair. You can do this in the HP Recovery Manager by tapping F11 while the notebook boots up.
You can also try a system restore to before the issue started while in the Recovery manager if the repair does not work.
When the notebook doesn't boot are there any LED lights or sounds (Fan, HDD, etc...)? If not, it's power related and could be the battery motherboard or adapter depending on the source you're using. If there are sounds and appears to boot it might be the GPU or display. Try an external monitor in this case to rule out the display.
Here are some other documents you can go through:
Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps.
Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot.
Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7, Vista) or Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8).

  • Satellite M35X-S349 doesn't start up

My laptop satellite M35X doesn't start up. I press the power button. Then the hard disk green light binks once. The fan or hard disk makes a sound for a couple second. Nothing is displayed in the screen.
Nothing happens after that. I've tried to boot from a CD, but the hot keys doesn't work (press power button, then "C").

    Hi Sergio,
From your description of the problem I would suggest that you have a hardware problem on your notebook. The initial POST is failing when it checks your peripheral devices and this is preventing the BIOS from loading correctly. I would suggest you try to remove/reinstall the RAM modules, the Hdd and The Optical Drive. If the fault still persists then you will need to refer to a Toshiba authorised Service Partner for further diagnostics.
