Prevent Apple Remote from waking MacBook Pro

The Apple Remote that comes with the new MacBook Pro can be used to put the machine to sleep. It can also be used to wake it from sleep, by pushing any button on the remote.
Is there a way to prevent the Apple Remote from being able to wake the machine, other than removing its battery or using the Security settings to turn the IR port off? Both seem a little drastic, as I do want to be able to use the remote once the machine is on; I just don't want the remote waking it accidentally, especially when I'm travelling.

thanks, I had no idea that was possible.
As for your problem, I don't know, but surely if your MBP is in a bag, and the remote is not in line-of sight, it would not accidentally wake it anyway??
Also I'm pretty sure the MBP will not wake up if the lid is closed.

  • HT1619 How do I disconnect an Apple remote from my MacBook Pro w/ Mountain Lion update?

My friend set up Apple TV while I was using my laptop in the same room and the remote is now connected to my laptop. I've looked at a bunch of different sites and forums trying to figure out how to disconnect it and it seems that with the new Mountain Lion operating system, there is no way to do this. PLEASE HELP it's driving me crazy because everytime he presses a buttom on the remote, it interferes with what I'm doing.

Sorry, but my late 2009 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion continues to be be controlled by the ATV2 remote after disabling remotes in system preferences. Anyone else having the issue or has a solution?
    Cheers!

    Hi,
System Preferences > Accounts > Your Account
Select current  Pic and chose to Change it.
You get an option to take a SnapShot.
Quicktime will also be able to access it and record using Quicktime  X in Snow Leopard.
Check the Menu items for New Recording.
MSN for Mac can use it (It depend on version and in some cases whether you are connected to the correct type of Windows server)
Yahoo (This is in Beta 3 and has been for years)
    Results can vary.
A Web Browser with the Flash Plug-in active can access the camera on certain Web Sites that run video Chat rooms
    See Koowy
(Type anything to Create a Room Name
On the New Page allow access to the camera in the Flash Pop Up - You may need to use the tabs to Select Camera type.
Send Buddy the URL of that page).

When I unplug Apple headphones from my MacBook Pro sond from internal speakers not work, and system soud preferences displayed: Output: optical digital out port only

If you see a red light in the audio output port, then the internal switch is stuck.  Insert the earphone plug a few times and see if you can trip the switch.  If that fails, insert a cocktail stirrer and the like and jiggle it around inside.  If that fails, take it to an Apple store and have the technicians at the genius bar do it for you.
    Ciao.

  • I can't send emails remotely from my MacBook Pro - only from home.

I can't send emails from my MacBook Pro from anywhere but home. Suggestions??
    Thanks!
    KL

Typically that happens when your mail service provider is also your ISP, and you connect to it from another network. The SMTP server will allow connections without a password from anywhere, but it will only relay mail from within the ISP's network.
If you need to send mail from outside your ISP's network, use an independent mail service provider. I don't have a specific recommendation.

Take a look at this link from Apple which tells you all you should do before selling or giving away a Mac. You should be able to find what you're looking for.

  • Running two Apple displays from one Macbook Pro?

I have two Apple displays with mini-display ports.  I have ONE Macbook Pro with ONE mini-display port.  Problem.
I purchased this USB 2.0 to DVI Display Adapter from Monoprice but still can't figure out how to get my mini-display ports to work with this.
Is this even the right product?

You can use another DVI, VGA, or even HDMI display for far cheaper with this adapter, US$60 plus shipping:

Warning: Results may be unacceptably laggy.
But a converter to Mini DisplayPort is quite expensive, US$150 plus shipping:

  • Connecting remotely from my MacBook Pro laptop to my imac desktop

Hi, I have an imac desktop computer with Leopard and a new MacBook Pro laptop with Lion.  I'm looking for a quick, easy and inexpensive way to remote from my laptop into my desktop.
I would like full access to the computer.  My internet provider is Verizon fios.
    thanks in advance, mnm

If all you want to do is remotely control your computer, only at home, you can do that with no additional software.
If you want to remote control your computer from any internet connection. Then you might want to consider LogMeIn or Slim. Both of these programs combine Dynamic DNS & Remote Access. Meaning you don't need to  configuring your firewall, or setup additional software.  Both tend to work in places that try to  block Remote Computer Access. (schools, companies, government)

  • Airplay mirroring keeps cutting out when watching apple tv from a macbook pro

Recently I have had difficulties watching any itunes movies or downloaded shows on my tv using apple tv. While watching the movie or show on my tv,  airplay mirroring will shut off without warning and the movie continues playing on my macbook but in order to start watching on my tv again, I have to reconnect to airplay mirroring (which sometimes works only to shut off again several minutes later, or I get an error for airplay). I have an OS X version 10.8.5. and my apple tv devise is less than a year old. I never had this problem before with my apple tv. Any ideas about what might be wrong, or what I can do to fix this?

Try changing your energy saver settings.   Make sure the macbook is plugged in and change both display and computer sleep to never.  When your display goes to sleep airplay will shut off.  I don't watch a lot of tv on airplay from my mac, but this works for when I'm streaming radio or music.  I suggest getting a cheap iPod touch (with airplay) on craigslist if you don't have an iPhone.  I've seen them as low as $30.  Then get the Air Video app ($3) and the Remote app (free).  These two apps take care of all of my tv/movie watching needs.
If your appleTV is too far from your wireless router then you will have trouble using any of these features.  Try purchasing an extra long (100') cat5 cable from monoprice.com and moving your router to a more central area of your house.  You can even put a second router in your home using this cat5 and get great internet connection everywhere!

  • Turn off apple remote control from my macbook pro

How can I turn off my remote control from remoting both apple tv and myc macbook pro at same time. I just want to remote my apple tv.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you want, you can disable the IR port in order to be able to stop control your computer with the Apple Remote. To do it, open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General > Advanced, and mark "Disable remote control infrared receiver"

  • Is it possible to remote-access my MacBook Pro away from home?

Is it possible to remote-access my MacBook Pro away from home?
    What I currently have:
    Late-2011 MacBook Pro 8,2 (OSX Mavericks 10.9.5)
    2.5ghz Intel i7 quad-core
    16gb RAM, 1024gb SSD raid-0 (internal)
    Connecting to the internet through:
Apple Time Capsule 2TB (via ethernet)
    +
Time Warner Cable "Ultimate 100" (top speed)
I would basically like to be able to have my MacBook Pro on *at home* and connected to the internet via ethernet to the Apple Time Capsule.. and then be able to somehow connect and log in to my MacBook Pro, either through another computer or preferably, my iPhone 5s..
Mostly just interested in having accessibility to be able to make downloads, such as magnet links, while away from the computer.. and basically be able to come home to mostly finished or complete downloads.. Basically like how you can DVR/TiVo things from your iPhone and have it sync with your DVR/TiVo while away from home..
    Is this possible? Thank you!!

    Yes you can do this.
I would suggest you start with TeamViewer.com (free for personal use).
You will need to install TeamViewer on your Mac AND your iPhone.
The Mac version will need to be configured for unattended remote access.  You should practice before you leave the home.
There are other iPhone apps that can remotely access a Mac.  A lot depends on whether they can get past the home NAT router.  Be careful of apps that provide VNC access, but do not provide a way to get past the home router.  If you try one of these, make sure you test it away from your home WiFi network.

I am trying to watch movies from my macbook pro (2010) on my new vizio tv.  I connected the minidisplayport to HDMI cable (bought from the apple store) and switched the input to the right input but nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

  • Why is music streamed from my MacBook Pro to Apple TV via AirPlay choppy?

I'm trying to stream music from iTunes on my MacBook Pro to my new Apple TV via AirPlay, but the music is extremely choppy, cutting in and out. It's completely unlistenable. However, I can use AirPlay to stream from my Macbook Pro to my Pioneer VSX 1021 AirPlay enabled receiver with no issues. Additionally, I can stream from my iPhone or iPad to the Apple TV without these issues. Therefore it would appear wifi bandwidth is not the root cause. I'm stumped. Help!

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.
