Preview - A new window every time?

Is there a way to set the preview up so that it will reuse the browser window/page when doing a preview?
When I work on a page I like to preview often. Especially since most of my coding is for PHP page/apps. The problem is that every time I use the Dreamweaver preview it opens a new browser window. This is a real pain. It would be more useful for Dreamweaver to use the reuse the page and browser window instead of adding to the clutter by opening another browser window to an already crowded desktop.
I know that this may not be feasible for some developers, so I would suggest a switch in the preview preferences where we can turn on / off the ability to reuse a preview page.
Yes, I know I could simply press refresh on the browser, but I'm thinking of a more efficient way of working. I open my previews using a keyboard shortcut in Dreamweaver. This is a lot better than leaving Dreamweaver, selecting a browser window and clicking on refresh. I like things to be as few clicks/presses as possible.
It would even be nice to tell the preview to use the same browser, but just add a tab instead of opening another window.
If there is already a way do any of this, please let me know.
PS: I'm using a Mac with CS4

I agree it can be a pain having a new window open every time you hit Alt>F12, especially if you don't close the previous browser window and then have to decide which was the latest edit. I do that to myself once in a while.
Having said that, I don't know of any way other than "F5" to do this without opening a new window in the browser. Even in Firefox with it set to open new pages in tabs, it opens a new window instead. I believe this is because the preview function works a lot like double clicking an HTML file from a folder. The OS selects the designated default browser, and opens a new window for the file. The Dreamweaver command does the same thing. I can live with it though.

It never ceases to amaze me anymore these days how many people don't have a single second to spare in their entire day for an additional click or keystroke. It scares me to think what classic art would be if Michelangelo or DaVinci decided that their works should be done in fifteen minutes or they weren't worth the effort, or if the Wright brothers had only spent a single afternoon on the airplane and then gave up because it was taking too long. You're designing a website. It's a creation from your mind. In some ways that is the same as invention or art. If that's too much work, perhaps you should just hire someone to do it for you.

Every time I try to open a new tab in my browser - either by using the keyword shortcut or the option under the file menu it just opens a new window.
This must be a bug in the new Firefox as I just upgraded and it is a new issue.
    Very annoying!
Does anyone have a work around until Firefox sort this out?
    Thanks

  • Firefox opens a new window every time I click a link. I reset FF and it did not fix the problem.

When I click on any link, the browser opens a new window. I have searched the browser options to fix this and have not found a place to select a different option. I have reset Firefox and checked all of my plugins and have not found anything that seem to be related to my problem. Sometimes, Firefox will work normally for the first few minutes of use and then start opening a window for everything.
By normally, I mean that I click a link and it opens the link in the same tab that I'm browsing. Some links will open in a new tab, depending on the type of link. Mostly, they open in new windows no matter what.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • Why do I have to allow a new window every time to open from within another window, Ie, from an email?

When I try to go to a web site from another web site or from an email from a link, I am required to click on the "ALLOW" button every time. It seems like if I have already clicked on it that I have allowed it. It is very frustrating. If it can't be fixed, I will either go back to an older version of firefox or choose another browser

  • Why does FF open a new window every time I try to open a new tab?

I have tried to change this in preferences but it won't work.

Just to confirm, have you made sure that "Open new windows in a new tab instead" located in Firefox>Options>Tabs has a checkmark beside it? If it does, I would try running Firefox in Safe Mode to see if an Add-on is potentially causing this problem.
To run Firefox in Safe Mode:

  • How can I fix an error where Firefox temporarily opens a blank new window every time I try to post a text reply on any YouTube video?

I'm not sure when it first started occurring, however, I recently noticed that ANY time I have tried lately to post a text reply to ANY video on YouTube, Firefox will open an "about:blank" screen for about 1-2 seconds, and close it. I will not get to make my reply and everything seemingly goes back to normal.
If I open the same video URL in I.E. 11.0, I have no difficulty whatsoever posting text replies to ANY videos, so something is going on with Firefox.
The thought had crossed my mind to uninstall/reinstall Firefox, and I know there's no harm in doing so, but I figured I'd come here first, in case someone who knows Firefox better than I, has an even simpler solution, or in case the uninstall/reinstall idea wouldn't have worked anyway. Please let me know what y'all think about this.

    Hello,
Please try using our Reset feature.
The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
'''''Note:''' When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences.'' See the [[Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings]] article for more information.
    To Refresh Firefox:
    # Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
#*Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#*If you're unable to access the Help menu, type '''about:support''' in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
#Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
#Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Why won't firefox open a hot link in a new tab? I have selected the setting that is supposed to do this, but Firefox insists upon opening a new window, every time! It's annoying as hell.

OK...ummmm, I'm running Mac OS10.4.11 (not so sure about the last two digits, but you get the idea). I installed the latest Firefox update maybe a week ago... my monitor crapped out yesterday, so I replaced it with a bigger one that I had lying around. I have used this monitor with this machine before, and had no problems with getting Firefox to open links that I clicked on in a new tab. As per your Help site, I checked the monitor's 'size' and it was as always. I even reduced the 'size' of the monitor, but no joy.
    What gives, oh Mighty One?

  • Why is Finder opening new windows every time I drag a photo onto the desktop?

I've been having a couple of issues with my desktop (I am running 10.7.5):
    1. When I save a photo by dragging it onto my desktop, it opens a new Finder window. It's only started doing this today, and I haven't changed any of my Preferences. How can I turn this function off?
    2. I used to be able to drag a photo from my web browser to my desktop to save it. When it saved, it would stay where it was dragged. However, about a month ago, the files began snapping into rows rather than where I dragged them as well as piling up in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. How can I fix this so that they stay whereever I drag them when saving?
    Thanks!

    It's a bug in Chrome.

  • How do I stop finder from opening a new window every time I download an image (drag and drop)?

Before I updated my computer I could drag and drop a new image from the internet to wherever I wanted on the desktop. Now when I download a new image from the internet it opens the "Desktop" finder windo. Also it systematically downloads the new image to be placed underneath the last downloaded/organized file. How do I stop it from doing both of these things?

Try relaunching the Finder > Relaunch Finder… from the Mac OS X Finder

Firefox is coded to open new tabs in a blank page. That may change in Firefox 4. I don't know.
In the meantime, there is an add-on called Tab Mix Plus that I think provides that option. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122/

I use an iPhone 5, and want to sync my phone calendar and contacts with Outlook 7 calendar and contacts; two problems--I now get dozens of new calendars every time, and my outlook calendar will not sync at all.; meaning that date entries on Outlook do not come across ot iPhone.

It is unusual for the calendar to sync and not the contacts in Outlook. I've worked with Outlook for years. You didn't answer what computer OS you are using. If it is Windows, have you tried to reset the sync history in iTunes? Do that by opening iTunes, go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and click on reset sync history. If you have done this and it doesn't help, then we can try and run scanpst.exe on your Outlook file and see if there are any errors. Search your computer for that file, however it normally resides in one of the Microsoft Office folders in the folder Program files. After that, you can see if it will sync.
