Preview image does not match content image

I have been using Bridge CS3 on MAC OS X 10.4 for about 2 years and have happily used it as part of my image processing work flow for thousands of images. A Canon 1DS is my main camera. Some time ago I have started using a Canon G9 in addition to the 1DS. So far so good.
Recently and for no reason I can see, Bridge has started displaying an entirely different image in the preview panel than the image selected in the content panel. This only seems to happen when selecting RAW G9 images in the content panel; the image shown in the preview panel will be a processed PSD file originally taken on the 1DS, or a 1DS RAW image (of an entirely different subject and processed months earlier). Needless to say, the file name format of RAW G9 images and processed / RAW 1DS images is entirely different. What ever Bridge is using to marry content image selected with preview image displayed, its getting it wrong. I should add that that this doesn't always happen all of the time - but it does happen about 25% of the time.
When I open in ACR I get the correct image. Also Bridge meta data refers to the correct image. It is just preview that is incorrect.
I have compacted and refreshed the cache. This resolves the issue the first time I go back in and select images from the content panel, but if I reselect, I'm back where I started.
Has anyone ever experienced this?
(in preferences against "When Creating Thumbnails Generate:" I have "Convert To High Quality When Previewed". Also I have both "Use Software Rendering" and "Use High-quality Previews" checked. I'm using Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9)
Many thanks, Tom

I had this with my Canon30D files as well. Spurious previews. I met with Adobe in person and went over this. I then moved to Bridge 3.x and went over why I needed high quality images and the person I was working with took many copies of my images to work on the high quality previews.
I found when I went to one of the 3.x versions of Bridge, this was corrected and I got to use High Quality without the spurious previews.
I did not have to give up my High Quality. At least not in my case.
I will note that I was on the prerelease member site and so did get Bridge 3.x versions that may not have made it to the public, hard to know as I have since moved on to CS4.
I remember a time when I could not use the global purge command and had to throw away all cache folders but this is no longer the case.
I think Adobe did all they could to fix this issue and still feel that it was incredible that they met with me several times and did conference calls with 6-7 engineers in the room with me and how they really seemed to want to know what was up.
So I, for one, cannot say there will remain a black eye. Adobe was very supportive with me.
b One thing though, I could not use "software render" ever with any success.

  • Print Res Unchecked, Image does not match native resoltuion

Many of my images already have their resolution and height/width dimensions set in PS. My understanding is that when the print resolution checkbox is unchecked in LR, then the image should be at its native resolution and size and will print the same size as when printed from PS.
However, I find that when I uncheck the resolution checkbox, the image size as shown in LR Print module does not match the native resolution and size. For example a psd file in PS CS3 shows an image size of 16 x 10.25 @ 200 ppi. In LR the same image shows a print size of 15.3 x 9.81 @ 209 ppi. I have checked both tif and psd files, and similar discrepancies exist.
I wonder if I am doing something wrong or misunderstanding something? Thanks for your help

That was Page Setup, sorry (which actually opens a Print Setup dialogue, at least on a PC). There you can choose printer and paper size. Then in Layout panel you choose how to arrange the picture(s) within the page, and the combination of the two will determine the print size, right?
Anyway, I believe I understand your concern now, which is about printing at 100% of the size indicated by the TIFF or PSD file, as PS can do. I did not find a way to direct LR to do the same.
The Print Resolution, when unchecked, doesn't behave like you expect. If you check it, LR will re-sample the image to print it at the resolution you indicated there, whatever the output size. If you un-check it, LR will not re-sample the image; still it will re-size it based on your Page Setup and Layour settings, and the printer driver/printer will do the needed re-sampling. At least this is my understanding.

iBookstore Publisher Support send me a fast response email which included some helpful info:
Please make sure that all image files inside the ePub end with one of the following: ".tif", ".jpg", or ".png" and that the file itself matches the file extension type. To check if the image file matches the file extension type, please right click on the image then select "Get Info". Once the info tab appears, please make sure that the file extension type of the image file matches the "Kind" found under "General".
For further information regarding embedded images, please refer to the iBookstore Asset Guide, which is available for download in the Deliver Your Content module in iTunes Connect.
And they INCLUDED THE TRANSPORTER LOG (!), the log generated by iTunes Producer as it tries to upload a book. We were able to search for the Validation Error # within the log and find out which image Producer was trying to upload when it encountered an error. Turns out the problem was a corrupted screenshot jpeg.

  • Preview application does not print images correctly sized

The Preview application does not show me what size the image will print out.
It defaults to Scale to Fit: Print entire image.
The % in the Scale: window seems to be what the % turns out to be, depending on which Scale to Fit: is selected.
If I click into Scale:, and then change the %, when I hit Return, it prints immediately without allowing me to preview what size the change actually looks like.  Need to change that behavior!!!  Can't see how to do it.
Probably want the default setting to be Scale: 100% but can't figure out how to do that.
ALSO the Preferences / Images setting has two choices.
But playing with the Define 100% scale as just changes the size of the image in the Preview viewing window.  The PRINT menu still has the same default and the same Scale: % size.  No matter which I select, the PRINT default is still the same %.

Preview.app in Snow Leopard has removed the option to print without scaling, and recreating this behaviour with the remaining options is quite complex and requires 4 extra steps. Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Open a document in Preview.app, such as a PDF, of a known paper size.
    2. Select 'File' > 'Print…'
    3. Change the paper size to one where the default scale value with the default 'Scale to Fit:' 'Print Entire Image' is not 100%. This step is often unnecessary, as many documents will require reduction to include margins, even if the paper sizes match.
    4. Select 'Scale:'
    5. Select the scale % value.
    6. Delete the scale value.
    7. Input '100' in the scale value box using the keyboard.
    8. Press tab to avoid radar #7256827.
    9. Click 'Print' Expected Results:
Click on a single option to print at 100%, if by chance that wasn't the default option. This would have been one step. Actual Results:
Does what it says. Steps 4 through 8 are necessary to print at 100% in most cases. Regression:
This behaviour was as expected in OS X 10.5.x and previous versions, or we wouldn't be having this discussion. Notes:
Printing at 100% is the only scaling that is common enough to warrant a button to make it an easy one to get to. Preview.app itself even has an 'Actual Size' toolbar button, but has removed this function for printing.
Graphic designers (and other professionals) or specific applications (such as printing on pre-cut or pre-printed paper, labels, or DVDs) can commonly require printing at 100%, and using PDF to distribute documents makes Preview.app the most logical choice for many printing jobs.
Having something other than 100% as a default can cause expensive media to be ruined by a mis-scaled printout, unless these 4 (+1) steps are followed every time.
Most other apps, including Safari, Mail.app and TextEdit default to no scaling, making Preview.app an exception. I am an architect and this is really annoying!
    Does anyone know a workaround?

  • LR 4 - image does not appear in Preview and will not print`

The selected image appears on the main/center panel but not in the preview screen.  Printing results in a white sheet of paper with no image at all.  The image has been updated to LR 4 - but made no difference.  I've served help and the forums (where i saw mention of similar problems, but no comments or guidance on the problem).  What am I doing wrong?

The problem began with the installation of LR4. I print directly from LR4 to my HPZ3100. I routinely select "print preview" in the print dialogue box. Now the first print I see the preview and then it prints. If I select a second print job and use the "print preview" the print preview screen comes up blank and never loads. If I try to delete the print job, it just never responds (resolves) so I have to turn off the computer and the printer and restart to clear the print job. if I don't use the print preview, it prints just fine (except that I'm not able to check what's about to be printed). Thanks for any thoughts you have on this.

Bill, if this is only happening some of the time, then we are probably looking at a resource issue. Any pattern in when things won't print? e.g. Certain file type won't but others will? Or is it more of a timing/order thing? e.g. First file prints fine, second does not? VStromee, do no files print for you? Or is it like Bill and sometimes the print and other times they do not? Did you install any new software recently or have any updates to the OS or any application that has printing capabilities?

  • Windows 8 error "product key does not match any of the Windows images available for installation"

    Hi Experts
My HP Pavilion laptop came with window 8. I made the USB recovery for windows 8 using hp recovery manager. My windows was corrupted, while I was trying to install windows 7 in dual boot.
I used above USB recovery to restore factory default. But every time it is giving me error "HP Recovery Manager Failed error code = 0xefffff08"
Then I downloaded the OEM ISO mage for windows 8 and tried to do the clean install but now installation process is giving me error "The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key"
Please help me. To whom I have to contact?

    Hi ghost-rider,
Thank you for your query, I will do my best to assist you.
I understand you tried to do a recovery and you received this error  "oxefffff08".
First I would suggest you run a hardware diagnostics. Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8)
If no hardware failures are located, you have ruled that possibility out.
Here is a link to Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 8) that may help.
If you are still having an issue doing a recovery, I suggest contacting HP support and explain the issue you are having with doing a recovery. They may have another option available for you.

The clean install from an OEM image is looking for the product code as it does not match the one that came with the computer, You would need a new code.
    I hope this has helped.

  • The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.

how do you manage to install windows 7 when the message on the screen is "The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key. "

That's a really helpful answer and not smug at all, thanks Carey.
I just downloaded a DVD image from my university's MSDN Academic Alliance program, named "Microsoft
Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 Debug/Checked Build 64-bit (English)", which I wanted to use to install over an existing 32-bit version. I thought the install screen was giving this weird unskippable error described in the OP before I even entered
a key because the 32-bit key I had used on the HDD was somehow interpreted to be used in an upgrade, but no. Even after I wiped the hard drive, this error persisted.
Guess I'll go Google some more on how to install my legit copy of Windows, because this self-serving shit sure isn't helping.

  • Color does not match printing in preview

Printing a photo directly from iPhoto ('08) does not match the color on screen. Using an Epson 2200.
The colors are dark and saturated. Maybe the problem is setting color management in the advanced dialog box- I have it set to: "No Color Adjustment" as per Epson.
Is there a setting that is recommended? I can't find any help in help.
I'm well aware of color management problems printing via Photoshop with the Epson printer.

    Hi McJPP,
You're using one of the built in color setups for Photoshop, so no big deal there. Since you have your monitor properly calibrated and profiled, ColorSync shouldn't be having an issue handling the difference between the image's color space and your monitor's. Questions though. Is the image RGB? Does it have an embedded profile? If so, is it Adobe RGB 1998? I'm assuming that it does since that's your working RGB color space in Photoshop.
The grab on the left is the preview copy using:
By preview, do you mean the Preview button on the print dialogue box at the bottom left next the the PDF button? I'm guessing yes since I can produce the same kind of result. It's a bit hard to explain, but I'll try.
I took a simple grayscale image and made it RGB. I then did the same thing you did. Left image is Photoshop handling color for an Epson Stylus Pro 4000, using a profile I made for a DuPont paper. Then clicking the Preview button when the print dialogue comes up. Right image is letting the printer handle color and clicking Preview. The result is below.
Believe it or not, there's nothing wrong. Photoshop (more accurately, ColorSync) is showing you what it had to do to the pixel color values to adjust for how the inks perform on the chosen paper. The end result, with proper profiles, is that the printed image looks like what you see in Photoshop regardless of how it shows in Preview mode. The Epson driver doesn't make this visible cue even though you've turned ColorSync on there, so it simply shows you the same thing you see in Photoshop, even though it's making the same adjustment to the pixel color values.
You should get essentially the same final output no matter which way you print the image.

  • Image does not display on MacBook Pro (does on PowerBook G4!)

I created a slide in Keynote on my PowerBook G4 with an image dropped in (a pdf, I can't remember whether it was originally cut and past or dragged and dropped in). When transferring the Keynote presentation to a new macBook Pro (copying via a USB thumb drive), the presentation opens but the image does not display (everything else is OK).
The weird thing is that the image does show up in the thumbnail in Navigator View. It disappears in Light Table View, and then is gone when I return back to Navigator View. However, when I close and reopen the file, it appears again in the thumbnail.
When I click on the area where the image should be, the open squares show up around something. If I try to copy this object and past into another application (like Photoshop), I only get a blank image.
I have managed to get around this by laboriously copying the affected images on my PowerBook into separate pdf files, then transferring those files to my MacBook Pro and dropping them into place. However, I know I will find a missing image at some later date, when I no longer have access to my old PowerBook.
    How to solve this problem?
P.S. Both machines are running Keynote 4.0.2 and Mac OS 10.5.2.

    Thanks for taking a look!
The original image was created using Photoshop to cut out an image from a pdf file. Then it was either cut and pasted or dragged into Keynote.
Here are screenshots of what I get when I open the "droppedimage-17.pict" file (shown in the Show Package Contents window) using QuickTime on both machines. For the PowerBook:
    http://www.cems.umn.edu/download/attachments/Powerbook.png
    For the MacBook Pro:
    http://www.cems.umn.edu/download/attachments/MacBook_Pro.png
Strangely, the Powerbook version looks like a correct grey-scale image, while the MacBook Pro looks like a B&W image.

  • Image does not display have editing

I'm wondering if anyone is have this issue. On some of pictures after I make an edit (i.e. crop, spot/patch, etc). the image does not display. If I switch to full screen the updated image displays. When I switch back to the browser and viewer mode the image does not display in the viewer.
This problem certainly makes editing pictures quite difficult.
    Any help would be great!!!
    Here's my system configuration:
    Aperture 2.1
    Mac Pro Dual Core 2.66Ghz
    5GB RAM
    2 x Nvidia GeForce 7300 Graphics Cards
    4 x 24" monitors.

Karsten, thank you for your response, but the problem still seems to exist. I rebuilt my entire Aperture library then started to generate new previews. The rebuilt library and new previews work fine, however, again if I make an edit to the image and the apply the change the updated image does not display. If I resize the image in the viewer the image appears.
This seems to be a very weird problem.

  • LR2.7 does not bring up images from Nikon D7100

LR 2.7 does not bring up images from Nikon D7100 which I have just purchased.  I have downloaded latest DNG raw converter 7.4 but does not work.  The images come through fine in Bridge but not Lightroom.  What is the problem?

Since camera makers insist on their own proprietary file formats, Adobe must provide support for each new camera as it is introduced. When a new version of Lightroom is released all development and support for the previous version ends. Your camera wasn't even mentioned or introduced when Lightroom 2.7 was released. Consequently, there can be no support for it. When you buy the newest camera model you should expect to also buy updated software to support that camera. In any event, the raw processing in the latest version of Lightroom is so far superior to what you have you really need to upgrade your Lightroom. You might consider using the Lightroom 5 beta until the official release.
Are you sure the DNG converter doesn't work? You only point it to the folder containing your raw files. The DNG converter doesn't list the contents of the folder. You will only see a list of your NEF files after you click the button to convert them.

  • Preview does not match printing

When I print a pages document it often leaves out graphics or text boxes. I check to make sure photo is in front and even delete photo and re position it. The image shows in preview but does not print. I sent the document as a PDF to a PC and the image printed correctly.

  • Aperture 3 project does not display any images in one Project

This is a strange situation.  The bullets below outline the situation:
The project does not display any images
When I place the pointer over the project it shows there are 500+ images
I have located the RAW images stored in my aperture library
I can pull up the images using a smart folder and searching for photos taken on the event day
This is happening only to one of my projects that I know of (weird!!)
I have tried to 're-add' the image by both importing and dragging and dropping into the project, neither works
    I tried the following basics:
    Fixed permissions
    Rebuilt the database
Tried to re-import the data, but when I have the 'don't import duplicates' these are not an option
Found the images in my Aperture library
I created another project and drug all of the images into that project
Any idea how I can fix this?
My fear is that if I delete the original project, the original master images will be deleted.

The most common cause of this is some sort of stuff in the search box at the top of the browser that you don't expect to be there. Just clear it and all your images should show up.
    RB
One note - if you drug your images from one project to another it moves them vs copies them unless you hold down the option key.
