Preview unresponsive to keystrokes, based on focus?

Has anybody had a hard time flipping through PDF's in Preview in Snow Leopard? I feel like the arrow keys and opt-cmd-g ("go to page") are often rather temperamental compared to Leopard.
Here's an example: I'm browsing the PDF at
http://www.nap.edu/catalog/12812.html
At startup, the sidebar is showing bookmarks. If I click on one, nothing happens (an error in the PDF?), but I've changed the focus to the sidebar. The arrow keys and "go to" keystroke are unresponsive (but cmd-f ("find") actually works just fine, and it changes the focus to the search bar). Even if I click back in the main document window, the arrow keys and "go to" remain unresponsive. But sometimes if I hit "tab" enough, and sometimes not, the focus returns to the main document, I think, and I can use my arrow keys.
I recognize I'm being old-school by using the arrows or keystrokes instead of track pad swipes, but that's the way I do it! I'd rather not swipe 50 times to get to page 50!

how can you explain that my connection succeed but my iView transaction can not ?
i check up all my parameters and i don't find any problem

  • Preview and TextEdit windows continuously lose focus

    Preview and TextEdit windows keep losing focus.
    In other words, I select the window, but them moments later it deselects itself (title and traffic light buttons grey out).
    The app's menu is still visible (ie it still appears as if Preview or TextEdit is the active app).
    But if I do single-app-expose, no windows appear at all and I just see a blank screen (ie as if the app doesn't have any windows open at all).
    So it's almost as if the app isn't aware it even has windows open?
    Anyone else have this? Any ideas for a fix?

    I'm not sure of the name or if it is even accessable from system monitor.  I had the same issue with the daemon relanching the app and ended up uninstalling everything until there is a fix.  I believe the last update is from 2009 so it's not in active development and chances of an expedited fix aren't great.  I wrote an email to axiotron the same day as my oruginal post here and have not received a response yet.
    While a complete uninstall is more of a trade off than a solution it may be the only 'fix' for the time being.  To uninstall you may need to run an app from within the installation dvd or disk image.
    I'm not near my mac right now but will double check some things in a bit and post if I discover anything new and useful.  In the mean time you can check for options within your app that may disablethe  autostart feature.  This doesn't exist in Quickscripts so I was forced to either uninstall or deal with the bug and not use textedit and preview.....I chose to uninstall of course.

  • Preview of Fixed Position Based eText template displays the formatting

    Hi,
    I am trying to create an EFT template using the eText Fixed Position Based instructions. I copied an existing Fixed Position Based template and made the changes that were needed. When I hit the Preview link, it displays the payments in the formatted template, not in the output that I'm trying to create by using the template.
    Can anyone tell me what step I'm missing? I have created other types of templates and they preview fine.
    Thanks

    There is no difference between DELIMITER_BASED and FIXED_POSITION_BASED
    you can pick up the fixed and convert it into delimiter based,
    allowed columns are MaximumLength,Format,Data,Tag,Comments. delete the rest of the columns.
    And for DELIMITER_BASED templates,After every data field row,you have to insert a delimiter row and put appropriate field delimiters in separate rows between the fields.

  • Keystroke to shift focus to dock

    Stupid question, I know, but what does the ^ mean in keystroke shortcut menu mean? Is it option? Thanks.

    ^ means the Control (ctrl) key is involved in the chord; it's one of the modifier keys: Caps Lock, Control (ctrl), Option (Alt), Function (fn) and Command.
    You'll also sometimes encounter a control-key-based chord listed as Ctrl/F3, in the case of summoning the Dock.
    Command/Tab is another useful chord. (The command key is the Apple or cloverleaf or (useless Apple trivia ahead) the Swedish symbol used to mark areas of interest to campers.)
    For a look at the symbols used in menus and various documents, launch Finder, select Mac Help, and enter the incantation "Symbols for special keys" into the search box.
    The Quicksilver package might be of some future and advanced interest here -- as Mac OS X packages go, Quicksilver is very difficult to describe, and it's also a very powerful way to deal with shortcuts and applications and data. For now and for the near future the special keys listing will be of interest -- and then something like Quicksilver, once you get the hang of the modifier keys and such.

  • Catch keystrokes out of focus

    I'm new to event listeners and such. I was curious... is there a way to catch a key combination even when the program is out of focus?
    I've gotten the Robot class to "see" the cursor location even when I was browsing the web.
    My goal is to have an app that will launch a gui at the cursor's location when the user hits "Ctrl + Shift + [Space]", even if the user is in, say, an FPS! :P
    thx in advance for your help! :D

  • Scrolling JPanel works but doesnt autoscroll based on focused subcomponents

    I need to create a JPanel with large amounts of JTextField components for data entry...
    I want to put this in a JScrollpane so that the large amount of fields can fit on the screen.
    I have this working, with scrollbars and all however,
    When i tab through the textfields, the viewport does not autoscroll to show the active components
    I was hoping there was an easy way to get the scrollpane to behave this way.
    Any ideas?

    Listen focus to force scrolling when a hidden textfield must be scrolled up to get visible.
    Try this, I add 10 JTextField to a JPanel. JScollPane receive setViewPosition when focusEvent occur.
              JPanel spane = new JPanel(new GridLayout(0,1));
               jsp = new JScrollPane(spane);
               for (int i=0; i<10; i++) {
                   JTextField field = new JTextField(20);
                   spane.add(field);
                   field.addFocusListener(new FocusAdapter() {
                       public void focusGained(FocusEvent fe) {
                           JTextField field = (JTextField)fe.getSource();
                           int last = jsp.getVerticalScrollBar().getValue() + jsp.getViewportBorderBounds().height;
                           if (field.getBounds().y > last) {
                             jsp.getViewport().setViewPosition(new Point(field.getBounds().x, field.getBounds().y));
               }This is working when scrolling down, you have to adapt for scrolling up.

  • How can I restore Thunderbird behavior so I can delete emails by pressing delete key multiple times (without using mouse to change focus back to message list)?

    Thunderbird 24.3.0 (latest under OpenBSD)
    I (like most people) get spam in my inbox. When there are multiple spam messages in a row in my inbox I used to click on the first message and then press the delete key repeatedly for each sequential spam message.
    After upgrading, this doesn't work. Instead, when I click a message it opens in the message preview pane and moves the focus to the message. Thus I need to click twice to even be able to press the delete key to delete one message. When I press the delete key, the message is deleted and the highlighted message becomes the next one in the list. This opens the message in the preview pane and again shifts the focus to the message. Thus I can't press the delete key again but must move the mouse to click on the message before I can delete it.
    As a result, what used to be a very fast process of weeding through spam has become a real annoyance.
    I realize I can hide the message preview pane to prevent the focus from moving, but this means I must delete solely based on the email subject/sender -- or open each message (which is even slower).
    I also realize that I can press tab multiple times (sometime 4, sometimes many more) to shift the focus back but that's not much faster than using the mouse.
    How can I prevent Thunderbird from shifting the focus away from the email list panel unless I actually click somewhere else?

    Well said! And you said it about six weeks ago. And 4 other people said "Me Too." - I guess we're screwed.
    I guess it's time to switch to GMail.
    Such a trivial thing, but it irritates me every single time.
    MOZILLA - YOU'RE GOING DOWNHILL...

  • Focus events being received out of order

    I have a complicated applet where each component is registered with multiple focus listeners. I have several pairs of JTextFields and JButtons - textfield A, button A, textfield B, button B etc. Clicking on a JButton normally causes a JTable to be popped and focus transferred to it. Clicking on the table header or selecting a table row causes the table popup to close and the focus transferred to the textfield associated with the button.
    I'm running into a strange case where the focus is initially on textfield A. Clicking on button B causes a temporary loss of focus on textfield A. The trace shows that the focus owner is null and the permanent focus owner is textfield A. The table still gets launched. Selecting a table row causes it to close but no component has focus any more. Focus owner continues to be null, and permanent owner continues to be textfield A.
    After working on other windows in the meantime, and returning to this window I find that the focus in now back to textfield B, as it should. However, the trace shows that B has received permanent focus events. This is followed by receiving permanent focusLost events on A and then permanent focusGained events on A. At the point all in said and done, the focus appears on B.
    Does someone know why the focusGained event on B appears before focus events on A? Another strange thing in the trace was that some focus gain/loss method invocations were interrupted, another focus method invoked and the previous method resumed. I could possibly take care of this by using synchronized on all focus gain/loss methods. Also, some methods show only part of execution and not even resumed. This is still a mystery to me. I'll appreciate if someone can shed light on this.

    One of the things you'll notice is that when a text field loses focus to a right-click JPopupMenu, it is never just one foucs lost/gained pair, but rather they trade focus back and fourth a few times. This is the same when the popup closes, the focus trades back and fourth a few times.
    You are describing a similar situation between a button and a text field.
    There never was any guarantee the gained/lost events happen in any order. Also, if there is a chain of focus events, the information in the intermediate events may not be useful.
    If you really do need to understand the focus changes at an actionable level, you might want to consider writing a focus helper class that can be used to answer semantic questions about focus changes, such as, did this component lose focus because of a button click? Or was it a Popup? Or was it a Tab-keystroke?
    The focus helper can store 'hidden' information in any JComponent using JComponent.setClientProperty(Object key, Object value)...
    So instead of creating a focus listener like:
    myComponent.addFocusListener(new FocusAdapter() {
      public void focusGained(FocusEvent e) {
        // do stuff here
    });You can do it like this:
    myComponent.addFocusListener(FocusHelper.createTextFieldToButtonListener());and in that method it creates the listener like this (you might need to pass some parameters):
    public static FocusListener createTextFieldToButtonListener() {
    FocusAdapter adapter = new FocusAdapter() {
      public void focusGained(FocusEvent e) {
        recordEvent(e);
        // do stuff here
    return adapter;
    }The helper method "recordEvent" tags those components with additional information about permenant and temporary focus ownership. Also it clears hidden information that is no longer useful.
    Then later on you can give the focus helper a FocusEvent, and ask it, is this text field gaining focus because of a Tab-In, or is it because of a popup menu has closed?
    The helper constructs answers based on the hidden properties it finds in the e.getOppositeComponent() and e.getSource(). It put those properties there, so it knows what they mean, and it uses them to distinguish between useless information in the focus event chain, and the important things you want to know.

    Hi,
    I have recently upgraded from 8.1 version to weblogic 10.0.1 vesion. The new eclipse based IDE is really cool but major problem being the lack of visual editing of the JSP pages.
    I know there is is JSP visualization for workshop studio 10.2. But in my case i can use 10.0.1 version only.
    Is there any plugins for the upgrading my workshop to get these feature?

  • An Aperture 3 "Photo Preview" explanation appreciated.

    As I have plenty of free disk storage I would like to set “Photo Preview” to yield the best possible quality and size. (The resolution of my monitor is 1260 X 1440)
    I would appreciate an explanation of the choices of the Fit Within figures such as “Don’t limit”, “Fit within 2560 X 2560”, Fit within 1920 X 1920” etc.
    My aim is to show my photos onscreen to their best advantage as well as sometimes using them for emailing to friends or creating slide shows for emailing to friends.
    Are my current settings right for my purposes?

    Cliff

    Hi Cliff.  Sounds like you got this figured out already  .
    The Preview file that Aperture creates and keeps is a JPG rendering of the Image.  In general it is a big thumbnail.   The Preview is used:
    - as a placeholder while the Original+Version is rendered (this is done "live" -- Aperture does not keep these files from session to session).
    - when in in Quick Preview mode (the Preview is used in place of the fully-rendered Image in order to speed processing when culling or working with metadata).
    - when you drag an Image from Aperture to another program.
    - when the Originals are off-line (e.g.: if you have put your Image's Originals on an external drive and that drive is not mounted).
    - in Slideshows (but if you create a Slideshow and the Previews don't exist, Aperture will create them).
    - and probably a few I forgot.
    The Preview can also be used as a some insurance against total loss:  if you lose your Image's Originals but still have the full Library, the Library will have the Previews.
    You should set your Preview size (and existence) based on your needs.  I keep Previews of every Image, at the resolution of my monitor, at compression level 10.  If you truly want "best quality" and maximum size, you should set yours to "Don't limit" and "12".  The difference between 12 and 10 is going to be a lot of bytes, and probably no perceptible change in quality.  The size you select is straight-forward, with a direct relationship between size and storage requirements.
    Note that you can delete and re-render Previews at any time.  I have found it much easier to "set it and forget it" -- but I am willing to provide the storage space needed and prefer the performance of a Library with a full set of Previews.
    I suspect you've see it, but the User Manual page on Previews is here.

  • Restrciting NAST entries while 'print preview' of VA02/03 sales order

    Hi experts,
    While doing 'printing preview' for the displayed  VA03/02 sales order, an entry is created in the NAST table.
    The requirement is to not create(or diffrentiate based on some flag) this entry in NAST table while doing 'printing preview' ..but for actual print the entry in NAST table should be created.
    Finally the main aim is to differentiate between print preview vs actual print based on NAST entry.
    I tried debugging but the parameters for print preview vs actual print  are same.
    How can the print preview action be distinguished from actual print in such cases.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    The requirement is to not create(or diffrentiate based on some flag) this entry in NAST table while doing 'printing preview' ..but for actual print the entry in NAST table should be created.
    For your requirement to differentiate, you can use the field VSTAT in NAST table, this has possible values of 0, 1 and 2.
    0     Not processed
    1     Successfully processed
    2     Incorrectly processed
    So as and when an output type for printing is attached, the status of the output remains '0' until the form is actually printed, so in case of print preview it will remain to be '0'. This will change to '1' once the Print command is actually issued.

  • TextInput Custom Skin with different for when focused in

    Hello,
    Is it possible to Skin a TextInput to look one way when not focused and another when focused in?
    Basically, have states based on focus?
    Thank you.

    Hmm.  Thought I’d answered.
    It should be possible.  I think you just add states to the skin and override getCurrentSkinState in the host.

  • Prompt Preview and Dashboard prompt Date Format.

    Hi,
    When seen in its preview, a Dashboard prompt based on Date data type is shown using format 'mm/dd/yyyy' which is the expected format. However, when seen on a dashboard page, the prompt's format becomes 'yyyy/mm/dd'.
    Does anyone have idea how to fix this or what could be the reason?
    If you need more information, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Manoj.

    In the prompt window there was a little clock icon symbol. I first had to go to the BI admiistration in the physical and change (the specific column/field) from a timestamp to date. We also needed to a default date to be applied to our application so I created a global variable and made it a string so that it would appear in the application in the format like you stated in your thread: Select to_char(sysdate,'mm/dd/yyyy') from dual. But overall I think the real trick was changing the physical from a timestamp to date.

  • Create smart previews automatically in a collection

    Hi everybody,
    Small question;
    Is there a way to automatically create smart previews inside a collection?
    Now, I know how to create a smart collection of only my holiday pictures with a five star rating. That's not the problem, but is there a way that these pictures are automatically transferred into a smart preview?
    Cheers for your replies!
    Raymond

    Hi Rob,
    Well, your the software develper with Lightroom... I hope you can find a way, but then again I am realistically enough to understand that  the LR-Team can't accomodate everyones wishes. Thank God, for that by the way!
    In General I do wanna say... LR is GREAT, super program! Job well done! The upgrade is worth the money, especially the performance boost is super!
    Just one other thing, maybe I should start a new question for this... You'll be the judge...
    Phase One, I think, have something called a focus mask (http://blog.phaseone.com/tag/focus-mask/.) A mask that shows in an overlay (in the preview) the area that is in focus. Give the link a read, its very interesting and something I wish LR would have.
    If you're at it, I mean develping for LR, think of a focus mask. Especially with makro/food photography its very helpful.
    Ray
    PS: Thanks for your quick replies. The service LR gives is very good indeed! And the help you get is very accurate! (You beat Apple at that point by miles)
