Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Device Configurations

We use PI 2.0 physical appliance.
Is it possible to save a shadow copy of the configs so that you get config in filesystem?
We want to save the configs to an external server.
Actually we are using this feature in LMS.
Regards

Hi,
unfotunately this feature is not avaiable so far an Enhancement request is already filed to track this issue:
CSCug82578    Prime Infrastructure should maintain archive shadow directory like LMS

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3, Mail Configuration

    Hi,
I have a Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 and I want to set up the mail. When I test it,  I get this error:
Failed  to send mail to primary SMTP server. Failed to send mail to secondary  SMTP server. Please make sure that you save mail configuration by  hitting 'Save' button.
I have the ip  address, and the username and password. Do I need to create a new buzon  for the prime? because by default the "From" field appears with
    [email protected]
    Thanks!!

Some extra info that has just come to my attention.  At one point we were running (we're actually still running) CiscoWorks with LMS3.2 and Cisco NCS 1.x.  I merged these two things together into Cisco Prime Infrastructure (upgraded the licensing to get 450 lifecycle licenses to cover the APs + all of the devices coming from LMS3.2).  I followed all of the documented procedures to upgrade the NCS appliance to Prime Infrastructure.  But when I type "show application" from the CLI of the NCS appliance (now the Prime Infrastructure appliance) I see this:
    HQ-NCS1/admin# show application
NCS             Cisco Prime Network Control System
Is that normal?  Maybe this is my problem.  Should this output list "Cisco Prime Infrastructure" instead of (or in addtion to) Cisco Prime Network Control System?  When I login to the GUI it shows "Cisco Prime Infrastructure" and the GUI has changed considerably (menus are different) so I'm assuming that the application upgrades I launched from the CLI to go to Prime Infrastructure worked fine.

  • Cisco Prime 2.1 Backup Device Configuration

    Hi
Does anybody knows how I can change the credential of a group of devices to archive all the running configuration?
And other question is where this configuration is stored?
    Thanks for your help
    regards

The Bulk update option has been started with PI 2.0.
You can either streamline or change the information on the devices, or if you have another set of credentials for a different subnet, you could add that to the CLI section of the discovery profile and rerun the discovery. If you have a handful of changes, you can click the devices with a status of Managed with Warning and then click the Edit button to modify the credentials.
With Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0, there is now an ability to export devices with credentials directly from the GUI. Navigate to Operate > Device Work Center and you should be able to see the “Export Device” button as shown in following figure:
At that point in time, you can export the device credentials, change them using a spreadsheet application, and import them back.
TIP: If you need to change the credentials for devices in bulk, this method can be used to do that.
    Importing Devices Manually
If you maintain a spreadsheet that has all the devices and would rather get started with that, you do have this option in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0. If you to go Operate > Device Work Center > Bulk Import, you get an import pop-up as shown in the figure below:
The configuration is stored in the oracle DB in various table and indexes. Unfortunately, it doesnt allows to see that configuration from the server directory. But you can manage and view from CPI GUI.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure - not updating device details

We run Cisco prime Infrastructure and I have found an interesting problem that I can't see an easy way round.
If I have say a Cisco 2950 switch on my network, managed by Prime and I upgrade it to a 3560 - I then ask Prime to re-sync the device details.
This works - you can see the updated configuration files etc but the device ID stays the same - Prime still thinks it is a 3560, which it was when the device was originally added.
Is there a way, short of deleting the device and adding it again (losing the config archive) of getting prime to update it's details to reflect the hardware change?
It came to light as it screwed up a network hardware audit I was doing - this is all showing up on Prime as the old 2050's which I have replaced with 3560's.
There must be an easier way that just deleting the device and re-adding it?

This is by no means a full solution, but deleting and re-adding only takes a few minutes if you use the "Export Device" and "Bulk Import" features from the Device Work Center. You can export the desired devices to a CSV file, delete them, then import from the CSV.
Of course, you might lose historical data when deleting the devices, but I'm guessing that's not as relevant since the devices themselves have been replaced by different hardware.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure release 2.1 configuration archiving on CISCO WiSM2

    Hi all,
Just wondering Cisco Prime Infrastructure  release 2-1 support configuration archiving on CISCO WiSM2?
CISCO  release 2.0 mentioned that it doesn't support configuration archiving for WiSM2 but release 2.1 doesn't mention anything on it.

No, it is not supported even for PI 2.1

  • Prime Infrastructure API add device

I've been looking at the Prime Infrastructure 2.1 API at /webacs/api/v1/ on my PI instance but I can't seem to find a way to add devices using the API? Looking to write a script for our techs to run after the provisioning of a new device and would love a way to get it added to Prime. Any ideas?

It isn't possible in Prime Infrastructure 2.1 to add devices via API, however, it now is possible with version 2.2. I've used it myself and I can confirm that it works.

    Regards,

    Hi rowansakul,
The work around for this particular issue involves having a user set up in the root cli and then from the the GUI navigate to Administration > System Settings > Image Management and set up the SSH Username with your new user account that you created under root cli.  That is the credentials that Prime is looking for when it is attempting to access its own image repository.

  • Prime Infrastructure Device Configuration

I recently installed Prime Infrastructure to replace LMS and NCS, but I've encountered an issue with changing device settings.   I had a controller set up to pull configs with no issue, but I had to change the IP to move it to a different VLAN ("it" meaning the controller).   After I changed the IP, the device showed that it was unavailable in the device/operation dashboard in Prime INF, as expected.
Now, I can't find a way to change the IP address of the controller in any way, shape or form.   It allows me to change everything else, but not the IP address.   The only option I have is to delete the object and add a new one, which will remove access to the saved configurations.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or that it's defective by design, but if you can't change the management interface IP for a device without adding a new one, you've got a bit of a problem.

    That directory doesn't exist
    ade # ls -al /var/adm/CSCOpx/files/rme/dcma/shadow
ls: /var/adm/CSCOpx/files/rme/dcma/shadow: No such file or directory
    ade #
    ade # ls -al /var/adm/
ls: /var/adm/: No such file or directory
I guess the configs are not in individual files but within the database

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Automatically add remove devices

    Dears,
I'm basically looking for a dcrcli equivalent to use on prime infrastructure 2.0.
Customer has a central repository of devices that must be monitored. When devices are added or removed there, they automagically appear or disappear in the other systems.
Does something like this exist or is this on the roadmap?
    Cheers,
    Michel

    Hi Scott,
Upto 7.3 config guide it was documented we have to reboot WLC when we configuring SNMP v3 which is wrong. (here is 7.3 config guide link for reference). May be older version (prior to 7.0) had that requirement, not too sure about it
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/7.3/configuration/guide/b_wlc-cg_chapter_0100.html#d16741e4514a1635
From 7.4 onwards config guide does not talk about it all. I deleted the default SNMPv3 user & create a new user in 7.4 & add it to prime without rebooting WLC.
Once you configureed a SNMPv3 user on a WLC, I do no think you can edit/change the password. You have to delete the user & recreate it with modified username/password.Then re-add the WLC to prime
The behaviour you mentioned is with any of later codes  of WLC ?

    Hi Jeremy,
SNMP traps are shown in the events and alerts section of PI.
SNMP config looks fine. Can  you run the SNMP debug (debug snmp packets ) .check the logs and see if the device is actually sending the TRAPS to the PI server.
    Thanks-

    Licences installed (ncs stopped,rebooted)
Added all devices via Bulk Import (Inventory>Device Management>Network Devices)
    Problem 1:
The Cisco 5500 WLCs are not listed in Inventory>Device Management>Network Devices (see screen shot) but listed under "All Devices"!
The Cisco 4400 WLCs and the 8500 WLCs are listed within their subgroup.
    Devices are in "Managed State"
    Problem 2: fixed! (Browser issue)
    Problem 3:
Unable to run "Wired Detailed Device Inventory" report because I get the error message: Failed to run report: Unable to retrieve data for: Chassis Information (if Chassis Information is selected, if System Information is selected I get the error message with ...retrieve data for:System Information)
All devices do have an "Admin Status = Managed" and the Last Inventory Collections Status = Completed.
Has anyone the same issues or a tip for me?

    Hallo Bastian,
I think you still have browser issue, Using IE is still the best with Prime.
I have exactly same prime 2.2 and installed fixes/software/device packs.
I have no problem I can see all views. I use now IE 11, with Chrome 42.0.2311.90 and firefox 37.01 I have problems too with lots of views. You have not tell what browser + version you have.
Since you have same prime 2.2 as me. I have other problems, can you check yours?

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.1 - Out Of Sync Devices

    Hi all,
We are running a Cisco Prime Infrastructure Appliance (Version 2.1) to mange/monitor/configure our wired network infrastructure. We have been able to successfully add all of the network infrastructure devices to Prime and have had relative success in image deployment, reporting etc.
However, my query is in relation to the Configuration Archives. Currently Prime is indicating that 90% of our devices are 'Out of Sync'. I know that this means that there are discrepancies between the startup and running configs. I have compared the startup and running configs on some of the affected devices and the only differences I can see were in relation to the snmp-server contact XXXX entry and the self-signed certificate entry.
Can anyone tell me how I can go about troubleshooting this or how to bring the device configurations back into sync.
    Many thanks,
    John P

    Hi John,
If you navigate to Operate > Configuration Archives it will display a list of all your devices that are listed as out of sync.  From here you can sort to the devices that are listed as Out of sync, select the ones that are listed as such and schedule an overwrite.  There is also an option to archive immediately after it overwrites as well.  It may take a bit for it to update through this page, but navigating to individual devices through device work center and clicking on the configuration archive tab, will yield that the out of sync (startup/running mismatch) message will switch to no.

  • Prime Infrastructure Device and Interface Health Collection Settings

    Hello,
i am evaluating Prime Infrastructure 1.2, so far i have added two devices. A router 2911 and an Catalyst 3560x, but for both devices i don't get any graphs for memory, cpu or interface utilization.
I tried to enable Administration > System Settings > Monitoring Settings Auto Monitoring but the changes are not saved even i nice status message on the bottom right corner.
after a refresh it's like before.
I have an NCS as well and there i have in the background tasks Switch CPU and Memory Poll as well as Switch Interface Utilization Poll. In the Prime Infrastructure i don't have them at all. According to the Configuration Guide there should be a CAT Switch CPU and Memory Poll and a CAT Switch Interface Poll Task, but there is nothing.
    Here the Screenshot from NCS
    and here from Prime Infrastructure

    Alex, Suwa
You can still monitor interfaces with the following workaround (which works for me):
    Under Design > Monitoring Configuration:
From the tree on the left, expand Features > Interface Health
If needed, select the interface parameters to poll and the polling intervals, provide a name to your template and then click "Save as new template"
    Under Deploy > Monitoring Deployment:
Locate your template and click the green "Deploy" button
Select which devices you want to poll, or just select a group like "Routers", Switches etc.
That should do the trick and information should show up after few minutes.
    Hope it helps,
    Tomer
BTW- you can also perform the same for device health, by using "Device Health" Metrics template under "Design".
