Prime Infrastructure 2.0 to 2.1 upgrade; tftp/ftp fails everytime

We are trying to do an inline upgrade to 2.1 following the quickstart guide.  When trying to use TFTP or FTP to copy the upgrade file to disk://defaultRepo the tftp software reports a timeout error waiting for the first acknowledgement.  The defaultRepo directory then shows the file but only 512 bytes were copied.
This happens with multiple tftp programs and one FTP application.
Searching for a solution shows that this problem existed back in 1.2/1.3 and the fix involved logging in as root to modify a configuration file.  Surely this isn't the same issue.

We have the same problems with upgrading IOSes via TFTP.
Other TFTP tasks, like gathering vlan.dat files in Configuration Archive  Job, is also failed.
Netstat -an command in root shell shows that java process listening 69 udp.
udp        0      0 :::69                       :::*                                    9183/java
/opt/CSCOlumos/jre32/bin/java -Djava.system.class.loader=com.cisco.xmp.classLoader.XMPSystemClassLoader -Dcom.cisco.xmp.XMPHome=/opt/CSCOlumos -Dinstall.dir=/opt/CSCOlumos -server -Xms32m -Xmx256m -XX:MaxPermSize=128m -Djava.awt.headless=true -Daes.dir=/opt/CSCOlumos -Dmibs.root=/opt/CSCOlumos/resources/wirless/mibs -cp /opt/CSCOlumos/classloader-conf:/opt/CSCOlumos/./lib/xmp/XMPClassLoader-8.0.24.jar com.cisco.remoting.packaging.RemotingServiceMain Tftp
Wireshark shows that Prime tried to do "copy flash:vlan.dat tftp:" but server says "%Error opening tftp://address/xxxx.cfg"
Strange thing that in directory /localdisk/tftp I see some collected vlan.dat files (about 10, regardless that we have >1000 switches). But I cannot copy them to device manually..
Summary, TFTP service is started but not works correctly.

  • Upgrading from LMS 4.1 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure

Looking for some information and confirmation on the upgrade process.
Currently we are running LMS 4.1 with a valid SAS Service Contract which will allow me to upgrade to Prime Infrastructure 1.1 or Prime Infrastructure 1.2 using the upgrade tool at no charge. After using the tool I am given access to download PI1.1 or PI1.2, however, it only actually let me download PI1.1 but said i do not have the proper permissions to download the 1.2 license. I also noticed that the software images for 1.2 are not available ont he ciso download page.
I am wondering what the latest version of Prime Infrastructure I will be able to upgrade to without an additional purchase. Can I upgrade up to all the way up to 1.4 or can I only go up to 1.2 (but then where is the download for the software).
If i can upgrade to 1.4 then what path should I take? 1.1 to 1.3 to 1.4? Just skip 1.2 since the download is not available and it will not let me download the license file?
    Thank you for your help

LMS 4.x to Prime 1.x would not be considered a functional or recommended "upgrade" for most intents as you would lose several major capabilities (Topology, Ciscoview, many reports, compliance templates, etc.). Your best path right now would be to move your LMS along to the current version - 4.2.4. The release notes explain the upgrade path for that.
Licensing and upgrade eligibility-wise you need SASU for PI (not plain SAS for LMS) for major upgrades (i.e to go to 2.0). An LMS SAS contract entitles you to migrate to PI 1.2 which in effect means 1.3 although Cisco had some issues with updating the ordering system so there was not actually a SKU for PI 1.3 sold - only the 1.2 version which, when combined with your LMS SAS service contract, entitles you to move to PI 1.3 (or 1.4 but that's not generally recommended). More details are in the Prime Ordering and Licensing Guides here.
Personally, I recommend customers with existing LMS 4.x installations wait until PI 2.1 comes out to consider the upgrade. 2.0 still misses several tools present in LMS 4.x.
If you really want to move over to PI, you can export the data from LMS 4.2.4 and import into PI 1.3 (or 2.0).

  • Upgradding Prime Infrastructure version 1.2 and LMS 4.x to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0

    Hello,
A customer currently have 2,500 Cisco Prime Infrastructure Lifecycle device license using Prime Infrastructure version 1.2 and LMS 4.x. the customer wants to upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0.
Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade to version 2.0 without additional cost? the licenses from
Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 has to be upgraded or we need only to rehost the VUDI.
Also could be possible to upgrade LMS 4.x to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0?
    thanks!

The two features you mention are two big missing ones. Another is full syslog capability. I don't believe CiscoView or day one support via package updates is included either.
Another is less tangible - the depth of experience and documentation available for LMS vs. Prime Infrastructure (particularly the wired management features). I agree for wireless PI 2.0 looks good. Some new features are coming for wired that look promising but they are new as of PI 2.0 so I'm taking a wait and see on them.
I hope to get 2.0 up in my lab in the next week or so and will hope to be pleasantly surprised but that's seldom the case with a major new release.

  • Prime LMS 4.2 to Prime Infrastructure 2.0 license migration

A couple of months ago I upgraded WCS to Prime Infrastructure (WCS via NCS to PI 1.2 at that time). Meanwhile PI is running version 2.0. For some reason, when purchasing the upgrade licenses, I also got a 500 device LMS4.2 upgrade license.
    The exact part numbers were:
R-W-PI12-M-K9 WCS 7.0 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Migration
R-PI12-BASE-K9 Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Base License and Software
    L-PI12-LF-500-LIC Prime Infrastructure 1.2 - Lifecycle - 500 Device Lic PAK
L-PILMS42-500-M Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 - 500 Device Upgrade Lic
I have a virtual LMS appliance running where I installed the 500 device license I mentioned. I've actually never used LMS but that's a different story...
As I'm running low on PI device licenses (lifecycle licenses to be precise), the question is:
Is there an officially supported scenario to migrate these 500 LMS 4.2 licenses (that are already the result of a license upgrade) to PI 2.0?
If so: what part numbers do I need to purchase? I suppose I need
R-L-PI2X-U-K9 LMS to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.x Upgrade
    plus
(L-L-PI2X-500-U LMS to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.x Lifecycle Upgrade 500 Device)
    XOR
(L-L-PI2X-500-UP LMS to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.x Lifecycle Upgrade with PASS 500 Device)
Maybe someone can comment on that... thanks in advance.

In case anyone is facing the same issue:
Meanwhile, I finished the upgrade process using the following part numbers:

  • Migrating from NCS 1.0 to Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    Hi friends
I know i had short discussion about this before but here it comes again and this time in detail.
I have NCS 1.0 with 100 devices support license installed. Now knowing it has reached end of sale, and also for the fact that Prime does cover devices like routers, i went ahead to the upgrade path via PUT (Product Upgrade Tool).
Finally I received an email (OBA) advising my order is ready. This email included two items in the shipment,
    L-N-PI12-100-M=
NCS 1.0 to Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Minor Upg 100 Device
    L-PILMS42-100-M
Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 - 100 Device Upgrade Lic
When i click to the link in the same email to download the license, it only shows me one file which is
    L-PILMS42-100-M
I tried using this file and installing on the NCS1.0 but it gives me error that this file is not a license file. The license name suggests me that it is not the license to be installed on the NCS. The file should be L-N-PI12-100-M=
Thanks for reading this all and would appreciate all your inputs here.
    Regards,
    Mohit

Marvin Rhoads wrote:Your PI 1.2 also includes the right to install and use LMS 4.2 - a separately installed and licensed server. If you want Assurance (or Compliance) licenses for PI, they will have to be ordered separately. The license files delivedred when you buy those product SKUs will allow you to use those features. The starting point (base) in PI 1.2 is Lifecycle.
when i followed the inpath upgrade,  i receved an email from the licensing that the license file is ready for download. the order said,
      Product Name          : L-PILMS42-100-M
         Product Description      : L-PILMS42-100-M : Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 - 100 Device Upgrade Lic
and the attached lic file "LMS2013021XXXXXXX.lic" came along from them.
but when i installed that lic file, i got the error message from the upgarded the PI 1.2 that the file is not a license file.
The trouble is i cannot generate another lic file (if the exsting generated file was corrupt) cos the PAK is already been used once.
Now i am wondering i can avail that LMS file that would be good, but when i spoke to the TAC, i was told that this file name doesnt seem correct as this is PI and it wont understand LMS file. It was only useful if you were upgraing from LMS to PI and because my case was NCS to PI, this will not work.
    Any suggestions?

  • Prime Infrastructure Licensing question

I received a PAK and I generated a license from it.  E Mail that I received shows this:
       Product Name         : L-PILMS42-50-M
Product Description     : Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 - 50 Device Upgrade Lic
Now this says Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 and according to this link this is for LMS.  Is this right or did our reseller sent us a wrong PAK?

•Prime Infrastructure 1.2 (product) - replaces Cisco Prime NCS 1.1 and NCS (WAN) 1.1
    •Prime LMS 4.2

  • Getting past "Fetch VLAN configuration - Command failed" errors in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 - How?

I've got a handful of devices in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 which show up in the "Archive Failed Devices" view.  The "Failure Reason" is some variation of "Fetch VLAN configuration - Command failed" sometimes including "TELNET: Failed to establish TELNET connection to x.x.x.x".  What does this mean?  How do I overcome this?  In all cases, the device is configured to use SSH and has valid SSH credentials.  In all cases, I can SSH from the command line of the NCS appliance to the devices listed in the "Archive Failed Devices" view.

    Hi
I was able to fix the "Fetch VLAN configuration - Command failed" by allowing tftp from the device to PI server in firewall. See if this can help.

  • Error in Prime Infrastructure 2.0 after Controller upgrade

    Hello
I've got two WiSM and Prime Infrastructure 2.0. Last week I upgraded one WiSM to 7.0.250.0, plus a third controller. That worked fine, but since then, my PI shows one of the two controllers of the second WiSM as "Unreachable". I rebooted the PI and also rebooted the controller again, to no avail.
I tried now to update the snmp v2c credentials in PI, but receive an error.
The error message shown when I try to update the credentials is:
Error: Common-1: Some unexpected internal error has occurred. If the problem persists please report to the Tech Support.
    Error:Detail: errorId=6 Invalid credential name: snmp_transport.
    Any ideas?
I can normally access the controller through its webinterface and don't see any errors that would spring to the eye.
    [edit]
Just manualy run the Task "Controller Operational Status" and received this error:
    com.cisco.wnbu.server.common.errors.InternalException: COMMON-1
    Thanks
    Patrick

I worked with TAC Team and the final solution was to delete all controllers and add them again. This might get fixed in a future version though.

  • Cisco LMS 4.0.1 to Prime Infrastructure 2.x Upgrade

    Hello,
we are using Cisco LMS and want to upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure.
Now we have received the following license update: L-L-PI2X-100-U     -      LMS to Prime Infrastructure 2.x Upgrade 100 Device
and I wonder what is the best way to upgrade.
After a long search I found the following document on cisco:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/cloud-systems-management/prime-infrastructure/guide-c07-729990.html#wp9000727
There is only the talk of the upgrade from 4.2 LMS to Prime.
The problem is that we can not update to version 4.2 because of an error. Thats one reason why we need to upgrade to prime.
Is the only possibility now to export databases?
    thanks in advance

    Hi Heiko,
Upgarding from LMS 4.0.1 to LMS 4.2  , you need a New Licesne . Are you getting that error..
Upgarding from LMS to PI is alomost like a new Installation of PI. because only thing you can IMPORT from LMS to PI is the device list .
you can download the software from the below link:
    http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284422771&flowid=45323&softwareid=284272932&release=2.0.0&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=all

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure - Assurance. Upgrade from 1.2 to 2.0

    Hi,
We had purchased Prime Infrastructure 1.2 with SAU smartnet. Before we deployed 1.2 now I see 2.0 version is out and we qualify for upgrade license. However when I login to CCO to download the OVA file, I see 3 different editions. Express, Pro and Standard. Which one do I qualify to install? I have purchased following part numbers with 1.2 version.
    R-PI12-K9     -     Qty 1
    L-PI12-LF-100-LIC     -     Qty 1
    L-PILMS42-100     -     Qty 1
    L-PI12-LF-100     -     Qty 1
    Thanks in advance,
    Sam

    Hi,
Check the below link for difference between [ Express, Pro and Standard ]
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2.0/quickstart/guide/cpi_qsg.html#wp46865
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2.0/quickstart/guide/cpi_qsg.html#wp75315
    L-PI12-LF-100-LIC and
    L-PI12-LF-100   :: Prime Infrastructure 1.2 - Lifecycle - 100 Device Lic PAK
are same as per my understanding and you can use these license to installed PI 2.0 with device count of 100.
Note: you  can also add additional licenses(feature license ) for more Lifecycle (via R-PI12-K9 skus), which can be used for both Prime Infrastructure and LMS.

Hi, Thank you again for your help, but I am still stuck. I have gathered the outputs from ncs start and a ncs status afterwards. Currently I am not able to access the web-UI of NCS..

  • Upgrade questions about Prime Infrastructure 1.1.1.24 to 1.3

My existing NCS is installed with the small deployment and I'll have a total of 94 AP's but we are installing a new data center and replacing the existing 2 WISM blades for 2 new 5508 WLCs and added 20 more AP'S which will total 114 AP's and 4 controllers. The old WISMs blades and new 5508s will be up together until we migrate exisitng AP's to the new 5508s, so do I need to install the medium deployment since Table for Scaling Prime Infrastructure states:
Medium: 500 Total. The mix of devices may included up to:
         Wired devices: 300
         Controllers: 5
         Autonomous AP's: 300
         Unified AP's: 300
Small Deployments are for a total of 250 devices "with up to" 100 Unified AP's and 2 controllers??
Also as part of the download of software for PI 1.3 it   includes Automated Deployment Gateway is this a required piece to install for PI??  We don't use Cisco works so I'm not installing the LMS piece.
    thank you,
    Sandra

Isn't it rediculous the message says:::
Error(s): You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:
Error:Unknown Exception Occurred. If the problem persists send logs to Tech Support.
And the fix is to use a different browser?
BTW:: Good Idea to try a different browser.  By the looks of the Error Msg, it just didn't look like a browser issue to me so I didn't think to do that but certainly will next time on this and probably many, many, many other issues I see-
We only spent about an hour chasing our tails around to see what the issue was.
    Again good catch!
I was speaking w/ another customer today who mentioned if the application were re-written to use HTML 5 these type problems would go away.
    Oh well.
Glad I could help you get all the way upgraded and all the way up and running and able to push templates to your lightweight APs.
    Cya
