Print IDCS2 Book using InBooklet?

I have created a photo album as an IDCS2 Book. The pages are 8 1/2 x 11, and I have a local printer who will print a single copy as color laser output on 11 x 17, chop it in half and 3 hole drill it. The final is intended to be "bound" by putting the pages in a photo album type 3 ring binder. This will allow me to interleave mylar sleeves holding ephemera gathered on the trip: tickets, brochures, menus, postcards, etc. So far so good. (I think, given the text I've typeset amongst the digital photos, and the wish to include the ephemera, this is the best solution to how to incorporate all the materials: trip journal, photos and extra stuff.)
My local printer doesn't --and I don't-- know how best to handle the IDCS2 Book files. There are 15 files to the 264 page book, and it is set up, and I want it to, print "run-in." That is, I've allowed IDCS2 to handle creating the spreads from file to file, with no section starts. So sometimes a file will end recto, and the next file begin verso, etc.
My local printer wants to use InBooklet to impose the whole shebang as --I think-- a 2-up saddle stitch print job, cut all the 4-page signatures down the middle and flop the two "halves" together. Then 3 hole drill at the spine and be done. Never having turned a Book file into an actual print job, I don't how how best or most efficiently to proceed. (Maybe using the local printer for this isn't the most efficient way to go, but I like the folks, they're helpful and willing to learn.)
Note that 264 pages of mostly photos has created an immense set of files: my Mac finder says the IDCS2 files alone are 1.18 gigabytes, and the original JPEGs are 1.19 gb. I'll burn all this onto a DVD for delivery, so that's not a problem, but I hope to avoid trying to create some kind of unwieldy interim document. In other words, can we use the Book files directly? My local printer has IDCS2, so can work with the raw files.
Any advice as to best practice here would be greatly appreciated.

I think I understand what you are trying to do here, i.e. you are looking for a way to print one copy of your book. If I understand, the printer wants to print this on 11 x 17, probably to save on click charges.
Here's the bad news. InBooklet is not available for book files -- it only works with a single .indd file. You basically have two choices, ask the printer how much more it will cost to print on letter-size paper, or find a way to combine the book components into a single file. Which way to go may be a trade-off between printing costs and the value of your time.
There are two common methods for consolidating books. The first is to print the first is to export to PDF, at which point you can use a script to place the multipage PDF into a new InDesign document which may be imposed using InBooklet, but of course there is no way to edit the content.
The second method is to open the first file in the book, then each of the remaining files, one at a time, in order. Be sure you are able to see both document windows at the same time. Select all the pages of each later section in the pages palette, then drag from the palette and drop them onto the document window (not the pages palette) of the first section. Save the file with a new name.

  • Is it possible to print a book using an A4 printer?

Hi, are there some settings I can change in iPhoto that will allow me to use A4 paper size?
    Thank you!

In the Print menu, beside the printer name (or IP number if that is shown), there is a little triangle. Click on that the reveal more information and settings.
About the centre of the panel is a button marked iPhoto. From that, there is a menu item, "Paper Handling." In there is a check box, "Scale to Fit Paper Size" and when you check that, the button above becomes active and you are able to select A4 among a range of other paper sizes.

Is it possible to put together and order a printed iPhoto book using my iPad

No. The iPhoto for iOS can edit photos and share them to social media sites like Facebook. But the app does not have the capability of creating photo books.

It's your content, under your control.
If you output as an .ibooks file, and you want to sell it, the store is the only outlet, otherwise, you can do as you wish.

  • I want to use Apple print to print a square book - using Aperture.  How?

I want to use Apple print to print a SQUARE format book - using Aperture.  How?

I want to use Apple print to print a SQUARE format book - using Aperture.  How?
Not with Aperture. You have to use the new Photos for Mac, if you want to print a square book with Apple's Print services.
You could collect  the images you want in the book in an album, export the albums a s a new Aperture library, open the album Photos, and create your book.
Or create a custom book in aperture, print the pages of the book to JPEG, import the jpegs to Photos and use them as full page photos to create a photo book in Photos.

  • Printing address book on day-timer portable page

Anyone have any suggestions for the page layout to print address book to Day-Timer Portable page format? They don't give any options (like Avery 5160, etc). My wife still likes her addresses printed out for her Day-Timer book. The old app that she previously used on her old Mac no longer works on the new OS on her MacAir.

I used to have the Palm Desktop application on my old Mac and that what we used to printout the Day-Timer Portable page format. Of course the Palm Desktop app no longer works on the new Mac OS. I guess if I could get the page layout for that app, I could duplicate the layout.

  • When printing a book to PDF, bookmark definitions are not saved

I recall seeing another post about this issue and I can't find it now, but none of the workarounds mentioned there worked for me, so here goes:
I am working on a book migrated from FM 9 to FM 11, and when I print to PDF, I specify the bookmarks I want to display in the Bookmarks tab of the PDF Setup for Selected Files dialog. The PDF prints fine, but when I want to print the book again, FM doesn't remember my settings, forcing me to set the bookmarks from scratch every time. This has proven pretty tedious seeing that I'm working with an old book in which the styles aren't intiutive, so trying to remember all of them every time isn't the best of fun. When I print a single file in the book, the settings are saved properly.
In the previous post, I remember reading that this was a bug in FM and trying the following suggested workarounds (none of which worked): Switching to structured mode; saving the desired setting in one file in the book, printing that document, and then printing the book (was supposed to result in FM remembering the settings for the entire book); saving the book right after it prints; selecting all files in the book and saving as PDF, as opposed to selecting the book and then File > Save as PDF.
I'd be glad to know if anyone has any ideas, or if Adobe are planning to post a fix for this issue.

It is my understanding that FrameMaker uses the setting stored in the first document of the book when creating a PDF from a book. So, open the first file in the book and make a PDF, setting your bookmarks as you want for the whole book. Then create the PDF of the book. Check the settings before you click Print to make sure they are what you want. You may have to make a few changes, but it should remember them the next time.
I work with FM 9, so this may not be relevant to FM11. I find it necessary to open the PDF settings dialog each time I make a PDF of a book, and click Save/OK/whatever, to make sure the bookmarks are created correctly. The settings are always correct, no changes needed; but I find it necessary to open the dialog and close it to get the bookmarks correctly indented in resulting PDF. It may have been fixed in FM11.

  • Working on making a book using lightroom 5

Working on making a book using lightroom 5 and printing with blurb.com.   My question is pertaining to the cover of book.  I have two images full bleed and text on the spine.  I can see that I can add an image to spine also so its not just a plain color.  But does anyone know how to be able to zoom or move image on spine.  I basically want the back or front image to bleed right over spine.  But there is no option I have seen to do this.  Its pretty basic book layout stuff.  Why does it seem that lightroom does not do it.

You cannot put an image on the spine. The spine has a text box only, and you cannot put images into a text box.
The only way to have (part of) an image showing on the spine is when you select the two-page spread for the cover. Then the image extends from left to right and goes over the spine.
For page-layout - and that includes the cover - you have to select one of the templates. There is no template with an image on the spine - except the full bleed.
Apart from that, I think it's wise not to put an image on the spine. The text - that is necessarily small - can be hard to read if it is on top of an image.

  • Layout for printing a book?

Does a page ordering template exist for Pages for printing a book with two pages per side of 8X10 in. paper (printing both sides) so that the pages will be ordered correctly when the sheets are stacked, folded and stapled? I want to publish poetry chapbooks using ten to twelve sheets of paper. I realize I shall need to trim the edge opposite the fold once folded. Or, is there a better way?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
This is one of the frequent answers I post. There are a few ways to do this. The first two involve setting your Pages document in File > Page Setup… to landscape orientation. I originally wrote this for Pages 2. In Pages 3, use the page layout mode for #s 1a & 1b.
1a - Use linked text boxes. This is easier done with the layout showing. First you need to add a page break to have two pages. Click in the body area & then Insert > Page Break. Now click outside the layout area to enter object mode & click the "T" in the tool bar or Insert > Text to create a text box & type something in it. This is to keep the box from disappearing if you click elsewhere & the text can be replaced later. If you already have some text to paste in you can just paste while in object mode & a text box containing your text will be created. You will now need to click outside the layout again & drag the cursor toward the text box to select it. You can now position the first text box in the lower right of your 2-page document. It is easier to see where it goes if you have the document set up with 2 columns. Click on the blue-outlined tab at the lower right of the text box to create a new of the same size & move the box to the upper left. Repeat for a box for the upper right & again for the lower right. You will now have 4 linked text boxes.
1b - Start as in 1a creating a 2-page document with 2 columns in landscape orientation. For this one you will use the body text area. Just type or paste your text in as normal, starting in the upper left. When you have your text done, cut all of the text in the first column (upper left), insert a column break after the last character on the now lower left column & paste the cut text after it in the now lower right column.
Neither one of these will let you automatically use page numbers because Pages "sees" each page & you actually have 2 pages per page.
2 - Use Cocoa Booklet to create a booklet with any number of pages (best in a multiple of 4). Start with your Pages document in Legal size & larger than normal font size. Export the Pages document to a PDF & then drag the PDF to the icon of Cocoa Booklet. It will create a new PDF in booklet form.

  • Producing an iPhoto book using RAW images

I have used IPhoto to create photo books using many cameras.  Now I use a NIKON DSLR 5300 camera and cannot produce the phonebook.  I am fairly certain after doing much research that it is to do with RAW images.  I have OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and the latest Digital Camera RAW compatibility Update V6.02 was installed on my MAC on 16 December 2014.
I have created the book in I Photo, the assembly process gets completed and when the book is to be UPLOADED an error message comes up saying that I could either cancel or re-try.  Have re-tired over a dozen times - no luck.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot this one please?

The error message AN ERROR OCCURRED UPLOAD YOUR ORDER has only arisen since using my Nikon camera.
It may be a coincidence, Linda. If there is another problem with your Mac or AppleID, that occurred at the same time, it might look like the new camera were the culprit.  Let's summarize, what you already explored with Larry:
When I preview the book it looks great, I then proceed to BUY BOOK.
To be clear, the preview created with http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040  looks great?  No missing photos or text in the preview? Then your RAW photos are fine.
I used SAFE MODE to buy my book; however the error remains.
Safe Mode will clear caches and disable non-standard extensions. If your network is reliable, the order should go though.
    Have you checked these things?
Try to disable timeouts by turning off the energy saver in system Preferences, so your Mac does not fall asleep at a critical moment.
Disable fire walls and antivirus filters, like Little Snitch. The SafeMode should take care of that, but do it nevertheless.
Your country setting in iPhoto Preferences > Advanced: Is the Print Products Store set to the country you are in? The same as Delivery address and Billing Address?
Have you reentered your billing address and delivery address at the Apple Store?
Check your AppleID settings and enable "Express Checkout" for your Apple ID directly at the Apple Store. You can do this right from this web page. Look at the black title bar at the top of this page. There is a Store menu to the left. Click it to open the page of the Apple Store. On the next page click the head icon to the left of the shopping cart to open the settings for your account. There you can enable the Express Checkout settings at the link "Update Express Checkout Settings".
Check your settings for date and time in the System preferences, also your location settings in System Preferences > Language&Region. your region should be set to Australia, if you are ordering from an Australian Store, as your forum name suggests.
One last thing -  sometimes the Apple Print Products Store is really not available for ordering.  Last year, for a few weeks, nobody could order print products from Australia.  If all fails, give the Australian Print Products Store a call - use the phone number on this page:  http://store.apple.com/au/help/print_products

  • Printing hardbound books (like Apple's iPhoto books) from Pages docs

I've printed a few hardbound books of photos from iPhoto and have been pleased with the results, particularly those from iPhoto 6.
Recently, I used Pages to lay out a book of photos, game scores, and some text for my son's baseball team. The original idea was to take the pdf file to the local Kinko's and have it printed and bound with transparent covers and plastic ring thing. But Kinko's proved unable to print my full-bleed pages, and the quality of the prints turned out to be worse than I could do with my Canon iP8600 printer at home!
Faced with the task of printing 20 copies of this 24-page book at home, I'm now wondering...can Pages documents (or pdfs) be printed by Apple's book service? If not directly, can I import the pdf file into iPhoto and print each page as a single full-bleed 'photo' using one of the iPhoto templates? I'd have to redo the layout of the Pages book to fit iPhoto's template dimensions, and that would be a LOT of additional work, so I'd like to know beforehand if it is technically possible to print the book in this manner and if Apple would obect to my doing this.
And if none of the above is possible, is there some printing service out there that would accept a pdf file from Pages and print it as a hardbound book similar to Apple's for a reasonable cost?
    Thanks!

No, kinko's does not do hardbound books, at least not here in Japan. All they offer is simple binding of loose pages. Options include plastic spiral-like binding, staples, plastic covers, and basic glue/cloth tape. Papers are whatever you bring in or whatever you print on at the shop. Results are adequate for reports and such, but not for long-term archival purposes or gifts.
As for my own book project, I ended up printing 19 copies on my 8-ink Canon printer using fairly high quality duplex paper. Took several days -- mostly because of the need to buy and install new ink cartridges every few hours (took far more ink than I had expected). The results were far better than could be done on Kinko's printers, but the cheap (not really!!) bindings did not leave a good impression. Moreover, adding the binding cost to the cost of the paper and ink brought the price of each book to over $30 -- more than it would have cost to use Apple's service.
Just after printing and binding these books, I created a 100-page iPhoto book of vacation photos. Book came back in about a week and looked superb. Showed it to the coaches -- the ones who work for printing companies -- and they were quite impressed. Still don't know why they resisted going this route for the baseball book.
Next time, if there IS a next time, I will insist upon using Apple's service.

"There was a problem -- LOCALIZE"
I tried re-entering oll of my address and updating my personal info still no go.

This may be a problem with your keychain. Have you tried this solution by Mike in Calgary

Also, when editing your Address the format is very important, i.e. how you write the zip code, see this for general information:
