Print in grayscale?

I used to be able to select "Colorsync Options" or I think Quartz Filters in the print dialog box, then choose the Grayscale option to print only in grayscale.
After I upgraded to Leopard, there's no longer a Colorsync option in the print menu. I looked in the apple help, but it tells me to select "Color Matching" which doesn't exist. Yes, i clicked the disclosure triangle to show all the options.
The only workaround i found was to save as PDF, then open it with ColorSync Utility and apply a Filter that way.
What happend to that option? I often print a grayscale preview of an image to avoid wasting color ink.

I noticed that many of my expected printing options weren't available using Leopard's default drivers. It appears os x by default is using the open source gutenprint drivers that for my printer have minimal functionality. in my case, for an epson photo 2200 printer, i needed to download and install the latest driver from the epson website. I do see that ColorSync currently appears as an option in my print dialog under 'Color Management', I'm not sure if that was there when using the leopard default driver or not. but its there now.

  • How do I change my default printer to print in grayscale?

How do I change my default printer to print in grayscale using a MacBook Air?  I have gone to "system preferences" and "printers & scanners."  However, there is absolutely no option to change the print color scale.  I see that option when I go to a document & print, but I don't want to go through the hassle of changing to "gray scale" every time I print.  Thanks so much in advance!!

Officejet 6100 - H611a Will not print in grayscale when color cartridge is depleted!
Even though the documentation that came with the printer says it will.  After 2+ hours on the phone with HP support over the course of 2 days, I have been informed that printer WILL NOT print in black ink only if a color cartridge is empty.
I thought anyone who purchases this model should know the documents included lie.
From page 31 of the Officejet 6100 user manual:  "If a color cartridge is depleted, the printer will print in grayscale using the black cartridge."  LIES!
The HP Help Programs says the same thing.
I have hard-reset the printer, removed and reinserted all the cartridges, set the options to "black ink only," Nothing worked.  3 HP reps all said the same thing, "You have to get a new magenta cartridge."
Will be retuning for a refund as I purchased this model SPECIFICALLY because the manual said it would print the grayscale without color ink present.
Have had 4 HP printers over the years, never even considered buying anything except HP.  This will be my last HP printer.  Extremely disappointed by HP's deception.

Sorry the printer did not perform as expected.  I have escalated this in an effort to get this to the right people.

I can't get my printer to stop printing in grayscale. I have an HP Deskjet 990Cse. My OS is Windows Vista 32 bit. I have gone to Preferences, Advanced and under Document Options the Color Printing Mode is "Grayscale (8bpp)". I can't get the drop down window to open to change the option. The selection is grayed out. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

  • Not printing in grayscale

My printer will only print in colour even though I have set it to print in grayscale. Any help? It was working perfectly fine before but it started acting this way ever since I came back from my holiday. I have tried reinstalling drivers but to no avail. If the file I wanted to print was already in black then it would print in black. But if the file is originally coloured then the printer will still print in colour regardless of the settings I made. I am using ip4850.

    Hi,
Grayscale is a mixture of available colors on your printer and under normal conditions printer will print in black and white using ALL colors. If you wish to print B&W, select Black in only.
    Regards.

  • Override app preferences to print in grayscale/black and white

I have successfully set up my eprinter to print in grayscale, however apps used on my iPad or Android phone (for instance, the coupons.com app) are able to override my preferences and print in color.  This defeats the purpose of saving money through printed coupons.
Printer is HP 5510 and is set up with ePrint.

Yikes! Unfortunately, this defeats one purpose of getting a wireless printer. Printing full-color coupons is a huge waste of money, not a money saver.

  • Printing in grayscale

How does one make printing in GRAYSCALE the default setting. It's a pain having to do change to this setting every time I want to print something.

Set the printer preferences to what you want. Click on the presets popup menu and select Save As and give it a name. Each time you print you'll have to select this preset but at least it is a quick selection rather than several clicks.

  • Color Laserjet 2605dn prints only grayscale in Windows 7

Over the weekend I upgraded 2 PCs to Win7.  I downloaded the most recent Universal Printer Driver from the HP website (dated Feb 18, 2011).  The problem?  From some applications, the printer now prints only in grayscale.  For instance, all output from CorelDraw X5 is grayscale.  In MS Word 2010, most output is grayscale, but curiously "Word Art" prints in color even when all else prints in grayscale.  Opening a bitmap (photo, for instance) in MS Picture Editor, it will print in full color, but the same photo opened in CorelDraw X5 or imported into MS Word will print only in grayscale.
I have uninstalled the printer driver package (using Microsoft Management Console) and reinstalled it, with the same results.
    Help!

I do not know of any availability of a previous driver for Windows 7 32bit for this printer. Did you try both drivers from this page:
    Drivers for 2605dn
The drivers listed for PCL6 and Postscript, are different in size, maybe one will fix the problem. Make sure to uninstall one before trying the other.

  • Printer won't print in grayscale

My color cartridges on HP Photosmart B110b were running low and everything was in pink color, so I decided to print in grayscale (which should only use the black cartridge right?). I changed the printer settings, but for some reason, everything that should be grey was actually pink. Quite annoyed, I desaturized the image in Photoshop and tried again. Same.
First it printed in pink-and-white, now the red cartridge must have run out completely and I'm only getting an almost blank page. My black cartridge is HP branded, absolutely new, and it works fine when I print documents in black font. But won't work on grey.
I don't understand what's going on. I don't have money to buy new color cartridges atm, I just wanna be able to print in grayscale. My old printer worked fine with the color cartridge taken out, but this one won't cooperate unless all 4 are in... Help?

    Hello @MBS2,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are not able to print to your HP Photosmart C3180, the lights on the control panel are blinking. I notice you have an empty color cartridge installed, in order for the printer to print you need to have ink in both cartridges as it pulls from all cartridges, even when selecting black ink only.
You can find some information in the following article. Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers

  • HP eprint will not print in grayscale using HP Photosmart 5510

    Greetings,
This morning I installed the app on my husband Android phone and sent a .pdf file to print.  When prompted I chose to print via the hp eprint and on settings chossed grayscale
    The document printed in color.

You're welcome.  No, you can send the photo to your printer from the app and have it print in gray scale.  I just did it a moment ago.  In your app, you have "registered" or signed in with your ePrint email address.  Everything you send from the app from that point forward, is sent by sending to your ePrint email address.  You need to open the app, click the gears (settings) in the top right corner, then select "Reset app data".
That will remove your ePrint email address from the app.  Activate the app by signing in with your regular email address (instead of your ePrint email address).
Everything you send from the app to your printer will be done via wireless (instead of through ePrint email address).
When you use the app this way, your color/grayscale setting will work.
Please let me know how it goes.

  • My Mac is set to print in grayscale by default and I am not sure how to change this.  The print setup defaults to Colorsync under Color Management and Colorsync is stuck on Mode "Gray"

My Mac can print color if I change from Colorsync to "in printer" or if I manually change the colorsync profile, but this has to be done every print and is quite time consuming.  Can someone help me change the default Colorsync profile or change Color Mangement to default to "in printer"?  After 3 days of this I am already tired of this,  And before it is asked I do not know what has changed to cause this.  Wednesday was the first time I had needed to print on this particular Mac since March and it was already stuck in grayscale.

You can select your preferred set of printing perferences and "Save as Default".
Or you can blow it all away and "Reset the Printing System" which takes you back to NO printers installed, and add the Printers back in.
To reset the printing system (if necessary)
Control-click or right-click a print queue in the "Printers" pane.
Choose "Reset printing system..." from the contextual menu.
Click "OK" in the "Are you sure..." confirmation sheet
This un-installs all printers. You can then add them back in one at a time, and they should come in with default settings.

  • Making color photos print as grayscale

I am working on a large book with lots of photos. The final book will print 4 spot colors and the photos will be converted to grayscale. I would like to place the original source color photos into InDesign and make them print grayscale, while allowing the other color elements in the document (type, charts, and rules) to print in color.
This would save lots of time doing grayscale conversions, and organizing two sets of photos.
-- My plan is to have the printer do the final grayscale conversions.
Does anyone know anyway to do this?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Dave

When printing from ID, go to Output and change color to Composite Gray.
Edit> didn't see that you wanted other elements to print color. Quite simply you would have to bring the images into ID as grayscale already to achieve this.
