Print presets not saving

I never got very good results from printing in Aperture 2, but Aperture 3 seems to have fixed most of my outstanding issues. So I was trying to set up some print presets. Unfortunately, I create a new preset, select Save Preset from the gear menu and it disappears the next time I start Aperture. I can't even seem to find what file Aperture might be storing these presets in, Library > Application Support > Aperture has a PrintPresets.plist file, but I don't see any of the presets in my print dialog in there, and none of those files contain my preset.
Is anyone else seeing this? Anything I can try to resolve this? I'm on 10.6.2 with an Epson 3800 if that matters.
Thanks.

OK, if the permissions thing doesn't work I do have another fix....if you don't mind 'going under the hood'.
Your plist thing gave me an idea, so what I did, having confirmed that my file, like yours, did not contain any of my saved presets, was make my own in plist. If you decide to try this please make a good copy of your plist file and keep it somewhere safe before you start, and please understand you do this at your own risk. Having scared you sufficiently it is actually quite easy. Open the PrintPresets.plist file, choose one of the existing presets (they are labelled as items) that is closest to the one you wish to create and copy it. Then click plist to navigate back one level and then paste in your new preset. Rename it (user name) and save, then reopen AP3 to confirm your new preset does in fact show up. Assuming it does then you can go back into PrintPreset.plist and tweak the settings to suit. The one thing that tripped me up briefly was the fact that measurements in the plist file are imperial yet in my copy of AP3 I am using metric, simple enough to convert though.
Again, this is at your own risk, but it worked a treat for me and now I can strart to print with my own presets in AP3. Wish I'd thought of it earlier.
Good luck if you decide to have a go

  • Printer Presets Not Saving

It has been discussed on here before without any fixes coming from Apple...
Essentially the problem is that I'm trying to set one preset for printing all of my documents and another preset that allows me to quickly print photos from Imagebrowser (a Canon program). The problem is that when you think you have saved a preset you really haven't. It just continues to use whatever settings were last used and often a bunch of work has to go in to getting things to print correctly. I know this worked correctly under Tiger. We're at 10.5.4 and Apple still hasn't sorted this out. Does anyone know of a third-party app or Applescripts that could be used to rectify this problem.
If I missed it, has there been a solution to this problem?

This issue has been a problem for me since installing Leopard 10.5 upon its release. The fix for me was realizing that the feature settings of the various printers were reset. I had to go into each of the information panels of the print queues and enable Duplex printing, for instance. I do not know why this is not occurring through an automatic query process between the Printer Setup and the Printer itself.
A serious non-feature I noticed is that a lack of one feature in the Default Printer causes the Preset to lose that feature within an application context. That is, having the Default Printer without Duplex, while having selected a saved Duplex preset will cause the checkbox to be unset and the duplex feature to become unavailable in that preset and application, even after selecting an alternate printer with the Duplex feature designated available. Setting the default printer to the alternate having Duplex and restarting the application (like Preview) causes the Print dialog with Duplex preset to have the checkbox set.
I checked to see if the preset plist is being overwritten when selecting alternate printers, and it is not.
It seems that this could be a behavior exhibited by in the Apple Print dialog. It seems to read the Preset one time, perhaps at the first Print command. From there it seems to alter the Preset information, based on the default printer feature set, losing Preset features forever more within that application context. If this is the case, I suggest that Apple maintain a original copy of the Preset plist within the application and merge that upon each alternate printer selection.
For me, the workaround is to manually designate all of my printers to have Duplex capability.
I hope you find this useful.
    Sincerely,
    Robert Entriken

  • GR3 Presets not Saving

I have Audition 3 and the VST Guitar Rig 3 by Native Instruments. I've recorded a few tracks with the Guitar Rig 3 set as my fx. The effects are applied correctly and stay until I restart the program. When I re-open audition, it still says Guitar Rig 3 under FX but the preset internally in GR3 isn't saving. So instead of the preset sound in my wav I have the guitar sound without any distortion. I figured out that freezing the files keeps the presets - but it's a hassle to freeze them all and unfreeze them when I want to edit the tracks. Is there something I'm missing? or is this something that's on NI's end? Thx in advance.

Well, good old Time Machine has saved the day and now at least I'm back to where I was before, I can now edit the PrintPreset.plist file directly to add my presets. Still not sure how AP2 stopped this when AP3 was loaded afterwards, but at least my clunky work around is working again until (hopefully) this is fixed with another update.
Hmmmm. My Aperture 3 print presets file is named PrintLayoutPresets.plist
The Aperture pront presets file was named PrintPresets.plist
I can't edit PrintLayoutPresets.plist with the Property List Editor and get anything to stick. PrintLayoutPresets.plist also does not have the same fields as PrintPresets.plist - for example there doesn't seem to be a way to set color profiles different for each preset. If I change a color profile in a duplicated preset, the gear menu dies not give me the option to save. Same as if I change the paper size.
Everything else I've tried with Aperture 3 has worked - nothing Aperture 3.0.1 addressed caused me any trouble. This is my only issue (at least so far) with Aperture 3.

    Hi Bob
I'm editing a file called PrintPresets.plist which resides at User->Library->ApplicationSupport->Aperture and this does seem to be working with a direct edit of the file. I don't find the PrintLayoutPresets.plist file inside AP3 helps either. Like you apart from this issue everything else seems to be working well, it would be nice to get this solved as well.
I'm off for a few days now I'm not taking my MBP with me - I'll keep an eye on the thread with my iPhone but probably won't respond due to it's form factor. Roll on the iPad for times like this

  • Printer Settings Not Saving

I have an Epson 4800 and an Epson 6600. I have saved the printer presets for the different papers that I use. Like Roll Paper Glossy or Semimatte Sheet paper.
After the latest OS upgrade, my saved settings are not working! When I click on one of my saved settings, it is like it goes to the default settings. It does not even revert to the last settings used.
Any idea on how to get my saved printer presets to work again?
    Kevin Hawkins

To make sure you really delete the settings, you should throw away the com.apple.print.custompresets.plist file in your /Library/Preferences/ folder in your home directory.

  • Print Preferences - not saving with report in CR2008

I have CR2008 FP 2.7 when I go to print --> preferences and set things like the paper output size and set it to staple the pages these settings do not get saved with the crystal report.  The next time I go into designer all of these changes are gone.  Setting the print style to single or double sided does save with the report.
Does anyone know why it is not saving all of the printing preferences?
    Thanks,
    josh

As this is happening in the designer, moved to Crystal Reports Design forum.

  • Plug-in preset not saving

I have to toggle the preset in Massive (NI synth plug-in) to get it to load properly.
The track shows Massive as the plug-in, Massive shows the right preset when I open it, but it is not sounding right until I toggle the preset to another sound and back again. Also, I have one of the oscillators turned off, and I have to turn it off again every time I start up the project.
I seem to have intermittent issues with BFD2 not remembering to load my kit, as well.
It seems that Logic is not saving my 3rd party plug-in settings very well.

  • Printing presets not working

I will set up, define, and save a printing preset only to see it gone the next time I need to use it. Anybody else? Any obvious fixes, or is it a matter of waiting for Apple to fix it?

  • Printer presets not working in OSX Mavericks

    Hi Apple community,
since upgrading to OSX Mavericks, the system printing dialog doesn't change the pre-set printing presets after selecting one of them. I made a screencast to show what I mean.
This is what I already treid:
    - Deleting printer
    - Re-installation of printer
    - Deleting all presets
    - New setup of all presets
How can I fix this issue???
    Thanks!

Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Desktop, leaving the window open. If there are any other files in the same folder with a name beginning in "com.apple.print.custompresets", move those too.
Log out or restart the computer. Create a custom preset and test. If there's no change, quit again and put each item you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the items you moved.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Print presets not keeping settings after saved?

I've created a preset to have the object printed to Scale at 100%, but none of the settings stick. I turned off Auto Rotate, set it to Landscape, and set it to Scale-100%, but after every print job it goes back to Auto Rotate: On, Portrait, and Scale to Fit: Print Entire Image.
Scale is the important one here, the others were just tests to see if any settings I change are staying, however none of them seem to. Any ideas? This is on a 2.66GHz Intel Core2Duo running 10.6.8.
Thanks in advance for any help, this is really frustrating!

Yes, it works fine when I hit Print that first time, it's when I go BACK to do more using what should be a preset that the settings aren't sticking. If I make a preset, I shouldn't have to change the settings every single time, since that sort of negates the point of a preset.

  • Landscape Preset Not Saving

I've just started using my snow leopard laptop to print from my Canon iPixma 4000R printer and I've noticed something weird. I've had a preset for school notes that I used in leopard that successfully transferred over. In the leopard preset I had 4 slides to a page in landscape mode, but for some reason snow leopard refuses to save landscape mode to a preset. Even when I try to make a new preset landscape mode does not save to the preset. Any ideas as to how to rectify this besides remembering to click landscape before everytime i print? Thx for the help

Hello there. I have tested your symptom on 10.6.1 and can confirm that I can reproduce the same - that is the orientation is not being saved with a preset.
I tested this with Preview and TextEdit.
However, this is also the case with Preview and TextEdit on 10.5.8.
What application were you using on 10.5 that was working for you? The orientation was probably not part of the default print dialog and that is why it was being saved with the preset?
Also, someone may remember this being a limitation and could add to this. I certainly don't remember this being the case but then I don't think I ever had an orientation preset...

  • I'd like to create a pdf that allows forms to be filled and printed, but not saved?

My client does not want employees to save potentially sensitive data to their computers, but would like the forms to be interactive and allow for employees to fill in the form, print it and submit the hardcopy. This doens't have to be 100% bulletproof but should raise the level of obfustication where most user's cannot save filled in data.

For business I agree. Its an advantage for people to fill out forms that need to be sent in.
Looks like what they should do is add a section in the enable Reader Rights to disallow saving of PDF as a checkbox.

  • Data Modeler EA1 - Print settings not saved

Is there any way of saving page/print settings?
Getting print settings/layout right often takes several changes in setup, at the moment it appears to make me do it every time I print.

Not for now. I logged enhancement request for that.

  • User Presets not saved correctly

I am trying to set up specific 3 User Presets to export files to a given file location.
But when I return to user presets LR only shows *one* of the 3 locations used and that is set against each of the 3 presets.
Q: This looks like a bug, as I cannot seem to save the different file locations to a different user preset... or am I doing something wrong ?
(LR 5.6 on Mac OS 10.9)

Even I try to Right Click the preset and use the UPDATE WITH CURRENT SETTINGS, this is not working.
    I'm really puzzled by this.

  • Problem with Office Word 2010 Print Settings not saving

    Office Pro Plus 2010 on XP2 x86
I've installed it on a couple of test systems to test our custom macros and vsto ribbons. They all seem to work OK, except for one thing.
The new File>Print screen - it does not remember it's settings. For example, in Word, go to the File>Print screen:
Change Collated to Uncollated and Print.
Exit Word and go back into Word.
Uncollated has changed back to Collated.
Now try the old style print dialogue (in Word 2010):
(Create a macro and run it)
    Sub OldPrintDialog()
    Dialogs(wdDialogFilePrint).Show
    End Sub
    Tick\Untick Collate and print.
Exit Word and go back in.
Look at the old Print Dialogue and it has remembered it's setting.
It looks like MS have forgotten to put code in that controls this. It works OK in Word 2000\2002\2003\2007... and will to be a problem for some of our computers when doing scripted printing, e.g. two
copies of a 3 page invoice prints from the wrong trays! It should print 1\1, 2\2, 3\3, but prints 1\2\3, 1\2\3.
And I've tried several different drivers and printers - they all behave the same...
I need to set the collate option permanently to "Uncollated".
Where is this setting stored, or is it a bug?
    Thanks
    G
EDIT (20110303 16:18): Just took Office 2010 off the invoicing test system and put Office 2003 on - and our invoices print correctly!

    Hi,
To specify the settings, follow these steps :
    1.
Start Word and open the document you want to change.
    2.
Click the Paper tab, you can do that according to the version of MS Office that you are using.
    3.
Under Paper, click the paper size you want.
    4.
If you want to change the page orientation of the document or its page margins, click the Margins tab.
    5.
    Select the desired options.
    6.
To use the paper size specified in step 4 for only the active section of the document, click Selected text.
    7.
    Click OK.
    Sincerely,
    Harry
