Print server belkin network USB Hub (F5L009)

I just bough a Belkin network USB Hub print server and downloaded from their website the mac 10.4 compatible software (their is no 10.5 yet), when I want to open the application I get this error message: _SXUPTP Driver has not been installed, please reinstall the application._
I called Belkin and they said that they were not using this driver and that it was a Mac issue so I call Mac and they said it's a Belkin issue. How do I fix that error? Please Help!
Thanks

I agree! Like I said, I've been using it for a couple of weeks with NO problems - but I was on 10.4 (Belkin posted the beta Mac driver just a couple of weeks ago). This is the ONLY item that didn't work flawlessly after upgrading. Unfortunately, the Belkin customer support is almost non-existent...in fact, their reply to me was via a posting on a web page (thereby eliminating the possibility of me seeing a Belkin email address to which I could then reply to).
However - I will also say that for the two weeks that it worked with my Mac - it worked perfectly! For now, though, it's back to being a gateway for my wife and kids assorted XP machines.

  • Wireless iPod syncing - Belkin Network USB Hub F5L009

I stumbled across a nifty gadget today, but I'm having some issues and would like some help. The Belkin Network USB Hub is a thin black box about the same dimensions as my Airport Extreme base station and pulls a nifty trick: when attached to the router via Ethernet, the hub tricks your computer into thinking the attached USB devices are actually plugged into your computer.
My purpose for this purchase was wireless syncing of my iPods and iPhone. Since Apple seems to have some kind of vendetta against people doing this, I wasn't expecting it to work. But it did - for my old iPod mini. The iPod Touch and iPhone 3G showed up fine in the Belkin utility, but iTunes will not recognize them.
I'm still waiting on Belkin tech support. My hub is showing driver ver 1.3.0, although Belkin's support page seems to think ver 1.5.0 was included in the driver package they have posted out there. Only thing is the Silex kext in the package doesn't seem to match up. Frustrating!
Anywho, I figured someone out here might have an answer. Anyone run into this issue/know how to get the iTouch/iPhone to show up in iTunes + sync?
    Thanks!

    UPDATE: LETTER FROM BELKIN
    "Dear mr XXXX,
We are already addressing some issues about the performance and stability of storage drives via Mac OS 10.5.6. Issues with drives disappearing or not being detected at all have been reported by one or two other users, replicated here and passed on to the developers for them to fix in a later version of the software. Unfortunately however I have no information about when the new software should be available. This does mean that for the moment there is no fix for this issue I`m afraid.

So hold off from buying this if you have 10.5.6!!

  • WRT54GS and Belkin Network USB Hub

My Linksys router works fine. I'm hard wired in with a desktop computer. I have a Belkin Network USB Hub that will not work with the router. The router appears to be blocking the USB hub. If I plug the hub directly into my computer, then it will work. I have reset the router to factory setting and I still cannot see the hub. I can not find anyone that has problems with installation of the hub. How can I use the hub with my router?

The Hub I refer to connects to a router. The USB hub does not expand the number of USB devices I can use on my single computer. The hub is used to share USB devices across the network. I would like to share my printer, scanner, and external hard drive with all my computers in my house. The hub uses an Ethernet cord to connect to the router. My issue is the hub does not work when I connect it directly to the router. If I connect the hub to my computer with an Ethernet cable, then the connected USB devices show up in the loaded Belkin software (and work fine). Once I connect the hub to the router through an Ethernet cable, the computers on the network can not see any of the USB devices. This is why I assume the router is "blocking" the the network USB device. Everyone says how easy the hub is to setup. Just plug it in. I must be missing something. Belkin tech support said to contact my router support.

  • Belkin Network USB Hub not working with new BT Rou...

    Hi,
I received my new hub to use with Infinity when they turn it on in a few days time.
I connected the new router to the ADSL and all works perfectly without any set up needed.
I installed (on my old 'sheep-dip' PC) the BT software, and now this test PC will not connect to any USB hard-drives or Printers connected to my Belkin Network USB hub.
The Network USB hub works fine with all the other PCs in the house - but not if I install the BT software.
(Which appears to be mainly adverts and a link for those too dim to type BT.com in a browser... ;o)
I am guessing that this may be something to do with the software blocking use of the new BT Router using its own USB socket as a Network USB link - as this is being saved for 'future product enhancements'.  Is there anyway of curing this and still having the BT software on this machine?
    Thanks!

Is this issue likely to go away when the Infinity service starts? - I am guessing not?

The router wont see the belkin device.
I know the cable is fine as I can connect Laptop to the router over it.
No matter what I have tried I cant get the belkin to show up in the home network of the router.
Has anyone on here done it ?

Do the same thing your doing to get each computer on the Internet, one takes turns connecting the cable.
If you want both computers on the Internet and printing at the same time, that's what a router is for.
Just sub one of the PC's above for a printer and you see the idea how it all works.
A Airport Express is Mac friendly method, but if you have computers that have no wireless capability then you will need a Airport Extreme for the Ethernet outports.
You can also buy a third party router from the PC store, that works too, but it's a bit more complicated and you have to install your own firmware updates manually, no Airport Utility to do it for you. But you save money.
The important thing is setting up the router securely, WPA and WEP are both cracked. New Mac's don't even support WEP encrypted because it's worthless and false security.
    What you want is:
WPA(AES) Personal with two passwords, each 20+ random letter, number, symbol characters in length. One password is used for Internet access only the other for Admin router access only, this way a user can't crack the router.
Turn off remote access, don't use hidden network or MAC Address filtering, no defense.
The long passwords are needed to defeat brute force attacks using video card based software, this type of password will take thousands of years to crack.
You can learn more about wireless networking online, have a local PC/Mac guy set you up.
Your computers are much more secure behind a router than directly connected to Internet as the router is a dumb switch, like a large security guard, only allowing certain things to pass and beating down others who try.
Also you don't wear out your Ethernet port like what your doing now connecting the cable all the time.
    Good Luck

  • Setting up a print server for 5 USB printers

I have seven Macs in the house all networked through hubs and a router.
Does anyone know how to set-up five USB ink-jet printer through a print server from Linksys. I current use all on one shared G5, so all can choose the printers.
My first attempt by getting the IP address of the print server was sucessful, but apparently I need port information. Also, the print server feeds into a USB hub, then to the printers. Is this possible?

In my limited search for a USB print server, I recall that you cannot connect them through a Hub. Look in the documentation to see if it can do this. I doubt it, though.

  • Deskjet F 4480 and a print server for network printing

I have a HP Pavilion (win 7) and an Acer netbook ( Win XPsp3) wirelessly networked with the HP Paviion  as the host for the Deskjet multifunction printer. I would like to set up a print server  to alleviate some problems we are having with the Acer accessing the printer. Uaually all is ok, but  It seems that whenever that netbook is put into sleep mode, I have to reboot it, shut down the printer (even to the point of disconnecting the USB and power cords, and then re hooking up all the cables)  to get ithe netbook to print. so, I am looking at installing a print server to get around this annoyance.
I am using a DLink WB-1310 router, BTW.
Any suggestions on a capable print server? Not to mention any other suggestions, which i certainly would appreciate.
    Thank you, all.

HP-provided drivers don't support network printing. You'll need to install Foomatic (a PPD interpreter), ESP ghostscript (postscript translator) and the 712c PPD from:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/foomatic/
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/showprinter.cgi?recnum=HP-DeskJet712C
Then, since we don't have the auto-setup software for OS X, you need to review the print server manual and find out which IP printing protocol to use. The easiest is HP Jetdirect (called TCP/IP raw port printing in many manuals) if it's available, because it doesn't require the device queue name.
    Good luck.

  • Finding a printer on the network USB connected to a PC

I have an HP c4400 printer that came with my MBP. I have it connected with a USB cable to a PC that is the main network computer. The network is a WRT54G Linksys wireless router. I do not know how to set up the printer. I loaded the printer software on the MBP and connected via USB cable and it works fine. When I try to set it up as an IP printer, I used the address for the computer it is connected to, but it never finds it. Is there a way to search for aprinter on the whole network?

In Tiger 10.4 that was easy. I would suggest you post your query in the Leopard Printing forum area:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1224
You realize that the PC must be up and running to print. You might be better off setting up with a print server so each computer can print when it wants to.

  • IBook printing with Belkin Wireless Print Server

    Hi Guys
Ok, I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction. I am a windows user (groan!, get a proper computer, yes, I know. lol lol) But trying to set up a simple network consisting of three pcs, one laptop all running windows xp/vista and one IBook. Not the best on macs but can find my way round!! All works Ok as far as seeing each other on the network and communicating/internet etc. Have introduced Belkin wireless print server to network and all ok for windows regarding printing wirelessly over the network. However, the IBook I set up as IP printing and set the appropriate address in the ibook printer setup screen. But when printing from the IBook it says the print has gone but it is actually stuck in the queue and never prints. Can anyone help with what may be a simple entry in the setup or is it some black magic IBook setting that evades us windows users??
All help will be gratefully received and promise to look at conversion!!
    Thanks in anticipation of help..........

Your printer is a non-postscript printer and requires a CUPS driver in order to use the network printing protocols which are part of the CUPS system in OS X. Except for Brother, no manufacturer of non-postscript printers is providing CUPS drivers. The printer model doesn't show up because the OS X driver only works for USB. Apple tried to get around this by including open source Gimp-Print (CUPS) drivers with OS X. But very few HPs are supported. You should try HP Deskjet 900 Series, Gimp-Print driver to see if it "might" work.
For PPC Macs, there is another open source driver set that supports most HPs, including yours:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
But, these aren't Universal binaries, so they don't work on Intel Macs. The source code is available, and I think it will readily compile on your Mac, but I don't have an Intel Mac to try that on.
Next issue - print server setup. We don't have auto-setup software, so we have to read the manual closely and decide which protocol to use. If it's IPP (=internet printing protocol, not IP printing) or LPR/LPD, you need to find the print server's queue name (sometimes called port name), and enter that in Add printer dialog near IP address.
There are other ways to do network printing. The Airport Express print server from Apple allows you to use the USB driver because it uses Airport-Bonjour software to redirect USB output, instead of using standard protocols.
    Hope this helps.

  • USB Printer - Is there a Print Server in the Airport?

I'm a little confused. I have an HP USB printer. I currently have it hooked to an iMac that shares it on the network with 2 other laptops. Now, if I go with the newest Airport it sounds from these boards that I can just plug it directly into the Airport USB and then all of the computers will see and be able to print to it?
I did think that I might have to get a separate print server device but it sound like the Airport does it now. The printer is a USB multi-function (not concerned about scanning, faxing, etc. just printing) and it only has a USB interface port on it, no networks ports so I'm assuming it is not network ready. The printer is about 3 years old.

Yes every AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) has a built-in print server for compatible USB printers.

  • Network print server compatibility

I'm contemplating the purchase of a network storage device (LaCie d2) which has a built in print server for a USB attached printer. I'd like to find out if this function will be compatible with my Samsung ML-1640 laser printer. The available specs indicate that the print server requires a postscript capable printer but I can't find any convincing evidence about whether the ML-1640 is compatible or not. Has anybody tried this?

Thanks...That was my initial assumption when I looked at the Samasung support site. HOWEVER, there is a small ray of hope. The LaCie tech spec says that the device is compatible with printers on the Openprinting compatibility list. There is a user contributed entry in this list claiming that the ML-1640 works with Linux.
    http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Samsung/Samsung-ML-1640
Hence my search for anybody who's tried it.
