Print to Fax on Windows 8.1

When I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, the print to fax capability of my HP8600 stopped working.  WhenI print the the fax driver of my wireless network connected printer, the program seems to operate normal (e.g., selection of cover sheet, etc.) to the actual printing operation.  The status goes from "spooing" to "cancelled".
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue??
Clif

Hello ClifBarber,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
The reason why you are having issues with printing since you upgraded from Windows 8 to the 8.1 operating system is simply because you need to have the proper driver for that operating system.
What we need to do is uninstall the old driver and reinstall the new one.
If you have the printer connected to the computer with as usb cable, please remove it from the printer and the computer and leave it disconnected until further notice.
The first link that I am adding will give you detailed instructions for Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once the software has been removed, reboot the computer so that the changes take affect.
When the computer is back up and running, disable any firewalls or anti virus protection that you may have running.  We don't want anything blocking the installation.  Please click on the next link for the HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and Driver.  Save the download to the Desktop on the computer so that it creates its own icon. This will make it easy for us to find when the download is complete.
Double click the new icon and follow the installation instructions.  The installation will let you know when to connect the usb cable so please do NOT connect it before hand.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • Why do I get a Fax prompt window when I try to print from Windows Photo Gallery?

Trying to print photos from Windows Photo Gallery.  Print job looks as if it goes to the queue, but does not actually print.  Fax prompt window pops up as if I were preparing to fax.  Do I now have to disable the fax in order to print photos?  I take phone calls and faxes on the same phone line.

1: I am sorry about the inconvinience.
The reason you find a check mark on a printer icon is to indicate that its a default printer. If the fax icon has a check mark, everytime you print a fax template will come up.
SOlution: Just right click on the other icon and select it as the default printer.
2: Black lines while printing photos.

  • Print Report using ASCII command through printer selection available on windows

    Hi,
I'm using Labview 2009 to create a report using Report Generation Toolkit.
Creating a report is not the problem, the problem is I need to print the report manually by sending an ASCII Code.
I noticed that there are few example on send ASCII code command, but neither of them are related to printing.
The printer I use is Panasonic dot matrix printer KX-P1121E with USB port. (Fanfold type of paper)
I used "NI_report_lvclass: Print report.vi" from Report Generation before this to print my report, everything is okay and not receiving any error.
But I noticed that after finish printing, the paper will automatically feed out as if that VI (Print report.vi) is sending out "Form Feed" (FF) Command to the printer.
My application cannot use this method because I need to print a set of data in every minute. If the data only have 2 rows, then it will be a wasting a lot of paper if everytime finished printing paper feeding out. I want the printer to continue standby on the same paper after finished printing previous data. In other words, maybe just manually send "Line Feed or Carriage Return" to the printer.
    So I have a few things need to be clarified step by step;
    1. How can I send an ASCII Code to my printer? Do you have any example for this? link below is the character of ASCII Codes that can be use :http://webpages.charter.net/dperr/links/esc_p83.htm
    2. Can I send a report created by report generation to be printed using this ASCII command method?
    3. If my printer is setup by using windows (Meaning: Available on "Printer and Faxes" list), How can I configure the printer setup in sending the ASCII Code?
    Really appreciated your reply
    Thanks!

    Hi Zwired1,
Just to make sure I fully understand the situation - I am assuming since you say you are printing to two different printers that when you are using the Print Report.vi you are using the printer name string to specify which printer you would like to print on. And if the printer that you specify is not functioning it automatically prints on the other printer, is that correct?
From looking at the code in the Print Report.vi, it looks like if you specify a printer name in the input string, if there is a problem with that printer or if that printer is unavailable, the VI should not print anything, so please let me know if that is not the behavior you are seeing.
For your question about checking the health of printers, there is a VI in the report gen toolkit called Query Available Printers. You can find it if you open up the Print Report.vi and choose the Standard Report instance, the Query Available Printers.vi is on the block diagram of that VI. It will return the list of available printers and the default printer.
    I hope that helps,

First I have tried all sorts of searches and and all I come up with is things related to Windows Server 2008.
    1. I have Fax Service running on my 2012 R2 File and Print Server.
    a. It can send faxes from the logged in domain user
    b. It does not need to receive faxes because we have another machine for that
    2. I have added the domain user I am using on the Windows 7 machine to the Accounts List in Fax Manager
    3. I can not seem to find any logging saying that there is a security problem (Event Log, etc...)
Please point me in the correct direction as I need to have my staff use Print to Fax from our Practice Management Application.

    Hi Shawn,
    à
You do not have permissions to complete this operation. Contact your fax administrator for more assistance
From the error message, please check if share the Fax on the server. Meanwhile, please also check if assign
correct permissions in Security tab under Fax properties.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,

    1. Fax Sharing is enabled and can see the Shared Fax Printer on other machines.
    2. At least 2 domain groups that the Windows 7 user is in are in the Security Section, set to be able to fax. One othem can manage fax.

  • How can I set Firefox to print to PDF, the only otions I have are (1) My Canon printer, (2) Fax or (3) Microsoft XPS document writer. There is no option for PDF

A couple of weeks ago, from the file menu, in my print options was to print a web page to PDF, that facility is no longer there. does anyone know how can I set Firefox to print to PDF.
The only options I have are (1) My Canon printer, (2) Fax or (3) Microsoft XPS document writer. There is no option for PDF

Firefox generally displays the printers in Windows' Printers folder (Start orb > Devices and Printers). If it is missing one of the printers listed there, could you indicate which one it is, for example, Adobe Distiller, PrimoPDF, CutePDF Writer, etc.?
If you previously had an add-on which added print-to-PDF functionality just to Firefox, perhaps it got disabled. You could check here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions
Also, are you really running Firefox 8.0.1? That version from last November is no longer secure and has been superseded by Firefox 11. If you browse the web widely, you should update for your security.

  • Sharing a Printer between XP and Windows 7 computers on a Wireless Network

Does anyone know if you can share a printer on a home network between a windows 7 and an XP SP3 computer?
I had a wireless netowork set up at home with an XP desktop hardwired to a cable modem and a printer with USB connection. I also had an XP laptop with wireless connection to the Internet. I was able to share files between the two compters and remotely connect to the printer (a recently purchased HP Photosmart C4600 series) from the laptop. Everything was fine until I had to replace the desktop.
I replaced the desktop with a laptop running windows 7.  The first problem I had was the new laptop would not connect to the Internet through the existing newtork - neither hardwired or wireless. The problem turned out to be my existing router so I replaced it and the new laptop now connects to the Internet. I set up a new network.
The problem I am having is remotely connecting to the printer with the XP laptop. I have the printer connected to the windows 7 laptop via USB (it is not a wireless printer) and have gone through and set both computers to the same workgroup, turned on file and printer sharing and have tried everything I have read on the microsoft forums including turning on UDP and TCP ports. I turned off firewalls and uninstalled CA security software to eliminate any potential unseen conflicts. I even tired connecting the printer to the XP thinking windows 7 might be "smarter" than XP and I could print remotely from the windows 7 computer. That didn't work either.
I can see the XP computer and access shared folders from the windows 7 computer and vice versa. If I physically connect the XP laptop to the printer via USB I can print so I know the drivers are OK.
The printer icon appears when I bring up the Printers and Faxes window on the XP computer and I am able to view the queue and even change options when I go into Properties. It shows it is selected as the default.
When I try to print remotely from the XP computer I get a message "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current priter setup" - then it lists 3 thing s to try which I have done. I also went through the XP printer troubleshooter program which was a dead end.
    HELP!

If networking isn't working out for you, you may want to try out a swtich. Best Buy sells one by IOGEAR that allows for two USB connections to tie into one computer. So long as windows 7 can either download its own driver for the printer for basic features, or if you want to download canon's driver this solution will work. The only draw back is having to bring the laptop near the printer when you need to print.

  • Officejet 6500 All in one Cannot print to Fax on Mx OSX Maverics

Im on a new Mac running OSX Maverics.  I'm new to mac.  On my old windows computer, I could print to fax with this same printer.  I would choose the OcciceJet 6500 Fax as my printer and fax any document from my screen.  Now on the Mac I cannot do this.  I dont see that as an option anywhere.
    In my printer choices (when I click File>Print) I only see OfficeJet6500 E709a.  On my windows computer i will see "OfficeJet6500 E709a" and "OfficeJet6500 E709a Fax" .
Can I print from my screen on a mac like I do on windows?  What am i doing wrong?
Ive seen other people write things about sending a fax being a choice in the PDF dropdown but i dont see it there either.
Ive run all software updates I can find.  I have the latest version of Mavericks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel1963,
The fax driver has to be installed in printers and scanners window in able to fax from the computer.
    Click on the Apple.
Click system preferences, click the printers and scanner icon, then click the + sign, then select the
printer name with fax beside it if it is available from the list, then click on the add button.
(if the Apple Update doesn't add the fax driver then you won't be able to send the fax from the computer since there isn't a Full Feature driver for Mavericks)
    Try sending a fax.
Go to file, print and select the fax and fill out fax number, then send the fax.
    Thank You.

    Hi
    Can you try this.
Download this HP SW driver from HP.com
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4142&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4083...
This is a mountain lion installer, currently there's no support for Mavericks. Just downlaod this.
After you ahve downloaded, install the sw.
When you reach the page below, try to check everything.
Whne you reach this page, select the "Bonjour Multifunction" and in Use: select the the HP Officejet ******. Dont select AirPrint. You should see the HP Fax during this page. If dontsee the Fax, just wait for a while maybe 2mins. Update me if you dont. And continue the installation.
After the installation, click "System Preferences" in the dock. Select Printers & Scanners, on this page you should see the Printers and Faxes of your printer.
Please try it out and update me the outcome.

  • How create Default Paper Size of 6" X 9" in Print and Fax System Prefs

I would appreciate help in creating a Default Paper Size of 6" X 9" because this size is not listed among the options for Tiger's Print and Fax in System Preferences. I mainly use my imac and Epson Photo R200 printer to print 6" X 9" formatted pages on 8 1/2" by 11" sheets created in MS Word. But without an Apple default for a 6" X 9" custom size, I run into all kinds of formatting problems, including the making of PDFs. My friend has a Windows machine that does have the 6" X 9" among its options, and she has no problem producing the results I am after. Thanks for helping!
    imac G-4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You should be able to create a custom page size with these dimensions in the Page Setup Dialog (under Paper Size). After creating it, use the "Save As Default" under the Settings menu.
    Hope that helps.

  • Trying to access Mac networked printer from laptop with Windows XP

    Hi
I'm stuck: I have printer sharing enabled on my G5, printer is connected to my router; from system pref/print & fax/ my URL for the printer is as follows:
    mdns://myprinter+serial#.printer.tcp.local.
    Windows wants this format
    http://printservername/Printers/sharename/.printer
I've tried any number of permutations, and can't get the printer to show up in the printer wizard. I installed the software/drivers in the PC for the specific printer.
I'm just not a PC user, and can't figure this out!

Find the IP address of the mac in Network Prefs.
Find the Mac's queue name for that printer in Print & Fax > highlight printer > Get Info (Show Info).
On the PC, add new printer, and add the printer exactly as you were trying, filling in IP address for "printserver_name" and queue name for "share_name." Don't need the "/.printer" part. For driver, you'll need to choose a postscript printer model driver, even if that printer isn't a postscript one. The Mac will translate the postscript to the printer's language. Apple Color Laserwriter xx/xx worked well for me.

  • Missing Print and Fax Preferences - no joke

I am logging onto my grandmother's brand new MacBook & trying to setup a printer for her. It has been a fiasco, which as a major Mac head is not a familiar feeling. I comfortably identify myself as expert on the user & support side.
After a few hours of fighting with her existing printer when I was there at the holidays, I ascertained that it had lost its little USB brain. HP sent out a new printer & I got her to plug it in and ran the setup assistant for her. All is well. I went to print and it stalled. Kept trying to connect, no dice. I hit the pulldown. 2 copies of the printer. Printed to the 2nd copy...all good. Great. Now I'll just delete the 1st one so she's not confused.
I go to System Preferences. No icon for Print and Fax Preferences. I hit the 'show all' button. Nothing additional. I search for print in the search window on the preferences app. Nothing. Did they move it in 10.5? I check the help file...no it says go to system preferences>print and fax.
So what gives? How do I resolve this and retrieve the print and fax preferences? Wanna see the window for yourself? http://www.killerbanshee.com/noprintfaxpreferences.png
(It is black & white cuz I was running it black and white to have faster screen response over a remote connection.)
    Thanks,
    Kriss

  • Print from Mac to windows 7 printer

    Hi
Need help. I am unable to get any print action between mac and windows computers. All advice to date appears to have failed.
Have MacBook Pro (10.6.4). Have Norton Firewall installed. Wireless network to a Dell PC, operating Windows 7 and norton 360 firewall. Printer is Canon MP830, connected via usb to windows computer. Printer has been turned on to sharing, and i am able to share files between computer, thus it is only the printer capability that has failed.
Windows 7 set up is simple computer name "NAME", no password and only the one user account. Have tried to establish a connection using smb and lpd, but neither seem to work. I have also tried with the computer ip address.
    under smb.
    setup is smb://192.168.1.4/mp830
error message is: Session setup failed: NTSTATUS_INVALIDPARAMETER
It asks for a user name and password, so i login as a guest and fail.
    under lpd/lpr
    set is lpd://NAME/mp830
This appears to do something, but nothing happens. Its status message is "connecting to printer"
but it struggles to connect, with unable to connect a little time later.
I have tried the above with the computer ip address/name and still no luck. yet every forum i have seen says all these solutions should work, but they simple do not. does anyone have any hints, as i can not believe i am unique.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
When you have the printer connected via USB to a Windows computer and shared, you cannot use the Canon supplied printer driver. With this type of connection you have to use either the Gutenprint driver suite or PrintFab. Gutenprint is preferred because it is free and checking the supported printers list for v5.2.3 which is included with Snow Leopard, the MP830 is listed as a supported model. So go open Print & Fax, select the print queue to the Windows share and open Options & Supplies. Under the Driver tab you should have the 'Canon PIXMA MP830 - Gutenprint v5.2.3'. If you have 'Canon MP830' then you need to change it to the Gutenprint driver.
With the correct driver the SMB queue should work, however you may want to check that the Guest account is enabled. Depending on the version of Win7 you have the Guest account may be disabled by default. Or you could try authenticating as the admin user account when prompted.
With regards to using LPD, this does not require any user account verification however you will need to enable the LPD Print Service (known as Unix Print Services on other Windows versions) as it is not on by default. This can be done via Windows Features, which is located inside Programs and Features. And I would suggest you use the IP address of the Win7 PC rather than the name as this relies on a Master browser which can change in a workgroup.
Hope this helps get you printing. Reply if you need more information.

  • Print from Mac to Windows printer

Hi, I've got a Time Capsule that's hooked up to my Mac Pro. I have 2 windows computers upstairs that are wireless. I recently hooked up an Epson Stylus CX7400 printer to my computer upstairs which is running Windows Vista. I can print perfectly from the Windows Vista computer but I have no clue how to print from my Mac. I also want to print from my other windows computer which is running Windows XP. Any help is greatly appreciated.

For this to work at all you must turn on printer sharing on the Windows machine to which the printer is physically connected. Since this is a Windows issue you will need to find Windows help with it. Perhaps you could post a query in the Windows forum here or at the MS forums.
Once the printer is shared you should be able to locate the printer in the Print & Fax preferences to Add it for OS X. You will need a proper OS X compatible driver for the printer.
You can locate additional help by selecting Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and searching with appropriate keywords.
    Also see:
Setting up to print to a printer shared by a Windows computer via SMB

Not all printers and/or their drivers will work wirelessly.

  • Print from iBook to Windows shared printer

    Hi
I would like to be able to print from my iBook through my airport extreme base station to my desktop which is running Windows (XP SP2).
The printer is connected to the desktop not via the USB port on the AEBS.
Is there a way for this to work? I have bonjour installed on my windows desktop but it only sees the printers i have installed on my ibook.
    Please help...
    Many thanks in advance

Hello -- Thanks for the post. I would like to know if you have tried this procedure to connect to a windows printer that is shared via a server on a subnet different from the macintosh's subnet?
    Thanks.
    Yes.
This is how I did it. There may be an easier way.
But Bonjour sure did not help.
Listen very closely - it is much harder than it
    should be.
    1) Make sure the Windows printer is shared. Use a
    sensible name with no spaces.
    2) Go to System Preferences and click on "Print and
    Fax"
    3) Press on the + button to add a printer. The
    printer browser panel will appear
    4) Hold down the OPTION button. (no really - this is
how you do it) and click on the MORE PRINTERS button
at the botton of the browser pane
    5) A sheet appears - in the top-most pull down select
    ADVANCED
    6) In the next pull-down (called Device) select
    Windows Printer via Samba.
    7) Type something into Device name.- whatever you
    want to call it.
    8) In the devide URL type this.....
    smb://username:password@workgroup/computername/printer
    name
The user and password have to apply to the windows
    machine.
The workgroup is the name of the Windows workgroup
The computer name is the name of the windows machine
and the printer name is..er.. the name of the shared
    printer.
If your username has spaces - it could all go
    horribly wrong.
    9) Then use the Printer Model - to select the printer
manufacturer and model. If your printer is not
    there... you may be skrood.
    10) Finally press ADD!!!!!
At this point you can select your default paper size.
Remember to select A4 if you are in Europe.
    Then try printing something.
Not exactly typically Apple "just works" - but it
    does work!
